Speaker 1 (00:08):
What's up, everybody?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome to another episode of the three on three pod.
I'm your host Chris Williamson, joined alongside by my girl
Cherin Nicole and joining us today in place of Tarrika
Foster Brasby is the one and only Brandon Scoop b Robinson.
This man has been an NBA insider for decades, analyzing
the game at a really high level, has connections out
(00:31):
the wazoo. If it's a great basketball player, he probably
knows him, right.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
If it's somebody connected to him, he probably knows him.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
So, Scoop, we really appreciate you having you on on
this episode here today.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
It's a pleasure to be too, Shari, and Chris is
good to finally put on my resume that I've worked
with you big shoes to fill with Tarika, who does
a wonderful job on your show. So thank you so
much for having me out to Lauren for having me
on as well.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Absolutely, man, we love to bring on you know, really
well seasoned and accomplished and also entertaining guests. And you
know what's been really entertaining is Dan Hurley deciding to
turn down the Lakers offer. Say you know, I'm good
in stores, right, Hey, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
I'm with him, you know, And this is the thing.
I'll take it out.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
I'll leave the specificities up up to school, but I'll
say this, this speaks to.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
A larger thing.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
And I think, you know, as I was following reports
and you know, he was saying, hey, I'm happy at Yukon,
and I thought that way for an interesting couple of
days that we've been watching to see what he'd ultimately
decide to do. But you don't have to always go
with what looks flashy, what looks the most attractive, the
opportunity for coach Hurley, the opportunities at Yukon, and I think,
(01:59):
you know, for us to be able to see this
play out in real time, I think it just really
speaks to like, that's that's his pinnacle right now, that's
his euphoric place right now in basketball. And for him
to be able to continue to develop these young teams
go for a three peat, which is something we haven't
seen in a very long time.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
I think he's.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
Still okay with building historic moments at Yukon and that
means more to him than uprooting his family going to La. Yeah,
you got a you have a seventy million dollar bag
on the line, but there's a lot that comes with
it that he also may not have wanted to introduce
it into his life at this time. So I commend
him from making a decision that I don't think a
lot of people would make. We know Mike Rzewski made
(02:37):
this some years ago as well, but there's a level
of sticking by your guns and sticking to your integrity
that I have to respect here.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Now.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I don't know if I would have made the same decision,
but I can understand why he did it. And man,
I've just developed even more respect for him from this.
And I didn't think that i'd have this kind of response. Honestly,
I thought i'd be like, Yo, man, it's the Lakers,
it's La it's Lebron, it's a bag. It's a chance
to build, you know, build, rebuild this franchise. But man,
I'm excited to see what happens to you kind of
(03:10):
in light of this. And I think, you know, you
thought his player's played hard for him before. I think
this is a this is a piece of loyalty that
he's offering them that we're going to see them come
out like monsters. I think a three peat is definitely
something that can happen over Ukon.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
And look, we're gonna get much more in depth on
that conversation with coach Dan Hurley turning down the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
But we have to talk about the team that are
not the team.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
But we have to talk about the Celtics and the
Mavericks in the NBA Finals because right now, the Celtics
have two games to none and it's looking like we
may be in for a gentleman sweep.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
If not a sweep, I'm not gonna.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Doubt Luca and Kyrie, but the way the Celtics are playing,
especially because Jason Tatum has not had a great shit
night in these first two games and Luca's gone off.
He's much more efficient in this game than he was
in Game one. Jason Kidd and that team, they're in trouble. Okay,
(04:13):
they are in trouble because, as Scoop Scharie, you guys
all know, from series to series it's about the matchups.
Do you have the personnel to match up with that team,
because in one series it may be better for you.
