Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio podcast. Good
morning everyone, It's Monday, February tenth, the Monday after Super
Bowl Sunday. Welcome to your Morning Run. I'm Amy Robot and.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I'm TJ Holmes and on the run this morning, the
Eagles run away with the super Bowl, the biggest game
of the year wasn't much of a game at all.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Kendrick Lamar's halftime show still has folks buzzing, especially about
his superstar surprise guest, who stole the show with just
a five second cameo.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Also another surprise at halftime was a protest by one
performer who was quickly and not so nicely escorted out
and won't ever be allowed back at an NFL game.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Two of the most famous people in the world were
in the stands last night, and one of them was cheered,
the other was booed.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
And how did you like seeing Seal as a seal?
There were some hits and some uncomfortable misses in last
night's Super Bowl ads.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
And President Trump made news on his way to the
Super Bowl Tariffs, another agency shutdown, the Gulf of America,
and owes so much more.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Also this morning, we'll give you our two cents about
Trump's plan to do away with pennies.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
And head on over to Starbucks. Your coffee is on
the house today. I am very excited about this one, babe.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
You know, it's a nice touch. It's promotional. But let's
just say thanks to Starbucks. So we know what they're
trying to do here. But hey, you had a rough
day yesterday and they're saying, hey, you can get a
free cup of coff We'll tell you how you could
do that.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
And I will be taking them up on it in
just a few moments, all right. First up, though, on
our run. Yeah, it wasn't even close. Congrats to the
Philadelphia Eagles who beat the Kansas City Chiefs convincingly last night.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
And when we say convincingly, we're talking forty to twenty
two the final score. It didn't even feel that close. Actually,
this was a suffocating and a dominant defensive performance by
the Eagles. They frustrated Chief superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes all night,
forced him into several turnovers, including a couple of interceptions,
one of them was returned for a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Mahomes also had a fumble and was sacked six times.
He finished the game with the second lowest quarterback rating
in the history of the Super Bowl. On the other side,
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP. He
threw a couple of touchdown passes and was the leading
rusher for the game.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
And Chiefs, of course, we're going for a historic three peat,
but it was evident early on that they were in trouble.
The score was twenty four to nothing at halftime. The
Chiefs only picked up twenty three yards and one first
down in that first half. It was then thirty four
to nothing at the end of the third quarter, and
then it was forty to six the early part of

(02:36):
the fourth quarter. So the final score seemed like it
was respectable. It wasn't right.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Because I didn't even remember. I was like, wait, they
managed to score twenty two points. I don't remember seeing
any of.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
That because you checked out at the end of the game,
because it was over and we got up from where
we were and started as scoring started adding with the.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Exgits yes, because we already knew, I mean we knew
after halftime it was not going to be an exciting game.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Was shocking. And again, congratulations to the Eagles. They have
had the number one defense in the league for the
most part all season long, only a couple losses. And
congrats to Jalen Hurts. If invies followed this kid's story,
the quarterback from for the Eagles. This same team lost
to the Chiefs two years ago. But this is a
kid who on national TV was humiliated when he was

(03:22):
pulled out of a national championship game at Alabama for
Tua Taga ballot.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I was there at that game and saw it all happen.
So it's nice to see him get his due and wow,
I mean, it doesn't get better than last night for him.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
So congrats to the Eagles. So the party continues for.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Them, all right. Next up on our run, President Trump
had quite the day yesterday and it started with a
round of golf with Tiger Woods.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, Tiger and his son Charlie met the President at
his golf club in Palm Beach early Sunday. The two
men have a little history. I've played together before, and
Trump also presented Tiger with the Presidential Medal of Freedom
during his first term.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
It is unclear what, if anything, was behind the timing
of their or if there was a purpose beyond well
just two dudes who decided to get in around. So
that's how the president's day started before heading to New
Orleans and made several headlines before the big game even began.
He talked to reporters on the plane ride, as well
as sitting down with Fox News for an interview which

(04:17):
aired prior to the game.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Okay, we'll just give you a couple of the headlines
here from the President. He said to think of the
Gaza Strip as a quote big real estate site, and
he reiterated his desire for the US to own it.
He also said yesterday at one point that there will
be new twenty five percent tariffs on steel and aluminum
goods coming into the US.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
He also voiced his support for Elon Musk, saying he's
been terrific in his role with the White House. Andy
signed a proclamation during his flight declaring Sunday Golf of
America Day. He signed it as Air Force was as
Air Force one was flying over the Gulf of Mexico
rather at the Gulf of America.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
What there might be guidance that's put out to journalists?
What are we supposed to officially use when we're reporting.
I'm not sure who has to make the call. We
use AP guide books and things over the years. What
do we do here?

