We took a trip down memory lane with one of Matt’s all-time favorite teammates, DeAndre Jordan. This episode is packed with laughs, stories you have never heard, and a look at one of the league’s most respected veterans. From Matt and DJ’s wild trip to Amsterdam that made the tabloids to reliving his iconic poster dunk on Brandon Knight, this one is full of classic moments. We also talked about what it was like playing alongside Jokic, LeBron, KD, Luka, and the legendary Lob City Clippers. Through it all, one thing is clear: DeAndre Jordan is still in the NBA for a reason. Solid dude, elite teammate, and one of the realest conversations you will hear.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Yeah, it's like my little This is like my little
big Hobie. It's like my little brother. It's a little
big b used to call me pops Man. Welcome to
the show, DeAndre Jordan. First of all, Bro, how's it
feel to have a highway patrol mustache?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
It was worse.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
It was worse.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
It was worse because he didn't have this at Persot.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Yeah, every summer I do like that, just random sexy stash,
you know some Sometimes I like a cop. Sometimes I
look like seventies porn stars. I'm kind of embracing it.
And when every time I come home, I WoT be like, Okay,
this is what we're doing. You just go somewhere when
I come back, and she'd be like, oh shit, you

(00:53):
know so. And then now my kids are old enough
to know it. And then Jayden, you know Jayden, he's nine,
he'd be like, why as you do that like that?

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Every time?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I'll just try to but you cut your hair off?

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I did that raised I didn't see.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
This hair lengths. It's like clipper days.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah, and I was like, I had a haircut like
over ten years. You know that's crazy. So yeah, I forget. Yeah,
but I mean this is a nice little restart for me.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, your brother still got all my brothers they all
did it.

Speaker 5 (01:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, that's the one fourth ship.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah we got it.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yes, I'm just you know, I need a new little restart.
I've been thinking about it all year, and then once
the summer came, I was like, this is it, let's go.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
We know you kind of got the same grade.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Though almost and I just like like a like a dad,
but just for me water.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Gliving. I just think we've been all around the world.
We done a lot of fun stuff together. Like DJ
is like one of my most favorite people.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
This is my dog for real.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
This my got. We a lot of stuff that we
could talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
A lot of.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
We don't want to get to show canceled. Uh you
know season. You know, we spent a lot of time together, man,
especially when I came to La. Yeah, teammates were living
here and we went through a lot of ups and down.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
This is who I live with when I when I
I didn't want to say that, I decided. So when
I decided to divorce the twins. Mom, DJ opened up
a room for me. Bro I was I was hopeless,
and I said, DJ, you got a new roommate.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Bro, I was like, I'm singing, I ain't got it going. Yeah,
let's let's do it.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
So. Yeah, he had he had an unk living with him.
It was good times too.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
I had a lot of money carpooling.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, this is my this is my roommate. He let
me be roommates. Man, I appreciate it. Man seventeen years,
three time All NBA All Star, two time Defensive Team
should have been Defensive Player of the Year. They gave
it to Marcosol, which was bullshit. Mark you my guy.
But DJ should have won it. Twenty twenty three champ,
NBA all time leading field goal percentage, gold Medalist. Welcome

(03:04):
to the show, bro DeAndre Jordan appreciate you. Thanks for
having me long overdue. This is the first time and
we had this conversation last time I seen you. This
is the first time you're not in training camp since
what middle maybe junior high.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Yeah, I mean it's it's definitely weird, and this is
a new, uncharted territory for me. But I mean I
feel like, you know, I'm where I'm supposed to be.
All to you, I'm thirty seven, okay, but I feel
like I'm where I'm supposed to be. You know, I
can't really what ifs and all this. I think that
the universe put me in a situation to be right
here with my family, enjoying them. We got a three
month old, had a beautiful little baby, just had a baby. Yeah,

(03:42):
so I'm able to spend more time with them. It's
less practice, is less training camp. I'm still working out
every day, but yeah, it's definitely new. And I've now
I've asked, like damn, I wish I had more time
with the boys, and yeah, you know, date nights and
stuff like that. Now I'm getting it and I can't
do anything but be grateful for it.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
I asked. We went golfing was about a month ago now,
and I asked him. I looked him in his eyes, like, bro,
you at peace if this if you played your last season?

Speaker 3 (04:06):
And you told me, yeah, yeah, I'm at peace with it.
Like I mean, you know, growing up in inner city Houston,
single mom, three three younger brothers, you know this is
a dream. I'm all saying, like, uh, to be drafting
the NBA play seventeen years, you know, networking me so
many great people. It's taken me to places I couldn't
have imagined, you know, met great people, great people who

(04:29):
have saved my career, kept me in the league for
a very long time, you know, and I ended up
doing so many great things individually, won a championship, go medal,
things like that. So I've exceeded every expectation that I
have for myself as a player.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Now I'm just at the point where I'm like, I
want to play twenty years.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah, I feel to be in that you know, small
collective on that.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
You know. So for the reck you all read, I know,
this motherfucker's up every more, like at four o'clock because
I'm up like a six with the kids, and every
first story I see it's like, damn, he's just like
four thirteen, Like this motherfucker's still don't.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, I gotta I gotta get it in before the
kids go to school. So I'll go in the morning,
lift cardio, come back and in be a you know,
like a non paid, non tipped uber driver into kids
and school and ship and then I'll come and do basketball,
come back, pick them up it's which is which is great?
It's cool, like, but I'm still in that grime. Mo,
it's still a competition. I still love it. But once

(05:23):
I'm done with it, you know, I may be involved
in some sort of capacity, but like I'm at peace
with it.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, when it's that, Well, I want to talk about
fatherhood with you because you were so instrumental around the
Twins when I was, you know, kind of your age,
and now thirty seven is when I realized, like, yeah,
I still love this game, but I want to spend
more time with my kids. And you just mentioned that,
like what is fatherhood? I see you light up when
when when you talk about your kids. You have three
boys now or you have a girl, a girl as

(05:49):
a younger girl. Right, So what is what is fatherhood.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Like for you?

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Well?

Speaker 3 (05:54):
You know when I uh, when I would see like
you bring the twins in Cee, he would bring little
Chris J.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Crawford, it's gonna be dope with our boys because all
of them now are like high school players. So if
it's able, we got shipped from them for like three
or four years old, wrestling in the family room, wrestling
DJ's bigg ass.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
It was, Yeah, I was a kid with them, you know,
so I was like, but uh, I'm like, damn, man,
it's cool y'all bring y'all kids in here, and mad
be like, yeah, we'll just go get somebody like uh,
you know. So now just being able to learn parenting
from you guys and see how much you guys care
for your kids, I was like, damn, like, that's that's

(06:32):
what I started. Like when you bring the boys up
on the podium, I'm like, damn, like one day I
might be doing that.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Yeah, And I'm glad I waited. I need this a
lot to like, you know, you're a little bit.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
But now seeing my my my kids grow, it's it's
amazing man.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
And I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's great.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
It's amazing. All right. You and I took a trip
to Amsterdam.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Damn I was on that trip. It's legal.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
It's legal. Now we will have mentioned no one else
because no one else you know, we want we want
to have it. But you and I were there and
we had a couple of other people with us, and
right when we got there, it was crazy. We land
in Amsterdam, we were pulling past them. What was the
main one? It was right on the corner the greenhouse,
like the thing. It was a greenhouse, and our hotel
was right next to us. Our hotel is right next

(07:21):
to it, and we we were walking and we look
in and we see Big Baby in there. No clue,
no it was he. He was He was on our
team that time, right, yeah, yeah, so no clue he
was going to be there, no clue we were going
to be there.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Him.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
So we start busting up. So our girls take our
ship to the room. We go over here and start smoking.
And then we're smoking and we hear someone bumping whiz
like loud as a motherfucker.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
That was That was after the guy passed out.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah, the dude passed out. He took him outside, lifting
him upside down and poured water like from here and
like it was like it all had like baby dude
passes out, starts tripping. They take him outside, flipping them
upside down, pour water on them, and then we hear
someone banging whiz. I'm like, yo, what the fuck? Who's it?
Got so loud that we went out there and looked,
and coming down the canal, it was Wiz bumping his

(08:12):
new CD that just dropped, and the nigga happened to
be staying in our hotel. All this ship is like
the first hour we're in Amsterdam. It was insane. Also,
this is the same trip that someone took a picture
you guys too, right, Yeah, let's talk, Come on, you're
it's tell your story. DJ got DJ do this because

(08:35):
we've got so much stuff together, like bad ship, but
just didn't like me and DJ see each other take
it to the limit, you know. So when he's asking, he's.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Like, can I see the do you guys have the question?

