Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey there, folks.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It is Thursday, August twenty first, and the woman found
dead on a boat in Montalk this month has been
laid to rest. Her family held her funeral yesterday, still
not knowing how she died. Welcome everybody to this episode
of Amy and TJ. Martha nolan Oslatterer. It was the

(00:26):
mystery in Montalk that everybody was talking about, and now
here we are two weeks later, two weeks after that death.
We still have a mystery and still don't know if
we have a murder mystery, no indication of that, but
the fact that we don't have answers has everybody still
buzzing and talking about this story. A lot of you

(00:47):
all will remember August fifth, Martha nolan o'slaterer. We didn't
know her name at the time, but word came that
someone had been found at the Montak Yacht Club, an
exclusive spot, on a boat that was parked there. In response,
that's all the information we got. We didn't know who
she was with, we didn't know what she was doing,
We didn't know who she was at the time, but
there were some pretty sketchy details at least having to

(01:10):
do or surrounding her death. Who was some guy she
was with, and who was trying to help her, and
what exactly was going on. All those questions still remain
and the case, as far as the investigation goes, police
haven't released much of anything in this case and they
haven't they don't have answers, they say, because they're waiting
on a toxicology. So this is where we are that

(01:30):
two plus weeks after the death of Martha Nolan o'slattera,
her family gets her body back to Ireland, where she's from.
She has now been laid to rest. Her funeral was
yesterday and we still can you imagine as a family
member's shocking enough to lose somebody that you're close to
is shocking as well. To lose somebody so young, it's
shocking as well, to lose somebody in such a sudden

(01:53):
and unexpected way. And then on top of all that,
you still don't know. This family still does not know
how their family member died, and yesterday they laid her
to rest. This funeral was held at the Cathral Cathedral,
I should say Cathedral of the Assumption in Carlo, Ireland.
This is where she was from. It's in the eastern
part of the country there you can drive Dublin to Carlo,

(02:17):
about an hour and a half southwest of Dublin, to
give you some idea, But there was a Catholic mass
held there for her yesterday. Several hundred people did show
up to honor her, and among them was her partner,
Nick Durubio. He was in Montauk at the time of
her death, but they were not together. In fact, she
had texted him saying that she was calling an uber

(02:39):
and was coming home, and that was the expectation that
she would arrive, and she never did. But he spoke
at the funeral. Look, a lot of people as soon
as something like this happens and a mystery happens, you
think of who she was involved with, who she might
have been in a relationship with.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
This young lady.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
At least this guy that she was in a relationship
with was nowhere nearby, So that kind of question that
people might often have, It was never a moment here
they could account for where he is. That it's a
non issue. Should mention there is no indication of violence.
There was no indication of violence on her body in
a preliminary exam of her, so they don't know how

(03:16):
she died, and there's nothing at this point so police
will tell you that suggests that there was foul play.
But when you have a place like Montalk, when you
have a young lady that quite frankly at this age,
this young blonde hair, pretty young girl, and it just
had everybody buzzing and talking. Robock and I happened to

(03:38):
be in Montalk at the time this happened that week.
We just happened to be spending the week there and
this was all anybody was talking about. And the concern
was at the time they don't know how she died.
Does that mean there's possibly a killer on the loose?
No indication of that. I want to keep reiterating that,
But the mystery continues as the family has had to

(03:58):
move forward in more But how could they ever find closure,
finality without actually knowing how their loved one died. So
at the funeral yesterday again in Carlo, Ireland, her sisters
spoke her again. Her boyfriend did speak and this line
from her boyfriend, I tell you all here as well
that we do not I mean, this is in Ireland,

(04:21):
this is happening. We're having to depend on a lot
of the major major outlets here are having to depend
on local outlets in Ireland for a lot of information,
So a lot of this does come from Irish newspapers
that were there and that were following the story. Whatever
boyfriend said this at one point during a eulogy. She
loved helping people. And many of you in this room
have been lucky enough to experience that love, friends, family,

(04:45):
loved ones past and present. We've all been lucky to
have known Martha, and we must live every day forward
with her in our hearts. There are images pictures out
there of him. He served as a pallbearer and he
helped He was carrying the casket of his girlfriend, the
person he was in a relationship with, and that is
just an It's an awful picture to see, quite frankly,