In another, you're fried chicken and barbecue chicken, right, And
(04:34):
that's what we're seeing here for the first two games,
especially on the front court Derek Lively the second you know,
God bless him with everything that he's eis to deal
with recently losing his mom and everything. He has not
been able to be effective in those lob opportunities. The
Celtics have completely shut that down. Max Kleeber's coach Avery
(04:55):
Johnson was telling me, Yo, they probably need him out
of the rotation because with the facing that the Celtics
have and the stretch fours and five with our Horford
Christas Erzingis, that's that's a liability for the Mavericks. But
I'm curious, Scoop, Uh, what have been some of your
biggest takeaways from the Celtics win in the first two
games as we look ahead to game three going back
(05:18):
to Dallas.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Well, I think is the biggest factor. Not only is
it Tatum, not only is it Brown that that has
stepped up. Drue Alliday, Uh notching eleven rebounds in game
two was quite significant in that serious his defensive prowess
and even I characterize it as this all hands on
deck doubt mentality has been what the Celtics have really
(05:42):
been enable to focus on. So if it's not Tatum,
who you know has has not has been as prolific
a scorer as as as Jalen Brown has been, it's
been our Horford stepping up in game one, It's been
you know, Sanhauser, I think has had eight points. I
think in game one he didn't have as many points
(06:02):
in Game two. But defensively, you know, he's been keenly
aware of what's going on. And I also think that
the biggest factor of the biggest caveat there has been
the player one and Chris STAPs porzingis who has been
the additions making Prizingis scores twenty points. Dallas is in
trouble because that matchup for at the at the big
(06:25):
man position. So far right both the being off, Dallas
has had no answer. But I have to say this,
Chris Uh, I do think that as much as we're
looking at the fact that you know, Boston has won
two games, and they won them at home. It is
the best four out of seven, and so basketball is
(06:46):
is definitely a series of runs and they haven't had
a chance to exparis their home cooking yet. So I
do think Dallas has blown out, or rather the Celtics
have blown out Dallas, but Dallas still has to go
home and answer. And so I think that the way
that the Boss of Celtics have won have made many
people think it's just over. But as you've seen throughout
(07:07):
the playoffs, I use round one of the of the
series between the Sixers and the Knicks that went six games,
and so I can't just throw them out the window
and say this is over.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
Yeah, yeah, I would say too. For me, And I
was saying this before we started rocking and rolling on
the show. I did not take into account from a
confidence perspective, what this Boston Celtics team would look like
with Brazilias in the lineup. You know, I had been
questioning how cohesive he'd be, what his win would be like,
up and down the floor, because he hadn't played in
(07:39):
so long, you know, if he'd be out there gingerly
playing not to get hurt, or if he'd be out
there going full force. And I was just thoroughly impressed
and still am with how he's come out, obviously knowing
he's hampered by a little bit of a of a
tinge of an injury right now, but I'm convinced that
he's going to finish this series out. I think I
had been viewing the Celtics from the lens of like
(08:01):
back against the Wall. Oh they could lose to now
nobody's gonna beat them. It's a confidence measure and meter
for me that I'm so impressed with. You know, as
Scoop talked about, their depth is unbelievable. And I spoke
about Drew Holliday being the X factor last week when
he's putting up historic type numbers, good luck. So you
(08:22):
have him, you have Porzingis, and you know it's interesting.
Tatum and Jalen Brown haven't come out of a bag yet. Yeah,
they haven't come out of a bag yet. They haven't
like dominated a game, whether it's together or separately. So
if they start dominating respectively or collectively, I don't see
the Mavericks. The Mavericks, Yes, they're more than capable of
(08:43):
making this a series again, I think to Scoop's point,
you know, we have to acknowledge Kyrie.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
We haven't seen him go off yet. It will happen.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
I don't think he's going to continue on this series
and not make a claim to shut everybody up about
how he's been performing.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Luca's gonna be Luca.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
But when you think about the depth of this Boston
Celtics team on the off, defensive and defensive end, I'm
totally convinced that they are.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Going to be to win the championship.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
I think just as a basketball fan enthusiast, I want
to see a series.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
I want to see it at least go to six.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
But the Celtics are killing them from every angle, seemingly,
and I don't know if they have enough to stop
the bleeding.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
We know what Luca can do, we know what Kyrie
can do, but who's the third option when all our spails?
And so this is what I said one PJ. Washington.
That move at the deadline made all the sense in
the world. You gave a couple of switch roles, a
bottle of fabreeze and Grant Williams to get PJ PJ Washington,
(09:43):
And I feel like PJ. Washington is everything that they
thought Brant Williams was going to be this season. But
then you add Daniel Gafford. And what's interesting about Daniel
Gafford is I watched like watching Gafford and Perzingis was
like Washington Wizards practice last year. But The difference is
I think from a national perspective, most people like you
(10:03):
should we may have assumed that because we are just
now looking at Perzgas with this lens in this way,
you're thinking about the Knicks years. You're thinking about the
Dallas years and how they didn't work out with with
Luca and with Gafford. I think the Landlord as they
call him, is a such a such a hit in
Jim in Washington that is now an asset to Dallas.
