Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back all the smoke, Day two from the Pump
Galler twenty twenty five. Just had a great sit down
with Daryl Strawberry, and this next one's gonna be just
as good. I know, my guy, five time Pro bowler,
three time Super Bowl champ, over eleven thousand yards. We
all know Jack is a huge Cowboys fan, Texas baby,
and they haven't been good since. Our next guest play
(00:22):
welcome to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
That's all right, man. You know what, we still got
more super Bowls in there. We still we still That's
what you see.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
That's what you gotta be careful about as a Cowboy
fan because we're coming here.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
History.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
History is history, but people want to take you to
that selective history. It's their history. They only want to
go those thirty years back. Well, y'all, they did nothing
that thirty years, but we stacked five forget about that.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Want to remember the last thirty y'all. You're right, you're right,
you're right. You'll get the wordplay. We stacked five of y'all. Yeah,
So so come on with all that, you know what,
don't tell your story, tell this story.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
That's why they call it his story, not your story.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
His story. Tell the whole story.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
I'm always fucking too. I'm a Niner fan, so I'll
be on.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Jack them some good battles.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
The NIS Championship Games legendary.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Going back to twenty two year old Michael Irving, what's
one piece of advice you would have gave him?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Oh? Man, it's so many things. I want to tell
that knucklehead. And a lot of my money, man, a
lot of my money spent on that jury. Could have
left that somewhere and let that just grow. You know,
you were gonna get them girls anywhere. They need that,
you know what I mean. But we think we need
that at the time. But I can, I can explain
(01:59):
that and then blame that because you know, when you
had nothing and you finally got something, you wanted to
know to the world, look at me, I got something,
and so so that was all part of it.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
But the whole thing is, honestly the ride, the whole journey.
You know, you enjoy the peaks and door the valleys.
But boy, I just told till twenty two Michael Irvin,
But you got a ride.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
In front to be ready fast see the hell of
a ride. It has been a hell of a ride.
Went traded in absolutely, you know what I'm saying. For nothing.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
You were a victim of an unfortunate situation at a hotel.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
You know, yeah, you decided to sue.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Can you break that down and kind of tell us
without for those who don't know what is about in work,
kind of.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Stays Okay, let me tell you what happened with this.
This was This was a couple of years ago to
Super Bowl right now. I just swasted my mother in
law and I remember coming in. I had to go
to work. I was working the next morning, so I
had to get up, like eight nine o'clock. So I
got I came in the hotel about ten thirty. I'm
being a good dude's early.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I went out.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I went out early because my boy picked me up
and we went out and got something neat. So I
had some drinks. But I know, I said, I'm coming
back home. So I come to the hotel. It's true too,
so I said, okay, I'm headed in. I see some
guys at the bar right They called me over. They said, man,
Michael Man, Eagles fans. They were talking football stuff and
we're messing around. They offered me a drink. I said no,
(03:27):
I'm good. I gotta work in the morning, so so
I left me. I was getting ready to leave, but
I saw one dude that had a camera right, and
I knew he wanted a picture, and I didn't I
he didn't ask. So when I walked away, I got convicted.
I said, brother, I said that was cool. Come on,
let's walk outside and let's take a pic. So me
and these three dudes walked outside. We taking a picture.
(03:48):
We clown in around talking about Patrick Mahomes. And I
walked back and I said, all right, I got to
get them. Going to the room, I walk in, I
meet a woman, this girl, I don't remember her. We
shake her hands. I don't remember what I said to her,
and I go to the room.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Dude. Next day, I wake up, do all my shows.
After the shows, I come back, I'm trying to take
a nap, and they called me to the room.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Who took the security NFL in the hotel security? And
I'm saying, call me for what you know, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (04:18):
What's going on? They didn't tell me for a while, Michael,
we have a situation. I'm like, what situation? Right? I know,
ain't nobody get to my room? Last night. You know
what I'm saying, be cause but now.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
IVER been hit enough that I know if you can't
get if you don't get to the room, I'm good.
You know what I mean. Don't get into the room.
Most dudes go out trying to look for something. I'm like,
I just got to get home alone, to the room.
Nothing going. I'll be good. But but yeah, I'm thinking, like,
what happened? What are you talking about? We had a situation.
(04:52):
I said, what situation? I said, don I said what
the girl said?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
What girl? Wasn't no girl my room. That's the first
thing I said. I ain't mean nobody anybody in my room.
They said, you didn't meet any girl last night. I said, no,
I didn't meet anybody. I don't know anything. I walked,
I came in home. I came home early because I
had to work. I went to my room. That's how
it all happened.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And then they wouldn't even tell me. They wouldn't even
show me. I said, show me the tape, show me
what they would.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I had to sue the hotel, and then after the
judge they told him you gotta show him the tape.
They still wouldn't turn it over.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
I had to print it again, but the tape showed
that I met some I met this girl in the
hall and we had a conversation.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
And I left. Now what saved me?
Speaker 3 (05:39):
What saved me? Dog, I'm telling you what saved me
was those three dudes that I went and took the
pick with. Because they woke up the next morning and
saw all the news and they were like, that didn't happen.
What the hell they said that that didn't happen. Why
would they do that?
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Dude?
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Let me tell you. For the first few days, I
was at a hotel, but I couldn't go to anymore Marriott's,
so I was at some little dump hotel. They told
me them in the NFS, Michael, you can go home.
I said, wait, an, let me get this right. So
I'm telling you I didn't do anything last night. You're
telling me I did do something last night. Now you're
(06:21):
telling me to go home. So I'm telling you I
must be crazy, and you sending me home to my family.
So I couldn't go home, so I stayed in a hotel,
got my age and some people to watch me, cause
I'm like, am I doing something.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
That I don't even know what was?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Being alleged.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I don't know she said something. The girl said for
for a while, I don't even know what she said.
Then it all came out that she said. I said
something like, have you ever been with a black man?
Would you like to be with a black man? That's
what this was about. That's a crime.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I don't know. That's crime, right, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Depending on when your skin color the state, Yeah, no,
I ain't got nothing to do with the state.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
But I don't think why would I say that. I
don't think I said that. Let me tell you. I said.
I don't think I said that. Now, I don't. I
I was drinking. Admit I was drinking because I'm not
I'm not a loser. I'm not a quitter.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
If I mean, if I'm that deep in a conversation,
I'm not gonna turn and walk away.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Jump. But I don't lose like that.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yeah, you know what I I'm gonna convince her confusion,
but we're gonna walk away today.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Come right. If that's if that's what I was after,
And that's why I know I turned and walked off
when I saw the video and said, no, I walked
off too easy. Yeah, I know, Mike, I know, I know,
you know what I mean. No, you're he you ain't shoot.
You have saw me hold the head and ground and
(07:53):
it's like, come on, yeah, you'd had something, but you'.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
The known I was, but I was like, no, I
ain't say that. I walked off to it. And and
that was the whole thing. Now what we think because
we finally got the tape, and you'll see in the
tape was the manager dude when they were not supposed
to engage with us in the hotel, and you can
see in the tape the manager he was yelling at
her and went in the back yelled at her.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
So you know, maybe they had something going.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Did she work for the hotel?
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yes, yes, she worked for the hotel.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Glad you got through that man.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Me and you you.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
I'm glad that I and the sky didn't tell no lie,
you know what I mean, because I've already been you
guys know, I've been accused of I mean, I wouldn't
even there. I've been accused of some things that I
haven't even been there, you know, so so and in
our world, nobody waits to find out the truth. Nobody
cares about that. It's just the allegation. So yeah, I'm scared.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
The headline. The lives of the headline.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Shout out to our family and Netflix the Cowboys doc.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Have you seen it? Yes, yes, yeah, what can you say?
They kind of said giving it away. Well, they sent
to me early because they knew, you know, they said,
we're gonna see at you.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I said, oh, ship, I mean, you know, damn again. Right,
it's so funny.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
We get the premiere the other day, right, and he
and I and Jerry and we all did the premiere
and we were laughing, and I said, you know, I
understand Jerry.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Got final cut. You and Troy so straight laced. That's
just what it is.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
I'm gonna have to be the bad boy in this,
right And he said, well.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
It kind of was the bad boy.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I said, yeah, I guess it's right. It says kind
of fitty, you know, but yeah, I saw the thought.
