The seventy six Ers postgame show right now on ninety
seven to five the Fanatic.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Welcome to the Parks Casino post game show. After a
one twenty six one twenty two Sixers win at home
against the Jazz, stop home for the Sixers. They'll be
in Atlanta tomorrow. It's their twenty second win. They give
the Jazz their fifth straight loss. The Jazz were hitting
(02:19):
threes Philipowski towards the end. They outscored the Sixers thirty
nine to twenty five and the fourth, but the Sixers
hold on one twenty six, one twenty two. Matt Murphy
with you. We'll hear from Tom McGuinness and Sixers coach
Nick Nurse after the four point win and four to
twenty five point scorers in the game, Tom Philipowski and
Keyante George for Utah and then Quinton Grimes and Lonnie
(02:41):
Walker the fourth for the Sixers.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Apparently you got the Bucks. Check this out. This is
an anomaly, right, But all of the Sixers arterers were
minus right, and all the reserves were plus Is that right?
That's right? Isn't that wild? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
The bench was huge, and in particular the second quarter
surge that they had, which included a thirty two to
eight scoring run within it, Jared Butler kind of I
know you talked to him after he started it. Doubton
did his part. Everybody on the bench when you talk
about being plus and the plus minus column, but no
one had a bigger game than Lonnie Walker the fourth
(03:16):
it's his first career double double in his three hundred
and thirtieth NBA game. The local guy, twenty five points,
eleven rebounds. What did you think of his game?
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Well, as I was saying with Jared Butler, at times,
his athleticism just leaps off the charts in a sport
where there are many dynamic athletes, and it's not just
a leaping ability like some of those graceful layup attempts
are just you know, just unbelievable to watch. So yeah,
eleven rebounds, and as you mentioned at dem bowenen with
(03:46):
the double double, those guys changed the tenor of the
game with how they played defensively in that late first
quarter into the second. And Lonnie Walker was really good tonight.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Bonus stat line included the five blocks, the most for
any player in the game. With the fourteen points and
the fourteen rebounds, they'll be in Atlanta tomorrow. But what
else can they build off from this game? Just the
fact that so many guys took advantage of the opportunity
and it didn't just have to be the Ubre and
Grimes show.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
No for sure. And again, like you know, would as
I always say, like talent experience opportunity and then in
that continuum confidence gets in there, and then look out,
a young player can begin to take off and kind
of get the underpinnings of a career. You know, I'm
not saying that this is gonna catapult somebody into a
(04:39):
whole new stratosphere, but it happens like in terms of
you know, like they get a chance and then look out,
And so hopefully that'll be the case here. And first
things first, you got to come back and do it again.
That's the other challenge in the NBA Atlanta. You know,
they've won thirty games. They're gonna be tough at home.
Trey Young's having a terrific season, Dyson Daniels very good defender.
(05:02):
They have Resus Shay and and on.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
They now have Laverge new looking, yeah, new look from
trading DeAndre Hunter.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yep, so they're you know, it won't be I'm not
gonna say as easy, but a bit of a different
challenge and you gotta do it again. You can see
if you can back it up. That's the rest. It'll
be a tough night, quick turnaround tomorrow, hydration, get ready,
and then see if you can't back it up tomorrow.