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Yet? He kind of want to, Well, never, we don't
want to fuck you up question.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
God, we're kind of telling.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
So someone took a snapshot of and they got a
picture of you and big baby when we were on
the clippers, And what was that? I forgot because I
remember I was right there with you.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
I didn't forget when I landed back, I had. You know,
when your when you have phone off, you don't really
get you don't get calls. When I land I see voicemail, voicemail, voicemail,
I'm like, damn, like I'm popular.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
And then uh then I get like you saw TMZ
you saw me to take off?

Speaker 3 (09:21):
I'm like, fuck all right?

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Then I get then the immediately I get a call
from Doc.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
God damn. DJ wasn't the fuck you couldn't sit inside.
I was like, he said, then they have tables inside. Goddamn,
And I was like, uh, well yeah, but it was
just such a nice day outside. It was such a
nice day outside. And then I had to go through

(09:48):
the whole ordeal and then it ended up getting forgotten about.
But I'm glad because I was, like, was on vacation
and it just it got blown out of proportions. I'm like, damn,
now I get to relax focus on the season. And
then when I got back, we had to relive the
whole Is that it is that the picture Jesus.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Put it on the Let me see. I don't remember this, Yeah,
I remember. I got the same good right as I said,
this is the last time we see. Oh he's pearling.
He's in the middle of the pearl.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
DJ's rolling up. But the part is me and another.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Superstar they got They got him looking at it after
hit it. They got this look looking at it.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
I was like, you know, it's good. He was rolling
like that.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Like but you know it was a cigarette man.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
But you know what was crazy was the fact that
they didn't get me and who was who was? Who
was another superstar? But they just happened to get DJ
And I'm like, baby, I'm like, what happened to the
wide angle?

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Right there, right at the bottom is at the bottom?
Is at the bottom that the white hang at the bottom.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Oh yeah, looking yeah the other person.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Yeah, yeah, it's perfect.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, you know it was guess who that is?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah it was.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
It was a fun little time. But yeah, we don't know.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
About Yeah, that's a good mystery. Yeah, man, we had ye,
it was a vacation, bro. That was a great trip.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Vacation. We had a good time.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
We had we were on vacation.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yes, no rules.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Yeah, it was good.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
So that was one part. But so we go back
to the hotel. Then I ended up taking Wizards number
down and he invited us to his room. And this
is when dabs first came out, right, it's when dabs
first came out. And we're in the same day in
Amsterdam smoking dabs with Whiz when they first became cool. Me,

(11:47):
I took one, him and a few other people took
way too many. But we were similar to ship with Snoop.
The people came in the room and brought fans, right,
they brought fast that's I forgot to talk about this
second time my life. First time was snoop and they
came in under the windows and brought fans and rich
this they're kicking us out. I thought we were done.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
It's a different like room service knock and it's like
a I'm like, it's up with it. I'm like, let
me look, let me look at other hotels, just to see,
like what's around, because you can smoke anywhere.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
They don't like when you smoke in the hotels, but
they come in and they see whiz and it's just
like the whole the whole tone chains. They brought us
fans back and sat high of us and it kind
of changed. But we we smoked until like four in
the morning, right, Like, yeah, I would say that was

(12:44):
a trip.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Man.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Hey we took bike.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Oh another part of this trip the twins mamas died
on the bike. Mushroom. Who were we on? I was
on mushrooms. I think she might have been on them too.
But we're riding bikes through Damn.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Which is a great thing to do, amazing.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Especially on one. But we're riding down this hill and
we had all passed. Who was that at the Kaboos
It was either you almost I was in front. I
think she was trying to catch me. Long story short,
she almost gets ran over by the trains that are
on I.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Thought, I tell you, like Jack, it was like a movie.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
She was like, you know, we all playing around like
you know, she the train is coming this way. This
is a train that is on fucking track. It's not stopping.
She We're coming down hill like flying BMX type ship.
The train is coming this way. Glory is like here
we go.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
We're like, ge stop she bro It was so she
goes this way and you just see like and I'm like,
it's over. They didn't know until the train passed or
she got hit that when the train passed her up,
we all like this could be the end of the vacation,
you know whatever, whatever I was feeling, it's gone. Now.

(13:59):
Fucked her high.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
When the train passed, she got the coolest fucking polls
on the bike like this.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
It was crazy.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
It was best pose like.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
And that's enough about Amsterdam.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
But he didn't some ship.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Oh wait, hold on, let's let's talk about the other trip.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Though.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
We can got to tell, right, so let's uh, where
were we Croatia. We took a boat over the creasure,
which was dope. But we're at the skybar and this
is this is maybe not the same year, but we're
at the skybar and Blake is with us this time,
and some girl just had this is when Blake is
on every commercial everything. Some girl just like maybe comes

(14:44):
up to maybe three or four times, right, And she
was cool, but she was just letting Blake know she
was a real fan. And then Blake's like, you know,
at the kind of at the time we were about
to go change your ready for dinners, Like, she invited
us on a boat.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Should we do it?

Speaker 1 (14:55):
We had a whole discussion at dinner. Should we go
on this boat? Long story short, We went on this
fucking boat and her dad was the lawyer for the
former NETS owner.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
What was it, Doro Ca. This was biggest boat, looked
like a hotel.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Oh, it was the biggest bro It had a helicopter,
had a boat underneath it. It was one of them big
boys and we kicked it with them all. It was
the most craziest random ship ever, but the biggest yacht
we've ever seen ever.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
And I was like damn. I was like, do this
more often?

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Right, it was a big By the time we got
to the top deck, I was like, we took the elevator,
escalator and once you got out there, I was like,
oh ship and I will never forget.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
His y'all were jumping off and I was like, this
too high. I'm not doing that. Jumped off.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
It was just too high.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
A right, I'll jump off, but I'm I'm the luncheon
level and jump off there. But they was I was like, no,
not doing it. I'm not I've had it. I haven't
had enough drinks. I don't think I ever have enough
drink this. Yeah, but that was That was a fun.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
That was dope. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Anyway, let's get to the interview. Sorry, y'all was just
ribbing this a little bit. Learning job. I'm wondering what
you're writing every every morning on social media learning Japanese,
Like you're entrenched in that culture. What was your fascination?
Why'd you want to start learning?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I think we would do those trips overseas, like abroad.
Before the season started. We went to China a couple
of times, so I got into meditation while we were
out there.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
And then I went back to school during COVID.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
I didn't know that yeaheah graduated. No, no, yeah, it's
hard to take a full course load during the season.
But uh soon I got like ten classes left there,
so and then I'll say I'm smart.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Uh No.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
I got into zen Buddhism and then uh with that
learning about Japanese culture. The culture is great, architecture, fashion, food,
all that. And then they offered the language course at
the school and I was like, well, Dann, this is
kind of I kind of wanted to get into it.
And I took it all last year and I'm keeping
it up right now, which is which is good.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
But can you speak it?

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Yeah, you understand it more so, Yeah, like if it's
if it's fast with my Japanese friends, I got to
pick certain words out and I can like, that's the sentence.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
But say something about that.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
I was just about to say.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
I would say marks nigga. I can say uh ko
supposed to need and that means well, and that means
like today I'm talking about sports with my friends.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
That's impressive, bro, that is very impressive.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
It's a guy on Instagram that lives out there and
he's walking around having full conversations, and the people are made.
They be like, but I think he's speaking Mandarin. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Mander.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yeah, you gotta answer this, ahead, you gotta answer this.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
It's Corey, Miss Kim. God damn it, Kim. We're doing
a show right now, Kim.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
That's my mom.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
How are you? How are you, miss Kim? It's nice
to see you. Oh we yeah, I mean, I'm your
son has finally decided to give us some of his time.
I've been asking him since since he was nineteen, but
he finally decided to come on my show. And then
now mom calls and we have to start, and I'm playing,

(18:11):
how are you Kim?