(10:25):
But I think that Dallas did so much to get
to this point. Some may argue that they've run out
of gas because they came out of nowhere, and for Boston,
people thought that they had an easy role. I think
we're still getting kind of actimated. Game one is always
a fill out game. It's like that. It's like it's
like Connect f you're filling out your opponent.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, yeah, it is filling out your opponent, and you
know you got to make chess moves.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
It's all about strategy.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Jason Kidd tried to do that, you know, saying Jaylen
Brown is the best player. Well, Tatum shot stuck up
the joint, but it didn't matter because he was facilitating
He was facilitating and everybody else stood up.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
And that's the other thing.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
The Celtics, I think, shot like twenty seven percent from three,
and the Mavericks still couldn't take advantage.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
You mentioned PJ Washington, he had seventeen points.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
But you have to convert on those wide open threes
that Kyrie and Luca give you because they are trying
to distribute and make plays when they don't need to
find their shot right. If you can't do that, then
it's not going to work out. Tim Hardaway Junior, I
know he's falling out of the rotation, but he's a
streaky guy. He can shoot the three, create his own shot.
(11:33):
I know he's up and down, but you might want
to give him an opportunity. If you're the Mavericks trying
to get back in this years and again, I still
have them winning the series in seven. I'm not changing
my prediction because the only cowards do that. I'm gonna
stand on business business then Chris Mavericks and the Celtics, Yeah,
we've got two or the Celtics have two more.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Games to win.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Meanwhile, the Mavericks looking to get their first win in
Game three, as this hopefully will be an exciting NBA
Finals the rest of the way. But quickly before we
transition into our next the next topic, who would be
your MVP right now?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Sharie?
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Oh Well, Drew Holliday is making a push.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
He looks really good.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
It would be kind of cool to see definitely kind
of what would have been an MVP that will come
out of nowhere considering what we've seen up to this point.
But you know, you know, I got a schoolgirl crush
on Jason Tatum.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
We all know that I'm pulling for him.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
It would be really nice for him to seal the
deal and get that just because of all that he's
you know, gone through and pushed towards finally winning a championship.
But in realistically speaking, I think Jaylen Brown's gonna gonna
pull out an MVP trophy. I really really do, and
obviously deserving as well. So I go with Jaylen Brown
from now.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
What about you, scoop Jameen Brown?
Speaker 3 (12:55):
What's saying you.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
I'm touring? I'd have to go Jaylen Brown right now?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
But Yourew Holiday after game two, he's making a strong
case right if he has another great two way game
as we've seen, where he just takes the right shots,
catching those lanes defends Kyrie and Luca amazingly.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Then he might be on his way.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
But yeah, for right now, I gotta go Jalen Brown
and our producer Lauren talking about yeah, high school's finest
shout out to Campbell Hall.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
All right, okay, Campbell Hall. See oh.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Laurence us every show.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Now it's literally like last week we found out she's
a Delta. Now she's down to the high schools. Hey, Lauren, girl,
what what's for next week? Just tell us now, so
you know that's what I'm saying. It's gonna be something.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
She's she's gonna tell us something next week.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Oh yeah, no, she definitely will.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Uh you know told us something though earlier this week
was Dan Hurley letting us know he has no interest
in going to the Lakers, and we're gonna dive into
that much deeper on the other side of the break, Terre,
I know you gave your thoughts earlier about Dan Hurley
turning down the Lakers position as a head coach that
reported off for sixty years seventy million, But Scoop, what
(14:22):
are your thoughts about.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Probably the hottest coach?
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Yeah, the hottest coach in college basketball, saying no to
Hollywood and Lebron.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
He's never going to Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
It's Mike.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
I was like, oh wait, hold up, there's got to
be more.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
He just liked, what does sound effecting.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Los Angeles? Would you like me to expand more? Yes?