Speaker 1 (05:09):
It feels strange, It.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Does a little bit. So we will wait. But for now,
it's the Gulf of Florida. We'll continue here now. And
once the President got to the game, he was greeted
warmly by the crowd. As he entered the stadium, he
met with a family of victims of the New Orleans
terror attack, that terror attack that happened down on New Years.
Those victims were also honored before the game. And this

(05:32):
was a nice time. We immediately when it happened, we say, wow,
this is nice.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
It was really, really, really well done. They had all
of the first responders who had worked on the tragedy.
They were there on the field, and this was the
incredible touch. They each were holding a frame of a
picture of every individual who died in that attack. So
all fourteen victims were honored with their pictures, and the
camera went in and closed up on each one of
those photos, which was just a really touching moment to

(05:59):
bring home in person the tragedy.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
You know what. We they were pointing things out. It
was amazing when they were talking about we want to
honor the victims, and things have been going on, and
we've had just enormous tragedies, the crash and the Potomac.
We had the crash in Philly, the flooding. Still they're
dealing with the North Carolina, the fires in La La
and it feels like I'm all, I'm the terror attack. Yes,

(06:22):
the New Orleans. We've had an awful series and it's.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Only February, right, it seems like a lot. And it
was just it was a nice way to pay, you know,
their respects to those who lost their lives. And the
pregame also included this was wonderful unique New Orleans inspired
renditions of the National Anthem and America the Beautiful, and we.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Wish we could play them for you right now because
we were. They were beautiful to listen to and they
were so unique. But please take your time today. It
only take a couple of minutes. Go check them out
if you missed them yesterday, and take a listen. Joon
Batiste on the piano for the Star Spangled Banner, and
then Lauren Dale and Trombone Shorty they handled America the Beautiful.
All the performers are Louisiana natives. I think America the

(07:04):
Beautiful was the one. I was like, wow, this is
a very cool rendition that they put their New Orleans
spin and flare on it. It was this was really
well done.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Again, it was joyful to watch, and both of these
they were both so joyful. I loved it. And there
was another cute and funny moment inside the super Dome.
We got a lot of attention last night. First, if
you aren't aware, one of the Chiefs players is dating
a big singer. She'd been showing up to his games,
and sure enough, there she was in the stance again

(07:33):
last night.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Okay, yeah, no surprise there. And when cameras turned to
her and she was shown on the screen, big screen
in the stadium, clearly you could hear her being booed
soundly by the fans. Now, what do you do in
that moment the camera's on you, showing you on National
TV and showing you in the stadium. She gave a
very sly perfect little grin, acknowledging what everybody was doing.

(07:56):
So this was actually the first time. Though she's been
attending these games all season, you see you there every
single time. They love showing her doing a broadcast She's
been to ten games a season. This is the first
one that the Chiefs lost.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
She's been there.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Good luck change, she has been there.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
It was weird though where we were as well, the
cheers and the booing. We heard people cheering for President
Trump when they showed him, and then where we were
last night, they bowed Taylor Swift as well. It was
it was very interesting, but she did handle that very
very well well. Trump's sorty tweeted all about it, you know,
because she's like his nemesis. They had this back and