Matt Murphy.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Tom again is the Sixers post game Show presented by
Parks because you know they beat the Jazz one twenty
six one two And we can join coach in proacress
when we get him, and I'm sure he'll touch on this,
but to the point your point about the plus minus
not a lot of minutes for those starters because of
how well the second unit was rolling, So do you
think that was kind of the strategy. I'm sure he'll
address why they starters played so few minutes.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Well, and those guys are playing well and this kind
of was a game that suited the younger players.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
And and here's the coach bounding part of it. And
where have you seen the.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Most progress from a dem since he got his first
NBA minutes.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
To now.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
That you know that was really, you know, super good
version of him out there tonight, I think again, when
he's bouncy and and running and.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Kind of settled into the game, which he which he
did right from the start.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Then he then he's he's good every now and then
it seems to get going a little too fast for him.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
But he just tracked the ball all night.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
I thought he was blocking his own guys shot, he was,
you know, helping his teammates as well. Uh, he was
a threat on the glass offensive glass. I don't know
how many offensive rebounds he had, uh seven, but he
was he was really you know, probably around another seven,
you know, just he was really putting pressure on them
(06:45):
at the rim. He got a couple of key put backs, uh,
I thought as well. So he was just loved the
rim protection. I think seemed like it was more than
five blocks to me, right, it seemed like he had
about eight or nine that he was. He just kept
kept knocking him out of there, which was great.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
He kind of defends on the balls of his feet
and supposed to defendine flat footed.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Is that something that you've noticed and something that had
to teach him more to be consistent about?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Well, I would say this too.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Not only did he protect the rim, but as you
guys saw, he got switched out onto the guards a lot,
and he did a great job of of knowing knowing
the player he was guarding, you know, you know, pressing
up and not giving up the three getting sending him
to the to the next help.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Side guy or whatever it was.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
He just did a good job of or or when
they did go buy him, he just chased him down
from behind and and made the shots tough. So he's
he's you know, super athletic as you as you can
see in all fascet He's got quickness and jumping ability,
and he was using it all tonight, you guys, a big.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Spark up yah, offensively, scoring a playmaking things. I thought,
what did you just got to make up?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
His playmaking was great, like you know, really playing all
parts of the pick and roll. You know, he was
he was hitting the hitting the role guy, swinging it
out to the weak side for open shots, getting it
into the slot guy for open shots. I mean, really
really looked good as a pick and roll player tonight.
And I thought he gave us a ton of catch
and shoot opportunities and and some stuff at the rim.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
He went to Alex Reese, I think in both halves
seemed really active. I think nine reguns, three steals. I
guess what did you make of his minutes? What have
you seen for him so far, whether that's with six.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Years or with the Yeah, so he's I think he's
played in his minutes for us, He's played very hard
and he's been effective. He's he's really a uh, you know,
kind of a tough rebounder. He goes up and when
he when he rebounds him, he's he's you know, snatching
him down and kind of command and uh the ball,
and obviously he's not afraid to shoot from the perimeter.
(08:55):
But again, I thought he played just really hard and
and really effectively. So it's kind of why we went
back to him.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Person I think only played that initial stint to start
each half. Was that the plan was there something different
going on?
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Is that it was not the plan, But that's kind
of the way it just unfolded, right. I think that.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Obviously our bench played amazing tonight, and uh, Bona was
you know, really really good in the first half, So
we went back to him early in the second and
just let him run it all the way out.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Just kind of the way it unfolded tonight. Yeah, playing
the second half, is that just Yeah, just battling that
illness a little bit.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
And again we we started Yaboo and and then went
to Bona, and Bona was playing good, and we just.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Figured we'd let him try to recover a little bit.
Is he dealing with anything the young wos? Yeah, not
y I mean not that I know of, Keith. I
mean other than just heavy minutes, lots of minutes, lots
of games. Yeah, I know.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
You know you mentioned that at practice that that Tyrees
could be questionable for tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
May mean, do you have like an idea on his.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Status for tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Well, he did some on court work today.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
He remains questionable. So I mean That's where I'm at
right now. We'll see, you know what it looks like
in the morning.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
All right, everybody? Thank you.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Nick Nurse on the Sixers postgame show presented by Parks
Casino after his team, the Sixers beat the Jazz one
twenty six in Philly, I said this pregame, but it
it is the first of what will be three straight
Sunday Monday back to backs, and all the other games
as part of it are on the road starting tomorrow
(10:40):
night in Atlanta. There are games in between, but just
a back to back heavy March with five of them
for the Sixers, who are back in the win column
by four against Utah. They hold on double doubles for
the first time in their career. For the rookie of
dem Bona with the five blocks, fourteen and fourteen and
(11:02):
Lonnie Walker, the fourth line was twenty five points, which
was tied with three other players for the leading scorer
in the game, including his teammate Quinton Grimes. Walker had
twenty five eleven rebounds, five assists and a steal in
thirty four minutes off the bench. Thanks again to Tom
McGinnis for sticking around before coach there and what I
(11:25):
started to talk to Tom about, and we'll do our
audio highlights featuring Tom's calls in the very next segment.
