Marks Casino postgame Show. After a one thirty one to
twenty five road win in Dallas for the Philadelphia seventy
six Ers, Matt Murphy here with you. They win the
season series against the Mavericks to nothing. It's the start
of a six game road trip. It's the front end
of a back to back. They'll be in Houston tomorrow
night and a game with nineteen players out. Quinton Grimes

(02:18):
leads the Sixers against his team from earlier this season,
the Mavericks, with twenty eight points, twenty nine points and
twelve rebounds for PJ. Washington of the Mavericks. We'll hear
from Tom McGinnis and from Nick Nurse.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah again, like had ten guys used them all. I
thought everybody contributed a little bit. And really I thought
the second half we did a really good job of
running the offense and just much more organized. And the
two point guards Jared and Jeff, I just give them
credit for really making sure guys were we're getting to

(02:53):
where they needed to be, and we started executing some
stuff and and I thought we got really good shots
most of the half, got a little hairy down the
fourth quarter. Que had to kind of manufacture something late.
But and then obviously, uh, you know, really good adjustment
at halftime. Defensively, the guys really really played a great
third quarter defensively, and I think they know that obviously
turned the game around for us.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
But today it was.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Contract today you can get a new guy and.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Yep, yep, yeah, I mean again it's there's a lot
of a lot of new go you know, new guys.
You look at the second unit, you could you could say,
four of the five other than Jeff, are you know,
pretty new. You know, Alex, Alex and O'Shea, Jalen Schuma
all pretty new displaying a couple few games for us.

(03:51):
So again, they they just did a decent job. I thought,
I thought, you know, we did. We kind of played
them in groups, you know, the the second five played
together and they held their own. Obviously you had really
good stretching the third quarter, so we let them, let
them run a little bit. But I think it gave them,
gave the other guys enough for us to come back
in and finish. Proud of Rickey, Council been asking him

(04:15):
to rebound, got ten rebounds tonight. That's you know, a
good good job by him, Oshaberseett. We know he's a
good rebounder. I had a couple a couple of good
putbacks and the at the offensive end. For so again,
all ten guys, all ten guys helped us today.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Competitive spirits, sad points.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
You want to win every game, you know, but then
when we look at you.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
What the team is going through right now, some people
may dang many blew they should have lost to night.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
What's your mindset or you yeah, yeah, say same. But
they said before the game, and we're gonna prepare this
group to go out there and have some success, right
and we want them you know, they're they're you know again,
they played very well tonight, this group of guys. And
and again I just thought they kept making enough shots,
shot the ball well in from three you know, you know,

(05:06):
rebounded well enough, you know all those kind of you know,
they just did everything well enough, and probably the three
balls are the difference in the end. And uh again,
we just want to prepare them well and give these
guys a chance to show what they can do and
have some success. Yep, okay, thanks everybody.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Sixers coach Nick Nurse.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Murph, All right, now we get a chance to talk
after the five point win for the Sixers. This is
the Parks Casino post game show for the Sixers who
won one thirty five. Nick Nurse as always part of
the program, and Tom, I'm going to ask you one
of the same questions I asked you after Friday Night's
game against Indiana. Which Sixers stood out to you today

(05:46):
because we're still getting to know some of these guys.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, well, certainly Quinton with the scoring, and then you
look like four starters were in double figures. Three guys
off the bench, Hutchefina with a career high nineteen. Coach
was really high on Ricky with the ten rebounds. Council
made a big play like, you know, they had a
chance coming down and he poked that he had just
missed a layup. It was kind of a wild circus

(06:09):
type shot that Klay Thompson had a hand in defending
for Dallas. But then when they come down, Ricky never
gives up on the play and tips the ball away
and that led to a steel and that you know,
Dallas needed as many possessions to try to get points
down the stretch, trailing by three, and and like that
that was a big play. So they had a bunch

