Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, and welcome to Morning Run. It is Thursday,
January eighth. I'm Amy Robot and I'm TJ.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Holmes.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Much different look to New York today. The fog has lifted.
We are going to get almost spring like in New
York today, isn't they.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
What they tell?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yes, And it's all relative because other parts of the
country would be laughing at us.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
We're jumping for joy because we're gonna hit fifty degrees.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Yeah, it's been feels like ten for the last couple
of weeks, So yes, everyone, it's funny if you go
to La and it's fifty, people are in winter coats
with gloves and hats. You come to New York City
when it's fifty and people have tank tops on.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Hey, it's all relative. As you say, wherever you all
may be, hope you are having a good start to
your day on the run this morning. You mentioned Los Angeles. Yes,
Los Angeles will be one of the legs of our
run this morning. We'll also make stops to the house
Floor in DC, Salt Lake City, as well as Corpus Christi, Texas,
and Pittsburgh. But the first leg of our run, as
(01:04):
you could guess, we have to begin in Minneapolis.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
That's right where that woman who was shot and killed
by an ICE agent yesterday has now been identified.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
She is a thirty seven year old mother. She is
an American.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
Citizen, she is a Twin City resident, and her name
is Renee Nicole Good. Crowds gathered last night around individil
that popped up at the scene. In fact, we're told
thousands of people showed up in just a few block radius.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
But it was.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Peaceful and they were remembering Good. But meanwhile, there are
two very different narratives that are playing out over that
video that we've all seen with our own two eyes,
and yet so many opinions.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
We've all seen the same thing, but different opinion about
what we are seeing. Those two different opinions are coming from,
yes the administration and from democratic let's say Democratic leaders
in Minnesota. First off, Christy Nome, Department of Homeland Security.
They reiterated their stance yesterday that the woman is and
I'm quoting them, a domestic terrorists who threatened the agents
with a weapon, which was her car. Meanwhile, Minnesota officials,
(02:09):
in particular the governor and the Mayor of Minnesota. Of Minneapolis,
I should say, had some very strong words at least
the mayor, did you have heard and seeing that everywhere
the profanity he used, telling Ice to get out, also
saying it's bs the video that you're seeing in the
narrative from the other side. But the governor there, we
gave him credit. Governor Walt's calls where everybody to please
(02:30):
stay calm, go protest if you'd like to, but don't
give the administration a reason to come in here and
use violent tactics if you will. So they did make
it through the evening of our visuals and protests, as
you mentioned Rose, but for the most part in Minneapolis
and around the country other cities, it was peaceful.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
And that was certainly a relief, all right. Next up
on the run was a deadly mass shooting last night.
It happened outside of a chapel where a funeral was
taking place. So two people were killed, six others wounded,
and a manhunt is underway as of this recording.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And they say they don't know if they're looking for
one suspect or multiple suspects after this thing. It was
at the Church of Jesus Christ, of Latter Day Saints Chapel.
This was in a parking lot where some altercation broke
out and three people are in critical conditions still as
of this recording. Next up on the Run here as
we continue on this Thursday morning run, the trial of
the Uvalde police officer accused of failing to act during
(03:26):
the shooting at the school there. That trial is going
to continue today after the judge yesterday refused to grant
a mistrial.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Adrian Gonzalez is facing twenty nine counts of child endangerment.
He was the first and one of the first officers
on the scene, but he chose not to enter the
school or to engage the shooter. He stayed on his
radio just talking about what he was seeing and hearing,
but he did not take action. So testimony started Tuesday.
(03:55):
It was suspended after the defense accused prosecutors of withholding information.
A particular witness, a former third grade teacher there at
rob Elementary, changed where she said she saw Adrian Gonzalez
in relation to the shooter. She claimed he was much
closer than previously or that her previous statements, but the
(04:15):
judge said that does not amount to a mistrial. So
testimony will resume this morning and we.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Will continue on the run now. And one day President
Trump was calling the guy a sick man. The next
day he was inviting that sick man to the White House.
The sick man in question, President Gustavo Petro of Colombia.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Did this shock you to see this? Well, you know what.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
To say Trump has had. I guess, mum, Donnie is
the last one I think about where he has such
strong words as if he would never even be in
the same room with the person. And then all of
a sudden, every buddy, budy.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yeah, that is an interesting thing. And so turns out
looks like there was I guess a better discourse between
the two. So yes, Columbia was on Trump's naughty list
of nations. By the he actually mentioned them as a
place he might go after next after taking out Madure.