But the minutes when we talked plus minus and what
the team was able to do scoring wise, how many
points four and points against with you on the floor,
that the starters for the Sixers were minuses, the bench
players were pluses and significant ones at that. Alex Reese,
(11:47):
who was mentioned there, who played fifth teen minutes, the
new Sixers two way contract player that can go back
and forth from the G League. The six foot nine
former Alabama Crimson Tide player. He was a plus twenty
nine in that column, which is the best for any player,
and Justin Edwards played the most of the starters, was
a minus thirty four. But Yabusele played eleven minutes and
(12:09):
thirty nine seconds, Drummond played ten minutes, even Ubre played
less than twenty minutes, so Grimes and Edwards logged the
heavy starters minutes and to close the loop, it was
just the combo that Tom and I discussed about how
well the reserves were playing Walker, Butler, Bona, Dalton, Counsel
and Reese on a night where seven players are out
(12:31):
for the Sixers, that they were able to with the
back to back Nick Nurse said before the game that
in particular, Yabu, Slee, Ubra and Grimes were logging so
many games around forty minutes that he was hope to
keep an eye on that in these back to back situations,
(12:52):
and that's exactly what they did tonight and they got
the Wine six one twenty two. The audio highlights the
game as called from start to finish, with key plays
coming up on the other side. The Sixers by four
and this is the Sixers Parks Casino postgame show Sixers
and the Jazz tonight in Philadelphia, and let's jump right
(13:13):
in in this segment with stats on the other side
and the recap. Let's jump in with the audio highlights.
Here's how tonight's game sounded, as called by Tom McGinnis
with the Sixers and Jazz in Philly. Matt Murphy here
with you on the Sixers postgame show presented by Parks Casino.
The Sixers were in blue uniforms, the Jazz in white uniforms.
Twenty games left in the season, there were sixteen players
(13:37):
out tonight combined between the two teams, nine for Utah,
seven for the Sixers, including Embiid Maxi and George. The
starting lineup was Quentin Grimes, Kelly oubre Junior, Justin ed
where it's Gershan Yabusele and Andre Drummond. Utah started this
game up nineteen to ten, twenty to twelve on a
Johnny Juzang three, and soon after it became a nine
(14:00):
to zero run and their largest lead of the night
courtesy of Kiante George staying with it in the assist
from Kyle Philipowski had a big scoring game.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Kyle, you're on a drawn kick to George outside right,
he dribbles, can't get it to go rebound Philipowski back
down low and George alia good underhand beat by Philipowski
and George didn't quit on the play. He missed a three,
but he cut in from the right wing and got
it back and laid it in twenty eight to twelve
the Utah Jazz with a commanding early lead.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Twenty five points for Kyle Philipowski, the rookie from Duke
who played with Jared McCain seven rebounds, three steals with
his twenty five points, Kyante George matched him with twenty five,
so George is the one who got the bucket on
the cut. There seventeen of George's points in the second half,
both with twenty five for the visiting Jazz, and they
(14:52):
after a six ers six to zero closing run in
the first had a thirty two to twenty seven lead.