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Mama? Ooh, that's that age. He's here, your cousin over there.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
And then Stephen Jesse Jackson, Hey, how you doing, cousin?
Come onment I listen, listen. You can come on all
the smoke only if Fred comes and cooks crab legs
on the set. Yes, please, The only way Fred said,

(18:39):
let's do it. Hey, this motherfucker make he will. For
like ten years, I've been asking Fred. Fred won't tell
me the recipe. It's the best crab legs I've ever had.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
I got to try.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Come on, Fred, quit playing. Well, I know I've been
around with mis came, I love you, good your son.
This film is not a cheat, said the filmmate.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Cheat when you finished? Okay, all right, I love you.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
Y'all.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
Sorry, she would have been pissive. Answered, you ain't tell
me you was going.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Matt, that's my dog.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Three years in a row. You've been actually, DeAndre Jordonoviic. Yeah,
being the teammate the joke. Yeah, yeah, give us some
keys of being around this guy. I mean, men and
Matt talk about him so much, and just to be
able to see everything he's been doing in the game
of basketball. Not athletic, but just his i Q and
everything he brings to the game. But Brent, being around him,

(19:41):
just give us something.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
I want to hear that side.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
But then I want to hear off the court. Yeah
that too.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
That's like crazy drink. What kind of person. I don't
care the person is he, but go ahead.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
With is uh. He's a First of all, he's a
great person. He's a great teammate.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
All that ship about him not caring about the game
or him not.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
That's that's that great. You can't be that great and
not he works extremely hard. He's a great family person
like he obviously you know, he got his brothers around
who are well him.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
On the first of all.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Called one Zane Keith and that ship with the Aith
from Street.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Fighting, Bro.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
He is the mountain.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, Straighten and the money they're they're great guys, man,
But Nicola is awesome. He It was the easiest hardest
job in the world backing him up because I'm damn,
I want to play, but I'm also like, who's coming
in the game, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
So it's just that kind of balance.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
But he watching him play, he's got one of the
highest IQ's as a basketball player I've ever been around.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
He's a super team first, right play kind of player.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Like some guys like, I'm a superstar, I'm gonna shoot
this every time, which in the fourth quarter, a brother,
we need you to shoot, but he like, oh they
double me, I'm passed. Like he making the right play
every time. And it's just he's so selfless man. And
you look up and he's still got thirty eight seventeen
and fifteen, you know, but dude got thirty eight points.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
We still got seventeen A sists. That's that's crazy to
think about.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
But he he's one of the best players I've obviously
I've ever played with, and we want a championship together
and all of that. So it's been it's been amazing
to see uh him continue to do the things that
he's doing on the floor and you know, can jump
over a water bottle, you know what I'm saying, which
is like, but we've seen a lot of players like
that that aren't extremely athletic, but they know how to

(21:28):
use their body, like Zach Randolph.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
Guys like that can do what they need to do
and be successful.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
So what kind of person is he? All like, crack jokes,
talk shit? Is he quiet? Was he like off the court.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
When he want to be quiet, he act like he
don't speak English, I don't understand, which is great.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
But he definitely cracked jokes, he'd like rap songs. He
listen to country music.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Now he I mean, he's he's a great teammate man,
Like he wants to do the team dinner, the team bonding,
you know, play cards like high Card for one, hunting
when we get on the plane, Like he's, yeah, he's
that guy, like and you know, he's just he cared
about the game. He care about it to his teammates,
and he's one of the most low maintenance. No, he

(22:07):
is the most low maintening superstar I've been around. He
don't really care about He's I don't care where you
stay or what we do whatever, as long as we
bust the ass and then get up out of there.
Like he's just that's this type of person he is.
And you know, we enjoy nice bottles of one together.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
I can imagine, Yeah, you'r time with him.

Speaker 5 (22:22):
Twenty seven points, twelve rebounds, almost ten assist a game,
basically trumple double. You've seen a lot of big men
come in his league, You've played against a lot.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
What separates him.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
I think just one is IQ is off the charts,
But I think he lets the game come to him
and you can't speed him up, you know. And I
think that's like a big advantage to a player like him,
who's like, Okay, well I'm not the fastest, I don't
jump the highest, but I'm strong, I got angles, I
got touched from anywhere. I can use both hands, and

(22:55):
he can score on all three levels, so scoring the post, floater, elbow,
he can shoot the three, and if not closing out.
He's driving value, and like people don't give him enough credit. Defensively,
I feel like like he's not blocking shots, he always
but he's there contesting shots. He got quick hands, he's
getting strips and steals. He's kicking the ball a thousand

(23:15):
times a game on those pocket passes, so he he
just knows the game, man.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
And that's what separates my feel.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
Like being on the Clippers and other teams where you
should have won a championship, where y'all felt y'all have
championship teams to win one in twenty twenty three with
Dever with the Big Fellow, how that felt.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
I think, first of all, it felt great, But I
think when people asked that, like oh, what do you
think about d D and you guys are both win championship,
I didn't think about the positive shit. I didn't think
about like, oh, this is great, this is awesome. I
think the part that made me emotional was thinking about
all the times I didn't win it, you know, thinking
about the early exits and like damn, we were hurt

(23:54):
on this team, or we missed this shot and we
did this. So I thought about all the times I
didn't get to this point, and that's what made me
appreciate winning the championship even more. And you know, I
appreciate the times that I was on teams where we
didn't win because I learned a lot from that, and
I you know, it's it's good to be able to
get to that pinnacle. And it took me fifteen years

(24:15):
to get there, but should I got there and it
was It's something I definitely appreciate.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yeah, when you came in the league, it was a
totally different league.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
What has the game lost from when you came into
two thousands to now that you can say.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Oh, I mean playing with two bigs for sure, you
know only a certain you know a small amount of
teams to do it now and can do it well, Ho,
Houston does it. I feel like Cleveland does it and
then some teams will do it too.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Yeah, when they played chead and and Hartenstein. But like
it's that, it doesn't There was a lot more cross
cross four, cross.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Five, turn five, loppy punch, yeah, ship like that, like.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Drops, Yeah, it was that was.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
It was inside out the defensive crazy the ball. Yeah,
you had to get the ball down for anything unless
you were a super duper duper Duper Star.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
So it was just, you know, seeing a game developed
like that. I mean, it's obviously guys are more a
lot more skilled, and I wouldn't even say more skilled.
We just take a lot more threes now and it's
a lot more guard or in it. But I appreciate
those times because it definitely made me tougher as a player, Like, Damn,
I gotta change the Marcus Cousins over a cross screen
by sitting by a four man and were not switching.

(25:24):
Or I got Zach setting a screen on me for
marcusol I got to get through this ship.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
You know, It's just.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
That part of it made me appreciate, you know, the
defensive part of the game.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
Early in my career.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
A lot of people don't understand. If you don't go
out that screen right, you're getting payed out of the basket.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
He's done. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. A lot
of peop don't understand.

Speaker 5 (25:42):
Hard that was you got one of the best teammate
rosters of all time.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Yeah, I mean of all time.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
Luca derk Embiid Brown who you didn't play with joking
Joker KD, Kyrie, Hard and Chris Paul Blake.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
God damn Matt, Like you play with everybody, bro for
three weeks.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
You were on that team for atree weeks.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Broke his hand.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
They had to bring another point guard in. But talk
about your time in the league and playing with so
many great players.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Man, I play with so many great players. Man coming up.
Like when I first came into the league, I had
I was nineteen. I had super duper vets like I
had Baron Davis, Marcus Camby, Daviskatino Moble, Ricky Davis, Tim Thomas,
Zach rand Up. I have vets like was there, Yeah, yeah,
I have I have real you burned out.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
I had real vets.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
That's why I tell like a lot of the young
guys now like bro, like I wish I came in
with y'all like this is sweet.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Like I had vets like you.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Can't get on the bus until you help with the bags,
you can't eat, tell everybody else heat like I had
real vets.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Rules and regulations, yeah, like.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Hey, go to the story. I'm like, yo, it's three
in the morning, go to the store. We need this,
blah blah blah. Like fuck I used to have to go.
I was uber before Uber, I would pick I would
pick mc up Marcus Camby. I would pick him up
from his house. Well, first I had to go to
Subway to pick up his lunch, pick him up from
his house, drive him to the arena shoot around. I

(27:11):
was getting donuts, lattes. I got a soy milk latte
with uh yeah, almond milk whatever for bed, you know,
for d Yeah, bro, I got a soy milk latte
for bed.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
He was simping to.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
Be like, damn look good, and.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
I'd be like, bro, what the fuck? Like I don't
got it like.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
That, brother, Like, oh, I ain't even have to pay
for all this, Like I had to pay for that ship.
Marcus can be.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
I would get half a dozen donuts from Chrispy Kreme
three regular, three raspberry field for his daughter, remember that ship, bro,
And I'm like, this is what I had to do.
Somebody said, Christy Kreme, I get to sweating. But but yeah, man,
it's just I had great vets that really like taught

(27:56):
me the game and like taught me about how to
appreciate this ship and work, and so I uh, seventeen
years has been great. Man.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Give us your all time, starting five with your teammates.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
God, that's tough. I mean, I play with CP along
the side. Gotta go CEP at the point, James Katie.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
There's some heat on the board still it is Broun.
Gotta be Bron, right, that's their fifth, that's your fifth.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
No, that's the fourth four.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
And I gotta go Joe Health. I'm gonna go Bron
and then.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Yo yo kitch. So who's who's the five? CP?

Speaker 4 (28:35):
Yep, James Katie, Bron And.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
So he's got Kyrie coming off the bench, Luca coming
off the bench, dirt coming off the bench. Goddamny, that
might be the best teammate line that we've ever Lord,
I'll tell you that he's stupid.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
A ship. There's some ship on there.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
That's it's some heat on that list I got.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Damn.