But this is what Trump posted yesterday and quite a
(05:10):
different tone. It was a great honor to speak with
the President of Columbia, Gustavo Petro, who called to explain
the situation of drugs and other disagreements that we have had.
I appreciated his call and tone and look forward to
meeting him in the near future. Arrangements are being made
between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Foreign Minister
of Colombia. That meeting will take place in the White
(05:33):
House in Washington, d C.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
This was a guy, he said, had cocaine mills. This
was the day before, twenty four hours before. Don't know
what changed in that phone call, but something changed dramatically.
Let's turn down to Venezuela, the country. He said. One
hundred people died in that US operation last weekend to
capture Maduro, most of been part of Maduro's security force.
The governments says they were killed in cold blood.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Meanwhile, US force has seized two more oilers yesterday carrying
Venezuelan oil, one in the Atlantic it was headed east.
It was heading east from Venezuela, and another off the
coast of Iceland. The administration has said the US will
take thirty to fifty barrels of Venezuelan oil, sell it
at market price, and then use the proceeds to benefit
(06:18):
the American people and the Venezuelan people. So what will
Venezuelans do with the proceeds from those oil sales? Spend
it on American goods.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
They're going to give it right back to us, Give
it right back to us. We're going to take you oil.
We're going to sell you oil. They give you the
money from the old that you're going to give right
back to us an American goods. Yes, the President wrote
on social media yesterday, I have just been informed that
Venezuela is going to be purchasing only American made products
with the money they receive from our new oil deal.
These purchases will include, among other things, American agricultural products
(06:52):
and American made medicines, medical devices, and equipment to improve
Venezuela's electric grid and energy facilities. In other words, Venezuela
is committing to doing business with the United States of
America as their principal partner. A wise choice and a
very good thing for the people Venezuela and the United States.
That is what the President said. Chris Murphy, the Senator
(07:15):
from Democrat from Connecticut, I think not America Connecticut right.
His quote has been all over the place. In the
press conference, he was just incredulous. He said, we are
literally taking their oil at gunpoint and then telling you
we are using that as a negotiating ploy to make
sure you do business with the United States. He said,
it's just.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Absolutely it's gangster, is what It sounds like.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
This is some gangster issue that the government is doing.
We just jacked their oil and giving them money and
telling them they have to give it back to us
by buying our products. Some people will say that is
America first. Someone say this'd be good for American business.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Others say it sets a dangerous precedent.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Man oh man.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
And imagine if it were reversed in any way, shape
or form, in any yes, in even a small.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Form, imagine how that would go over all?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Right, Next up on the run, did you see the
new federal dietary guidelines. They actually flipped the food pyramid
and a lot of people have been saying this is
long overdue, long overdue, and the emphasis is now on
proteins and healthy fats. But they also adjusted the guidelines
on alcohol consumption.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yes, we've been here, everybody can probably quote it now.
The guidelines forever men two drinks a day, You should
limit women one drink a day. Everybody knows that. Well,
they are throwing that out. So how many drinks should
you have?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Now?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Just less?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
That's all, just limit.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yes, they're just saying use it in moderation. You should limit.
Doctor Oz actually said, if I had my way in
a perfect world, there's no reason to drink. There is
no health benefit at all. There is no healthy amount
of consumption, is the argument. So there are no specifics anymore,
they're just saying limited. He called it a social lubricant.
Did you like?
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Yes, I was actually gonna say that. I thought that
was an interesting way to put it.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
That is true, a social lubricant, he said, it has
no other use than to bring people together, And yes,
that can happen. But I think a lot of people
could point to alcohol and say it tears a lot
of people apart too, So you know, I think that's
a fair statement as well. We've been hearing this for
a long time that there is no healthy or safe
amount of alcohol. It is a poison and certainly has
(09:22):
addictive properties. And we are seeing a massive decline in
alcohol sales, mostly driven by younger folks who are turning
to cannabis and other products to unwind and relax.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Is that not that you would say, hey, stop drinking
and go do this drug. But there are plenty of folks,
including your doctors, who would prefer you using marijuana than
they would alcohol.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Correct, as a cancer survivor, alcohol is obviously they It's
not like it might be a connection.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Absolutely is.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
There is a connection between alcohol use and breast cancer specifically.
