Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, and welcome to Morning Run. It is for Friday,
June twentieth.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm Amy Robots and I am TJ. Holmes. Yes, it
is Friday, and this is going to be a long
day for all of us. But that's a good thing.
It's the Summer Solstice, considered the longest day of the year.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Also on the Run this morning, a bunch of President
Trump's stuff. He's given TikTok another reprieve. He's given himself
an Iran deadline, He's given the Fed chairman another public lashing,
and he's given Governor Newsom a major loss in court.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
And with all that, I guess he was too busy
to give any love to Juneteenth. The holiday went uncelebrated
by the White House, and the President even suggested we
get rid of it all together.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Also on the Run this morning, you need to know
about a deadly listeria outbreak that's been linked to a
specific chicken product. Also, R Kelly's request for immediate release
has been denied, but he's not done trying.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Also this morning, Diddy's trial resumes. Supposed to resume this morning,
but given what we've seen this week who knows. Also,
Grammy nominated rapper Fat Joe is being sued and the
sexual allegations are so explosive that the lawsuit came with
a graphic content warning.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
And finally, on this run, sometimes sports prayers get answered.
We will be getting a Game seven in the NBA Finals.
That was written by TJ.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Holmes.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yes, because we're getting a game seven.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yes, how it means.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
That just means we're getting another, We're getting last night
of sleep.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
We're getting one more. It's gonna be a big night two.
Everybody knows it now, even if you're not a major
sports watcher. What are the two best words in all
of sports? Seven? Two favorite words in all of sports?
Game seven. So yes, obviously we're excited about that. But Robes,
we're excited. Today is Normally you get up to say, wow,

(02:03):
this is going to be a long day, But today
it's a good thing.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yes, we're going to begin our run with some bright news.
It's officially summer as of ten forty one pm tonight,
and that marks the summer solstice, which is the longest
and brightest day of the year for those of us
in the northern hemisphere.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
So yes, on the calendar, it is going to show
that this is the official start of summer. But the
temperatures are proving it as well, temperatures and humidity for
millions of us confirming that it's summer. Eastern half of
the country moving into a heat wave, and the heat
wave is going to be then giving way to a
heat dome. Let's just say that's worse. So just how

(02:39):
much sunshine on this longest day are we going to beginning?
It depends on where you live. But the farther north
you are, the more daylight you will have today.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
It makes sense because this is all about the tilt
of the Earth's access So the northern part or the
northern half of the globe is now facing directly in
the sun, so you get a longer day. But the
further north you live, Yeah, I didn't think about that.
So Seattle is going to get fifteen hours and fifty
nine minutes of daylight today. DC's going to get fourteen
hours and fifty four minutes, and then Miami is only

(03:09):
going to get thirteen hours and forty five minutes. But
that's still the most they get here in New York.
I looked it up we're getting fifteen hours and eight minutes.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
We got to get this thing wrapped up. We gotta
get outside and starting enjoy the day.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
It's a beautiful day to day here in New York City.
Not to rub it in for anybody who isn't having
a great weather day, but today is about as perfect
as it gets. Starts out in the sixties, the highest
eighty three.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Okay, let's get through this morning run so we can
get out there and actually run. We continue now on
this Friday morning run. With presidents, you know, they traditionally
make public statements, send messages, or even make official proclamations
on national holidays. So that is what presidents usually do.
We know that. So how did President Trump choose to
commemorate June teenth. He did it with nothing, not a

(03:53):
not a word, not a mention of Juneteenth.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Yesterday, Even when asked directly by a reporter in the
Daily Briefing, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said, I'm
not tracking his signature on a proclamation day. I know
it's a federal holiday. I want to thank all of
you for showing up to work. We are certainly here.
We are working twenty four to seven right now, But
we later heard directly from the President in a social
media post.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
He said this, and we quote, too many non working
holidays in America. It is costing our country billions of
dollars to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers
don't want it either. It must change if we are
going to make America great again. End quote. We do
need to note in previous in his previous term, he
actually did issue statements commemorating Juneteenth. Didn't become a federal

(04:39):
holiday until twenty twenty one under President Biden. So this
is the first June teenth President Trump has had as president.
The concern, fine, The concern is, I can believe we
could possibly DEI out some holidays. The suggestion here on
this day is that we need it must change having
non working holidays. He told shows teenth to say it.