(08:33):
forth and so he loved hearing the cheers for him
and the booze for her. So he had some fun
with it on social media, per usual.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
All right, we should say in full disclosure, we say
where we were. We're not at some secret underground location.
We happened to. Look if you haven't been, Vegas is
a great place to be for the Super Bowl. They
have big events, so you could set up in a
big stadium with other people all around, and that's where
we were. And so yeah, there were thousands of people around,
and we got the same reaction where we were as
they seem to have gotten.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
It was a little shock and I'm glad you pointed
it out, because it wasn't our friends and family booming
Taylor Swift Yeah and cheering for preessors. Just wanted to
make that clear. The strangers, we didn't know them, but
it was It was an interesting moment.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
More important point to make.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Thank you all right, next up on the run that
halftime show. When we got up this morning, the name
Kendrick was still the number one trending top on.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
X Yes, this this show is going to be talked
about for quite a while, for years to come. This
was the first time that we had a rap artist
who solo headlined the halftime show, so it was quite
the show. A lot of anticipation about what would happen,
certainly surrounding that big song not like Us, but a
lot of surprises and rose us through Samuel L. Jackson

(09:43):
came out dressed as Uncle Sam and played the role
essentially of MC and carried us through the halftime show.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
It was very cool. We knew Sissa was coming out.
She did a couple of songs with him. She looked amazing,
sounded great, and then the moment everybody was waiting for happened,
but only after teas early.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Off Coase night like not like Us, the mega hit
from last year, Song of the Year, just won five Grammys.
They went five for five and swept everybody's waiting for
that song. There was debate robes early on legal debate
before the Super Bowl. Can he even perform the song
because Drake has filed several lawsuits against him and the

(10:21):
production COUMP excuse me, the music labels for the release
of the song, so.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
That accuses him of being a pedophile.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
So the network and the NFL and we don't want
to get caught up in this, and in some way
we are dragged into it for allowing the song to go.
But it did go, yes, and we heard a little
bit of its start. He kind of teased us earlier and.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
They were like, oh here it is no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
But he said this line when he played the tees,
I want to play their favorite song, but they know
but you know they love to Sue, is what he said.
So then we all like, wait a minute, he's not
gonna sing it. So he teased us and the teas
kept on and all for a little while. But yes,
finally he did perform the song. But the surprise, the
biggest surprise we always see surprise guests during halftimes. They're

(11:08):
usually performers. Correct, there are other artists. Didn't see this
when coming.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yes, Serena Williams, and you know what, I didn't know,
but I didn't have a deep knowledge of who Drake
has dated. But I did not realize it boast Isa
and Serena dated Drake. So it was a little extra
dis whoa he knows. And when he said some of
those lines, he looked right in the camera and said
it to camera like boldly. It was impressive.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
It was quite the show. And I think that's also
when put it this way, this was he had already
buried Drake during the rap battle. Now he's dancing on
his grave.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Oh, that is one way to put it.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
But Serena Williams, who is also from the same area
of Compton where Kendrick Lamar. They love each other and
admire each other, but he is wrapped about Serena and
one of the lines said you better not speak on
Serena in defense of her. In one of the lyrics,
she came out cripwalking. Crip walking. If you don't know, folks,
this is something that comes from his air from southern California.

(12:09):
It was something done, yes, by a gangster, but crip
walking is something that's just legendary in southern California. She
crip walked at the super Bowl during that song. It
was It was unbelievable what that moment stood for in
so many ways. But he showed out. He showed out
for me.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
You were so happy, forget who cares. It was a boring,
boring game because the halftime show is all all eyes
were on Kendrick and you were so happy.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
I was. But as exciting as it all was, there
was a moment we heard about later that we actually
didn't see during the broadcast. The performer was detained after
staging his own one man protest. During that halftime show.
He held up a flag with the words Sudan and
Gaza on it.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
He was a part of the four hundred or so
dancers and cast members performing with Kendrick at halftime, and
at one point he actually hopped on top of a
car that was being you used as a prop and
held up the flag before he was eventually taken down
by police.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Again, I don't think it made it on the broadcast.
The NFL confirmed in the statement that the performer hid
the flag on his person ahead of the performance. They
didn't see it, didn't know this was coming. They also
said the guy is going to be banned for life.
That makes sense NFL games and other events. He cannot
step foot at any other event.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
That's very fair, I think so for sure. All right,
next up on our run. This year's Super Bowl commercials
were stars studded and as usual, a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Okay, there were some easy laughs in there, but nothing
necessarily controversial or that big of a surprise. Rose you
jumped off the couch all most when you saw Willem
Dafaux and Catherine O'Hara, they were crushing everybody and pick
a ball in that michelop Ultra commercial probably the favorite.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
I laughed so hard at that one.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
That was a favorite of ours. The seal being a
seal in the mountain dew ad was a little cringey.
It was bizarre.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
It was a lot cringy for me, okay, And.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Then Shabozzi was selling nerds, so use commercials were kind
of fun. But the industry folks say everybody was kinda
safe there.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yeah, I thought that was interesting. Most of the Super
Bowl ads were in development during the presidential election. And
so it's believed that a lot of these brands wanted
to avoid controversy as a top priority. They didn't know
how things were going to go. They didn't know what
the climate of the country would become Super Bowl, so
it's interesting they made choices trying to anticipate potential problems.