I think it's fascinating. I think about the journey. It's
all about the journey and what made our journey together.
When you talk about me and Troy Dion, you know,
and Jerry, all of that was like how it all came,
how it all came about, you know, Emmitt and Dion
(10:05):
and I.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
We played against.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Each other on the top three teams in Florida, Florida State, Florida,
in Miami, you know, and we became boys probably to
all of this. So so to get together and then
play together and still be boys to this day, you
know what I mean. That's that's what I think this
whole documentary about. Like we started off too, we went
(10:27):
three and thirteen and one in fifteen. We didn't just
start on a great team, you know, and then we
built it into something great.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
There was nothing like winning that first Super Bowl, man, and.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
After after you know, after going through.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Those early years losing like that, and then sitting in
that locker room, like, dude, we actually did this, man,
oh my god, like you know, and you talking about
it taking down the forty nine ers who had been
who had took that thing from Dallas, you know, so
we had to go take that damn back, you know,
on my watch, so that was, yeah, we would have
(11:02):
got it back. That thing was Yeah, it was incredible.
It was an incredible thing. And I think that's that's
what the documentary catch. You know what thing I tell
you what surprised me a great deal to that I
think people find very fascinating is the Jerry Jones story.
When you hear about some of the things that Jerry did.
I mean even in college, prior to really owning a
(11:23):
football team, a sports team, an NFL team, because he
always wanted to own an NFL team, and how he
thought about the business. I don't want to give it away,
but if I find that to be fascinating, you know
what I mean. I find it be fascinating how his
dad told him about marketing, and his dad had a
grocery store. I'll tell you this, if dad had a
(11:45):
grocery store and he would do concerts in the middle
of a grocery store, So you know, you go, yeah,
in marketing, you and he said that you're doing all
this to sell lettuce.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
But if you come in that town and you see this,
and you and you walk away, no matter what time
you go to, you said, man, will it this grocery store.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Had a rock band in the middle of it. You
know it's it really is marketing, And it was just fascinating.
I think you got yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Jerry and Parsons are heavy in the news right now.
Parsis claiming that Jerry is disrespecting what he is. We
know how Jerry moved man. You know, we need to
figure out how we're gonna fix this.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Yes, especially Michael I was. I was disappointed about this one.
I knew the game would be played when you talk
about DAK and CD and all of that, but Michael,
I thought you should have made kind of like what
your generational player, like like statement with right right right,
like what what Kansas City did with Pat Mahomes. You know,
(12:51):
they went and said when the average was about fifty
million a year, forty five million a year at the time,
they said, let's give him five hundred million, you know,
ten years. I say, if a statement, right, right, right,
you make a statement. But what they also do they
can tinker with that. They go back into it, you know,
and every time the money gets up, they go back
(13:12):
into it and and and give him some more money.
Patrick Mahomes, And that's what I wanted him to do
with Michael. I know, they should have given him one
of those ten years for four hundred and fifty million
dollars deal. You know, it's forty five you know, making
the highest paid AP on average and and still be
able to tinkle with them and go back into that
money and mess around to bring in other players.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
He is that generation to he's that.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Generational talent, and he he lost the Cowboys. I see
this because when I was when I was working, I
was working his draft. Dude, I was interviewing players, man,
and I didn't even know who the joker was. The
joke came to mean, I'm gonna do this, so I'm
gonna be what you doing.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I'm gonna do what you do.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
That means, I say, when we've had a time to
have a conversation, he was like, I said, what do
you mean? He said, Man, I'm play when from Super
Bowls and I'm gonna be doing broadcasting. So I love
that he's following that path. But he wants to be
a cowboy. He never bought. He's always said he wanted
to be a cowboy. I think you know, listen, our game,
(14:15):
what we do is different than what most people do.
See most people to get to the top of that game,
they'll punch of computer, so so they got to top
it off their skill. As long as they're improving their skill,
they can get places. But our game is different. Since
his hand in hand, the man the man come back.
We got to improve our skill, but deepen our wills
(14:35):
since I'm going against another grown man and his will
to want to be a cowboy and always stated that
you want that in the locker room. I want to
see what a happy Michael Parsons look like without DeMarcus
Lawrence on the other side, because you can't tell me
that they didn't have problems in their locker room with
(14:57):
this fact that they had Marcus Lawrence left that that
that was in the locker room, and football is a
different game. I need everybody to play together, so I
know there was a division there and I want to
see what. I want to see what this defense looked
like without the vision and Jerry has caused it with
the Michael Parson thing and then and finding Trayvon Diggs.
(15:20):
Half now you see those two are working together and
and and yeah, that bothers me, that worries me.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
That can't let him go while he is prime. Let's
talk about your door, how you feel about what you're
doing doing.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
And man, I was so happy for your door. I
was just you know, I was I was thrilled because
I thought I thought that was that was devastating. What
happened that at the drive dude. And then when I
interviewed theon the other day, I'm gonna tell you something
that was that was the most difficult thing for me,
(15:51):
because you know, I love him, He's my boy. We're
so close, all of us are so close. And and
I knew that he had cancer because he called me
right away and brought me up told me.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
And I really.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
It was a burden, I mean because I didn't want
anybody to find out. I knew he had only told
me somebody to find out. I don't want him to
think I violated it anyway. I would never do that.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
And I and so I didn't go into details when
he told me, like what happened? How you know? When
did you find out all of those things?
Speaker 3 (16:22):
And then he said, come on with you do an interview,
and I came over and we were doing the interview
and I was finding out things like dude, dude almost
broke down when I heard he had cancer during the
drivet do you all understand that he had cancer? And
then his son drops like that. You know, I'll get
(16:45):
emotional tall, but but to think about you, you worked
all your life for this moment, and your your dad.
You know you're to have it with your dad. You
worked all this hard, you worked hard with your son
side by side for this moment, and in this moment,
you got cancer. Now you you think you're dying and
not telling anybody. So at least if I can have
(17:06):
this moment, if I'm going to go, then I'm good
with that, you know what I mean. And then and
then your son drops and you still that was man,
That was That was hard for me to hear that
my guy went through that and to be right there
because I didn't know the details of it, and it
was It's even hard for me to think about it
(17:27):
and talk about it because I know what it means.
But then to see how she do is handling. You know,
you cannot handle it better. And when you get a
mess like that like he did, you turn it into
a message that that's what makes him him, you know,
and that's what makes him great. I tell people. You
hear him talk about it all the time. He's on
(17:51):
Instagram on all the social media. It's all inspiration, motivation,
that's what he gives. And you you heard the talk
God displayed his walk. You know, he gave you evidence
that he believes what he's saying, because he has to
walk it out. That that was, Yeah, that was. That
(18:12):
was tough for me to watch him go through it.
But I'm so happy with how it has come out
and how she do what is playing, you know what
I mean. So so yeah, all that thing that never
meant for either, God made it good.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
Yeah, and we don't have the relationship you and Dionna have.
But he you know, he reached out to us too,
and it was tough for us to even here, you
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
But he built for whatever. Yeah, he built for whatever. Yeah,
he's built for He's built for it.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
And his messages right though, Dude, we do, specially us
as black men, need to go get checked more and
check up on things because you know, like like even
you got the money, be like, man, I ain't going
doc gonna tell me the same thing. You know, I
gotta go pay for all that stuff. That's what That's
what you know, brothers do well until we got about
(18:55):
to break.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Down and fall over.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Then we're gonna run to a doctor and try to
fix up. But I never got I never got bad
with it. I'm talking about anything. I ain't finished out
with all this money in the bank. Anything boy got.
I was chewing some the other day. Something hurt. Where
do you think that was?
Speaker 2 (19:14):
A doctor? I call that joke at a minute, while
he's staying y'all, but.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
I will figure out what the hell is going on, man.