(05:06):
and it's just I can't imagine how tough that was
for that young fella to have to be there and
be a part of at The man who presided over
that mass put it this way. She had a short life,
but a packed life. That can be true, But that's
just sad, short life but a packed life. And this

(05:26):
is a young lady who was a fashion designer. She
had just hustled and by all indications of report, she
was a hustler and she got this. Her company was
called East by East. She got a swimwear and resort wear, sunglasses, shorts, swimsuits,
things like that. It's resort wear. And there was a
resort in Montauk. Actually that she had a little shop,

(05:48):
a little pop up to sell her things. So this
was something she clearly was passionate about. Clearly was actually
starting to see some success.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
In as well.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
And then August fifth we learn of her death. And
then many of you might remember we all woke up
to this idea. So you hear a lot of you
know where Montalk is or we do, as you don't.
It's on Long Island here in New York. But if
I say Hampton's, you know what that means. A lot
of people know this is a very nice, affluent, gorgeous

(06:20):
as well part of New York.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
The Hampton's.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
You get out there, it's just a series of towns
and townships along the way. You got Easthampton, you got Southampton,
you got sack Harbor, you got all these spots, but
Montalk is among them, essentially a part of the Hamptons.
And this is where this area is at the very
tip of Long Island, the very tip of New York
and the kind of the very tip of the United States.
In a lot of ways, it's just gorgeous. It's a

(06:43):
sleepy little town. It's high end, but it's so chilled.
You got a surfer community over here. You got not
just luxury cars passing you every second. I'm talking exotic cars.
It's just a different level out there. So when you
hear you just don't hear about like shocking deaths and
sort of violence and things like that. They've had hits

(07:04):
here or there over the years. But that's why this
was such a shocking moment. And I'm not giving more
credit to the fact that she was white and blonde
and a pretty girl. But you all know as well
as I do, sometimes what stories get covered, and you
know as well as I do, sometimes in television more so,
where you can show that image, how much attention this gets.

(07:25):
And sure any death is tragic, hers certainly is, and
it's a mystery still, but some of this where she
was and who she is, kind of added to so
much of the curiosity and the intrigue about what happened
to this young lady. She was out there there was
a nine to one one call on that Monday night

(07:45):
going into Tuesday, which would have been the August fifth,
there was a nine to one to one call saying
that a woman was unconscious, unresponsive and people were trying
to perform CPR. We learn later that the reason the
nine to one one call was made there was a
man reportedly naked, running up and down the dock, throwing
things and banging on things, trying to get people's attention,

(08:06):
saying help, help, help, I need help, And at some
point some bystanders came by trying to do CPR and
were not able to revive her. She was pronounced dead
no cause of death from the preliminary exam, but again
it was very important for them to note that there
were no signs of violence. So after that, you go
immediately to was she on something? Was she taking something?

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Was she.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Her family at least says she had no health issues
and nothing like that, And they are saying slow down
on this idea that possibly there were drugs involved. We
just simply don't know. And the fact that we know
almost nothing about what happened to this young lady and
what was happening that night, it has continued to add
to this mystery. Now, her sister Jackie spoke at this

(08:56):
funeral mass as well. And this is a tough I'm
going to read this here and anybody with siblings will
certainly be able to relate to this. But her sister
Jackie said, quote, Martha, my beautiful sister, you taught me
everything I needed to know in life. I didn't always
see you, but I knew you were there. Growing up
with you was like having a built in best friend.

(09:18):
From sharing secrets to late night talks.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
We've been through it all together.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Cheers to the laughter, the tears and countless memories made.
You will be in my heart forever.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Martha.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
A sibling like that, right you grow up, you're in
the same house, and it is it's your sibling, it's
your your brother, your sister.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
But that is you have.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
A best friend in the house. And this is a
thirty three year old young lady whose life was cut
short and we just don't know. We still just don't
know what happened to this young lady. Again, I mentioned
she was found at this Montauk yacht Clau. This is
a pretty high end hotel and resort, but you can
also rent space there for your boat, and this is
look everything out there seemingly pretty pricey, but this is