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Please, I'd be happy.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
To have that.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
There was a report last week that came out that
JJ Reddick was the favorite. Many people in Los Angeles
felt that that was the case. I will tell you
that ESPN, the person who employees j Reddick, may have
(15:13):
been a little bit concerned about that because Doc Rivers
was a cautionary tale of just basically signing a deal
and then jumping ship. And if you think about it,
the first report that came out was a couple of
days before the NBA Finals, and then the report about
Hurley came out the open game one of the finals,
(15:34):
and there was a level of optimism. So there's a
couple of things that stand out. Obviously, for the report
to come out the way that they did on Hurley. Wales,
who broke the story, wrote a book about Hurley's dad,
which is a New York Times bestseller. He would definitely
have the information related to what was going on. But
(15:54):
from what I do know about JJ Reddick specifically and
people that I speak with that are familiar with his things,
there's an interest in coaching, but Los Angeles was not
necessarily as interested as some may think. I know that
there have there were engages of him looking to to
piece his staff together as far as assistant coaches go.
(16:16):
But ultimately, the Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of
things on the inside that need to be figured out.
And as much as Lebron was passing with leverage, and
you know some would say by sitting courtside at the
Cads game and you know, wanting his son to be drafted,
Philadelphia can also draft his son and Lebron does have
options on that in as far as Philly goes. But
(16:38):
as far as Hurley goes, that was all leveraged to
get Yukon to offer him an extension, and he got
what he wanted. The Los Angeles Lakers got rid of
their head coach in Darvin Ham, who had a very
difficult job and in trying to create unrealistic expectations of
(16:58):
winning a championship, and who wants that drama. And I'll
be honest with you, as much as you know, the
Lakers is interesting to maybe interesting to JJ Reddick. He
may take the job, he may not. It's different hosting
a podcast with Lebron James versus being around him David Day.
And the other thing is this as much as we're
(17:19):
talking about Lebron James and Anthony Davis, who's to say
that if the coaches at the Anthony Davis is liking
he does a request play.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Yeah that's real.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Yeah, I love that, giving us a behind the curtain
look at how everything has come.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Together, and yeah, we all know what you see put
out there.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
There's certainly there's always an agenda, right, doesn't mean it's
a bad agenda or a good one, but it's coming
from a certain source for a reason, and a certain
reporter or host insider is reporting because of their contacts,
and you show you have to have that perspective when
you're taking information.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
As opposed to, Oh, so JJ Reddick is you know
the favorite they've been looking at it all or Dan
Hurley is a favorite. No, that's not what's going on here.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
If you really understand how sports and business works when
it comes to these head coaching positions and other moves.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
But yet the.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Lakers position is just not as attractive as it once was,
right because you know, they have very little patience. Their management,
the roster management, I should say, has not been great.
Rabaulnka and Genie Buss definitely deserves some smoke there for
(18:41):
their miscalculations going all the way back to twenty twenty
after they won the NBA Finals in the bubbles. So
I'm not completely shocked, you know. The Scoots point, I thought, yeah,
this is probably a leverage move, but I didn't know
because if they offered him one hundred million dollars eight years,
that was going to be the table.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
I was like, Okay, I'll do it. But he's not
a West Coast guy.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
So yeah, I think the Lakers they have a lot
to uh to figure out, while the Yukon UH they're
just getting they're just getting better.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
The Hurley, the Hurley situation from a Lakers future standpoint
does make sense. When you have Ruiyachimura uh and some
of the other younger characters, you have Christy, you have
some of the other guys, but Lebron James and Anthony
Davis are still on your roster, and I don't know
that Hurley moves the needle for Lebron James and wait,
(19:37):
these moves at this point of the Lakers partnership with
Lebron seems very much the ending of Miami in twenty fourteen,
where he ended up leaving and going to Cleveland. I
don't want to I don't want to throw the baby
out with the bast water. But if you read it
between the things that I'm saying, leaving is an option,
and I think that that's that's away from your top
(20:00):
pick up just Dan Hurley. But it's kind of the
cherry on top to the whole cake where here's a
point where it runs its course. So if you're Lebron,
are you just chasing stats at this point and you're
just kind of okay with not winning rings because maybe
you know he's comfortable with that. But he doesn't owd
(20:21):
the city in Los Angelus anything else. He won a championship,
whether you want to criticize the effect of the bubble
or not. And going to Los Angeles was about production,
that was about space dam that was about the shot.
He gave Cleveland a championship. He got a championship. Going
to Miami was like going away to school. But ultimately,
at this point, it's about what Lebron wants like. It
(20:41):
has to be bigger than just Jack think his son,
and it has to be bigger than just riding off
in the sunset. So if you know anything about Lebron
he watched Abroadi's moves aren't that predictable. Yeah, there are
the change out there and other players he can team
with him and potentially win if that's what he wants
to do. It comes down to what he wants. And
with the Lakers one, I think they're both throwing smoke screens.