So so yeah, we got to get better at all
of that.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
Definitely, fifteen or seventeen children to Walton Pearl, Irvin.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
What was it like being in that household Florida? Man?
A lot of it. Yeah, And I got my family hard, man,
it's one of the real real How many girls, how
many boys? We got? Ninety eight night?
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Okay, nine and eight and you all think about now
little squabble on both right right right in our own.
I still have the house that we grew up in,
this little tiny house man, in full lad, I still
have the house.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
My sister's in it.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Like, since I got so many brothers and sisters, some
of my nieces and nephews and my brothers and sisters
not doing well, I'll bring in and they live and
stay in that house.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
And you know, I sit them to school and they
do great, they're doing it. They get back on their feet.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yeah, Well, to help them get started, because my sisters
and brothers may not be any good places, but I
got to help them. I tell my older sister, even
my kids now, because they're old, I said, you do know,
anytime I spend money on you, it is spending. But
my grand baby, I said, well, I spending on them.
That's investing. That's investing. You know what I'm saying. There
(20:34):
is the difference. But but yeah, listen, I wouldn't trade
anything for how I grew up. We didn't have anything,
and I was the fifteenth so I'm one of the
younger guys, one of the younger ones. And I got
my butt whipped a lot. You know, that's just what
it is. You got your butt whooped a lot, you know.
But but yeah, man, it all worked out, growing up
with its many family members.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
I grow up.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
I remember my sister she bought a pair of cat
I remember what cat here shoes used to look like.
I played basketball cat Head dollar ninety nine from Kmart.
You be sliding all over the floor. They looked like Nike,
but the Swiss was upside down. They wasn't really Nike.
They were upside down Swish. They call them cat Head.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Now.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
My sister used to buy me and she bought me
a pair of those when I was in the ninth grade.
And then when I got drafted, she said, well, you
remember you remember some caddy I need some need a house.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
I was like, how did those cat head shoes turn
into a house? I went to the interest, but I
did get her out.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Yeah, that's doube. I'd love to hear that interest.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
Once she was asked, how are you willing to go
through the middle, you said, Michael, either I go run
that slant.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
I'm back in the ghetto, back there together.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
That's why I tell me, if you get afraid, that
that's how you beat fear.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Because you hear people say, Michael, you were fearless, nigga,
No I'm not. I'm human.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
What are you talking about? Fear is real. Courage doesn't
say I did not have fear. Courage says I have
an ability to overcome this. You see what I mean?
So I was telling people, how do you overcome that fear?
So so every time I lined up and run that
slap ud, I get ready and and everybody knows once Mike,
(22:17):
he's come, slint right Mike on.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
The slants, running a lot right there, I'm not scared
you ain't scared. That's right. A lot nigga. That joker
right there, that's the nigga that went over to somebody's sit.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Cut my finger off.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Cut my finger off, so I hear somebody some more.
Wait a minute, wait a minute, joke. I want to
cut his finger off to come hit somebody again. I'm
scared of him. You're crazy, Yeah, yeah, cut his finger.
Also he get back in the game. What and I
gotta run a slant route, yes, yeah, and he went
taking there. He had a joke of yes, that's what
(22:55):
I'm telling you, and he want to hit me. I'm scared.
I'm scared.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
I'm scared man, Yeah, and I gotta put it up
against a greater fear.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
That's where little Michael comes in. When I line up
trustes two two sixty two, because that's the check for
the slat rider said, damn, here it comes, God, damn
old finger. Cuddle right now. You hit me in the head,
right right. So so then little Michael comes in. Michael,
I know you're scared, but you're either running that slanter
(23:27):
we run back to the ghetto. Kiss my hand here,
I run that slanterer bus his ad.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
I ain't going back to the ghetto. Bro, I ain't
going back. You know, you gotta put it up against
a greater fear. But you definitely be afraid.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
And it's human nature. Let me tell you something.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
You gotta take it to the next level and try
to tell some guys in the men in the game.
There's a natural tendency of your body when you're when
you're around pressure to tighten up. Like if I strike
my hand towards your face, You're going to bleink. Even
if you say I'm not going to blink that your
body has a natural tendency. So I run a slant
route right and and my body the way you catch
(24:09):
a football, you gotta gotta have that give.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
You gotta have that gift right here to catch it.
So I tell people, They said, Michael, can you ever
catch on your body or well catch a pass in
your body? I say, yes, you do well. They said
you should always catch you your heads. I said, whoever
wrote it never did it. You see what I'm saying.
You gotta any way you can right and you catch
(24:32):
it the best way you can miss pressure.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
So if I'm running a slant route and I know
these people around me, and they know I'm running a
slant route, and I got pressure on my body's gonna
tighten up, just like when it's a natural you want
to tighten up. If I tense up, that ball hits
and fall. Or if I tense up I don't close
my hand, that ball goes through my hand. Now he
still made well when I was playing, he's still hit me.
Not that niggas got a free hit. I'm still gonna
(24:59):
hit men. But now me, I said, when I run this,
I run it, and I understand this is third down.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
This is third down. I gotta catch this to get two.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
More down, and I gotta get the mud down so
I can go get take it my money from there.
So right, so so the third out. So I'm gonna
make sure I catch this. I can't do this ball
goes through because I'm tense in everybody.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
So I said I would catch it here. In fact,
I catch it here. Even if you hit me and
knocked me out on the way to them carrying me
the sideline. I'm gonna stick the hand out of the
first down and they gonna take me to the sideline.
What I'm saying, because I'm gonna catch the ball, I'm
(25:42):
saying dwell. Don't come from up under the sheet. Wheel
me out, man. So yeah, I'm gonna get that first down.
That's why they called him to play. Yeah, you a
notarist for your hard work. Used to run rouse toll
(26:05):
you puked?
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Is that the same mentality that you like, you say
not going back to the Ghetto'm gonna work my ass.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I'll make sure I'm strong by the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
That was my victory. Now think about this, and I
was so happy. Eric Allen just got in into the
Hall of Fame because I used to tell people I
had to go through gold jack I went through gold
jackets a lot of my gold ring. That means I
played one on one all the way around the for
Dion sharing this, Dalel Green, Rod Woodson, a Nias, William
(26:35):
Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson and now Eric Allen.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
These are the dude that followed me all.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Around on the football everywhere. When I went to the bathroom,
we were right there taking You're gonna get back.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
In this game. Let's fix this up. Okay, let's go.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
You see what I'm saying. These jokers, now you know
they those were real. Those were real dude right there.
I just mentioned real dude. So I take pridy man.
You know what's so funny, dude, all of them, all
of them, we're the best of friends now and they're crazy.
How that works out?
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Dyl Green. I'll go speak with him at an event
that he'll do. You know, Derek does these church events.
I love him, and then I gotta come speak. I'll
be like, damn, darl d these perfect dudes. Man, when
I'm sitting here talk with deon standard Daryl Green. So
I have to come up with stuff. I say, you know,
come some bullshit. Yeah, God, God, God, God, God loves
(27:34):
all his kids. And I say, hey, if you can
and I couldn't, if you could do it right, do
it like them going because they perfect. They ain't never,
they ain't never drink, smoke too, don't even hang around
anybody that dude. But I did you see what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
So I say, do it right, if you could do
it like them, But just if you make a few
mistakes like me, He'll still be there for you.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
You see what I mean.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
I'm trying to incorporate all my bad with all that
goodness and make him work for the good or the
people that were speaking to it. That's how you have
to take that?
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Remember timcar Oh yeah, I remember, tell if till my boy,
my boy, man, tell Tim played with right, right right?
Tim played with.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Dion and and oh my god, with Dion, and we
got Alexander Wright. This dude, fastest dude in the world
run a four one nine squat five hundred pounds.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
You know.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
And I said, oh my god, it got something. We
were playing Atlanta and and and we he's so fast.
Dion had to go to him, and we just kept
running them deep, running them deep, and and and Deon
was just running with him. And I was over there
with Tim MCA and he were just running him deep.