(05:01):
To think, are we going to go back after any
holiday that seems to be DEI related for this administration.
It's now that's crazy to think, Yes, go through Martin
Luther King that we're going to take away Black History Month.
I mean, the suggestion is that, right.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
I know, I know it's on brand at the very least,
it's absolutely tracking with everything else. He has put into place.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
I should mention he can't do this with the stroke
of a pen on his own. It would take an
act of Congress to try to change a federal holiday
to get it removed. However, he has does have a
Congress that's kind of on his side on a lot
of things.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
I duly noted, all right. Next up on the run,
a federal appeals court has ruled President Trump can continue
to use the National Guard to respond to immigration protests
in LA. The unanimous three judge panel ruling said that
the conditions in LA were sufficient for Trump to take
federal control of California's National Guard, but.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Last week a lower court judge in San Francis School
rule that the protests were not severe enough for Trump
to take over, but this appeals court has now disagreed.
Trump praised the appeals court ruling and said on social
media that the court supported his arguments to use the
National Guard all over the United States if local officials
can't get the job done.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
California Governor Gavin Newsom responded to the ruling, saying, the
president is not a king and is not above the law.
We will press forward with our challenge to President Trump's
authoritarian use of US military soldiers against citizens.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Isn't that crazy?

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Though?

Speaker 2 (06:30):
He's saying, is not a king not above the law.
But Trump is using the decision to say, they have
given me the right to do anything I want to do. Correct, correct,
we can send you on the run this morning. And
at this point, public feuds with the president are kind
of a daily occurrence. Where are some the governor k
newsomeone that continues to go strong, the musk one was

(06:51):
hot for a second. It might be cooling a little bit.
That feud does Zelensky one goes back and forth.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Yes, it depends on the day it does.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
But it's kind of thestalgic now when we go back
to a familiar feud, it makes us feel all warm
and fuzzy because some of this rhetoric of stuff we
have seen before. But Trump is now going after once
again Fed Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
I know it sounds crazy, but I kind of chuckled
because I was like, there he goes again, you know,
like the same back and forth with the Fed chair.
It's frustrating Trump more and more every time Powell and
the Feds decide not to cut interest rates further and
that's exactly what happened once again yesterday, Trump ripping into Powell,
calling him destructive and said too late, Powell is costing

(07:37):
the country hundreds of billions of dollars.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Oh and that wasn't even the worst of it. Even
before the FEDS made the announcement that it was leaving
interest rates unchanged, Trump anticipated the move, posting on social media,
so we have a stupid person. Frankly, you probably won't
cut today. Powell's term as FED chair ends in May
of twenty twenty six, but Trump said he plans to
announce his pick for the next chair very soon soon,
even joking that he could appoint himself because I do

(08:04):
a much better job than these people. The one with Powell, though, Powell,
is that you see him, he looks like a sweet dude,
just a nice guy. He's not returning fire.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
He never returns fire, but he does by not cutting
into straights.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
I'm not suggesting that he's doing it in any sort
of retaliatory way. It's just kind of funny. I'm sorry.
I don't know why that feud cracks me up so much.
All right, Next up on our run, Trump says, give
him two weeks. He says he needs that time to
decide whether or not to get the US military involved
in the conflict between Iran and Israel.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, the world has been watching, waiting and guessing what
the president might do ever since Israel launched that preemptive
strike on Iran's nuclear program a week ago. The two
countries have been trading missile strikes ever since.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
President Trump has given no clear indication publicly about which
way he was leaning, and he's even been incredibly and
perhaps intentionally vague, at one point, telling reporters I may
do it, I may not do it. He now says
he wants two weeks to allow for the possibility of
successful negotiations with Iran.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
We'll continue on the run here on this Friday morning
with TikTok. Well, it keeps getting kicked farther and farther
down the road that TikTok can yes, And President Trump
has now kicked it a little farther. He has signed
yet another extension of the deadline for shutting down the
app This is now the third such extension he is
signed this year.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Here's a little recap. Before you, Congress passed and Biden
signed a law that required TikTok to have a non
Chinese owner or it would have to shut down in
the US. That loss that a January twenty twenty five deadline,
But when no non Chinese owner was found by the
original deadline, President Trump signed a seventy five day extension.
When that seventy five days was up, he signed a

(09:45):
ninety day extension. That ninety days is now up, So
he just signed another ninety day extension.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
So all that she just said. Bottom line is this,
you one hundred and seventy million TikTok users in the US,
just keep doing your thing just until we get back
to this is the back and forth. It went down
for one day in January?

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Is that right? Maybe maybe maybe one day it went dark.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
It's back up. Knock yourselves out. They are not going
to let this thing shut down. I don't know why
we keep toying with deadlines, but just wanted to give
you that update, all right.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Next up on the run a recall to tell you
about that has already been linked to at least three
deaths and more than a dozen hospitalizations. Ready to eat
chicken fetichini Alfredo meals sold nationwide at Kroger and Walmart
have been voluntary recalled by its manufacturer, Fresh Realm, after
health officials have now connected it to a listeria outbreak.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
The three deaths here were in Illinois, Michigan, and Texas.
There was also a pregnancy loss and sixteen hospitalizations across
thirteen states. Federal officials say anyone who may have come
in contact with the meals should clean their refrigerators, containers,
and services because lysteria can survive in the fridge and
can easily spread to other foods. Speaking of its ability