But here comes the Sixers second unit Jared Butler tonight
with Lonnie Walker, the fourth Ricky Counsel, the fourth Alex
Reese a dem Bona, and they cut in in a
big way. There was also an amazing moment between quarters
(15:15):
with the Toyota salute to service in partnership with the Sixers,
and it was a surprise version Lieutenant Omari Jamal Faulkner
surprising his family. And then the Sixers came storming out
of the second quarter huddle. Butler in the beginning, Jeff
Dalton junior lad and A den Bona part of it
in between. How about a thirty two to eight scoring
(15:37):
run for the Sixers that Ademn caps with a dunk.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
Halfway through the second A den Bona to Quinton Grimes,
who has three points in the game. Down to Bona
given go in. A dem Bona dunks the ball. Sixers
looking for their twenty second win on the ear. A
den Bona off the bench with energy. We'll hear more
from a den Bona in this game. But in the
first half he played twelve minutes, had four points, five
(16:06):
rebounds and a block. Sixers up forty eight forty, Utah
got within one. kJ Martin, the former Sixer who in
this game had fourteen all five starters for Utah in
double figures, plus Georgia's twenty five off the bench. kJ
Martin's three made it fifty five fifty four. Utah trailed
(16:26):
by one. Then Quinton Grimes was fouled for a three.
He made all three, and then he carried that into
a personal eight to zero scoring run. Quinton Grimes with
twelve in the second quarter, six is Paul Ronnie Walker
to Grimes for three, and he nails it. Quinton Grimes
in his third three six straight points. He's got four
(16:48):
thirty six is by seven.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Sixty one fifty four. He made it eight straight, sixty
five to fifty eight the halftime score. After a thirty
eight twenty six second quarter for the Sixers, the third
quarter was all about reddings Lonnie Walker, the fourth who
had sixteen in it. Grimes on the assist.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Lonnie Walker with a left hand layup, upping good. What
Nick Nurse said about a week or so ago, I
expect Walker to kind of find his groove, and he has.
He had seventeen in Boston. He's got a dozen now
sixers by eleven.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Walker tied his career high for rebounds by halftime with eight,
gets to a dozen points in a seventy two sixty
one game. Later in the third it's Walker on the
assisting end, this time after an Alex Reese block shot,
and it's Jared Butler lining up the three.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Six is by eleven. The Elane Potter up fake dun't
contempt blocked by Alex Reese. He said, some good defensive plays.
Butler will try it again and that's good Sharon, Butler
has found the range man with d He's got fifteen.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Butler went three for six from three. He ended with
fifteen points. Did have nine assists to lead the Sixers
that time. The assist comes from Walker and with it
off the rebound. That was the play in which Walker
secured his first NBA double double in his three hundred
and thirtieth NBA game. His final line twenty five points,
(18:28):
eleven rebounds, five assists, and won steal in thirty four minutes.
He had twenty of his twenty five in the second half,
sixteen in the third quarter, and the Sixers were up
one oh one eighty three going into the fourth. Now
it wouldn't be all smooth sailing right sensible who had
(18:49):
a good game when they met in Utah. As a starter,
he was among those double digit scorers and to get there,
he had back to back threes in the fourth.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Utah with the ball the Jazz going left to right.
All of their field goals in the fourth are three,
Sensible trying to add to that total, and he does
down it goes Bryce Sensible his fourth three, and Utah
has made it a six point.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Game, fourteen points, four for seven from three. Philipowski, when
he tied his career high with twenty five, was four
for nine and he would hit some still to come.
But Quentin Grimes made four threes for the Sixers, and
he had twenty five points like the others mentioned, including
Walker most recently so, one ten, one oh four. After
(19:40):
the second Censible three, the Sixers up by six, Grimes
puts them up eight. A dem Bona a putback dunk
in an eight point game again, and then how about
another dunk for a den Bona and one of Jared
Butler's nine helpers.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Man the Sixers inbound. They outlet down the court and
Bona with a jam. Utah had pressure the Sixers break
it and get a jam. It's a six point game.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
One twenty one, fourteen. And how about for a dem
Bona those first half numbers. He went from four points,
five rebounds, two steals and a block to fourteen points,
fourteen rebounds, two steals, and five blocks for the game,
his first career double double. In his rookie season, ten
of his fourteen points in the second half, nine of
(20:29):
his fourteen rebounds, and four of his five block shots.