Speaker 4 (28:59):
I just played with but we had. I mean, I'm
obviously not on this team, but you know, like you know, yeah, but.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
Bigger what if Love City KD Carrie Nets Love City,
Love City.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
No fucking way they would have cooked. Y'all.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
We were so good. We were good, though, Jack y'all
was good.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
And I think we do just because I said to
what if, because we were together for so long.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
Yeah, okay, you know, uh, y'all had other teams in
the league room for y'all, y'all were so close so
many times and that entertainment.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Yeah, and then like a lot of times, I felt
like like we had fun on that team, like we
really cared about the game. When CP got there to
winning factor, you know, like me and Blake worked hard.
But when she got there, we was like, damn, we
gotta we gotta take it up a not you know.
So because when before CP got there, we were just
trying to make the playoffs. The way he got there,

(29:54):
I was like, oh, ship, we're trying to win the
championship now, so it just skipped the playoffs like like playoffs,
not know, we gotta win. So thinking about that was
was was definitely different. So I think that and then
the Clippers being the franchise that they had been for
so long and not you know, being incorporated with winning.
It's just kind of I think that would have been
a bigger moment if we would have won with the Clips.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Andrazy older we're gonna talk. We'll talk about the team
a little later. Go ahead, Texas boy.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
We both all grew up in Houston area the same
time as Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Who else from Houston? Of course, we know a lot
of people from Houston, but me you me, you for uh, TJ, for.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Sharotte who I'm trying to think of. Younger guy like
Daniel House, like you said, Jimmy.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
O Meca okrapher, there's a lot of bigger Yah.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
We got Daniel, you said, t J. Already we got.
We got some really good players. Man, this Texas in general,
but definitely Houston like was super, you know, instrumental in development.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
Like I worked out with John Lucas.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
We all did fundy.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
I used to hate look man, but he but he
really got it out of it. He loved you though. Yeah,
I love look Me and him got into it a
million times. I'm like, I'm not running around the track
four times backwards. That's impossible. I'm not doing it. It's
one hundred and twelve degrees out here. You all fucking
do it all so I would do it. And then
I'm like, all right, well you know this is you know,
it made me a better player, And I definitely appreciate

(31:23):
that because he one thing about Lucas.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
He gonna make you work hard.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
But like that shit works, Yes, so I definitely appreciate
all of that stuff and all those times working that
would look for sure.

Speaker 5 (31:32):
Just imagine if you had Instagram when he was in
high school, coming out of high school, all the ship.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
Nah, I'm glad. I'm glad I just had my space.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
My life because boy, like you'd have been Instagram fanous
with all the dunks and ship though.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
Yeah, definitely our week probably would have been into a
lot more trouble.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
You might have not even got to see the dusk. Yeah,
what kind of criminal he wouldn't for wild djk low
to see how you are today and how you were,
it's dope, you know what I mean, Like we met
with your early twenties, right, Yeah, so just to see
he was just young and went behind the ears and
now he's he's like the age I was when I

(32:11):
played with him, Like I was like, bro, he understand
now how your body feels at thirty five, thirty six,
thirty seven, And the type of shit we were on it.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Was, yeah, like that was a lot of fireball when
it first, like me and like Matt and now we
really kicked it a lot. And even Jack, like we
you know, Jack was a big like oh damn like
out of high school, this shit is crazy, like Jack
doing it, you know what I'm saying. So like being
able to see these guys grow and then actually be

(32:40):
teammates with him was really a cool experience for me
coming out of Texas being.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
A younger guy.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
And but yeah, I definitely learned a lot of good.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
And crazy from from my big homies.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
Man.

Speaker 5 (32:52):
Man in two thousand and eight, we're doing uh, were
planning on doing something on Fundy and John Lucas.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Did you get it? You ever played there and got
in some run?

Speaker 5 (33:00):
Yeah, I played that funny and just getting because Max here,
we mass gonna do something. But talk about your experience
and how legendary that is. That's like the u c
l A Runs and this stuff. You know, that's ours.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Talk about that funny in the summertime was great, even
like when I was in high school, I used to
go watch the program. Yeah they had the program. Then
I was like, man, I can't wait to make it
to the league so I can play in the program. Yeah,
go back, like I can't wait to make it to
the NBA so I could play in the Fundy pro am.

Speaker 4 (33:23):
Like that was.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
That was how big it was when I was want
to tell you who. You won't believe this, but who's
one of the coldest people playing that program?

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Damon Jones. Oh he used to shoot the lights out
I'm talking about.

Speaker 5 (33:35):
People don't believe it, but Damon Jones used to you
need to shoot by far than this.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
But you would.

Speaker 5 (33:40):
You wouldn't look at him now and think that not
absolutely not absolutely not.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
You're well, bro, Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
I used to watch, like they said, Damon Jones, Mouchie
Norris was playing that ship.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Yeah, yeah, and I was like, damn, this ship is
this lit?

Speaker 2 (33:52):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (33:52):
But uh, the Fundy was great, man.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
This It's such an instrumental part of Houston growing up,
going down there downtown, watching watching runs, playing in runs
in the summertime as I got older.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
So that's that's a big staple in Houston.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Two thousand and eight, you drafted to the Clippers. What's
your initial thought.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
I didn't work out for the Clippers. I had never
been to Los Angeles. I went to San Diego for
the Pengos All American camp and I was like, Damn,
I gotta go to LA. So we think about La.
You think about the movies. I'm like, oh shit, it's
about to be real out here. And I was nineteen man,
and I came out here by myself, and my brothers
were still in high school in middle school. But when

(34:33):
I first came out here, I didn't know anything about
the Clippers. But I do think that the universe put
me in that situation for the right reason, because I
got a chance to develop, you know, at that point
in the league, like it was you you know, thirty five,
thirty six year old. Everybody was starting at that age.
You know, young boys didn't play, so like, I really
got a chance to like grow at my own pace.

(34:54):
I wasn't rushed to come in and play right away
or too much pressure. So and then once I learned
the franchise, I'm like, okay, cool, like we can really
turn this around. And the following year we ended up
getting Blake. And I never forget my rookie year. We
won nineteen games because that's how old I was, and
so I'll never forget that, you know. And then we
just got better and better and better, but never reached

(35:16):
the pinnacle. But it was cool how we turned that around.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Your rookie year.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Yeah, Marcus can be super nasty, Yeah, market.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Marcus can Be, Ricky Davis, Chris, Chris Kman was nice.

Speaker 6 (35:28):
He was nice.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Chris Caman had both hands. His hygiene wasn't we probably
should have.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
Been for the money he was making, and you wondered
why he was getting all them buckets.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
Nobody wanted to.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
Go in there.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Chris came and had game, obviously bearing in his lattes.
Zbo Marcus Camby, Yeah you had. You had a nice
little group around you.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
I have some vets, man, I had some real good bets.
A lot of them guys I definitely still talked to,
were super influential in my career. And it's just like
I appreciate that because those guys had even more super vets.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
When they came up.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
So I learned a lot from them, like even like
little tricks of the trade. How to you know guard this,
how to you know, be advantageous in different parts of
the offense and defense. So a lot of my stuff
I got from them guys, especially MC advantageous.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
I get that from you later.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Okay, y'all should put that on the bottom like definition
of yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
He gonna get that for me. That's what I'm telling you.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
Okay, okay, yeah, like.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
MC would shoot around.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
I wasn't playing a lot, you know, would be like, hey, like,
what's this play coming up? And I'm like, shit, I
don't know you know? And he like, what the fuck?
How you don't know the play?

Speaker 4 (36:32):
I'm like, bro, I'm not playing like you know.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
But he's like, you need to know five plays and
one out of bounds play every time we start shooting around.
So I'll start memorizing plays and I would watch him.
He'll be like, yo, floppy twist, they goes so and
so coming off this, watch it for the back door
cut post up and then the Chicago I'm like, what
the f how.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
Do you know that?

Speaker 3 (36:49):
They ain't even ran to play at And then I
would study what he was doing during the game. I
would just watch emc he at the free throw line.
He would be watching to see what the play call was.
All right, uh, ricky wash the pin down? Watch them
curl you can gap it. I'm like, damn, this is crazy.
I used to thought he was. I thought he was
a wizard. I was like he sold and sold to somebody. No, no,

(37:13):
he never, he never told me that about I will
watch him. I got the tip outs and all that
ship from.

Speaker 7 (37:16):
Here, like yeah, yeah, yeah, he told he first first
first quarter, first five, first quarter, first five minutes, and
the third quarter is when the guys missed their most shots.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
Get all the rebounds, and don't let none of these
guards get the free It used.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
To be a big deal. People know in the league,
like the bigs didn't want the guards coming in the pay.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
The bonus money.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
That's that's how they get the money, get out of it.