(10:02):
absolutely a high end place. So what was she doing there,
who was she with? What had she been up to
all night? There were reports, yes, from witnesses who talked
to local reporters out there, that yes, she had been
partying with somebody. They had gone out on a boat
and come back to the dock, they got on another
boat and said she was having a good time and
there was nothing necessarily untoward in anything they saw, at

(10:24):
least according to some of these witnesses. That being the case,
Now the question is who was this guy she was with,
where were they going, what were they doing, what were
they up to, Why wasn't he doing CPR? Who called
ninety one one? All of these things were just not
getting at this point. So this mystery continues. But at
the funeral yesterday, there was a particular note and I

(10:48):
learned something. I was just looking it up, But her
mother made a point of something. Her mom made a
point about a particular Catholic prayer to Saint Mars, and
a story was told about Saint Martha and why her
mom praised to Saint Martha and some of the details here.

(11:12):
Just look, if you're a faith or you're not, it's
hard to imagine that this story is just a coincidence. Hey, folks,

(11:32):
let's continue now and we're talking. Martha nolan oslatter of
the Young Lady, thirty three years old, fashioned designer, found
dead on a boat in Montauk earlier this month. Her
family laid her to rest yesterday. Her funeral was yesterday
and they still still don't know how their loved one died.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Now.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
At the funeral, I did mention that several people spoke,
including her partner and her sister, But there was a
story told by her mom and I had I was
not familiar with this, but she spoke of Saint Martha's prayer.
Her mom said, Saint Martha's prayer is something she does

(12:11):
every single week. She recites it every single week on
a particular day. She cites it on Tuesday. Now, I
don't know how many of you know the backstore and
Catholic and maybe you know Saint Martha. But there's a
prayer and her mom said, she recites it and it
goes like this, Saint Martha, I resort to your aid

(12:32):
and protection as proof of my affection and faith. I
offer you this light, which I'll shall burn every Tuesday.
Now there's more to it. That's just the first part.
But it's a prayer and mom says she does every
single week, which I shall burn every Tuesday to Saint Martha,

(12:54):
Every Tuesday to Saint Martha. They pointed out yesterday that
Martha nolan o'slattera was born on a Tuesday, she died
on a Tuesday, and this is the poet that her
mom recited. Now, look, you're faith, you're not of faith.

(13:15):
Some of those things just give you chills. And I
know right now the family is looking for something to
hold on to and some faith is going to have
to help them out right now. But that was just
an interesting nugget and detail that they mentioned yesterday that
Saint Martha, the Saint Martha's prayer that happens every Tuesday,
is something that her mom recited, and the end of
it says, I ask thee Saint Martha to overcome all

(13:37):
difficulties as you did overcome the dragon which you had
at your feet, comfort me in all my difficulties, and
through the great favors you did enjoy. When the Savior
was lodged in your house. Intercede for my family that
we be provided for in our necessities. They mentioned this

(13:59):
young lady yesterday as well several things they get. I'll
close with this. You see this at funeral if you've
ever been to one, I'm sure overwhelming majority of you have.
But oftentimes I've been to a funeral where there was
a i think a bicycle placed in the front because
the person who died was an avid biker. I've been

(14:21):
places where I've seen sports memorabilia or uniforms or things
like that in some way. And for They did this
for Martha yesterday and several items were brought up and
placed on her casket. Among them which I thought was
pretty cute.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Her makeup back.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I said, this was kind of a nod do something
that she was into the whole fashion world beauty. But
they brought up her makeup bag and the other one
I thought was just a cute little touch. They placed
her passport on her casket because that was about her
love of travel. This story continues, we are following it again.

(15:05):
I'm back in Manhattan now, but Montaga is just up
the road from us, and.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
It still has people there.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
A little a little shaken, but don't know what happened
to this young lady. And no matter what happened, we
just and I say we, I should just say, really,
the family need some answers right now. The rest of
us are just curious and want answers and wonder. But
for the family there are some answers that they do need.
But now, folks, we will continue to stay on top
of this. I'm TJ. Holmes from my partner Amy Robank,

(15:35):
who is normally with me, and you all might have
heard on the Morning Run this morning that she is
out in Boulder, Colorado. I had to drop off a
kid at college. One of us had to stay behind,
and since it was our.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Kid, I thought she should probably go.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
For folks, who always appreciate you hanging with us, we'll
talk to you soon, y