I said, Tim, we got d On off Methadon was
(28:58):
running back.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Over there to me, y'all playing this ain't no track me.
Y'all ain't gonna even throw that joke of the ball listen.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
I said, I wasn't had like ten or twelve back
catches on, Tim Man, I was killing him, man, Yeah, yeah,
till my boy too many.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
How did y'all get Dian to defect then come on
over to Dallas after the frisk? Go right?
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Oh no, no, that was me. I recruited DM. I
called him Jerry talked to me about it, Jay, because
Jerry asked us. He asked me about it. He said,
we have a chance maybe to get Dion Sandy's. He
brought me in the office. I said what he said?
He said, yeah, he said, I'm been telling his people.
I said, all right, you told these people. I'm I'm
gonna talk to him. I'm gonna call him right right right.
(29:39):
So I called him, and and you know he had
he he was talking about it.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
I said, man, listen, he said, man, Man, Sam friends
booming over here. Man.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
And I knew it was for him because he had
left Atlanta, you know, Atlanta going to San Francisco. Yeah,
that was big. I said, Now that jump you made
my verbatim work. Was that jump you made when you
saw Atlanta to San Francisco? I said, whatever, that jump
was multiplied by team.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
When you come to the Colvin, they's gonna be a
whole different thing.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
He said, really do. I said, no doubt. Man, we
ain't got to keep beating up on each other. Let's
go beat these other.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Right right right there. So so so I told him,
I said, I said, hey, listen, I told you I'm gonna
set something up for you when you come on in,
you come in town and set some up. I gotta
set this thing up at the club called Guingamarage helped
me get Dion here. We brought them all, like all
of them weary.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
That was who we buddy. You can because Max talk
about it too. Max said, it's a whole Max Burna.
Maxwell say, it's a whole bunch of y'all that came
up around the area, were coming up. That's play professional sports.
It's a whole Florida ball players, baseball players, basketball.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Florida come up in that era around the same time. Yeah,
it was a whole bunch of y'all and all from Florida,
bad boy. And that's why when we go back to
talking about like what what it was and playing with
the Cowboys and playing with Dion and Emit and that man,
it was that was everything because some reason, I don't know,
we just thought down Florida didn't get what it deserved
(31:15):
and and do there was a gust of players that
came through Florida lately, and then you know that was
that was that that just yeah, the terrorized terrorized.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
So before you gots before you stole DM from the
forty nine ers, y'all got a legendary slap boxing incident
mid game.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
No, that was that was Rising. Yeah, you know what,
that was my fault.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
And that's right.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Let me give you all that too, though, And that's
why and and and okay, you know about the rising
and they was boys too, right, right, and then and
they went and they went south with each other. But
but and then even when he went to San Francisco
and they had gone they're going to super Bowl, him
and Jerry got into something because Dion went out on
the Monday or two, and I and everything. And see,
(32:01):
I knew all about that, and so I was using
all that in my recruiting tour.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
I said, listen, dude, I said, listen, man, you go
out on Monday. I said what I said, I'm.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Joking, I'm gonna go with.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
You Rising, right. That ain't Florida niggas. Yeah, I ain't
Florida boys, said you and me, we definitely yeah, you
should have been with the video. So come on, man,
you know, we'll I said, we'll never you know, we
will never have any issue because we boys.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
And we don't and and we're the best of friends.
That's my boy, man, that's my boy. Yeah, that's how
I got him over here. That's a bad joke. I
was tired of that, joker man. Come on over here,
let's play together. Let's start beating up on each other.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
But you eighty four to eighty seven national championships in
eighty seven, three times All American UH.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
Eighty five and eighty six AC.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
I love the acc and touchdowns to school records with receptions,
yards and TVs.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
That's what I put them on on the map. Now.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
I told y'all that On was a rookie at Florida State.
Freshman in Florida State. He coming and I said, I
got this joker man. It's all the hype we were
early on in the Miami game. We're playing for it,
I said. Told Venne said, i'mnna get him on the
out and up testa Verdi. Yeah, I'm gonna get him
on the out and up.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
I said.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Trust he wants to jump this, he wants to intercept
the ball. And I ran there out. It was beautiful too.
I saw him run by and I said, got.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
You turned up my waiting he threw then it threw
the ball. I'm looking at the ball, looking at dealer,
I said, come on ball, Come on, come on ball.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
This joker ran down the ball, ran me in the
ball down, push me down, jumped.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Up with one hand, caught the ball and was running
the other way. I was living down the college. This
joker right with.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
My football the other way that they put that, they
put that pick They put a pick up it on
sports Hiller State. So I told him that was his
coming out party. So he never beat me in college.
He did have, you know, beat so it want some battles.
He didn't win the war, but he did with it
to a battlem.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
How did you land on number forty seven as a receiver?
Making players? But number forty seven? That was wild man?
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Right right, dude, But listen, I ain't want that forty
seven dogs point right, dude, I ain't want that.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
I don't want I heard forty seven? What man? Listen,
let me tell you how Jimmy got me with this.
They put a lineback and receiver. Man, Jimmy, I never
thought about it like that.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
I don't come by it right, right, Jimmy, Because we
had just lost Edie Brown and Stanley Shakespeare. And I remember, Jimmy,
Jimmy said to me, because I went in I said, coach,
I don't know about this number. Forty seven, man, I said,
you know, it's just doesn't seem like a cool Nobody said,
I want to know if I could switch it to seven? Right, yeah,
I really, it's true story, I said, I want to
(34:47):
know if I can switch it to seven.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
He said, Michael, let me tell you what I said.
When I'm on that field and.
Speaker 6 (34:55):
He throw you that football, man, you come running down
the field, you look like a seven for the seven
lending in the zone. I swear said. I was like, really,
he said yeah, I said, with some boards come landing
in the end zone. Boy, I said, I love.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
To see that. I said, coach, really, okay okay, walked
down like yeah, okay, that's dope. Man.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
I swear when we got to the Cowboys years later,
we were having some drinks talking about the coach saying,
I couldn't.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Believe you wrote that story.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
But I made that forty seven stick though. What I
made for they come from eight eight, you know, day
Because when you come to Dallas, if if they wanted,
if you're going to if they're considering you to be
a great receiver, number one receiver, top receiver, they want
to give you. They wanted to give you eight eight,
you know, and I meant we drew about it. I
(35:55):
really didn't even want I thought that was a hell
of a bird.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
But Drew was so great and she was like, no, no, Michael,
I want you to wear it.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
And and I said, I'm gonna just try to do
what you did in this number, you know, and it
was so prophetic and fitting. He said, no, no, don't
do what I did. Do better, he said, do better.
And we've always held on to that, you know, give
it the dead you're dads and they see. But but
(36:23):
but even the ways you can go about finding out
if someone's worthy wearing it. So so if I'm in
a room, say your dad's Brian, and and I'm in
a room and we're talking about this young dude, young
deads you maybe Jerry Jones, I'm sitting there talking to dead, Hey,
you think you're prepared to wear this limb and.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
Do what you have to do? Dead, especially dude like there,
because they like what people shit. We look UK people
should because we were coming up here.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Yeah, man, we play a light, you know, because I
was the dude then and he was mimicking all the man,
Come on, man, I can wear that, can wear certain
things people will do that will give them away. I
wouldn't make sure all three of us is in the
room and I'm looking at deads. Jerry's right here, I'm
looking at dead. I can look at some dudes and
(37:12):
I talked to some dudes, did this with some dudes.
And now look at me. You know, Michael, I can
do it. And then look at Jerry. I'm telling you all,
I can do it. He's not the one. You're not
the one. See if you look at the mission, not
the money, you get it. You dad only looks at
the mission. I could do it. Won't even look at
(37:34):
the money. That tells you he wears. I you see
what I'm saying. I need a man on the mission.
The money will follow.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
The mission like that Uncle Luke and the two Live crew.
Any any boat stories that you can share.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Not noting that I'm sharing over not me.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
I wouldn't mind sharing if y'all ain kissing me time
no real killer, talk about Kille. You're talking about Tiller.
