Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey there, folks.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It is Saturday, July nineteenth, and what a weekend to
go to the movies.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
It's been twenty eight years.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Since we got the original cult classic I Know what
you did last summer, So all the talk this weekend
is about the sequel, right, Well, actually it's about a
cat fight between two of the stars and one of
the stars. Wait and with that, everybody, welcome to this
episode of Amy and TJ Robes. Everybody at this point

(00:30):
knows we are a horror movie fans, buffs, fanatics, we
could even go that far. So this movie was coming out,
obviously we were.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Gonna go see it, very excited to go see it.
So we usually google it ahead of time to kind
of see what the reviewers are saying so we know
what to anticipate. I like to keep my expectations lowered
a lot of times. This one had kind of meh reviews,
so we were in that space. But you find when
you go to google this movie what comes up. And
this is so frustrating women. I know you are going

(00:59):
to be annoyed alongside me. When women get headlines when
there is clickbait made about us, especially celebrities. It's usually
over whether or not we're cat fighting, or we've gained
too much weight. It's about our weight, how we look,
and how we can't stand one another. And that's exactly
what the headlines are for this movie.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, they wrapped it all up.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I guess these are two of the things instead, especially
when you're dealing with Hollywood. I mean, I know it's
tap Lloyd's stuff with so much of the headlines and
stuff that gets going. And yes, on social media as well,
we seem to enjoy the idea of women going after
each other. I use the term catfight, which is probably
one that should be put to rest for this idea
that Sarah Michelle Geller and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who come on,

(01:42):
y'all in this movie, you said, Jennifer love Hewitt. When
that was originally shot, she was a teenager.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
She was sixteen years old, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
So Sarah Michelle Geller, I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
I think she was eighteen.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
They were adorable. They were kids. They were just cute,
adorable kids at that point. But we all fell in
love with them in the roles they play, and we
just love that movie. So to think of those two now,
everybody wants the idea of them beefing.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Well, and I do think maybe even people want to
think that these two rode off into the sunset together
and are still friends and hang out. We all love
to hear that the cast is still tight and they
hang out off the set. It makes you feel like
you can invest in the movie or in the storyline
that you were buying into because there were some truth
to it, and they all really do like each other.
So there is that side of it. But yes, when

(02:29):
you hear that they haven't spoken in eighteen years, that
of course sparks all of these rumors. So Jennifer Love
Hewitt did an interview with Vulture magazine and she said, Hey,
I just haven't seen Sarah Michelle Gellar. She's we literally
have not talked. I have not seen her since she
was eighteen years old when the first movie came out. Period.

(02:50):
So there's no beef, there's no rift, there's no feud.
It's just we don't interact. We're just not in each
other's lives.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
We're just we're more emotionally attached to that movie than
they are. Correct, So I see them as buddies and
high schoolers who graduated together.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
They throw all this together and they're family and all this.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
It's just I think that they're not speaking. There must
be something wrong. I like what Jennifer Love Hewitt said.
She said, I just think people don't want the narrative
to be easy. Why do we always have to be
against each other or out for each other? They want
to believe again, we've talked about this, there's a bad guy,
there's a good guy. They want to know who it is.
She's like, it's just, you know, as simple as we

(03:30):
don't hang out. And then actually, Sarah Michelle Geller went
on to social media to try and defend because they
said they weren't making eye contact or not with each
other at the red carpet, so people were looking for
the body language between them. So she actually put out
a tweet and said for everyone asking, this is actually
an instagram. I never got to see Jennifer love Hewitt,