And I talked to him after. I think he thought
it could have been more blocks. But they're happy with
the win because Philipowski made a couple of threes late
to make it a one possession game. But ultimately the
Sixers hold on despite a thirty nine to twenty five
fourth quarter and beat the Jazz one twenty six one
twenty two. They've taken both games from them in the
(20:50):
season series. They win it in the series against Utah
on the front of the end of a back to
back that will have them travel to Atlanta. Sixers are
twenty two and forty one. The Jazz are fifteen and
forty nine. The shooting totals tonight the Sixers forty five
percent from the field, thirty four from three, and ninety
(21:11):
six At the line. They were twenty four for twenty five.
Quentin Grimes was a perfect nine for nine, so was
Lonnie Walker six for six, Edwards four for four. I
guess I could go on and on. If there was
only one miss out of twenty five. The Jazz were
eighty four percent from the line twenty six for thirty one,
they were thirty nine percent from three eighteen for forty six,
(21:35):
and they were forty two percent from the field thirty
nine of ninety three forty six three point attempts for Utah,
making eighteen forty seven attempts for the Sixers making sixteen.
The Sixers won the middle quarters seventy five to fifty one.
Good quick math as I pat myself on the back.
(21:58):
They were outscored by fourteen in the third, but the
middle quarters seventy five to fifty one the final one
to twenty six one twenty two. Sixteen players were out,
including for the Jazz Jordan Clarkson, John Collins, Lowry Markinen,
Colin Sexton, Walker Kessler was out for Rest Tonight, among
(22:21):
others including well markt In their leading score Five of
their top six scorers except Keyante George did not play.
But for the Sixers, I mean the injury report headlined
by Mbi, George and Maxi, so a lot of inactives.
The Sixers will play Atlanta next. Our stat of the
(22:42):
game is the bench scoring. The Sixers bench this season.
This is why it's the stat of the game was
averaging thirty thirty points per game. Coming in Tonight, they
scored seventy eight, led by Walker's twenty five. Lonnie Walker
(23:03):
the fourth with his first career NBA double double twenty
five and eleven rebounds, a new career high for rebounds.
His highest scoring game in the NBA is thirty one.
He was six points off of that. It was his
three hundred and thirtieth game former Spur Laker net Celtic
this preseason, he was playing in Lithuania and now he's
on the Sixers, and he had his best game as
(23:24):
a Sixer off of his previous high scoring game Thursday
in Boston. Eleven points for Justin Edwards was the next
highest scoring starter behind Quentin Grimes. Is twenty five, fifteen
for Jared Butler with nine assists, a Den Bona fourteen
fourteen and five blocks, eight points for Alex Reese six
(23:48):
points for him counts so with eight Dalton Junior with ten,
six each for Drummond and uber Yabusele didn't score on
three attempts, only played eleven minutes and thirty nine seconds
as a starter. With the Sixers back in action tomorrow night,
that'll be it for tonight's post game coverage, We're back
with you tomorrow. The seventy six Ers postgame show is
(24:12):
presented by Parks Casino. The final score Philadelphia won twenty
six Utah one twenty two. Thanks to our engineer Marty Dickerson,
producers Matt Manrick and Sean Rodman, and of course Tom
McGinnis on the call that game. Tomorrow Monday night start
a seven to thirty pm Eastern road start against the
Hawks in Atlanta, and our coverage here on the Sixers
(24:32):
Radio Network, presented by Jackpot City Casino, will begin at
seven twenty Eastern. Atlanta is coming off a win by
two points over Indiana yesterday. They are thirty and thirty four,
their seventh in the East. The Sixers are eleventh at
twenty two and forty one. The Nets behind them are
twenty one and forty two and have lost seven straight.
(24:56):
The Bulls are the tenth seed in the final play
in tournament team and they're twenty six and thirty eight.
So it's a three and a half game advantage difference
between Chicago and Philadelphia in the NBA Eastern Conference standings,
But until tomorrow in Atlanta, I'm Matt Murphy saying so
(25:17):
long from the center, Thanks so much for listening, Have
a great start to your week, and take care