I ain't no real killer. I love it, you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
So how how how inspirational was he around the program?
What kind of do a mentor was he at that time?
Speaker 2 (38:20):
For you? Luke was a good dude.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Because Luke, honestly, what you gotta remember that that was
a while goo before guys making any kind of money
in college and everything, and and and remember us coming
through Miami and how that all came about. You know,
that was how Snellenberger going into core Gables, Florida, University
of Miami and saying, who had been losing forever, saying
(38:44):
I can turn this program around if you let me
go into the ghettos of Florida and bring those players out.
So so you know that that that's what they did.
They brought all us in. So Luke was one of
the first brothers that really came around us with money
and every thing and a lifestyle and showing us things.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
And he's always been great. You know, he's always been
great helping.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Us with business anything because he was doing it before
all of us, you know what I mean, making sure
that we stayed straight. So yeah, man, he's been he's
been a great, a great resource for us.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
You skipped your senior year. It's nice.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
NFL Draft select eleven to the my Boys, the Cowboys.
You finally made it getting mama the ghetto.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
How did that feel? That felt great?
Speaker 4 (39:27):
Now?
Speaker 2 (39:27):
You know, let's see this right now.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Because I skipped my senior year, that means I back then,
you I graduated early.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Really yeah, well you couldn't. I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
You couldn't go into the NFL when I came out
unless you graduated.
Speaker 4 (39:43):
I didn't do that.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Yeah, yeah, that's how Bernie Coles. I got him, Bernie Coles.
I really graduated after the South sophomore year. And and
and why I did it so I can control my draft.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
That's how you control the draft. So so so I.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Don't know if you guys just saw Sterling and Shannon
was on, and Sterling was telling Shannon that, oh no, no,
Green Bay was trying to draft Michael Irvin with the
seventh pick, and and and so since I was I
graduated as a.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Junior, could if you didn't want to go right, and
they have to call me before you draft me. Now
I'm the poet, broken, broke joker in the wall. You
know I'm broke cause I don't know what I'm over
here negotiating with the big boys like I new something, right,
so he goes business was my degree is being o
business management organization. So so so I figured, okay, I
(40:31):
got it. I got it.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
I want to make sure I go play in New
York la A Dallas. I ripped. My dad was a
big cowboy fan and wanted to play in Dallas. So
I wanted to control this and I needed to get
out anyway, because all my brothers and sisters, you know,
they were waiting on me anyway. They were like, we
ain't got four years. You know, we get out here
(40:53):
right now, ain't We can't. We can't hold this thing
any wait. You know, you know, you know how it is.
They all waity. So so I went to school and
we don't need go home. I did all summer schools,
stayed and graduated. We would get twenty five dollars a weekend,
fifteen off the top head to go back home to mom.
You know, so you had ten dollars every weekend. So yeah,
(41:13):
I wasn't going to stay around long. So when you
graduate early and skip, I graduated. When you graduate early
and the team calls you like Green Bay called with
the seventh pick, and there's somebody who would like to
drift you.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
I was like, left to school.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
I'm a brother from.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Florida, and I shouldn't be going to Green Bay, you
see what I mean. And I just know temperature ain't right.
I mean, weatherwise and brother wise, I ain't right, both
sides right. So so no, my whole family started saying,
no way, green Bay and then Dallas.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
Dallas didn't even call.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
They just drafted me, you know, And I knew they
would because Jimmy, you, Jimmy had already told me he
was coming. Jimmy told me. He said, listen, I know
you graduated early. He said, Dallas is going to draft you.
He says, none of those Shenanikans with Dallas. I said, no, Coach,
I want to play for Dallas.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
I want to. He said, I'm just letting you know
because I'm gonna I'll be joining you probably the next year.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
So he let me know that. He let me know,
but I had. It's so funny, I had. North Turner
was there that weekend. North Turner was the offensive receivers
coach for the Rams. They wanted to draft me. I
wanted to play in New York or l a who
was the top.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
Truck for that time with the Rams, who was the
quarterback with the Rams, who was the quarterack.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
Henry Ellert was the receiver. Who wasn't Jim Ever. I
saw Jim wait. I saw him a couple of couple
of years ago. Here Jim Ever see him and his
wife because they do this, they do some things here
in La.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
Now. He said, you blew my rings l A. Yeah,
I would have. I know, by God is good. God
knows we.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Might not be ready for I tore up Dallas pretty good.
I don't know that I need to. I don't know
what i'd have made it out of La I made.
I don't know if i'd have made it.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
It works out, it worked out perfectly. It worked out perfectly.
Speaker 5 (43:13):
The triplets ekmn you and MS Smith. What's your friendship
like back then? And is it still the same today?
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (43:21):
It is absolutely still the same. And that's what's so great, man,
I promise I'll tell you this. We never had an argument.
We've never had a falling out, We've never had any
kind of issue. I'm talking about even when we were playing,
you know what I mean. It's just it's it's all
been great. I don't know, it just we didn't start
(43:42):
out doing this triplet thing, but somebody kind of tagged it.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
As we went along. But but yeah, it was what
it was.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
And I'm gonna tell you the one thing that made
it so great once we got it rolling, you know,
because we didn't have it rolling at first, and since
we took so many whoopings at first, we used to
come back and have those team meetings, you know, like,
you know, lost five straight games and you want to
have a team meeting, and stuff got to stop, and
we're gonna make sure. Don't matter what plays they call, Joko,
we're gonna win. And you still go get your head
(44:11):
kicked in, you know what I mean. He was like, damn, damn,
this is just different. This is different. But when we
got it going, the standard was the standard, and we
were able to keep it going. If anybody came around
this team you didn practice like this, you got to go.
It was like, hey, I don't need you can't be
(44:33):
my friend. If you can't help me win, you got
to go. That's just the bottom line. And that's how
you kept it going. And to this day, think about it,
to this day, so many of those guys, see all
of those guys, we're still pretty successful. Is still moving,
pretty successful, and we're still very close.
Speaker 5 (44:50):
A lot of people don't talk up again eight minutes
perhaps when they talk about quarterbacks. But I say he
was more of a football player than the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yeah, you know what I'm saying. He was tough as nails.
Tough dude.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
Troy got sacked eleven times in a game, eleven times
in the NFL game. I mean you had Riggie White,
Jerome Brown, Clyde Simmons self join a bust in his butt,
and he kept getting back, never got on his line,
(45:21):
He just kept going.
Speaker 2 (45:22):
Man, he was tough as I don't know what. Man. Yeah,
they don't give my quarterback near the type of credit
that he deserves. But he's one of the greatest ever players.
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Jimmy Johnson from my home time as well.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Yeah that's right, coach, So yeah, that's my dude though,
cause Jimmy really Jimmy. When they gave him put him
in the Ring of Honor, I was standing in the
back of him. This is after he was getting his
Hall of Fame ring and everything. I couldn't stop crying, man,
I couldn't stop crying as I watched him, because you know,
Howard recruited me. Howard Snellenberger recruited me and then Jimmy
(45:58):
came in my first year and I had just lost
my father. Coming out of high school, Dude, I was lost.
I was rambunctious, marble. I wouldn't taking no nothing, no nothing.
I told everybody in school, I'm coming to get somewhere,
come playing around. So the first day they I'm getting
the fights, you know, busting jokers in the head over
at the lunch table. I had never seen the lunch
(46:20):
table like that. And then these jokers messing with me,
busting them in the head. I gotta go see coach,
coaches like Michael, you know, we can't be fighting. We're
not gonna be fighting teammates. We got a lot of
people to fight. And then two days later and have
broken another dude jaw.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
And a fight squint in the locker room, and your
coaches like, listen, listen, trying not to I'm just trying
to be patient with you here, you know, right right
down right on them. So I was just thinking, like.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
Man, that joker should have sent me home, and he didn't,
and if he had, we not we wouldn't have been here,
you know. So so yeah, those times were man, because
so coach Johnson's my guy, man, He was really patient
with me. He really patient and got it right. Let
me tell you what he do used to do, used
to do because he knew all of us came from
the ghetto. Every Thursday, I tell people this, Every Thursday night,
(47:11):
Coach Johnson would make all of us they grew came
from ghettos meat. He would always give us whoppers, a
big Max or something, you know, give us some food.