(03:52):
who was fantastic in the movie. I was inside with
my kids when the big carpet happened, and unfortunately Jennifer
Love Hewitt didn't come to the after par So she
tried to put it to bed.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
I mean, it's a perfectly good explanation, but ah, why
do we seem to go wild and run wild with
that narrative and want to we embrace, we make light
of and it's just like you said, it's clickbait. But
why is it we for some reason.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
We like to pit women against each other.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I say that and the next thing, and maybe only
a man would say this next thing, But women oftentimes
pit themselves against each other. That's true way I mean,
I think you've used the term before. There's nobody worse
on women than women.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
We're the hardest on one another, correct, And I think
instead of yes, of course, you see women supporting women,
and every time we do, I think we all have
a collective awe like, yeah, that is what we should
be doing. We want more of that. But the truth is,
oftentimes when you get a generalization or something that people
want to click on, it's because there is some truth

(04:53):
to it. And that is certainly I think that is
an authentic experience for most women. That yes, oftentimes we
are each other's worst enemies. Instead of backing each other,
we are threatened by one another, or we're suspicious of
one another, or we're competing with one another, and that
is part of the problem.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
And it is it is I don't say it breaks
my heart, but it's still I want to believe that
these two event buddies I grew up together, their kids
grew up together in the whole thing, because they were
so sweet in the movie. And of course, Jennifer love
hew It is back in this movie. Friddi Prince Junior
is back in this one as well, because they were
the surviving members.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Right.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
So, Sarah Michelle what was that scene? Actually, I wasn't sure.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
What that was. How they how she died dream thing
or something?

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Oh? Yes, so Sarah Michelle Geller does make an appearance
in this and yes it was in a dream sequence
because she said, of course I'm not real and then
she ends up decaying in front of everyone because that
she was obviously dead when this movie is shot. She
was killed in the first one twenty eight years ago.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
No Ryan Philippin in this one, right, there was no
real hint of him in this. Obviously we don't do
movie reviews here, but obviously the other was a It's
a classic.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
It's a cult classic in so many ways, and this one.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Had its own twist on things. I had a favorite character.
He was the most arrogant dude in the movie So.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Awful Death.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yea, that was a good one. Actually it was. It
was a duo death and I appreciated it. But yes,
so you know what, I think this one, if you
go into it for people who love horror movies, think
of it more of a campy movie, and the campy
movie perhaps that it was. It does loosely follow the original.
There are a few changes, but I actually appreciate campy writing,

(06:41):
and there was a lot of campy writing. So TJ
and I would be looking at each other and like
rolling our eyes but laughing all the same. So it's
still entertaining. And you know, I had a couple of
little jumps here and there that was nice. But yes,
it's more for the entertainment. It's more for the nostalgia.
It's more for to say you saw it. I think
it's not like, oh my god, you're going to be

(07:02):
so scared, oh my god, it's so there's such a twist.
It's not that. But it's still fun and it's still entertaining.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yes, and we.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Did when we heard the first few lines, we said, okay,
this is going to be that, and we embraced and
we knew it was going to be funny along the way.
They do update a lot of things and a lot
of language and some stuff for the times. I'm not
giving away the movie by giving away this line, but
I did write this down. He gives you an idea
when a guy was being killed the I mean, he's
in the middle of absolutely going to his demise and

(07:33):
he's trying to plead with the killer.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
I think I know what you're gonna say, dude.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Take the code to my crypto wallet.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yep, he was trying to take the code to my
crypto wallet.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
That was funny.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
It was that kind of silly stuff every now and again.
That was That was great. So we again we talk
about Sir Michelle Geller and Jennifer Love. He would been
pitted against each other in some headlines and robes. You
you brought this to my attention, but you said, have
you seen what they're saying about Jennifer Love Hewitt. This
was after the movie's premiere.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
That's correct. So I actually went and looked up the photos,
as I'm sure many of you did too, and so yes,
Jennifer Love Hewitt has is forty six years old. She
does not look the same as she did when she
shot the movie originally when she was just sixteen years old.
I really didn't realize she was that young. So, yeah,
her body isn't going to look the same as it

(08:27):
did thirty years ago. But we actually just people were
being cruel, absolutely cruel online as they are when she
walked the red carpet in her evening gown. And I
do we want to put out some of just so
people know. I hate to. I hate to lend any
power or give any fuel to the comments, but they were.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
As awful as hogorrific.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yeah, horrific, and very specific about her weight, and just
really awful. Now, the nice thing about the Internet, or
at least some of these comment pages, is that so
many people just jumped into her defense. I liked one
person wrote, imagine being a grown ass man looking at
a middle aged woman with children, and the first thing