(06:29):
of different guys. Oshae Brissett had thirteen points and five rebounds.
Jeff Dowtin Junior had another good game fifty percent from
the field, fourteen points, three assists, so a lot of contributions,
you know. And then overall, like the defense was a
big thing in the third quarter, outscoring them by by sixteen.
I believe they only scored eighteen points in the quarter.
They had Dallas thirty nine in the fourth, so when

(06:52):
you look back, that was an important phase. And then
the Sixers made four more threes. And then it's kind
of a curious decision by Dinwitty. You know, I think
he thought the Sixers were going to foul and then
he could potentially get a four point play because you know,
he took that shot. They had twelve seconds. He took
that thing within a second. So that ended up being
you would have to kind of judge that as a

(07:13):
poor decision by them, because if they score it, they
tie the game, and you know, you have chance for
a couple actions there when you have twelve seconds, some screens,
when you want Klay Thompson coming off a screen for
a clean look. So Dinwitty, who certainly can make some shots,
took that and that was a curious event there at
the end of the game on the part of the Mavericks.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
And twelve seconds is probably the reason the Sixers wouldn't
foul in that situation, right, that's a little bit too
much time to intentionally foul and give up two free
throws while only leading by three. So you'll take it
if you're the Sixers and off balance to fade away
tying f from three for Dinwiddie and then HUDs Chaffino
tax on the two free throws to win the game
by five. Before we look at Houston tomorrow night, because

(07:57):
it's a back to back tom Orlando did complete that
comeback to end Cleveland's winning streak at sixteen games. And
Orlando had all the injury trouble early and they were
still winning, but now they haven't been winning of late.
But that Cleveland winning streak was the longest in the
NBA this season at sixteen games. They had another one
of fifteen games and OKC had one of fifteen games.

(08:18):
How about this, It's the the Cavs first loss since
the trade for DeAndre Hunter.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Wow, that's something, right, And there's also a stat with
the fifty six wins or something in there that you know,
these teams that have done that.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Have won the finals the six ers twice when you've
won like fifty six of your first sixty six, right.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
So yeah, no, they're very impressive. We've not seen them
in a while. I don't think that we're going to
see them again in terms of the Cleveland Cavaliers, but
obviously their rolling and Hunter was a great acquisition for them,
so that's a big win. Orlando's shown a lot of
shall we say, you know, with the injuries they had
earlier with Wagner and pollow Out, how well they competed

(08:58):
at that time. They've shown a lot of spunk, I guess,
is what I'm trying to say. And so a lot
of grit. Last year. I felt like, you know, everyone
also felt like Orlando was ahead of the ahead of
the schedule, like in terms of where they were in
their stage development wise, and they're they're showing a lot
of grit this year as well. So interesting around the

(09:19):
NBA and yep onto Houston where the Rockets have won
what six in a row, they're playing really well.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yep, six in a row for the Rockets. The Sixers
won't see those Cleveland or Orlando teams since we saw
a lot of the Calves in the Magic earlier in
the season. They won't see them down the stretch of
this season, but they will see Houston tomorrow. Then it's
four more games on this six game road trip and
six in a row for the Rockets. They're forty three
and twenty five. They're second in the West, very good

(09:46):
home record at twenty five and ten, but they're without
a men Thompson because of a bad ankle sprain. How
much of an impact will that have because he had
a big game when the Sixers saw Houston back in November.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
He was so impressive. I just like he guarded so well.
But they did a tremendous First of all, they had
the development of Shongoon, Like you know that he would
be considered one of their younger players, but he's really
come on. And then they added with what they've added
with Brooks and van Fleet. They've done a really good
job of melding their growth with their young picks and

(10:22):
their young talent with Green and the like, and then
adding the veteran pieces and then Udoka's done a terrific job.
So you talk about a little if you were to
go back three or four years where the Rockets were
and now where they are, they'd be a little bit ahead.
But again, it's really prudent strategy and roster construction and
what they've done with their talent. So they're going to