But we have to sit there and come up with plans.
What are we planning on doing after football? And talk
football in that room we did every Thursday. And I
think back now and I look around, like the dudes
(47:33):
that were in their room, and how many dudes.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
Are still successful? And I said, wow, I owe that
to him.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
You know, because we were coming from places where you
didn't see people plan those things.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
And he knew that. So yeah, he was good about that.
Speaker 4 (47:47):
Emma Smith, how special was that was different?
Speaker 2 (47:50):
That was special? But my first year comes in Dallas,
I picked him up. He's my roommate. He has on
these mc hammer type outfit with the weird man. You know.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
It just clicked on me the other day we're watching
the pictures in the documentary. I was like, Oh, this
joker came in with his mc hammer outfit.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
But now I dig it. I could get it now
because he was saying, you can't touch this, and you
couldn't touch that joke with him. It will be in
a meeting sleep like I'm wake him up.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
He kept man with me and and him he'll show
up Sunday rush for two hundred yards?
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Like how did this jogger rush for two hundred yard?
He was sleep in the meetings right next week, that's y'all.
Let him sleep.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
He gonna get the two hund don't worry and let
him sleep. But yeah, he's a different dude. One of
the greatest things though, you guys get it. We get
to talk about like we got our own journeys. But
I think one of the greatest things, like you can't
tell Dion's story, you can't tell Troy's story. You can't
tell him and story without one. You know, we got
a chance to witness that journey. Em It said to
(48:58):
me the first night, think about this, our first night
for the first game we all played together and it
was my room with roommates. I was like, all right,
young buck, what you're playing on doing with you? What's
your goals, because this is what coach always what's your goal?
He said to me, Well, I'm gona becoming the old
time leading rush you and we're gonna win the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Dude, I had won four games in two years. Choke
up four games, get some sleep. We're talking about tomorrow.
I had won four games in two years, three and thirteen,
one and fifty And here is Joker come in here
talking about that stuff. And he did it. He did it.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
You know that that that story I'll hold on too.
I watched him do it. I watched him every morning,
Monday morning, go get his massage. Just you know I
was still hungover. I ain't gonna get the massage. You
see what I mean. He took care of his body,
did all the little things to get that time in
that I should have been doing. So So yeah, he
(49:57):
earned that that I'm proud of.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
See.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
He played with ready to shoulder for a while too, didn't.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
We played in that game right. Let me tell you
how that came about. Were because because he and I
we always him twenty two, I was eight eight.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
We double trouble. Before we go on the football field,
we always go hit our chest, hit our heart, double trouble.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
That means by land or by air, we're about to
whoop y'all. Hands don't matter. If you want to stack
the line of scrimmage and stop the run, stop the land,
we're gonna we're gonna bomb you out. So if you
want to back up and stop the pass, we're gonna
run you out. Either way, we're gonna get right right
pick your poison. So we would always do that prior
(50:37):
to the game. So one time earlier, I had ribs
cartless damage. We're playing Washington and Day all green, and
the coverage was on me and he's like, Michael, I
was like, you know, because you guys know the worst.
Speaker 4 (50:50):
Oh, it's the worst.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
You cannot breathe you anything feels like your ribs cr
and way and hurt us.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
He said, mate, you can go. He said, I heard
on you say they don't know that. You just sit
your ass out there. I run.
Speaker 3 (51:08):
This was said, you just stay out there, they don't
know you hurt. So I'm sitting out in the line
of it, but it's hurting. And and and we had
this kind of commitment. So we were in that New
York game and we need this last game of the year.
We needed this game because we needed to buy to
get ready to make the run, to try to make
the run, and image out there hurts his shoulder and
I was like, he was like, I don't know, because
(51:30):
they take him off the field.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
I said, can you go? He said, I don't know.
I don't know, man, I said, they don't know that.
Just stand back then, right right, hey, I guess nor
forgot that his shoulder was out.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
What's coming? Forgot that showed us out the coordinator earning
and they handed him the ball and man and he started.
He just started. It was one of the greatest things
I've ever seen, one of the greatest things. I told
him that after after the got some man that's gutting it.
Speaker 4 (52:02):
Out performance what he rushed for.
Speaker 2 (52:05):
I don't remember what he rushed for, but I remember
he got a lot of man, Remember that he tore
him up. Though he won the game for us. He
won that game for us, and we needed it.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
When you read this headline, officer admits to paying to
try to have Dallas Cowboys star killed.
Speaker 4 (52:21):
Who comes to your mind.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
I'm glad that Joe at hired and undercover. I wouldn't
be here, you know what I mean? But but you
know that that story, what that was was, you know
what what happened when I got caught in when I
was in that situation in the in the hotel room.
Speaker 2 (52:40):
You know, this girl I was seeing, she had a friend.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
Her friend was married to his police officer, and and
they would come to the hotel and we would be
hanging out doing things. And then I think when it
all went down, he found out this was an a
police officer named Johnny.
Speaker 2 (52:59):
Johnny.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
Then he found out and that that this girl was coming,
and of course we were doing things, and and he
didn't want I guess he didn't want everybody to hear
about it. So he figured he take me out, there'll
be no case, and so he tried to hire a
hit man, but he hired an undercover.
Speaker 2 (53:20):
And I was in court.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
I was in court when they stopped the court and
brought me in the back and told me that this
police officer had hired a hitman, you know, and that
they arrested him. And you know, they gave me for
getting caught in the hotel room with women and the drugs.
(53:42):
I got four years probation. He tried to kill me.
He had two years I think in jail. So I'm
gonna still be on probation when he get out of jail.
So so so I can't be around any undesirables all
that stuff because I'm on probation. First thing I did
was when you know, after by two years, I was
getting ready, I snuck back to the prison.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
I got to go talk to this joker. He's about
to get out.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
They tried to put me in jail for going to
jail to talk to him.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
I went apologize. You know, I'm like, well, you're about
to let the joke out. I should go apologize or
he put another hit on me, you know what I'm saying.
It was kind of a mixtake, but I really did
want to apologize to him. You know, I didn't mean,
you know, like I guess, I took his woman and
you know, and they wanted to take me out for it.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
It was embarrassed. But I was like, man, I didn't know.
They didn't, you know, tell me, tell me. And yeah,
that was hard. That was hard. But when I went
to here go see him, man to dude was crying
like a baby. Man, I've never seen that. That that
touched me to see how he was crying. He just said, man,
(54:51):
I've been praying. That's crazy, he said, I've been praying
and praying and praying and praying. They just want apologize
to you so much, he said, I've been praying for you, man,
praying that you come. I can't believe that you and
I ain't tell nobody I was going. I didn't tell
anybody because but but the chief that was watching over
the jail, and it still got back to my judge
(55:12):
and they were trying to throw me in jail because
I went to see him. I was like, dude, I
wanted to make amends with the man. What happens if
if we don't make amends and he's getting out? Y'all
you see what I mean? So so yeah, yeah, yeah,
that was that was crazy.
Speaker 5 (55:28):
Helped Lee Cowboys and Super Bowl wins in nineteen ninety three,
ninety four, ninety six.
Speaker 2 (55:35):
Which one was the sweetest? Everybody in high school? Right
right right? Everybody? Everybody always asks which one? Y'all know,
nothing can ever topped that first one. Now I don't
get what they say, Kay, nothing ever talked the first
one because it's the first one. You know, all them dreams.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
That you've had all the time, I'm going to be
realized in the first one, and the first one was
right here in La.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
It just happened to be the right time. Man.
Speaker 3 (56:05):
It was man, we were crashing I think a the
Face party, a Babyface party, a baby Face party. They
were doing Award show Man. We were so loud and
they were like, excuse me, you guys, kind of be
down quiet in the back. We're trying to have a
party here. So we are the party. What are you're
talking about?
