Speaker 1 (00:01):
These are the podcasts that no one looks forward to doing.
And this is the kind of news that nobody likes
to read about, talk about, or discuss. But Minnesota Vikings
rookie quarterback cornerback Kyrie Jackson passed away this morning or

(00:21):
last night, I think it was early this morning at
three fourteen am, after being involved in a car crash
after being hit by someone changing lanes at a high
speed in Print, Georgia's County. I actually lived there for
almost two years. And it appears that alcohol seems to

(00:45):
be a part of this crash. Charges are pending and
if a crash happens at three fourteen am in the morning,
there's likelihood that alcohol was involved, saying that the driver
of Jackson's vehicle had alcohol involved because they didn't cause

(01:07):
the crash, but someone else driving at a high rate
of speed crashes into their car and another car while
changing lanes and causes three people to pass away. Kyrie
Jackson and two former college football players passed away in

(01:30):
this crash, a man named Hazel who was twenty three,
Lighton who was twenty four. Both guys what Hazel played
at Maryland and Charlotte and Lightton played at Florida State
and Penn State, and lots of reaction by Minnesota Vikings people,

(01:55):
including the organization and the head coach to read statements
on But just from the ESPN article, and I love
how it talks about his journey to the NFL because
it put the spotlight on who the guy was, says Jackson.
Became an instant favorite among Vikings fans after he described

(02:15):
his long journey from high school to the NFL draft.
Speaking to Minnesota reporters after the draft, he said he
was a non qualifier. After graduating from Weiss High School
in Maryland in twenty seventeen, he spent time at three
different junior colleges while taking two seasons away from the game,

(02:36):
before landing at Alabama in twenty twenty one. During that
interm he said he worked in the Delhi at a
Harris Teeter grocery store and at one point won an
award for employee of the Month. I told my mom
and at one point in time, I guess I'm about
to be working at a grocery store. He said. Later

(02:57):
he gave serious thought to joining the NBA two League
when I ended up leaving my first year junior college
he said, I was home for about six months, but
I told my friends that I was still in high school.
I stayed at my house for six straight months and
nobody knew. It was kind of eating away at me.
And then I finally just eventually told my friends the

(03:18):
moment really told me, like, man, if I was embarrassed
at even tell them, I might want to get out
and try to do it again instead of sitting here
and sulking. Of his journey to powerfy football and eventually
the NFL. Jackson said he had no regrets. I wouldn't
change it for the world, he said. I feel like
it taught me a lot of perseverance. It helped me

(03:39):
turn me into the man that I am today. I
feel like I don't take no shortcuts. I take everything
for what it is and don't really question too many things.
I feel like that mentality came from JUCO and being
at the bottom and seeing what it's like to not
have anything to having everything going to some of the
top programs. A devastating story to read about from a

(04:04):
man that seemed like he was peeking throughout his life. Basically,
the story reads that he didn't have good enough grades
to go to a bigger college, went to a chewco persevered.
And what I love about the story it said he
didn't sulk. I love that at the end his quote,

(04:25):
I might want to get out and try to do
it again instead of sitting here and sulking. All of
us have a tendency to sulk in our misery, feel
bad for ourselves for a moment. But the question is this,
how long do you sulk for? Because this guy could
have easily played a victim card and said, you know what,

(04:48):
the world is out to get me. It wasn't my fault,
it's the world's fault. A coach didn't give me an opportunity.
This guy didn't like me, he didn't recruit me. But no,
he says, I didn't sit here in so so he
goes from a juco to Alabama, then he went to
Oregon and then was drafted as a fourth round rookie

(05:09):
in the NFL Draft just a few months ago. So
it's really a heartbreaking story to read because this guy
works so hard to get to where he was, And
some statements by the Minnesota Vikings organization says from Kevin O'Connell,

(05:31):
I am absolutely crushed by this news. Kyrie brought a
contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence
and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In
our short time together, it was evident Kyrie was going
to develop into a tremendous professional football player. But what

(05:52):
was also more impressive was as a desire to become
the best person he could be for his family and
those around him. I am at a loss for words.
My heart goes out to Kyrie's family, friends, teammates, and coaches.
You know, a part of the devastation is that you