(10:44):
be a really good team and again another interesting team
to watch in the Western Conference playoffs and it should
be a good look see for the Sixers tomorrow. A
little bit better for the Sixers in that they travel
down to Houston tonight or today. You know where a
game helps, Yeah, back to back, but yep, different circumstance
when you play at noon.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
That November twenty seventh game was a one twenty two
to one to fifteen Rockets win in overtime and Philly
Maxi had thirty nine, Jalen Green had forty one. And
this was Thompson's stat line nineteen points, thirteen rebounds, three steals,
and three blocks. And he's he's out for a few
weeks for the Rockets. But we'll do this again tomorrow,
back to back in Texas with the Rockets up next
tom again as thanks as always, all.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Right, good night Worth.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Six Ers won thirty, Mavericks won twenty five on part
one of the Texas Back to Back. It's a Sixers
victory and we are not done yet. We will have
the audio highlights. The game has called from start to
finish by Tom with the key plays as called by
Tom throughout and look at the box score stat of
the game to be selected as we move along. But

(11:48):
we'll do the highlights coming up after a break. It's
the Sixers one thirty. The Mavericks won twenty five. And
this is the Parks Casino postgame show. This is the
seventy six Ers Parks Casino postgame Show. Matt Murphy back
here with you. After the Sixers first win in a
week's time. So they had a three game losing streak
after beating Utah last Sunday night, with losses to Atlanta,

(12:12):
Toronto and Indiana. We will get through the box score
and the standings updates and all that a little later
on in our postgame programming. But let's hear how the
game sounded. It's a six game road trip for the
seventy six Ers. It was a lengthy injury report again

(12:34):
with nineteen players on it. Including Kyrie Irving now for
Dallas with the torn ACL about two weeks ago, so
that has happened since the first meeting of the season
between the two, which was a Sixers win, one to
eighteen one sixteen, the all time series coming in tied
at forty three, and the Sixers with their forty third

(12:57):
different starting lineup in their sixty seventh game, the most
in the NBA, the fourth most in a season since
nineteen seventy five seventy six. Going back historically, it was
Jared Butler, Quinton Grimes, the former Maverick, Justin Edwards, Ricky
Council the fourth, and gershan Yabusele in a game that
would feature eleven ties and eleven lead changes. PJ. Washington

(13:21):
of Dallas was the story early in this game. He
had missed about two weeks because of a right ankle
sprain that kept him out of games earlier in the
season and then the last two weeks as well, but
Washington didn't miss a beat. Forces at time out for
the Sixers. As the Mavericks take the lead.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Edwards knocks it away from Grimes, Brandon Williams to PJ.
Washington and he gets another slam Duncan. Now the Sixers trail,
they're gonna take a time out. As PJ. Washington, he's
back a strong games to start. He's got ten of
their fourteen. We played five to fifteen Dallas, fourteen the

(14:01):
Sixers thirteen.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Tom McGinnis on the call of Sixers Mavericks in Dallas.
The Sixers were wearing white uniforms this afternoon for the
Sunday Mattine the Mavericks in Navy blue.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
PJ.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Washington with fourteen points in the first quarter, twenty in
the first half, and twenty nine in the game to
lead all scorers, but after trailing fourteen to thirteen on
that play, the Sixers they would lead after the first
quarter because partly because Jalen Hoods s Chaffino, the Sixer

(14:37):
of about two plus weeks now on a two way
contract that was in the Luka Doncicic trade, going from
the Lakers, where who drafted him seventeenth overall, to the
Utah Jazz, who were the third team in the trade.
The Jazz waved them the Sixers signed him on March first.
He had three first quarter threes.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Jock clock down Dallas in his own Jalen hook Jeffito
from well beyond the arc, puts it in from the
left perimeter, a twenty nine footer man He's got his
second three six ers by a half a dozen.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Twenty nine twenty three, it was thirty six thirty two
after the first quarter in which the Sixers went six
for twelve from deep put Chaffino with half of those.
He added another one in the first half for twelve points,
which is a new NBA career high was ten as
a rookie for the Lakers in Detroit at the end
of November twenty twenty three, six Ers thirty six, Mavericks