Speaker 3 (37:43):
I remember one time we had film session and doctors
that we got a rebound better and Matt was like,
I got something DJ don't want us to get you
take it mad if we get there rebounds And then
Doc was like, fu, DJ, I don't get so. And
then after I was like, yeah, yeah, y'all y'a doc,
right man, let's just after me. I was an Y'ALLU
with docs that shouldn't the pain y'all get.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
Well.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
I'm thinking about say later the number one pick in
the draft comes next year. Blake with your guys connection, like,
you guys are both young, he's fresh out of Oklahoma.
What's that bond in the relation because you guys became really close.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
Yeah, yeah, Blake and I man. We we played together
for nine years, great team mess. We like you said,
we were super duper young young ThunderCats coming in the
league and super hungry and trying to outdo each other,
especially when it came to dunks and ship. So it
was it was cool, man, like being able to grow
and try to change your franchise or somebody who was
your same age, and like we got along.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
We you know, we did a lot of the same things.

Speaker 1 (38:43):
And they were seeing the butter in jail.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Yeah, we we we we kicked it a to didn't like.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
That name, but it was.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
We kicked it the tone man, and uh, you know,
I it was cool seeing us like develop into the
players that we became. And I appreciate that growth and
journey because when we first came in, we was like, man,
we was just trying to just figure it out, you know,
and then we grew and both grew into you know,
obviously Blake is a perennial he Hella All Stars and uh,

(39:11):
you know, he was finished top three one year in
MVP voting and so, uh, seeing both of our careers
developed the way that they did, it was it was
really cool to see that, especially when a guy you
came in around a little same time with that.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Three weeks I was there, Bro, I never thought that this.

Speaker 5 (39:25):
When you walk in the locker room, that is a
walking I mean that is a basketball locker room. But
it's really a comedy show because people don't is the
person that you least expect in there.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
That's the funniest. That ship was class guy and enjoyed
in three.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
The locker room was what Jamal was on the team,
and so who was that? Jamal was gone already.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
Was gone, CP, Matt, CP Blake was Ronnie to Off there.

Speaker 5 (39:56):
Collison Saren Collinson was there, Yeah there.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
Willie Green, Willy Green was there, Jared Dudley, Danny Granger,
Big Baby.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
Big Baby was so fucking crazy.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Bro, he used to come. He wasn't there.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Big Baby was there.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
Turk there, Turk was fin Turk. Bleue wasn't there. And
he was a funny old man wasn't there.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
He had a fun ass team, super fun.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Those card games used to be.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
Remember when I punched the window and that was broken.

Speaker 4 (40:28):
That almost killed us, not almost killed us.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
These motherfuckers had cheat me, Bro. They're playing where they
were supposed to deal off the top and they were
trying to get slicker, and it was like a big
public smiles. Hey, m CP and Blake. I'm like, you
guys got the most money in you y'all some cheating
ass motherfuckers.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
So they cheated me on like a forty thousand dollars
or twenty thousand dollars pot.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
I wasn't I wasn't about I was just told not
to say anything.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
The fix was on.

Speaker 4 (40:58):
The fix was on.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
Oh my god, I lost lost it.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
I didn't want to he almost killed this.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
I didn't want to suck up c PR Blake because
I'll go fuck one of them up on the spot.
So I punched the window was getting cut and luckily bro.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
No, not luckily, he doesn't play the window.

Speaker 1 (41:15):
I broke the first one.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
I got a scarist had to get stitches.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
Scar punched the window.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
You break that second one, it's over.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
The first one is gone.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
I'm like, you know, c c P like big feller,
big feeling.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
I'm like, ain't nothing I can do.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
I was about to fu you.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
It was Blake and Blake and CP were on the fix.
I'm down and I wanted I didn't want to both
either one of them up on the side. Man, hand
is leaking, leaking everybody. But I just wracked that ship
up and I was like, I'm getting my money back
on somebody.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
We're gonna figure this out, you know which, I feel you.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
So those card games funny, those games finally.

Speaker 1 (41:54):
To say the least, So CP comes, Love City is
born reflect because you point it out some earlier that
I tell people like I got a chance to play
for the Lakers too, so did you. But there was
a different pride with the Clippers because they were so
bad for so long. So CP comes and just again
it goes from let's try to make the playoffs to
winning a championship. What was that first energy like when

(42:14):
blob City came back because they were social media, but
it's not the way social media is now, Like Love
City on social media would have been crazy.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
Yeah, it was. It was fun, man, just because when
we first got there, me and Blake were just trying
to put on a show. You know, we're trying to
win games. We definitely trying to put on a show
out there. And then CP came in super methodical and
on you all the time, you know which I like.
Back then I would be like, man, god damn CP,
Like but when I got older and we were teammates

(42:42):
for a couple more years, like I understood it what
it was. It wasn't like he was honest. He just
was like, I need to instill this shit into y'all
if we're gonna, you know, try.

Speaker 4 (42:51):
To compete for a championship.

Speaker 3 (42:53):
So now sometimes I'll talk to the young guys and
I'm like, damn, I sound like CP.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
Yeah, but it's different because I keep your thought because
I think there's a misconception of who he is. It's
just like you don't have that appreciation until you're older
and you understand. Like I fucked with CP because I
yelled whatever, because I used to kind of have to
be the bridge. Like CP would say something Blake and
DJ roll their air roller eyes, and I'll just come
over and put it in different terms and they would
be like, Okay, well.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
He didn't say it like that.

Speaker 1 (43:16):
He is the fuck how he said it, niggul do it.
He's not wrong. So it was kind of like that.
But he he saw what he had to do and
your guys connection with so the way he had both
you guys on both different sides, I mean imagine having
because everyone pictures Blake being the amazing duky DJ was
right there, but DJ was seven feet and doing the
same touching the top backboard type shit. So CP would

(43:38):
just throw that bitch anywhere in the air and just
if you'r a guard, get out the way because you're
gonna get fucked up.

Speaker 3 (43:43):
That was one thing we didn't like about CP when
he first got there. He threw the most perfect lives.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
Like like boring ass libs?

Speaker 2 (43:50):
How can you throw a bad lib to you?

Speaker 4 (43:51):
And Blake?

Speaker 3 (43:52):
That's what I'm saying. It was just he's such a
great passer and play just perfect. Like we we in
the air like oh, I'm about to catch this nasty
and then to be right, oh okay you like, so
we'd be like he was like, I'm like we dunk
and be like damn.

Speaker 4 (44:07):
He was like what's it.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
I'm like no, it was too good, Like like he
was like, what you mean, I'm like, bro, we don't
want the ball, Like throw that bitch, get it, like,
let me do some crazy stuff and he would be
like all right. So then in practice he would just
be like all right, I'm gonna just go.

Speaker 1 (44:22):
Let me know.

Speaker 3 (44:23):
It was still two purpose too purpose. I'm like just
don't look, just throw it. And then he would just
be like the grimor be over here. He'd be like,
that's it. So he'd be like, just don't like anywhere around,
we go get it. So then sometimes he would just
come off and look at the defender and then just
toss it up, you know. And then a couple of
times he was like damn. He was like, y'all told

(44:45):
me we're right right, got it, So then we would.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
Just go get it.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
We'd be blind passes and those are the best nasty held.

Speaker 1 (44:54):
Which reads This leads us to our next segment, Roll
the clip Police Murder. I want everyone just to watch
this the first time.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
You gotta.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
Wait, wait, wait, running back, watching Matt in the corner.
Watch Matt jump up and just take off this full
forty yard dash.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Oh my god, Oh runbody. Somebody died.

Speaker 1 (45:21):
Look at this ship though, So you just told something
before we started.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
Oh my god, Reggie on your team.

Speaker 1 (45:30):
We got Chauncey's old ass couldn't even get up. Dudes
were going crazy, but I didn't know. So the boo
boo face came from you looking at l O. I'm sorry,
Brandon Night, No you're not. Oh he did that to himself.
Ship ain't doing the same. Oh he had first too many.

(45:55):
Look look where he's after, bro, He's seven feet, his
head's at the rim, his arm is above the square.
He didn't have a chance. He hadn't been right ever
since that.

Speaker 4 (46:07):
Yeah, watched l O.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
Oh like.

Speaker 4 (46:15):
That was that was who I was looking at.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
L O made that face at me, and then I
did it baxt to LL So I appreciate Llo for
the viral dumk.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
Yeah, the connection was something serious. We had two opportunities.
We felt like we were the best team in the
league in fourteen and fifteen. Uh the OKC collapse or
the Houston upset?

Speaker 2 (46:40):
What was? They're both tough?

Speaker 3 (46:43):
Yeah, okay, see I just wanted to be okay, see
so bad and we lost on some bullshit.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
Bullshit Reggie well, no, I slapped an off his arm, Yeah, CD,
he was trying.

Speaker 4 (46:58):
To I can still remember that ship.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
And then what they stole it?

Speaker 4 (47:01):
Who hit it?

Speaker 1 (47:02):
The thrust hit the three, then Katie came back hit
the three.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
We were up. We should have won that game. And
then they say you fouled Reggie Jackson.

Speaker 1 (47:08):
That was clean, slight, But then we were up three.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
Still me think.