(14:23):
So anyway, the problem can be that safe advertising isn't
as memorable. The price tag eight million dollars for a
thirty second spot, so you want to make sure you
leave an impression with folks. Although I gotta say there
are a few I want to forget. For me, the
Helman's commercial I so Billy Crystal and Megryan recreated the
when Harry met Sally when she has the orgasm. But

(14:43):
to me, like, if you're having Meg Ryan replicate the
orgasm while she's eating mayonnaise, I just those two things
do not go together.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
For me.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
It was not good.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
It kind of ruins mayonnaise and organics.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Correct. I don't want to think about either, especially not
together for me. Seal is a seal. I can't unsee
that that was so weird. I don't understand how Mountain
Dew is whatever. But I liked Tom Brady they took
the batteries out. That was really funny. And you know,
I love that Nike so win you had Shakri Richardson,

(15:15):
Caitlin Clark, I mean there it was so power podcast.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Carrie Richardson, I love I love so Yes, well done
by several, But that makes a good point given the climate,
makes sense that everybody wanted to play it a little saved.
But on this Monday, when we come back, we'll continue
our run. And the place you need to be run
into today is Starbucks. They got a free cup of
coffee waiting for you. Also more Trump news. He's ready

(15:38):
to shut something else down and he's ready to take
some change out of your pocket. Stay with us.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Welcome back everyone to your morning run on this Monday.
Did you get your free cup of coffee yet? Today
we'll swing by star It's waiting for you. The company
is giving everybody a free post super Bowl pick me up,
one free tall cup of hot or iced coffee.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Yeah, this is how the company puts it. With the
big game on Sunday, mini Americans will spend the day
going big, which may lead to a long Monday. So
free cup of coffee. You wondering there's got to be
a catch. Well, apparently there's not. This is how you
get it. You just need to be a Starbucks Rewards member. Now.
Usually when they tell you to sign up for some
I roll my eyes.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
But actually have this app. It's easy. You can put
your money on it as well, So you just log
into the app. There will be a coupon there waiting
for you, and even if you're not already a Starbucks
Rewards member, you can sign up today and still get
that free cup of Joe.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Next up, we will continue the run with some non
super Bowl news, but still Trump news. The President has
ordered the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to shut down.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Yes, it was in a Saturday evening email. Apparently that's
not a good thing to get if you're a federal
employee these days. But work were told to stop working
and that their DC headquarters would be closed next week
without any explanation.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Yeah, this email instructed employees and contractors to work remotely
unless instructed otherwise. Elon Musk took the x so with
the weekend, writing that the Consumer Financial let me get
the name cf P.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
It's the Consumer Financial Protection here b Yes, rest in P.
I screwed. I screwed it up for you, CFPB rip.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
There it is, give it to him one more zon roe.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Cf PB rip.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Okay. So he's essentially saying he wants this thing to
go away, and he tried to do it in acute
way with the letters that look on a Monday after
the Super Bowl screwed up, We're just not going to
get that right, okay.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
And then by Sunday the CFPB website read page not found.
We're seeing a lot of that as well. This was
a bureau that was created after the two thousand and
eight banking recession. It's to protect consumers from unfair and
predatory corporate behavior. They say they've gotten twenty billion dollars
for Americans, but a lot of Republicans say, hey, this