(10:58):
to survive and spread, food and actors first detected this
outbreak strain back in August of last year, and then
again in March before this latest outbreak. That's disturbing. I've
heard some for them to say, you need to clean
the refrigerator and everything out.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
This is if you had this product, can please go
to the FDA's website and the CDC's website. They have
exactly what you're looking for in terms of the brand
and what it may have looked like. But yeah, it's
that serious, all right.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
So we're going to continue on the run here. When
we come back, stay with us. We have some pretty
disturbing news about some legends in the hip hop and
R and B World, Diddy of course, R Kelly, of course.
But now Fat Joe is being hit with an explosive
new lawsuit. Also, before we let you get out of

(11:46):
here today, we want to remind you of what happened
last night that's going to lead to one of the
greatest nights in sports of the year. Folks. We are
getting a Game seven.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Welcome back everyone to your Friday morning run. And next
up on the run, there are some eye popping and
deeply disturbing allegations being made against Grammy nominated rapper Fat
Joe all in a new twenty million dollar lawsuit. This
lawsuit is being brought by Joe's longtime hype man, Terrence Dixon.
He goes by TA and he worked with Joe for

(12:24):
sixteen years.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Okay, so this is someone who knows Joe well, who
has been with Joe on tour. But Dixon has made
countless now explosive allegations including and I quote here, coercive
labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual manipulation, violent intimidation, and psychological coercion.
He also claimed Joe forced him and I'm quoting once

(12:48):
again here into whom humiliating sex acts performed under duress
and surveillance, accompanied by threats of abandonment in foreign countries
if he refused to come clients. Dixon alto described being
quote compelled to perform sex acts under observation, being filmed
or directed by Fat Joe in the presence of others.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
That sounds familiar, doesn't it? It does by Dixon's estimation
according to the lawsuit, he was coerced into four thousand
sex acts.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Don't know how he came up with that number, but
that is the number he quoted in there. That's his estimation.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
And if that doesn't sound disturbing enough, apparently it gets worse,
and it does. Dixon is claiming to have witnessed Fat
Joe engaging in sex acts with fifteen and sixteen year
old girls. He specifically lists three Jane Doe miners with
details about how Joe allegedly gave them cash, clothing, paid
their cell phone bills, even had them travel to different

(13:47):
places to visit him.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
So Fat Joe's real name is Joseph Antonio Cartagana has
denied every word. He called it complete fabrications and says
the lawsuit is actually retaliatory Joe's lawyer put this statement out,
saying the lawsuit is a blatant act of retaliation, a
desperate attempt to deflect attention from the civil suit we
filed first, which exposed their coordinated scheme to extort mister

(14:11):
Cartagena through lies, threats, and manufactured allegations. I should stop
there and say, Joe sued I think a defamation claim
because on social media, Dixon was out there saying some
of this stuff, so he filed a suit against him.
So they say this is now retaliation. But this is
important to note. The lawyer's statement goes on to say
that law enforcement is aware of the extortionate demand of

(14:36):
the at the heart of this scheme. The allegations against
mister Cartagenia are complete fabrications, lies intended to damage his reputation.
So they're saying they're getting the police involved and saying
this is extortion, and the police are looking into it
is their claim that they're saying publicly.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Now all right, I mean that's some heavy, heavy, heavy accusations.
It sound a lot like well our next story, yes,
the did he trial, which will apparently resume this morning.
We think court was off yesterday for the Juneteenth holiday
and unexpectedly off the day before that, which was Wednesday,
because of a sick juror.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
So testimony is expected to resume today, with the prosecution
calling Brendan Paul, who worked as a personal assistant to Colmbs.
He's been trying to testify for days, Yes he has.
They've had him ready to go, but things keep getting
pushed back. He is going to be testifying under immunity.
The prosecution only has two or three witnesses left and
had hoped to rest its case by today at the latest.

(15:30):
Is what they said. That now appears unlikely. When they
are done. Diddy's defense team says they will only need
two to five days to put on its.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Case, and today we'll conclude. The sixth then arguably the
most eventful, even despite the fact that we didn't have
two days of court. Yes, one juror was dismissed. We
found out another juror's fate is up in the air
after possibly discussing the trial with a friend. We may
hear about that today. Court was canceled, of course, on
Wednesday because of the sick juror, and the judge has
threatened the lawyers with criminal contempt. A sensitive information was

(16:01):
leaked to the press.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
You make a good point off two days, but an
eventful week.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Exactly all that going on?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
All right, We'll continue on the run here with R. Kelly.
A fascinating story that certainly jumped out at you this
week road. But a judge has now officially denied R.
Kelly's request to be released from prison. Shocker. He wanted
to go to home detention after he claimed that prison
officials try to have him murdered. The judge canceled a
hearing that was scheduled for today on the matter, making
a ruling on Thursday instead, saying Kelly has not demonstrated

(16:30):
a legal basis for this court's jurisdiction. Accordingly, his emergency
motion is denied.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Kelly's attorney responded to the ruling, saying, you know, they're
not surprised. They knew there was jurisdictional issues, but they
say they had no choice to act immediately given the
explicit evidence of the threat to Robert Kelly's life. Lawyer
also said they planned to file in motion to vacate
Kelly's convictions in Chicago based on claims of new evidence.