Speaker 3 (47:18):
Because you when you lose like that, you I can
still remember all of them players and this and that
ship was over ten years ago. You're right, okay, so
down so uh But then twenty fifteen, that hurt even
work because we was up three.

Speaker 2 (47:36):
One, three one. We was looking at the Warriors already.

Speaker 3 (47:38):
Yeah, that's what it was. We were so we were
so thirsty and hungry to beat the Warriors, and we
were we were up three one. We won the first game,
Sep was out. Remember yep, we won the first game.
Cep was out, and then.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
That was that was the ham string, right, because that
was we beat San Antonio, won the championship. Yeah, we
knocked him out. And then yeah, man, we're up three
to one, we're going we're up seventeen and going into
going into the fourth quarter and we win this game.
We played the Warriors in the Western Finals, right, I.

Speaker 4 (48:08):
Love him with fucking Josh Smith and.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
Corey Brewer killed us, killed us, killed us because James,
I don't know if James frustrated, wh kind of like yeah,
just out of it. So the coach took him out,
and their bench came back and came back on a
crazy comeback and then they they got to the game
seven and they beat the ship outson Houston, and.

Speaker 3 (48:30):
That was it was just so because I'm you know,
from Houston. It was just all my boys in high school.
They were rooting for y'all, but we also roomed for
the Rockets, and I'm like, man, I'm not I'm not
with that, ye know. Like so then that was and
then we to lose to them. They're the playing ride
back was just.

Speaker 1 (48:46):
And to keep in mind, like we say like that,
the Warriors are waiting on us and we're going to
whop us. We were the last scene to beat them
in the playoffs the year before. Ye so, like it
was like it was going to be a passing of
the guard. One of us was ready to bust out
because we had did not that there were our little
brothers by any means, but like we were playing them,
and it was we were better than at that time.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
It was just so much fun playing against the Words,
like they that was a great team even before they
won four championships, like their growth.

Speaker 4 (49:11):
Draymond Andre Goadala like that team was good.

Speaker 3 (49:13):
That was a tough team to play man, especially in Oracle,
like that shit was just the battles were fun, like
sometimes they would get the best of us and vice versa.
But like, I have so much respect for that team
this because like it was great basketball being played, it
was physical.

Speaker 4 (49:26):
It was a lot of shit talking, especially with that.
So it was that that that team.

Speaker 1 (49:30):
Samark Jackson was the coach. Yeah, by Steve Kerry came
in free agency classic they take you hostage, So tell.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
Me in my house by the way in Houston.

Speaker 1 (49:41):
Yeah, So DJ was allegedly you know. The crazy part
was I was on vacation in Hawaii and Mark Cuban
was trying to call me to see if I can
help help him because I was already gone. This is
when I was in Memphis already Cuban. But I was
talking to Cuban in Hawaii and He's just like, I
don't know, he hasn't answer, he hasn't done this, hasn't
done that. And I called you don't think I got
I don't know if I got to hold you. But
paint this picture who all came to your house from

(50:03):
the Clippers and how you went from allegedly going to
go to the Mavericks stay with to stay with the Clippers.

Speaker 4 (50:07):
Mat This was after we lost to the Rockets.

Speaker 1 (50:10):
I was going, I was the first trade. By the way,
let's back up and talk about why I was the
first trade. That's what I wanted to say earlier.

Speaker 4 (50:15):
I don't remember that. I think remembers that moment, but
you were.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Sitting and you were sitting right next to me when
all the ship went down.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
I was like, man, please stop shut.

Speaker 1 (50:24):
Up because he was picking on me. Please because he
was picking on me over some bullshit, like I took
two we played the Warriors, I think right, but we
had played the Warriors. We were watching the Warriors, and
I took two shots the whole game, and he started
like every shot he reround and then I made I
was over to.

Speaker 2 (50:41):
You should have passed here, you should have did this.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
She was like, hold on, doc, I took two shots
the whole fun game, play defense whole time. Other people
was playing light like what like, I don't mind you
doing it, but you're doing too much. And then he
started talking back to me, and I started talking back
to them. So when I got up, and it's very
uncharacteristic of Matt to ever talk back to the coach,
as everybody know that this is a real good guy.

Speaker 3 (51:02):
He's coachable, don't say shit, just kind of put his
head down at work.

Speaker 1 (51:06):
So this is people that I do. I grind, Yeah,
I mean, I don't talk shit back to no coach.
But I just felt like he was on me a
little ex too much.

Speaker 2 (51:13):
So I get up.

Speaker 1 (51:13):
In the whole room was like like kind of like
they didn't know what was going on. So I get
up and me and DJ are on the far wall,
and then to walk out, you got to go past
the coaches, t lou and docking them. And when I
got up, DJ mat man, please don't man, don't stop. Man,
don't Matt stop. So I get up and everyone's scared
as fuck. They'll know what I'm gonna do, because I

(51:34):
really don't know what I'm gonna do if I'm nobody want.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
To get in front of Mecans like he may swing
on me, so let me hear.

Speaker 1 (51:39):
So I don't know if I'm gonna take off on.
Doctor just leaves, so I look and I look at
him and I kind of shake my head and he's
kind of like, so I say fucking, I just go out,
and I'm about to go. I'm about to just say
fucking and take my ship off and go home. I'm like, now,
fuck it, I can't let my teammates s. That's as
close as the playoffs. I want to say. I can't
let my teammates down. So I just sit in there
and I can see the field, so you can see
the court court from the locker room. Someone to come

(52:00):
back when they go out, don't watch a film. We
all go out to stretch. I'm like, fucking I go
back out there and I'm I'm the starting three. We're
stretching and Doc tells me to come flip my jersey
to white. And when I tell you, Bro, I wanted
to cuss his motherfucking ass out that day, but this

(52:21):
is a whole this is a two day process. DJ
I cussed him out the next day of shoot around
when we played Portland and we had an early game.
So anyway, so Doc tells me to take my ship off,
and I look at him and just kind of so
I took my ship off and I threw my jersey.
I'm like, I was like, I'm not flipping my ship.
These motherfuckers know what team I'm on. And when I
tell you, I went out there and bullied the whole practice,

(52:44):
bullied everybody.

Speaker 3 (52:45):
Y'all ever seen for anybody, Maybe you could put a
clip up the longest yard.

Speaker 4 (52:50):
Yes, the way, Michael, everyone was playing.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
Basketball that I was like, oh shit.

Speaker 4 (52:58):
I was like, man, we're good, right, really good.

Speaker 1 (53:02):
So it fucked me up. I think I was in
trouble for smoke, and I started smoking again that night,
didn't sleep all night. It killed me that I didn't
say nothing or jump on Doc. So the next day
we have an early shoot around and I just go
in on him, go in on him, and in front
of everyone, we brought it in and I just cussed
his ass out. We cussed each other out. We went

(53:22):
through shoot around for a little bit. Then we were
back in the locker room. I was trying to fuck
Dock up, and then Mike bro or Mike Woodson got
in the middle of it. I told, fuck you, what
do y'all fuck you up to? We all so and
then finally that just me and Doc got in his
office and I made sure everyone else got out. I
locked the door and we just had a real conversation
and it was his tone had changed a little bit,
but I think he was ready. Yeah, it was ready.

(53:43):
And then everyone was like listening on the door and
anyway I saw I say all that to say after
we lost to Houston, I was traded at twelve oh one.
That's where That's why I told the story. I was
traded at twelve oh one for Lance Stevenson. Back to
your doing, how you how'd you end up staying well?

Speaker 3 (54:02):
So we ended up I ended up saying like, man,
like maybe you know I had mentally I was, I
was messed up. I was like, man, we just up
three to one on the rockets and we lost, and
this is our year blah blah blah.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
We this ship has had so many times somebody get hurt.

Speaker 3 (54:15):
We did this.

Speaker 4 (54:16):
I was like, maybe it's my time to kind of
like and.

Speaker 1 (54:18):
There was some trauma enough to cut you off. There
was turmoil on that team, like there was some head
button we don't have to get into now, but there
was head button going on in there too.

Speaker 3 (54:26):
Yeah yeah, And I think it was just that was
just like young ego bullshit, you know. And I was like,
maybe it's my time to kind of like leave and
see what other options are there to try to reach
my goal that you know, winning that championship, being an
All Star and All Defensive player, to all.

Speaker 4 (54:44):
That stuff, and.

Speaker 3 (54:47):
Immediately I had a call with Dallas and I'm like, man,
I think I'm gonna go to Dallas. It's close enough
to Houston, but far enough away to where people want
to come there. Got to be like, hey, you up?

Speaker 2 (54:56):
You know.