(15:32):
thirty two. It was an eleven to two start to
the second quarter for Dallas, which became fifteen to two,
became nineteen to four. It's a Mavericks team that has
Klay Thompson on it this season, and as they built
their lead through their large just of the game at eleven,
it was Thompson defensively and then offensively.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Back out to Brandon Williams of the break of the
three point art Carl lef side, but no good. Dallas
is three or fourteen. They steal the outlet. Clay Thompson
cash is in at two Sixer is thrown away oh
shape per set right to Clay Thompson. He made quick
work of that turnover. Fan Dallas now with a field.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Goal sixty three fifty two Mavericks. Thompson in the game
twenty one points, three for seven from three, his season
high in Dallas on a campaign in which during a
campaign he's averaging fourteen, shooting just under forty percent from three.
His season high was twenty nine on December fifteenth, the

(16:31):
Mavericks at the Warriors, his old stomping grounds, when he
scored twenty nine twenty one. This afternoon, Dallas was up
sixty three fifty two. Former Maverick Quinton Grimes, though, helped
the Sixers have it at four points heading to the locker.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Room sixty eight sixty one. Download a final five seconds,
reaes in the corner up top Crimes. He'll shoot it
from there and it's good. Quinton Grimes puts it in
his second three.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
He had a team high twenty eight in the game
thirty two minutes of action, ten for nineteen from the field,
two for seven from three, and six for nine from
the free throw line. He had six assists with his
twenty eight points, but Dallas outscored the Sixers thirty six
twenty eight in the second quarter for a sixty eight
sixty four halftime lead. Early in the third, Ricky Council
the fourth. One of his ten rebounds was on the

(17:17):
offensive glass. Here in a baseline jam to tie it.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Up outside right Grimes with it. Here's a three by Grimes.
That's no good. Ricky sweeps in for the rebound and
gathers it. The Council has it again. Double it o baby.
He rocks the room. Ricky Council raars back with a
right hand stuff seventy four all.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Third career double double for Ricky Council, the fourth the
second year pro out of Arkansas, but Wichita stayed earlier
in his college career. His second double double of the
season he had won as rookie tie game. Later in
the third, gershon Yabuseele and the Sixers stretched the lead
with a trail.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Three Dinwiodie and Christy Christie drives it, loses it six
Ers through the ball. Another active play there by Yabu Sele,
Jerry Butler to kershon Yabusele for three, and he makes
the play at both ends of the court. He's got
fourteen points the Sixers with their eleventh May three in
the ball game.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Eighty seven seventy nine. The fourteen points with six rebounds
and two steals for Yabu. It was a thirteen point
game for Council to get his double double with the
ten rebounds. Eighty seven to seventy nine for the Sixers
became a ninety eight eighty six lead after three in
Dallas because of a thirty four to eighteen third quarter.

(18:39):
The Sixers heading into the fourth with a nineteen and
three record this season when leading through three fourth quarter.
Jeff doll Jor and this Sixers bench had a big game.
He's coming off a career high twenty four points and
he gets a nice steal along the sidelines and slams it.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Dinwidy will play in eight ten to go in the
game to Klay Thompson with it cross court, throws it away,
but Din Whitty gains a pack and now he loses it.
Here's Talton Junior with a throwdown, going in and dunking
that ball.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Fourteen points today for Jeff Dalton Junior in twenty minutes
off the bench. It was one ten ninety eight Sixers
part of fifty seven bench points, and they averaged thirty
one point three bench points on the season. Dalton had fourteen,
which Schafino had a career high nineteen after the twelve

(19:34):
in the first half. O'she Brisset, his second game on
a ten day contract, he had another strong fourth quarter.
He had thirteen points in the game. Five points for
Tchuma okk who's signed his second ten day contract, albeit
about a month later with the Sixers this morning, and
he had five and Alex Reese had six. But the
Mavericks weren't done yet. With the Sixers up nine and