(09:10):
your worm brain comes up with is how she no
longer has the body of an effing teenager. You know,
I think, I think just she looks great and beautiful.
So other people said, hey, in an age of GLP
one weight loss medications, it was great to see someone
looking authentic. At least she's not on ozebic. So you know,
there were plenty and plenty of people who came to

(09:30):
her defense. But I think for us when we actually
we actually went and looked at some of the Red
carpet coverage and we heard what Jennifer Love Hewitt said
before she ever probably had to see these comments, probably
as the comments were being written. We saw her being
interviewed on the Red carpet, and it was heartbreaking to
hear what she said about why she chose what she

(09:51):
was going to wear. Welcome back everyone to this edition
of Amy and TJ, where we just went and saw
we know what you did last summer. I know, oh,
I said, we see.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
We just went to see.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
I guess, okay, fair I did watch that, Okay, But yes,
we were just talking about Jennifer Love Hewitt. She is
back in the Reprisal, and yes, she's thirty years older
than when she starred in it, all the way back
in the nineties, and she has been receiving a tremendous
amount of hate from folks who were commenting on her
body and what she looked like and the weight she

(10:34):
had gained, and it was horrific and horrible. And there
were also amazing folks who came to her defense. And
praised her actually and said she looks better than ever. So,
but it's just one of these moments where you don't
know what the star is thinking, except for we do
know we did hear directly from Jennifer Love Hewitt on
that very night at the Red carpet.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Is it ever okay to comment on somebody's if you
have something negative to say? Is it ever? I mean,
at what point is it? Should we realize it's not
okay to ever like, is there any way to do
that in any kind way?

Speaker 1 (11:11):
No, you just shut.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Up, Yes, especially when it has nothing to do with you.
You're not trying to make them healthy or help them,
you know, somehow live a better life. No, you're just
being mean and rude for the sake of feeling better
about yourself.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
That part's bizarre.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Like even if you look at anybody's picture and think
to yourself, Wow, that person's put on weight since I
last saw them ten years ago in whatever movie. Right,
even if you think that, why why would you say
that out loud? And why would you put that in writing?

Speaker 3 (11:43):
You know, it's true to say it out loud, it
is a whole other thing, But then to put it
in writing and to send it out for not just
the world to see, but for Jennifer Lofew and herself
to see. You know, you have to know that sometimes
these folks, as much as they don't want to read comments,
sometimes read the comments, and it doesn't matter who they're
coming from, they hurt.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
It is I haven't met.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
I've seen people who have handled it better, who even
I would say, handle it well. But I don't know
anyone who isn't impacted by no matter how big their
stardom has been, who's not impacted by just negative words
said about them online by random people. Doesn't matter who
they are, how big of a star you are, and

(12:26):
how small of a person they are. I still see
people get hurt by this stuff. And I just some
of the stuff you're talking about, and we didn't read it.
That's probably a good call.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Bit, Yeah, I didn't. I don't want to get power
to it, and I don't want to give it any
more weight than it already has. But you just re
listened to the segment where she was being interviewed by
that reporter and she talked about why she chose the
dress she chose for the Red carpet that evening.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
You know because she says she wanted to feel good.
She was talking to I can't remember which outlet it was, eh,
I wish I could, but this is These were her words.
I just wanted to feel good. I cover up a
lot because we're in Hollywood and people worry about what
they look like and what other people are going to say.
And I'm just like tonight, I'm not going to worry