Speaker 3 (54:57):
So I was like, you know, I was talking to
Chandler at that time, and I was like, you know what,
I'm just going to Dallas. Fuck it, Like I agree
to go to Dallas, and I remember I agreed to
go there, and uh, Mark who we're actually we talk now,
so it's good. He said, hey, come to Dallas you
know today and we'll announce it. I'm like, no, I'm

(55:17):
going on vacation with my family. And he was like, no, no, no,
come to Dallas and I'm going to Va care To
with my family in two days.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
I'll go for a week and I'll come back and
I'll be there. So he said, okay, cool. So I
go to Houston. I'm packing up.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
Were about to leave in two days to go on vacation.
And my brother's like, yo, you talked to Doc And
I was like, I ain't talked to him yet. I
don't really, you know, because I you know, I love
doct that's my guy. So I'm like, you know, I don't.
I ain't talked to him yet. Literally, like we're in
the room in my house. You've been there, and I'm like, damn,
I said Doc calling me. Corey was like, don't answer that,

(55:55):
and I'm like, I got a answer, bro, So I answered.
We talking, you know, you know, long story story that
gets to like, man, I just we got un finished business.
I'm like, yeah, I know, Doc, but I just feel
like I need to do something different, you know.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
And uh.

Speaker 3 (56:09):
He was like, well, if you ever changed your mind,
we would have your back. And I'm like, man, I
told these people I'm coming there. I can't not go,
you know. So he'said, but if you had, if you
had a change of heart, we would. I'm like, all right,
let me let me I'll call you back. So thirty
minutes later, Blake called me, Hey, Bro, you're coming back.
I'm like, nah, what's up? He was like, I don't know.

(56:30):
We're coming out there tomorrow. Like way you like to Houston.
Mattias called me, big funner, you're staying with the clips.
I'm like, now I'm going to Dallas. I don't know
what the fuck is going on. They told me I
had to leave summer league. I'm coming to Houston tomorrow morning.
Put the whole thing together.

Speaker 1 (56:48):
So Matias is like our little home boy, the coolest
little equipment manager Jersey's and the rafters.

Speaker 3 (56:54):
Dam Yeah, that's Matis is definitely in the raft. For
Mattias is a rock star. Man is whatever we was
doing back then with the Clippers doing.

Speaker 1 (57:08):
It, but more cracking than us, harder than us.

Speaker 3 (57:11):
He had to play, so he just had to set
the shoes out and make sure the types was clean.

Speaker 4 (57:16):
Other than that, like he was, he was doing whatever.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
So then.

Speaker 4 (57:21):
The mic is gonna pick that up?

Speaker 3 (57:23):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (57:24):
Uh So they pulled up and who ends up coming.

Speaker 3 (57:30):
It's Blake's uh CP, Mattias l Frank Steve Bomber, the
guy who writes the contracts.

Speaker 4 (57:39):
He came in with his printer and computer.

Speaker 3 (57:41):
Was Paul there, Doc Paul, who I had never met before,
Paul Pierson. He came armand Hill who's another great guy,
and we all chatting and well we're sitting there talking
and it's kind of like a bullshit combo, and then
my mom.

Speaker 4 (57:55):
Breaks the ice.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
She's like, so, what's I'm gonna say something? What's going on, like,
y'all three, y'all don't like each other.

Speaker 1 (58:02):
What's with you Blake and CPA?

Speaker 3 (58:04):
She said, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (58:06):
Oh yeah, yeah, miss Kim, let's hear.

Speaker 3 (58:07):
It, she was, because I need to know what's going on.
Y'all don't like each other, because y'all the key to
us winning. If whatever the.

Speaker 4 (58:13):
Issue y'all got, y'all at the hash that ship all right.

Speaker 1 (58:16):
I didn't want to say, but miss Kim and Miss
Kim is more so much more of a g But
that was our biggest issue these two Blake and DJ
didn't see Chris and I'm.

Speaker 3 (58:26):
Like, we was like, oh, ship, so it's all right,
it's here, now let's go, you know. So then we
we hashed out some ship that we needed to get off,
our chance to conversation that we've had internally but not
you know, with everybody. And I think that that was
really good because I feel like we were both kind
of at the end of the day. I think that
we just didn't see out the eye because we felt

(58:46):
we were developing into these players and maybe ego wise,
we maybe thought that like, maybe he still see us
as the guys that we first came He first came
in with as like third and second year players, so.

Speaker 2 (58:59):
They were immature.

Speaker 4 (59:00):
Yeah, we were definitely imaged.

Speaker 3 (59:01):
I was, I know, I was a little bit more immature,
so and uh and I you know, I'm definitely a
feelings on my shoulder type of player in person. But uh,
from that conversation on Christ and Ozed relationship was amazing.
So you know, we would cuss each other out and
be like, all right, you ready, let's get it, you know.
And I think I just needed to understand his approach

(59:21):
and what he expected of us and what we expected him.
And I think that, you know, as an adult, you know,
you got to have conversations like that, the hard conversations.
And and it wasn't even a hard conversation. It was
just being a grown ass man and having a conversation
with another grown ass man about some bullshit issues, you know.
And uh and ultimately that that was that was it. Like,

(59:44):
once we all had that conversation, it was easy. I
was like, all right, I'm cool. I'm like, all right,
all right, y'all. See y'all, I'm staying blah blah blah.
Armand Hill and Paul going in my backyard they smoking cigars,
I'm like, hey, y'all, I think we're all good. And
then people Paul like, we're not leaving until you sign.
Like as we know, He's like, oh, Doc, man, leave

(01:00:08):
until you sign. And this is like we in Houston,
So I need to sign at like eleven pm.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
So Steve Boma orders a ton of food. Shout out
Steve Bomber. That's my guy. Love him. He ordered a
ton of foods that what do you guys want? Whatever?

Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
We ordered up a gang of food, wine, champagne, all
kind of shit. And I ended up signing and it
was great. Like two years later, I became an All Star.
Next year I went to the Olympics. So it was
it was great, man. But I think that that was
a turning point in my career from going from like
a young player to like an adult, like being able
to get through ship and it was it was.

Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
It was great.

Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
So I appreciate those guys because I ultimately I love
Dallas for taking a chance on me. But I you know,
deep down, I didn't want to leave.

Speaker 1 (01:00:49):
I never wanted to with the Clippers. You actually end
up in Dallas though.

Speaker 4 (01:00:56):
Yeah. When my agent called me, I was like, no way.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
So how how was that because I know they were
pissed at you, that fan base Mark, they were mad
at you for real? You end up there in twenty
Was it nineteen? Is that I was saying, yeah, nineteen,
which is Luca's rookie year. How what was the transition
process like for you?

Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
Well, before we go to Dallas.

Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
When we went to play Dallas that year, I never
had been a player where when I touched the ball,
people boo, I don't touch the ball enough. Every time
I touched the ball, and I'm like, oh, your motherfucker.
I'm like, I'm like, no, that can't be me, right,
every time I touched them, I would miss a shot. Yeah,
I'm like damn, Like I'm that guy now. So I

(01:01:36):
kind of started to embrace it. I mean, I'm sure
you guys could pull it up. Like they had a
picture of me with devil horns on the paper in
Dallas to bring to the game a cutout, and I'm like,
damn that. That's when I got into meditation, was I'm like, Damn,
I'm this person, Like motherfucker said, I'm the devil, you know.
Like that that just kind of like fucked me up

(01:01:57):
mentally as a as a younger player, didn't.

Speaker 5 (01:02:00):
Have lucky, They didn't have no cut out of you
in the jail uniform right under the basket in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
And see that, yeah right there, go down right there.

Speaker 4 (01:02:11):
Oh wow, it was bring to the game the devil.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
The newspaper paper.

Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
I never forget that ship, devil, you said, And I was,
I look handsome as hell do on that picture. Yeah
you know that I got to.

Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
Mess that stunge bute bro ship you got on your
hand right that short ship.

Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
That ain't me?

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
This my this, This looks like you put some some
some effort into that.

Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
That's a little soul going there.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
So the fans brought that. Everybody they about that to
the game. That was when I did the State Farm commercial.
I was miss Hooper, so they would break pictures of
me with the.

Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
Blonde wig and ship.

Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
Yeah, so like that was a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
Man, I found all about that bullship.

Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
But I enjoyed my time in Dallas. Man like looking
was a rookie. You know, he you know, he's obviously
a great he was even so flashes of greatness back then.
So it was great to be able to play with
him in Dallas. I will, you know, go to the
Cowboys games because I'm a fan of the greatest team
to ever play football.

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
That's right, what's your first what's your what's your right?
What's your first? Impression of Luca though, because he came
in the game like a vet.

Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
He was so methodical.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
You know, some rookies when you come in at that age,
you just going too fast. He was like, nah, I'm
not doing that. I'm going my pace. He was a
great pass so he could score. He uses he's six seven,
he used his body, and you know, just being able
to play with him, I'm like, Dan, this dude is
super skilled, hitting crazy ass shots out of bounds, like
he's just at that age coming in. I'm like, damn,

(01:03:39):
this kid is special. And then also we had a
young Jalen Brunson too, so talk about that, you know,
it was it was cool to be able to see
those guys kind of develop. And I'm like, damn, Like,
I'm kind of glad that I missed out on those
years before because I'm like, then they ended up getting Luca,
you know. So I definitely enjoyed my time in Dallas
until I got traded. At everywhere you.