(16:56):
We don't know what that new evidence is. Kelly is
serving thirty years for racketeering and sex crime convictions in
New York. He's also serving a simultaneous twenty year sentence
for his twenty twenty two child porn conviction in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Or Kelly not only claims prison officials try to enlist
a fellow inmate who is a leader of the Aryan
Brotherhood to try and kill him, he also says they
try to overdose him with his own medication. Prosecutors in
this case have said Kelly is fanciful and deeply unseerious
about all this, and went on to call him a
prolific child molester and left it at that.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
All right, let's move on to some happier news for
the final leg of our run, At least happy for
TJ's exactly.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
For you too.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
We get a game seven. I'm reading tjscript here he
wrote for me. Yes, we have been blessed by the
basketball gods. Are you kidding me? Right now? The NBA
Finals will go to a game seven.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Sometimes prayers get answered. Ah, Yes, this is a big deal. Look,
you like the super Bowl, that's one game to decide
a champion. We are getting one game now to decide
that twenty twenty five NBA Champion. After the Indiana Pacers
took care of business last night. In Game six, they
beat Oklaoba City Thunder one O nine to ninety one.
They were up to twenty points at points during this game,
so they kind of were in charge. They did this

(18:11):
without their best player being at full strength, Tyrese Halliburt,
and we talked about he was a game time decision.
Weren't sure if he was going to play. He had
injured his calf in the previous game, but he got
out there. Give him credit, he grinded it out. He
was limited in minutes, but he still ended up for
fourteen points and helped his team. This is the first
robes game seven in the NBA Finals since twenty sixteen.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
I didn't know. That's see why you're so rare, So
let me have this one. I feel like it always
goes to game seven, But maybe I'm just because I'm
waiting for it to be over.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
You know, you know why, because there are so many
other rounds and so many other games that it.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Fills, so so many got all right, before we let
you get out of here, we got two things we
want to hit you with, but one of them, as
always our quote of the day.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Try to take this with you, and it is a
great one, Ropes.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
If you are depressed, you are living in the past.
If you are anxious, you are living in the future.
If you are at peace, you are living in the present.
Boh damn, isn't that true?

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Love it?

Speaker 1 (19:10):
I had never heard it put that way. This is
from a Chinese philosopher, allowed to but man, he nailed it.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
It's that simple. What are you feeling right now? If
you're feeling depressed or anxious, you're doing something wrong.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Yeah, you're either living in the past or the future.
I never thought about it like that, but that is
such a good way to remind yourself. If you're feeling
depes hey, why am I living in the past. What's
right in front of me right now? How can I
shift my energy? How can I shift my thought pattern?
And if you're feeling anxious, it's because you're anticipating something,
You're worried about something your future. Casting stop live in

(19:46):
the present.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
So take that with you one more time. If you
are depressed, you are living in the past. If you're anxious,
you're living in the future. If you are at peace,
you are living in the present. One more thing I
want to remind you about. Robocka and I do have
a new relationship advice column with Yah Who. You can
find it in the Life section. We just launched it
last week, so every week we will have a companion
podcast to go with it. We're going to put it

(20:08):
up tomorrow and let you chime in on the question
that was asked of us by Jennifer M.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yes, Jennifer M. This is the summation of her question
to us. But she asks, or says, my husband of
two years is suddenly telling people he married me out
of obligation. How do I deal? Jennifer says she made
peace with her longtime partner, but then he suddenly proposed
and they got married. So she asks Amy and TJ

(20:36):
what to do about this change of tune and we
weigh in. We have a podcast that we'll talk about
a little deeper about why we felt the way we
did about Jennifer M's question. But I think even more
fun we read some of your comments you all wide
in chimed in on the Yahoo article, and we really
get the conversation going because of what you all had

(20:56):
to say, So we really encourage you if you haven't
read the column, please go back and read the whole
thing and way in leave a comment, and then listen
to the podcast, and again, feel free to dm us
let us know what you think. We love to hear
where you are on some of these relationship dilemmas.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
All right, Folkson, With all that, we always appreciate you
running with us. Yes, run with us Monday through Friday.
But yes we run with you Saturday and Sunday all
the way through the weekend as well. But for now,
I'm TJ.

Speaker 1 (21:21):

this wonderful, long bright summer solstice Friday,