Speaker 2 (56:22):
Here? We are. We were out ahead, you know what
I'm saying. We were out of here. Man.
Speaker 3 (56:26):
It was nothing, nothing like that first one here. Man,
you we walked hard. We walked out on the field
at the start of that Super Bowl in Pasadena. You
know how you talk about, man, all these games, they're
just games. They're just games. I can play anywhere, it
doesn't matter. But you when you walk in a Super Bowl,
it's a difference. It's not just a game, you know
(56:48):
what I mean. It's the crowd with crazy.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
Man.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
I was like, oh shit, like you got it. It
takes your breath away. So there's nothing like that first one.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
Nothing.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
When you line up against one of the best beats,
what you named earlier. What's going through your mind as
you get your feet sut handset and looking back in
towards the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Hmm. Now, it depends on how I purposed out this game.
You see.
Speaker 3 (57:13):
If I if I'm playing somebody, if I want to
beat him, I'll attack his weakness like you know. But
but if I if I'm playing somebody that I think
I'm gonna play again, or I may see twice a
year because he's in my division, then I may attack
his strength. You see, I attack his weakness to beat him.
I'm an attack his strength to break them.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
You see.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
If I'm gonna see you again, I want you to know.
Like say, you're a physical cornerback and you like to
try to be physical. Okay, now now I'm gonna come
and show you I'm out physical in you. So where
do you go?
Speaker 2 (57:45):
Now? You see what I mean?
Speaker 3 (57:46):
So my thought process is not always to play it's
the man. I gotta beat the man, so I'm thinking
through him. If it's if it's Darryl Green who's so
fast and quick, I'm just out muscle stronger.
Speaker 2 (58:02):
But if I get a bigger guy, then I can
out quick.
Speaker 3 (58:05):
The dim became a problem them was a problem because
he was big and fast, you know what I mean,
strong and and and and then I have to come
up with more ways, and then he has all when
you see them, when he's trying to put one leg back,
he'll put one leg back when he comes to press.
Because you can't beat me with both legs, Evra. You
can't line up like this and I like this and
(58:31):
you stop me. You see, I put in too much working.
I understand this is football, but we are still incorporating
laws of inertia. Like a moving for moving object, hidden
the still object. Give me the same weight and size
and move the still object. So okay, okay, I just
gotta make sure I'm the moving object. I'm the moving
(58:52):
object because I know the snapcount Blue eighteen, said Hud.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
I know it's one. I know it's two. For I'm
a move before you. I know it. So now when I.
Speaker 3 (58:59):
Said here and you got your legs like this right here, chance,
it's impossible for you to stop me because now I'm
the moving object. If I hit right in you, I
should move you. If I'm two ten and you're two ten,
I hit you in the middle, I should move you.
But I'm not gonna hit you in the middle. I'm
gonna hit off that right shoulder. I'm gonna hit off
that left shoulder. So I'm gonna take my two ten
(59:21):
through your one oh five. It's impossible like this. I'm here,
I'm there, I'm gone. So the starts doing this. So
we mean force force with force right here in the
line of scrimmage, I'm saying. So then I have to rethink. Okay,
how am I gonna beat this joker?
Speaker 2 (59:37):
Now, you know?
Speaker 3 (59:38):
So it's always demand that I'm thinking about the game.
I'll deliver how I'm gonna deliver it over him. I'm
gonna either beat him, I'm gonna break them, but his
ass gonna lose.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
So I'm gonna ask you this.
Speaker 5 (59:51):
Now, you said receivers, they got ten different ways releasing
off the line.
Speaker 3 (59:55):
Now that none of those work. That's stepping back and
all that. All this, none of that ship work because
you're letting the man win. His job is to throw
up the timing of the play. You're giving it to
him right now by stepping back. Ain't nobody designed to
play where you stepped back across. But that's just Instagram bluff,
(01:00:16):
Instagram star. It's all he is a bad words. You
do all that you want and and and he's still there.
So that was all a good thing. But my big
boy about to hit your quarterback in the mouth. You
still gotta calm this way. So all of that is no.
I'm going right now.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
Who is someone who was a tough dB off the line,
physical that we wouldn't think of.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
Who's someone will?
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Who is joker name James Hasty? Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
Yeah? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
Strong that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
He was so strong And I thought this this was
this first time niggas messed with ever messed with my
head because I was like Eagles. He played for the Chiefs.
They chief man, oh man, I got, damn man. It
came off when the dude I got. You know, you
could feel when somebody street God, damn he's strong. Yeah
(01:01:21):
it was Jame's Hasty. That dude. Now if he backs up,
I can kill him. But he knew that. But he yeah,
he knew that he was. He was He was very strong,
strong stone.
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
Du that stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:01:35):
Football. Football is scary. But you know, I've been carted off.
I got undercut and couldn't fill my legs and been
carted off and I just had back surgery. But you
have to suffer cervical spine age in nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
I guess the Eagles was.
Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
Carted off the field, Philly fans chair and ships showing
no class talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
That, you know what. I knew that I would never
play again. Now.
Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
I tried in that moment.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, because leaving him, leaving that day, man,
I was playing with one the boys and everything, and
I kept saying, we'll play when I get back. And
I remember even saying it in my head man somewhere,
and I don't know why I said it, but I said,
I said, God, man, God, when I when I finished
playing football, I'm gonna get right with God, you know
what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
And I spoke it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
I spoke it, and God was like, I guess you said, oh,
oh that's been the problem.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Well let me get this out the way, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
And I'm telling you, man, I thought about that when
I laid on the God damn, because I was playing
my son. I said, we'll play when I get back.
I said, I guess there will be no play when
I get back. Dude, and my leg, you know, because
remember they were telling me I'm crossing my leg and
I didn't know the severity of it. What made me
know that it was because I couldn't really feel anything
(01:02:49):
was when I looked up and I saw when you
look up your ce don over me doing this praying, praying,
And when I saw his face, then I got scared.
I was like, oh, you know, because I saw I
saw fear in his face, and I got worried. And
(01:03:10):
then they took me. They took me in, they took
me to the hospital. Jerry wrote to the hospital with me.
You know, I'm gonna tell you something about the Eagles owner.
He came into the hospital room and he was, you know,
he was visibly shaking, His lips were shaken, and he apologized.
He was trying to apologize for for what the fans
(01:03:30):
had done. And I was like, you know, I told
him I wanted to kind of give him some relief
because I felt it on him, you know, And I said, listen,
I said, I understand. And so those fans were not
cheering and understand the severity of my injury. They were,
you know, here the cowboys whooping that ass. So you
(01:03:53):
know what I mean, I understood what it was. It's
so funny and Philly fans. Now I go to when
I'm in Philly. You know that just they just they
just they like me. They're real big fans, passionate fans.
You know, I'm doing the game Green Bay in Philadelphia,
playing in Philly, and I'm doing TV. Every time I
get ready to talk, I split the down little song
(01:04:15):
Dallas for.
Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
Life right right there.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
I'm like, Dallas ain't even here, going to commercial and
I'll go where I'm talking. What the hell is up? Yo?
This is Green Bay in Philadelphia. What was the Dallas though?
Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
They said, Michael, we don't like each other, but the
one thing we can agree on and we.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Both hate Dallas more. And I was like, all right, right,
so you know, yeah, it's just what that is, man,
It's just the passion of the fan base.
Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
Well, quick hitters. First thing to come to mind. Let
us know, you play with Troy k mean, your entire career.
If you would have had an opportunity to play with
one more quarterback, what quarterback would that have been?
Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Damn Marine? Damn Marine. I wanted to play with damn Marine. Know.
Man in Miami, in Miami. In Miami, Man, they drafted
James Pruitt. I think the year before me, I was like,
they're not gonna do it back to back.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
But but but also when I think back, that's best.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
It's best. Somebody asked me one time, what was it
like the night before games and all of that with
the girls when you're winning Super Bowls? I said it
was great. Man.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
I was focused, like I didn't have any problem with girls,
you know, the night before a game, I'm about winning.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
I was focused unless it was a I N. And
they said what was I N?