(21:02):
If you asked me, the Lakers can say they try
by get it he early.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Well, I'll say this very briefly.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
Any coach that comes into that, into that space and
position and accepts it has a lot on their hands
because you have to deal with the duality of a
superstar that is going to get whatever he wants, but
who's also on his way out, and also bear the
weight of a team that still needs a level of
development to move into the next iteration of what the
franchise will be.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
So good luck to whoever says yes.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
And speaking of rosters, let's talk to you as say
women's basketball when we come back, what's going on.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Everybody, Welcome back to the three on three pod, hanging
out with Scope Bee and Chris Williamson.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
Chagirl, Serina Cole, and we are now we get to
talk about a topic that has been going ham the
last couple of days. Nafisa Collier, Kalia Copper, Chelsea Gray,
Brittany Grinder, Sabrinna Nescue, Gewle, Lloyd Kelsey Plumb, Brienna Stewart,
Thomas Diana Tarassi, Asia Wilson, Jackie Young. You know this
one name I did not say, and that is what's
(22:06):
causing a stir, right name, That name is causing a
stir with people that actually know basketball. But there's another name, right,
But there's another name that's causing the stir for people
who may have trouble understanding and comprehending actually what it
takes to make tmosa And I'm talking about Kaitlin Clark
did not make the roster.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Chris.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
I'm jumping to you first, your initial thoughts and what
say you to how this will play into the women's
basketball space overall?
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Oh, I think that's doing a lot of people, a
lot of accomplished and respected journalists are really showing their
behinds in the worst way possible about how.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Oh do they not care about growing the game?
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Do they not?
Speaker 1 (22:47):
People?
Speaker 2 (22:48):
The objective is to win a gold medal. They have
done that seven times in a row. They are going
for their eighth straight. That doesn't get talked about enough
as one of the latest dynasty's ever. In international play
another thing, the physical play in the international level is
much worse than the w So you want to put
(23:11):
Kaitlyn on there.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Brace and we don't want that. We actually need her
for the season.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
That's what I'm saying. We want her to play, we
want to be healthy. Let her have a break.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
But for am and it's look if it's a business
for business reasons, Okay, I understand, but it's not going
to make or break the women's game going to New.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Heights, NOE.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
There'll be other opportunities for Kaitlyn Clark in the Olympics.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
This is not her last opportunity.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
So please, and for the love of God, could you
have some sense and understanding of how this works. This
is not a popularity contest. The Olympic Committee, they do
not care the basketball. Yeah, for teams, they don't care
about ratings. As Cheney Ogumak put it greatly the other night.
(24:03):
Their their business is to win gold and that is
the of the utmost importance. And the other thing that
I think people are missing is how well they said, well,
Kenneth Parker, you know, she she was on the roster.
You know, she made it, you know, coming from College
of Brianda Stewart, Sylvia Fowls. You know, yes, but they
also were part of that three year process going to
(24:23):
training camps. Caitlyn Clark has not done that right because
her teams have been in the final four, so she
hasn't been able to participate. And she already pointed out
recently how I don't I don't really know her. I
don't have a familiarity with her style outside of you know,
of course she's watching on TV, so she hasn't been
in the trenches with us. And again that's not a
(24:44):
shot at hers, it's just a reality. She does not
She did not deserve to make the roster, no basketball reasons.
She did not deserve it. And this is not about popularity.
So yeah, that's my take on all this nonsense. And
she did not get snubbed, she did not get left off.
There were other people. There were twelve other people who
were better than her, okay, and there's some more people
(25:05):
better than her after that, doesn't that's just it?
Speaker 6 (25:10):
Okay, As you question, I'm not a watching women in
the w n b A. I'm actually just enjoying watching
the game. It's Caleb Clark not making the USA robster more,
Isaiah Thomas not making it no more, not.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Making it let me break down, not even comfortable, neither neither.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Yeah, go ahead, SERI, I appreciate.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
It, Isaiah.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
From my from my vantage point, that really was more
of a get along kind of situation. I don't think
it had anything to do with his we all know
any all of us know the game. I had nothing
to do with his ability, nothing to do with his
stat lines at all. It was about how is he
going to fit in with this team from a morale standpoint?
Is he going to get along with the guys or
he's going to piss people off, get on their nerves.
It's unfortunate because he deserved to be on the team.