(06:12):
look at the Minnesota Vikings roster and he has a
fourth round pick, which means he's got a chance. I
mean there's undrafted players that play. And you look at
the cornerbacks on the Minnesota Vikings roster. Andrew Booth junior
is probably gonna get cut. Mackay Blackman didn't have a

(06:35):
sensational year last year. Evans a can leave. Evans didn't
play well last year. They brought in Shaq Griffin because
they needed a depth or at least a reliable cornerback,
so there was room if Kyrie Jackson played well to

(06:57):
get playing time this season. In fact, I would have
been that at some point he would have been at
least given a shot at being a starting cornerback on
the Minnesota Vikings roster this season because of the talent
that he showcased in college, his skill set, plus the

(07:20):
lack of talent that's already on the Minnesota Vikings roster.
So this just sucks. It sucks for Kyrie Jackson's family.
Kyrie Jackson, Hopefully he was a believer. I mean, that's
my prayer. I mean. The Minnesota Vikings made a statement

(07:44):
two says we are devastated by the news of Kyrie
Jackson's death following an overnight car accident. Our thoughts are
with Kyrie's family, friends, teammates, and coaches, as well as
the victims of this tragic accident. Soh, the Minnesota vi
can send over their thoughts, but what we do on
the Minnesota Viking on the Minnesota tim podcast is send

(08:07):
over our prayers, because what do thoughts do? You know, prayers.
People like to attack prayers and say, oh, they don't
do anything. Oh what did prayers do for this school
that was involved in a shooting? Oh more prayers, Oh,
prayers don't do anything. Well, if you're a believer in

(08:32):
Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and you believe that
that is the one and only truth. Which if you're
listening to this or watching this and you don't know that,
I would highly encourage you to open a Bible. And
if that's not enough, go Google or do a little

(08:53):
research and look at just how reliable and trustworthy the
Bible is. Because we all have doubts, we all have
fears that what we're believing is it true or is
it not true? Well, there is more evidence to prove
that the Bible is true than any other historic book

(09:17):
out there, including books by William Shakespeare, because you got
to look at the copies. You know, the original William
Shakespeare isn't there the original story of it. It was
a copy, just like the Bible. Yet there are hundreds,

(09:42):
if not thousands of copies of the Bible that we
can look at and trust. So we send our prayers
to Kyrie Jackson's family. And I'm going to just take
a moment to pray right now. I prayed earlier, but

(10:02):
this is a moment that's sad and heartbreaking and devastating
and all of those words that you can throw together.
So this Minnesota. Tan podcast doesn't shy away from calling
Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and communicating to him
at all times. So we're just gonna pray right now.

(10:25):
Dear Heavenly Father, we take a moment and we pray
for just this situation. Lord, and Romans, you talk about
how you always work for the good of those who
love you, and we just pray, Lord that Kyrie Jackson
loved you, because there are two places that are eternal

(10:52):
after this short period of life that we all live.
That's Heaven, that's Hell. So that we pray that Kyrie
Jackson knew you and loved you, and that the Holy
Spirit was inside of him, and the other is the
two that passed away. Because if that is true, if
he didn't know you, he is experiencing the greatest glory

(11:18):
he's ever had. And Lord, when you met him at
the gates, he said, well done, good and faithful servant,
even though you took him away at a young time,
even though his time came calling at a short twenty
four years old. Lord, we all die at some point,

(11:41):
whether you're twenty four or eighty. And Lord, we just
pray that the people that caused the accident, that this
would be a moment where if they don't know you,
or if they do know you, that they would cling
to you, and that they would receive forgiveness, that they
wouldn't live in shame because of what they did. And Lord,

(12:05):
as they received these charges if they were drinking and driving,
if that's true, that you know when they are thrown
in prison for killing three people, that they would be
a light in those prison cells, and that if they

(12:26):
don't know you, that they would come to know you.
And Lord, sometimes it takes rock bottom two know you.
And I pray that if they do not know you,
that this would be rock bottom for them to get
to know you or lift these three men up to you.
And we pray for their families, their moms and dads
and siblings, children, if they have any children, and they

(12:50):
would just pray that you would be a comfort for them,
that they would seek you out, and that they'd have
a peace that transcends all understanding these things in her
name Jesus Amen Kyrie Jackson nineteen ninety nine to twenty
twenty four a short lived life, but based on what

(13:14):
we read, a life that impacted a lot of people.