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Got traded the first year you were there. Yeah, they
was not fucking with you. DJ.

Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
They was like, yeah, you know what, We're gonna get
your ass back. Yeah, this is a crazy shot to
look a here.

Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
Rookie.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:04:13):
Yeah he was sick. Look he cold?

Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
Yeah, I'm like he was.

Speaker 5 (01:04:20):
Colis was like, what the gold medal twenty sixteen Olympics
KD teammates Butler, Kyrie, Clay Mellow, pg Jmond Boogie.

Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
What was that like the Olympic sperienced? Did you gotta
stay on the big boat. Yeah, because there was like
Zica was going on that summer or something.

Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
They called you the fun uncle had a good time
of the team. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
No, DJ was always he's common reserve. Now, DJ was
always the one he probably learned from l or maybe
we didn't talk about l. L O was the coolest.

Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
Best teammates I had in my life.

Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
Llo was one of the coolest teammates ever.

Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
He was amazing. He was a great teammate man.

Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
And you know, I'm I'm like, you know, l O
six man championships the Lakers that like, he was just
a great teammate man and like, you know, when everything
was going on with him, like it was, it was sad.
And scary just because I was like, damn, but this
was a teammate of mine, you know. But yeah, the
rio was Rio was fun, man, and it was stay

(01:05:19):
on the boat.

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Okay, y'all got off the boat.

Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
No, we didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
Have had a great time, yeah, you know, but it
was it was cool, like being able to you know,
that was the first time being on a team like
that because I made the Olympics before I made the
All Star team, and uh, this was cool because in
twenty sixteen, I was a first team All NBA, first
team All Defense, but didn't make the All Star team.

Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
Imagine that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
So that was cool.

Speaker 5 (01:05:49):
But I made the Olympics, so that was dope. You
started in the gold medal game too. I did nine
point sixteen rebounds, four blocks. Yeah, so that was that
was cool.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
His DJ thing, Yeah, that was that was that was
super fun just to play with so many future Hall
of famers and and great guys. And it also was
the year that Katie said he was going to the Warriors,
so we really, you know, our bond really developed stronger
during that time because he went through I went through
a fraction of what he went through when I said
I was going back to the Clippers.

Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
So I was like, yo, like this what I went
through blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
And so you know, it's time to connect when you
when you are away from your family with with that team,
and it was it was just such a fun ass time, man,
and being able to represent your country.

Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
Give me one fun story that happened you could talk about?
Oh god, uh that you could talk about?

Speaker 6 (01:06:40):
I know, Uh, Matt, I don't know nothing, nothing, I
don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
It was fun man. I mean Jimmy, Uh, if you
know Jimmy, he's a big football fan. So he would
bring us football and we would run routes on the
court all the time after the practice, and Coach K
was kind of like, all right enough for the football shit.
You know, it was all right, kay, we got you.
When he would leave, we run football route. So like
that was probably one of the most fun things doing that.

Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
What was like, what was l like with Coach K?

Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
I love K Man. That was his last year doing
the Olympics, so he was super amped up.

Speaker 3 (01:07:18):
You know, if anybody's been around K, he cares about
the game. He's super competitive and he'll cuss your ass
out if you're not ready to play. And I respect
the ship out of k for that and we had
some real conversations with k Man and it was it
was great to be able to play for a legendary
coach like that, especially with that being his last Olympics
that he coached and win a gold medal.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:07:39):
That was that was that was amazing for me as
a player.

Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
The Nets Experiment twenty nineteen came from the Knicks to
team mother, KD and Kyrie bring us inside of that
process in that locker room and the expectations and what
it turned out to be.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Well, obviously we didn't reach our goal all goal of
winning the championship. However, I do think that it was
fun being able to kind of orchestrate something with your friends,
to be able to play with each other.

Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
So that was all the playing, huh somewhat?

Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
It was you know, we were all free agents at
the same time, and it was cool to be able
to play.

Speaker 4 (01:08:17):
You know what.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
You know, so many times the teams and the NBA
has control over certain situations, and it was the first
time we all were in the same situation, like, we're
all super cool, let's try to make this ship work.
And it was it was cool. Man, because at that
time we you know, we're just trying to figure it out.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
Y'all took lesson sacrifice for everyone to get there.

Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
It was and it was fun though. Man.

Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
That was my first time living on the East Coast
really and I had never you know, been there like that.
And I'm like, all right, cool, this is this is fun.
I've done this with my friends and ultimately, if it
don't work out, at least I get to play with
my homeboys and then we figure it out.

Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
So it was it was like seeing Katie and Kyrie,
like from a practice side, it was incredible their work
ethic because I remember seeing Katie and Steph and Clay
with it was it was I wish people just could
get a chance to see pull the curtain up and
see the work ethic they put in.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
Yeah, and it wasn't a failure. Ship.

Speaker 5 (01:09:11):
If ky Kyrie don't get hurt and Katie put a
little smaller, yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Mean people understand you know what I'm saying that Game
one James missus hamstring up.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Yeah, I'm saying injury.

Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
James got hurt. So like I think, if Kyle don't
get hurt, James don't get hurt. I mean, should have,
would have, could have Milwaukee won that year. Congratulated, But
I think it's different, you know, like I think it's different.
But younger, I got to see Blake and Chris two
future you know, Hall of famers work and how hard
they worked and how smart they were. But being able

(01:09:41):
to see these guys who are so offensively gifted man like,
they would play ones after practicing, you would everybody would
try to hurry up and get they little pd and
after practice so we could watch them play ones. And
if you're a fan of the game, of course I
want to see a six to two Kyrie play against
a listed six' nine played ones like.

Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
That shit was.

Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
Incredible and then When james came in next, year like,
that shit. Was if you love, basketball you're gonna love
to see them work out and play. Ones so that
being able to play with them guys was was was,
great even though we didn't, Win like that was a
great time in my. CAREER i enjoyed.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
It did you, said whose career did you? Change but
DJ j something like somebody.

Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Else can Be, no it was. Him, YEAH i told
dj to start tipping the ball out.

Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
Like Marcus camby And Tyson.

Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
Chandler, yeah, OH i told, him, Like, tyson what DID i?
Saw WHAT i told? You and me AND dj had a.
CONVERSATION i Love. TYSON i was, like you're just as, good,
jump just as, high, block just as many. SHOWS i
used to TELL dj just like the smut because he
was still, young but he was so. GOOD i don't
think he understood how good he was because he was
in the moment and doing. It BUT i used to
just try to tell him little shit Like, Yo Tyson
chandler is An olympian And Tyson chandler is an all.

(01:10:52):
Star to, me you're better than. Him start doing like
watch what he's. Doing block the, shots do. That that's
a good, Call jlani and it low and. BEHOLD i
mean obviously you know you had to put the work
in and do, it but that's what you. Took that next.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
Step, yeah like being LIKE i, said being able to
have vents like that on your, team who really go
tell you what you need to, hear regardless of your,
feelings like or if you don't like what they, say
it's real. Shit LIKE i go back to that conversation
we had during free, agency Like Blake chris AND i,
mean like that. Was that was good because it was
just sometimes you gotta have ship like that, man like

(01:11:26):
you gotta have arguments or or just to let shit
out and, uh because then you appreciate that person even
more So matt will customing out all the, time, like,
no mad fucked, That i'm not doing. That just fucking
get a hundred, rebounds try to block every shot and,
that you, know.

Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
Because there was there was a little there was a
little discomfort in the space BECAUSE dj was going from
like the defensive rebounder and and and just protect the
paint to, like, nah this motherfucker is more than. That
and he knew he was more than, that but it
was kind of a tug of war at the time
with some other people. Around so it's just LIKE i
would just try to just do other, ship, bro this

(01:12:03):
is what you could. Do so it all worked out
real quick before we hit quick. Hitters what was it
like playing With?

Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
Lebron you know WHAT i thought, That, uh that team.

Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Was that team was. Fun we were obviously a lot,
older but, uh playing for The lakers is a different beast, man,
right it was. FUN i think that, obviously like that
team didn't pan out to be what it was supposed to,
be but, uh it was, cool you, know playing with
one of the, greatest if not the greatest player they
ever played the game. Was it was, amazing, Man like you,
know connection was. GREAT i thought that. Was it was

(01:12:33):
fun playing for The. Lakers it just didn't pan out
to WHAT i thought it was gonna be for me
individually and then collectively as a. Unit but it WAS
i THOUGHT i had a good.

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
Time quick.

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Hitters top five all time dunkers in your, Opinion.

Speaker 3 (01:12:46):

is tough. Man Sean, Camp, okay you got, man That's
un'm Like Sean, camp you gotta do. It AND i
mean like not like just like trick, dunks but like

(01:13:09):

that's good.

Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