(25:56):
But I think at the end of the day, MJ
said nah, and then J guy with MJ one it
that's unfortunate. Kyrie sadly got himself into some trouble whether
people agree.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
With how or what it happened.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
And I think, again, it's all political with him. I
don't think it has anything to do with his ability.
I would have loved to see him on Team USA.
It was actually disappointed in that. With Caitlin, let's just
say this. She currently ranks one hundred and thirty two
out of one hundred and thirty eight qualified players and
the defensive Wins Share metric. She's leading the WNBA in turnovers. Okay,
she's shooting about thirty five point seven percent from the
(26:31):
field and less than thirty percent from three. She's not
even ranked at the top for the when we talk
about the rookie of the Year conversation, she's not even
in the top three. So when you and her team sucks, sorry,
but it's true. So when we throw all of these
things in there, just from a look at the number standpoint,
she doesn't measure up. Then you go into the physicality
(26:52):
of the game, which she's proven, she struggles with where
is she going to.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
What is she going to do?
Speaker 5 (26:58):
And then the people that are we U you let
her go anyway, and then when she sits the bench,
you're gonna be mad. And then these are the roster spots,
So who she gonna replace? The reality is this, we
live in a society and sadly, social media is a
big part of this where people complain and they think
they're supposed to get what they want because they raise
their voice in protest. It doesn't fit here. Protests doesn't
fit everywhere. You have the right to protest, but you
(27:20):
don't have the right to get your way just because you.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Want your way. And in this instance, I don't care
about what it means for like christ into the game
and grow the game. The game is growing, It's going
to continue to grow.
Speaker 5 (27:31):
And the people that are saying I'm not gonna watch,
no one's gonna miss you because you don't watch basketball.
You watch Kaitlyn Clark, you aren't going to watch anyway.
The world will be watching. No one's gonna lose anything.
Everything's gonna be fine, and these ladies are gonna get
a gold medal. Stop it, everybody beat. Like, if you're
gonna be involved with this game, and even if you
just like Kaitlin Clark, just just get to know the game.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Learn.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Don't sit up here and have a tantrum.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Because there's somebody who actually didn't deserve an opportunity and
didn't get one.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
We talked about Arique. If anybody should be protesting mad,
I'm not going to watch.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
I can't believe grow the game. That's what you should
be protesting behind and getting upset. But this is absurd,
And yes, high trolls. I'm not a Kaitlyn Clark hater,
but I am a Caitlin Clark realist and she shouldn't
have been on the team. And I'm actually proud of
those a Team USA who made a decision to put
their foot down and say, hey, the game and the
gold is too important for us to risk this level
(28:26):
of popularity and this popularity contest to inhibit what we're
trying to do. She'll she has other opportunities, she's a rookie,
she'll be there probably in the next four years.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
So everybody relaxed.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
And the other thing just quickly, Suri. We have people
talk about growing the game. If you actually had any interest,
any desire, any belief in growing the game, then you
would be talking about these first time Olympians like Kalia Copper,
who's been a dog, Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Jnaescu, Alyssa Thomas.
That is how you grow the game, right because Caitlyn
(28:58):
brings the eyeballs. And then you talk about all these
wonderful women for showing out night in and night out
to miss me with oh, grow the game. Growing the
game is talking about the Olympians who made the roster, thank.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
You and good night and good night, and Diana Tarassi
who's in her like fifteenth Olympics, but y'all don't want
to talk about that, which is incredible to me.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
She's the mellow or to eat Wadala of that team.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
I agreed. I absolutely agree with you.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
School.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
That's what I'm talking about. School.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
That's why I'm glad you're here to be able to
inform the people. And I'm so glad we were able
to spend this hour window with you. It's our first
time obviously working together, me and yourself and Chris, and
it's been an honor and hopefully we can make this
happen again. But thank you for all that you've invested
in the game of basketball and beyond, and it's been
a pleasure having you.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Thank you for the opportunity to be myself. I love that.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
That's what I'm talking about. Three on three pot is
the house for authenticity. And speaking of authenticity, I have
some authentic thoughts in our ball segment me and Chris
about head coach to the Indiana Fever, Christie Side, who
I think should be fired.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
But I'll talk about that more after the break. All right,
three on three five Family, we are back.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
And Sha Girl Sharid the cole back here with my
bro Chris Williamson for our jump ball segment. Now, this
is when we get to share our authentic thoughts about
things that may be going on in the basketball space.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
And something that's.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Been brewing that we've been talking about behind the scenes
that I'm glad we get to bring to the forefront.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Is Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides. I think she
needs to be fired, y'all. It's just getting weird.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
From her talking about her conversation with Kaitlyn Clark after
Kaitlyn didn't make the team and saying that Caitlyn told her.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
They've unleashed a monster. Now they've woken up a monster.