(19:56):
two minutes plus left in regulation, back to back threes
for Dallas's Spencer Dinwiddie and Clay Thompson, and then later
than that, with twenty four seconds left, they had an
unsuccessful coaches challenge from Jason Kidd in his fourth season
coaching the Mavericks. It was a foul on Naji Marshall
against Quinton Grimes, who sunk both free throws for a

(20:16):
one to twenty six, one twenty three lead, and that
was after Dallas was closing in. Naji Marshall's tip layup
had it at a single digit game. A little bit before.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
That, Dallas gets it back out the Washington after a
miss his three is no good, but a follow Naji
Marshall puts it up an end, great timing leaping through
the Sixers and with that Dallas now with fifteen second
chance points yet eight point game.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
So Marshall was their starting center tonight twenty one points,
eight rebounds, six assists. Their only center available was Dwight Powell,
who played thirteen minutes and for the Sixers at den
Bona was out, so their only center was Gershon Yabusele,
so it was small ball today. Marshall one of the
three to twenty point scores again for the Mavericks, who
did that against Houston on Friday. Just the one for

(21:10):
the Sixers was Quintin Grimes. They would get even closer
than eight with the back to back threes as mentioned
to make it a one possession game, and it was
a three point lead again after the Grimes free throws
at one twenty six, one twenty three PJ. Washington had
an easy two to get within one point with fifteen
seconds left, and then after some free throws, it was

(21:30):
a three point game again. One twenty eight, one twenty five,
Dinwity missed a wing three out of a time out
with twelve seconds left. Jalen hoods Chafino added two free
throws and the Sixers go on to win on the road,
one thirty one, twenty five. They now lead the all
time series that was tied at forty three twenty four
forty three, and they win the season series two to nothing.

(21:51):
These Sixers are now twenty three and forty four on
the season. Dallas falls to thirty three and thirty six.
They're only one game up on Phoenix for the final
play in spot in the West, but they had lost
eight of ten, coming in seven of eight, now eight
of nine, and the Sixers snap a mini three game
losing skid. We will look at the NBA standings and

(22:17):
finish up the box score with the team shooting totals
and any other players stat lines that we didn't get
to during the highlights. When we come back, It's the
Sixers Post game Show presented by Parks Casino. After a
five point win in Dallas, you were.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Listening to the Sixers Radio Network presented by Jackpot City Casino.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
The Final Score, Final Score in Dallas, The Sixers one
thirty the Mavericks one twenty five. Welcome back to the
seventy six Ers postgame show presented by Parks Casino on
this Sunday afternoon into early Sunday evening. It's a back
to back situation for the Sixers to begin a six

(22:57):
game road trip that will take them to Houston tomorrow night.
Matt Murphy with you. Nineteen players out between Dallas and
Philadelphia today, Kyrie irving the torn acl about two weeks ago.
We'll have a look at the standings towards the end
here as we begin to wind down, but we'll also
touch on the stats. The game high leaders are are

(23:22):
stat of the game, and then we will get you tomorrow.
We'll talk to you tomorrow, but before that. The leading
scorer in the game was PJ. Washington with twenty nine points.
The leading Sixers scorer was Quinton Grimes with twenty eight points.
Washington led all rebounders with twelve to go with the

(23:42):
twenty nine. On the sixer side, the leading rebounder was
Ricky Council, the fourth with ten to go with his
thirteen points. As a starter. Jared Butler and Spencer didwitty
for the Sixers, and Mavericks respectively had seven assists a
piece to lead all sharers for Dinwitty that was off

(24:03):
the bench with eighteen points, like Max Christy who had
eighteen off their bench for three pointers for Christy four
to three pointers for Naji Marshall or no for free
throws for Naji Marshall in their starting lineup twenty one points.
He was one for seven from three PJ Washington didn't
make any threes on the twenty nine point day. Klay
Thompson had twenty one. Brandon Williams has been their starting