(13:13):
about that.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
I'm just going to go feel good. End quote.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
That was Jennifer Love Hewitt before folks started slamming her.
She already almost sounds like she did a like she
made a conscious decision to be brave in her mind,
to be made a choice to go feel good and feel.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Good about herself and not worry.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
And then everybody came for I think.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
For me when we heard that, it was all the
more heartbreaking because you knew it was in the back
of her mind she was thinking about it. And then
she decided, yes, I love how you said. That was brave.
She decided to be courageous. She decided to wear what
she wanted to wear, what was going to make her
feel beautiful, no matter what people might say. And then
people still went online and went after her. I do, though,

(14:01):
appreciate all the folks. I think it's amazing when people
clap back, not in another mean spirited way, but just
to say, hey, you know, she's a beautiful woman, and
just to give her that positive energy that she absolutely deserves,
that everybody deserves.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
If you haven't seen the pictures, folks, I honestly did
not get it. You had told me about it earlier
in the day. I didn't look the pictures up. We
were at lunch Brookville place, sitting outside. I said, hey,
what are you talking about? Show me the pictures. You
pull it up on your phone, handed to me across
the table. I didn't get it. I thought it was
a joke. I said, what's the problem here? I mean, yes, fine,

(14:37):
she doesn't look like the sixteen year old in the movie. Okay, well,
I said, I don't understand the lawn. If i'd have
seen that picture and you hadn't told me about whatever
hate she's getting, yeah, I would have just there's a
picture and.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Gone on to the next thing. I wouldn't have thought
anything about it.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
It wouldn't have been jaw dropping to you in any way,
or you thought. I can't believe because people are saying
she's completely unrecognizable. How is this the same person? But
the truth is, pick up a picture of you when
you were sixteen you like. And the crazy thing is
when you are immortalized in a way in a movie
that is as iconic and as he's a cult classic
that it is, you're frozen in time for a lot

(15:14):
of people. So when you've aged and gone about your
your years, people are just thrown and blown away when
you suddenly look very different, you know, it's.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Probably fair to say she she got up there in
terms of iconic looks. She was known for her look,
her body, that long hair and almost a girl next door,
but with.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Very big boobs too. She was sexualized from the beginning.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
And again she had a career, She had a good career,
and she had a long running TV.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Show Party of Five as well.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
So she almost did reach a level to where we
knew so much about her because of the way she looked.
And maybe that's playing well into.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
This Well, it certainly struck a chord with a lot
of women. I just actually read this one's she talking
about Jennifer Love Hewitt saying she's still a beautiful woman.
She grew up, she had kids and lives a real life.
The majority of real women do not remain looking seventeen
and a size zero. To her credit, she's not hiding
when she knows people are going to be mean in
the comments. Yeah. I thought that was a really good

(16:20):
way to put it.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Not hiding when you know they're going to be mean.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
And she said it, she said, I usually cover up,
but just tonight I decided not do that. I gotta
suck to hear that. But good for her for doing it,
and look rooting for and where else she shows up
with this was this was kind of It gave us
a moment to, I guess, reflect a little bit, yees,
a little reminder just God, God.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Just be a little nicer.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I do think too. I know it's I can only
imagine that it is painful, whether she wants to admit
it or not. But I do think this moment you
saw a lot of women reflecting and relating and perhaps
feeling united in the sense that, hey, we all have
to support each other, and we can't let people who
make ugly mean comments when we're all walking down a

(17:05):
very tough road dealing with a lot of stuff. Let's
not target or throw out hate like that for no reason.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Last thing, I just want to ask you just thought
about it now, could you tell in so many of
the comments that you did read where they were coming from,
if they were coming from men, where they coming from women?

Speaker 1 (17:21):
Could you tell?

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Sorry I put you on the spot, they know, if
you could tell.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
It seemed like mostly the mean ones came from men.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Men.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Yes, yes, that is in fact people were other women
were saying, you know, pointing out calling out men. I mean,
you can't know always if it's a man or woman,
but most of them it does appear to be men.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Yes, I'm just curious there.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Yep. Well, we certainly hope you have a wonderful rest
of your day today. Thanks for listening to us as
always on behalf of my partner TJ. Holmes, I'm Admi Robock.
Have a great day everybody.