(18:05):
thing is sucking money from the federal government and it
doesn't do much.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Wow, but that sounds like a worthy cause. Protect consumers
from unfair predatory corporate behavior. Rip. Let's straight down.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Next up on the round, Trump is also announced that
the US will now stop producing pennies. President Trump has
ordered the Treasury Secretary to stop making pennies in order
to reduce unnecessary government spending. I sense the theme.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah here, So the President said let's rip the waiste
out of our great nation's budget, even if it's one
penny at a time. Kind of clever. According to the
hus meant last year, it cost.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
This is classic government waste.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Okay, one penny cost one cent. It costs US almost
four cents to produce one. It costs US three point
seven cents. They say for every one penny produced.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
That just doesn't it's the cost of them, the medals
and all of that. Yes, So now it's like, that's insane.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
That's nothing we do in life and your life that
you would continue doing that.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Okay, I support and who likes pennies anyway? I can't
stand them.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
They have to put them in my loafers when I
was a kid.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Oh I did too. That's so cute, all right. Next
up on the run, something you need to know about
two million baked goods are being recalled. The FDA has
recalled sixty baked products from a pastry wholesaler FGF brands
for a potential lysteria contamination. And some of those goods
were sold at Dunkin Donuts.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
We're talking products that include chocolate, raspberry, Bavarian donuts, Eclaire's coffee, rolls.
So far, no official word on illnesses related to the recall.
Hysteria is the third leading cause of death from food
born illness in the United States. We've seen several of
these are hard to keep up with, but this is
a lot of baked goods. Just needs to be.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Aware, yep, just need to be aware, all right. For
the final leg of our run on this Monday, after
the Super Bowl edition of Morning Run, Ah, half the
country is in for wicked winter weather, not just for
a day or two, for most of the week and
maybe even into the weekend. So much of the country
has already had eventful weather this February, especially in the
northern half, and that's a trend that's going to continue

(20:14):
starting today in the Midwest.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Okay, we're talking two major weather systems hitting back to
back this week. Severe weather. It's going to bring with
it snow ice in the North, heavy rain in the South.
Millions of Americans affected here and tomorrow many areas of
the Mid Atlantic will get up to six inches of snow.
And then there's another storm right behind that delivering a
one to two punch.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah, Wednesday is going to be another snowmaker from the
plains to the Midwest into the northeast, and then, oh
this is so fun. A blast of Arctic air will
add to the mix. Some areas are going to be
forty degrees below average. Montana and the Dakotas, we'll have
temperatures that don't go above zero and windchills up to
minus forty degrees. I can't even get my head around that.

(20:55):
But yeah. There is another storm then also developing for
the weekend. So it's just it's a very colorful weatherboard
you'll see on all the meteorologists this week because there's
just a lot coming our way.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
The prettier the weatherboard, the worse it is for you
in your traveling is.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
The darker the color purple, the more story you're getting, right,
It's always like that.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
An apologies, please forgive us. On this day after the
Super Bowl. We usually like to end the run on
a higher, happy note, something light. They call it the
Kicker and the business. Yes, yeah, we couldn't dig one
out at times here in Vegas.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Bundle up, everybody, it's gonna be cool. Get that cup
of coffee to keep you warm and fuzzy.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
There it is, but we will leave you, as always
with something we'd like for you to consider on this
Monday as you go about your day. It's our quarter
of the day.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a
gift of God, which is why we call it the present.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Holy but goodie. Yes, litter on the cheesier side. Sometimes
it's used a lot.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I tried to deliver it with as much cheese as possible.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
No, but I think I like we needed some, you know,
I said, just say it. We didn't have a kicker.
This leaves you with a smile on your face because
no matter how many times you hear it, and how
many times people you is it any even how cheesy
you might think it is. Damn, it's the truth, ain't it. Yes?

Speaker 1 (22:03):
And when something rhymes like that, I can remember it
easily too. So Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift of God, which is why we
call it the present. It's just a nice reminder to
be in the moment.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
So enjoy, folks, the present, enjoy your gift today of
the Monday, and enjoy that cup of coffee. As always,
we appreciate you running with us for now from Vegas.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
DJ and I'm Amy Rovock. We'll see you on the
run tomorrow.