(24:25):
point guard the last two games. He had eleven points
but only two assists in thirty two minutes. Kessler Edwards
had five as their other starter, two points for Dwight
Powell off the bench for the Sixers. Four of the
five starters in double figures, so joining Grimes and Council

(24:46):
was yabou Sele with fourteen, just to Edwards with ten
points in twenty one minutes as a starter, and then
it was an eight point day for Jared Butler with
the seven assists. The bench was huge fifty plus points
fifty seven nineteen a career high for Jalen Hoods Chaffino,
fourteen for Jeff Dalton Junior in only twenty minutes backing

(25:07):
up Butler, thirteen for o'she Brissette in twenty five minutes,
six for Alex Reese, matching his season high, and five
for Chuma okk who the Sixers signed again a couple
hours before the one pm Eastern tip off. Our stat
of the game is one hundred, one hundred and thirty

(25:28):
points for the Sixers, being their third highest scoring total
of the season. Denver and Cleveland home games against the
Nuggets and Cavs home games for the Sixers at the
end of January they scored one hundred and thirty four
and one hundred and thirty two, so one hundred and
thirty today in a one to thirty one to twenty
five road win over Dallas. Honorable mention stat of the

(25:49):
game thirteen steals, the ninth time this season the Sixers
had have had thirteen steals or more. The most they've
had in a game is fifteen. That was on December
twenty eighth in Utah, so it only resulted in sixteen
points off turnovers, but they did force fifteen. They've been
You're the top of the league in second place in
opponent turnovers per game for most of this season. They

(26:15):
shot fifty two percent. The Sixers did thirty nine percent
from three. Nick Nurse said three pointers one of the
big reasons for the win, if not the biggest, fourteen
of thirty six compared to ten made threes for Dallas,
so four more. They missed four free throws Philadelphia twenty
of twenty four, so it was a fifty two to
thirty nine eighty three game. Percentage wise, Dallas shot fifty

(26:38):
three percent one percent better than the Sixers from the field,
but only twenty nine percent from three. It was ten
threes on thirty four tries, and they missed seven free
throws and lost by five. They were twenty three of
thirty two misses for both for all three of Najie Marshall, PJ. Washington,

(27:02):
and Max Christi three players with two missed free throws
a piece, So that's a seventy seven percent effort from
Dallas at the line. They did out rebound Philadelphia forty
five thirty nine, but the Sixers win one thirty one
twenty five. They do move past Brooklyn in the Eastern

(27:24):
Conference standings. They have one more win than the Nets
and one fewer loss. They are twenty three and forty four.
The Nets are twenty two, and that would make the
Nets twenty two and forty five. Toronto is four games
back of Chicago. Chicago had a winning streak before a
loss at twenty eight and thirty nine. They're tenth in

(27:45):
the play in tenth in the East, last in the
play in tournament seven through ten. Make it Toronto is
in between the Sixers and the Bulls at twenty four
and forty three. This loss for the tenth place Mavericks
in the West does bring the Phoenix Suns one game
within that last play in spot out West. As mentioned

(28:09):
with Tom, the NBA Slate today featured the first place Cavaliers,
who had a sixteen game winning streak, the longest in
the NBA. They had a double digit lead at home
against the Magic, looking for a seventeenth straight win, but
the Magic came back in one one oh eight, one
to oh three to snap that franchise record winning streak
for the Cleveland Cavaliers. But this has been the seventy

(28:31):
six Ers postgame show presented by Parks Casino. The final
score Philadelphia one thirty Dallas one twenty five. Thanks to
our producers Brendan Gunn and Sean Rodman, and of course,
Tom McGuinness on the call. The next Sixers game is tomorrow,
an eight pm Eastern road start at the Houston Rockets.
Our coverage here on the Sixers Radio Network presented by

(28:53):
Jackpot City Casino, will begin at seven fifty pm Eastern.
Until then, I'm Matt Murphy saying thanks so much for listening,

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