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
I said, the Columbia or Brazilian and Italian and want
all the things they got in Miami. You know what
I mean?
Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
I feel it, son, it might.
Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
Have worked that good. Then I didn't play around all them.
You know what I'm saying. They'll keep you up. Who's
your goat? And where sport? Football?
Speaker 3 (01:06:01):
Yes, honestly, to go to football, I would give it
to Jed Rice. I called Jed Rice Jesus in Cleets.
You know what I mean. That's the joker I had
in my locker and I wanted to chase all my life.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Man. I just thought that he was. He was phenomenal, physical,
physically phenomenal and to play for eighteen years. I only
really played about nine years.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
Jerry got to play eighteen years.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
He used to me, Yeah, used to me. I would
call the greatest.
Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
My god, one album you could listen to on repeat.
Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
I'm one of them old fashioned dudes. I'm Quiet before
the Storm. The only thing I could listen all day
on repeat is Old Al Green, Old Al Green. You
know That's what I listened to, um doing a rehab,
all that everything and all that old Quiet Storm.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
Before I leave on leash. Hell, so that's what I
listened to even going to the game. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
You know it comes from when when we were younger,
back in then. You know, where you're sitting in the
car playing the eight track tape, just you know, going
over your rap. I'm trying to come up with a rap.
Things I'm gonna say to the girl, call that your rap,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
So, so yeah, that that was my That was me.
Top five receivers all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
I get people all the time talking about this because
they called more passes and everything. I always tell people,
you know, I think Jared Wright's the greatest player of
all time. I think Jared Wriight's the greatest receiver all
all the time. But as soon as you finished with that,
e and right, you better start with the m and Michael.
That's what I'm talking about. You Jerry one YouTube. I'm
(01:07:49):
gonna go. I would go, man h, I thought you
talked physically gifted or actually played with they did on
the field, because physically gifted there was You start looking
at a mega tron, you start looking at Andre Johnson.
I'm talking about think about this, Andre Johnson, Andre Johnson.
(01:08:10):
I look at when I'm in the Hall of Fame,
I look around and see Jed Wrights, I see his quarterbacks.
I'm in there with my quarterback, you know. I see
Stirling Shop, I see Brett Fahr. I look at Andre
Johnson and I be like, damn, a'd you get in
this room? Your quarterback ain't coming, His quarterbacks ain't coming.
You see done that. Those are different kind of dudes
right there. Andre Johnson got in this room, and his
(01:08:32):
quarterback is known. His nickname is the pick six That Shop.
That's a pick six.
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
You know. He threw pick sixes up. So that's how
bad that dude is.
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
When you're talking about physically gifted, dude, now you're talking
about results in physical gifts. Then you got to put
in a random moss you know, Random Moss, so those
that's just.
Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
That size, that big. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
I'm gonna tell you a guy I love, I would
throw in one of my top five all time is
Andre Reid. Whole body going, you know, I put and
I'm throwing Andre Reed right.
Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
Andre Reid was a.
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
Bad man inside outside, prior to what what they got
out and what they're doing now. So yeah, I would
probably Jerry Rice and putting me in there.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
I want to go boy that boy, bad boy Untre
Johnson such a bad boy, just just a bad boy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
But but I'll go Random Moss, Andre Reid, and m
Andre was just he didn't have the thing of things
around him to get him to where he's winning championships
and everything and all that you put t o in there,
I put in there?
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
What what? What? What do you rate?
Speaker 5 (01:09:48):
Lar fis Jeral because I was a big fan of
laughing man to catch everything, everything. Everything. I was glad
Larry got Kirk Warner later. But but there is another
guy that was a phenomenal, phenomenal receiver, and Chris Carter.
There's so many of them, it's so many, but so
many people do different things. Like Chris Carter is not
(01:10:10):
going to outrun anybody. But I think Chris Carter got
some of the best hands you've guaranteed on third downs.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
Guaranteed best hands in the world, man, And he understood
the game in a great way.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
Ranked these three, m j Kobe, Lebron.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
This is a hell of a debate, now, y' y'all, y'all,
y'all get into this all the time, and people get
into this all this, and I think Jordan is a phenomenal,
phenomenal player, and certainly all that he has gotten he deserves.
But when you look at Lebron and what Lebron has done,
even cold and Kobe is a great player, phenomena, but
you look at Lebron and what he has done, Lebron
(01:10:45):
has changed things in a big way. Michael All, Michael
joined accomplished and all he's done, and all he did,
he couldn't get his own owner to extend Numb another year.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
Like, dude, come on, man, is what are you doing here?
What is that?
Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
Lebron came in a different way and has done a
different thing.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
And now Lebron has some control. He changed the business basketball, right,
It's not just dribbling his business acremen incredible. You gotta
give him some tips.
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
I remember they were arguing that he wouldn't with him
and cobD was in the All Star Game, right, and
Kobe wanted to go one on one with him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
One on one.
Speaker 3 (01:11:26):
You know, we want for Mail to show up and
take over. A for Male showed me got the but
that wasn't his game plan. He's like, I don't have
to show up and take over. I really want to
take over. So instead of beating down the top players
like a for Mail, he was like, no, I'm trying
to partner with these guys so we could do bigger
and better things. We can have more control. Lebron got
(01:11:49):
way more control than Michael Jordan never.
Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
Had over this whole thing.
Speaker 3 (01:11:54):
So we started talking about goat boy. I mean on
the court, you can say on the court, you could
say Michael Jordan's was the go of the court.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
You're gonna say Lebron James is to go.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
It's in on the court and of the court, and
Lebron of the court because what he has done in basketball,
he's the goat.
Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
But plean, I'll give it to Michael, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
They're both billionaires. Childhood crushed my child. Jenny Jackson. Janet
like that my wife look look like Janey Jackson. Boy,
I told boy, Janet Jackson was my baby.
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
No, thank god.
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
If I hey, boy, if I'd met Janney Jackson, they
had another Michael.
Speaker 2 (01:12:40):
Jackson got damn right up, goddamn right, all right, I'm praised.
I'm praised, But I lied. I ain't lied.
Speaker 4 (01:13:02):
Teammates you ever had on what team?
Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
Oh? Man?
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
I was so blessed with funny teammates, like I told you,
like like Nate Nude, Charles Haley, all these jokes. Man,
We've had some crazy, crazy teammates. I mean, Charles is
Charles is as crazy as any man, you know. And
and I've done some crazy things, you know, so so yeah,
I would have to go.
Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
Crazy as Charles crazy at char Funny is probably Nate Nude,
big big from Charles got both of us. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
both of us. Charles is the mug man. Yeah, that's
my dude. I love him so much. Man, that's crazy, dude.
Speaker 5 (01:13:46):

guys have had Tyreek Hill. Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):

think Tyreek Hill is unique dude, you know, a very unique,
cool dude. I like to see like it's a game,
you know, because we got some of the Napoleon in him.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
Yeah, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
It makes you great, it makes them great. So I'm
okay with that. Who else would be very interesting? H
gotten Jane Daniels yet, young quarterback. I think that'll be
awesome because there's so much around him and so much
going on with him, and he's so you know, and
then with all this with his mother stuff and all
of that, you know what I mean. I would wonder
(01:15:00):
just from outside looking in, like I would ask what
kind of relationship he asked with his dad? You know
and all of that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:08):
That's a good car.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Like it's true he's dating superstar. I hope so is
talking about your girl basketball player? Did you walk? That's
why they say her name? You do? You know? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah. But I hope so I was.
Speaker 3 (01:15:20):
I saw that and I saw my so mom mom
sitting between I say, no, come on, let that will go.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Right right now.
Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
Now, if she came from one of them what's your
name club? Put something, you're gonna sit between her. But
but that one never let that one go there.
Speaker 1 (01:15:38):

Speaker 4 (01:15:41):

Speaker 2 (01:15:41):