However you want to say that this is my thing?
Some stuff you just don't say.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
And mind you, if there wasn't all this hype around
Kaitlyn Clark. Then Christie Side is saying that actually wouldn't
be that big of a deal. But every little thing
that happens, every little thing that is said in reference
to Kaitlyn Clark, things that she may say. Because she
is so incredibly popular, you can't say everything. You can
(31:12):
include her in every conversation, especially when you say that,
because it just riles people up. And so I thought
that was very irresponsible of Christie Sides. I also think
it's been irresponsible of her to have the offense run
through Kaitlyn. I just don't agree with that. I think
Caitlyn's an incredible facilitator. I think we still underestimate what
she's been able to do in terms of getting the
ball to her teammates. And I know she's leading the
(31:33):
league in turnovers, but her court vision and awareness is special,
and when it's bridled, and when she gets you know,
in the weight room and gets some more experience in
the league under her belt, she's going to be a
force to be reckoned with.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
When it comes to getting her teammates involved.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
So I think that Christie Side is under utilizing the
other guards on the team. I have a problem with that,
and her press conferenced. What was this yesterday, I believe
or the other day was very strange when she talked
about you can't coach effort and it's appear she can't
even get her team to play hard and their record stinks.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
Get her out of there.
Speaker 5 (32:05):
I think she's been way to invest it in the
Caitlin Clark craze to really focus in on what she
has on her team and bettering them. I don't think
any coach goes into a situation where they don't want
to better their team. So don't get me, don't twist
my words, But what I'm saying is I think she's
getting caught up in the hype and I think because
of that, it's taking the focus, even on her end,
(32:25):
away from bettering this team and utilizing the weaponry that
they have, including Kaitlyn Clark, to win basketball games.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
I think it's time for her to go. I really
really do.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
And I like a job and I like people to
have their jobs. But in this case, I don't think
she's the right fit for the job.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Chris, what do you think?
Speaker 2 (32:44):
I'm with you, SERI, I don't think she's the right
fit for the job. Now, does that mean they need
to fire her tomorrow or next week. I don't know
about that. I don't know how much that would improve
the Fever's chances. Maybe before All Star Break or acting
in the year, right, because yeah, Christie Sides is waiting
over her head. And you brought it up brilliantly right
(33:07):
when you said she's caught up too much in the
hype of Caitlyn Clark and trying to appease her some
of her rabid fans, some of her ridiculous fans.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
And with that, she's.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Ignoring what happened to Leah Boston last year. The outcry
about the physical treatment that aliaht Boston had in her
rookie season that was nowhere to be found from Christie
Sides or the Fever's general manager. They were not posting
on social media about this needs to stop and this
(33:41):
is unacceptable. And then we have to address how you
need to show so much more discretion with your conversations
around your players are with your players, I should say,
Caitlyn Clark gets left off and you're over here. You
know she loves to get politically correct answers, right, So
why would you think even if Caitlyn didn't tell you explicitly, Hey,
(34:04):
don't tell anybody's don't tell anybody this that you should reveal. Heh, Yeah,
they woke up a monster. They woke up a monster. Coach,
Why would you want to just pour more gasoline on
the situation, just add more fuel to the fire. And
the other part is she doesn't have a pulse of
(34:25):
this team. She's not able to motivate them. When you're
talking about not being able to coach effort at this
point of the season in a vacuum, yes, okay, but
we've seen coaches be able to motivate their players to
get the best out of them. Doesn't mean they're always
going to win, but they are going to give their
(34:48):
best effort. And that is indicative. That's an indictment on
Christie's sides. And I know she's trying her best, but
to your points to read, she's way too caught up
in the Caitlin Clark high and she's losing track of
what this team needs to accomplish and one of them
being just needing to find an identity they don't have one.
(35:10):
So yeah, Christy side'es, you're gonna be looking for a
new job properly at the end of the year, all.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Right, Chris, Chris tells it like it is. I tell
it like it is.
Speaker 5 (35:18):