So yes, I was told that moderate your drinking and
feel free to have some marijuana.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Well I have to say you should probably moderate your marija.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Obviously everything should be.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
I am just kidding. I am just kidding. We do
not have plants growing in the house. But stay with
us here on this Thursday morning, Ron. When we come back, folks,
we need to clear this up, and Netflix needs to
clear it up too. Do not expect another secret episode
of Stranger Things will explain. Also, Pittsburgh losing its largest
(10:30):
and oldest newspaper and the longest serving Democrat in Congress
has decided to call it quits.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Welcome back everyone to your morning, Ron. I actually had to.
I took a pause there because I couldn't remember what
day of the week it was. It's Thursday aka Friday Eve. Yeah,
we're coming out of that holiday stretch where I truly
didn't know what day it was. So, yes, it is Thursday.
Everyone twixts it was TwixT us, yes, and now we're
back in the swing of things, or at least trying
(11:06):
to get there. Next up on the run, the longest
serving Democrat in Congress says he's done serving.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Stenny Hoyer.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
We all know his name, Democrat from Maryland, but I
didn't realize how old he was. He has been around forever.
As long as I can remember reporting, Stenny Hoyer has
been a part of the coverage.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
He's eighty six years.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Old, and he gave his speech on the House floor
this morning's announcing it.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Oh yeah, he's as of this recording, he hasn't hit
it yet. Obviously we're early people, but he yeah, he's
supposed to be ten o'clock Eastern time. I do believe.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Okay, So he was first elected in nineteen eighty one.
To give you some perspective on that, I hadn't even
started grade school.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
It's just wild to think that I'm sitting here now.
I was a child, not even in grade school when
this dude first got to Congress.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Wow, that is remarkable. I was in grade school but
still a child.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yes, and he was the majority leader under Nancy Pelosi,
which I get I forgot, but yes, of course, I
mean that's his name. Has just been synonymous with Congress
when you think about it. So that is the end
of an era.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
And you know what, it's kind of a strong stinny Hoya.
That's something about that great name.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
It's a great name.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Continuing on the run here now some unfortunate news coming
out of Pittsburgh about its largest and oldest newspaper. It
is shutting down. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is going to
have its final addition on May third and cease to operate.
Robes day like look media has been going through it
for decades now in a decline. But they also had
a legal battle there with the union that represents journalists.
(12:35):
So they lost kind of a court case and a
court battle something they were hoping to do to move
down the road. And they say, we can't survive it,
so they are shutting down. I don't know how they've
survived this long three hundred and fifty million dollars in
losses the past twenty years.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
They say, yeah, And that's another really sad sign of
the times. But that is just the way things are aheaded.
People aren't buying newspapers, they aren't reading magazines, they aren't
watching broadcast news. So yes, everyone has to adjust, but
it certainly is.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
It's really sad. It's sad, all right. Next up on
the run and this is the.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Final leg of our run and hopefully finally putting an
end to all of these rumors. There is not another
secret Stranger Things episode yet to be released. People all
thought it was going to happen yesterday, right January seventh,
and it didn't happen. It's not gonna happen, and it's
not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Because Netflix says that if you want to believe them,
but they had to update. This all got confusing because
they did have a promo for something else that went out.
They put up on social media and it said January seventh,
and I can't remember the language, but it wasn't a
tease for Stranger Things. It was something else, completely different,
and folks tried to piece it together and say, maybe
there's another episode. They even have a name for the
(13:49):
other episode. I didn't know where that came from, actually eight,
but they thought the episode had a particular name. Even so,
Netflix now is trying to make it clear the show
was over, folks.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yeah, it was conformity gait or something was what they
were trying to say, and it was something about January
seventh and numerology, and I honestly I read it and
read it five different times and laughed because I couldn't
follow what the conspiracy or what the controversy or how
people read between the lines.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
But one of someone's comment online made me laugh.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
They said, how do I get off this Stranger Thing's
finale fake out algorithm? Because it's really ruining the experience
of what I considered to be an all time classic finale.
And so if you were a huge fan of it,
and you are, you know, everyone talks about the algorithms
they're on on their social media. People were complaining that
they were just getting inundated to the point where it
was affecting their experience of the finale and putting it
(14:44):
to rest.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
And so it's in their heads that.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Maybe yes, and it was messing with their heads, which
I thought was so funny.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
It's over, folks, according to Netflix, but hey, you never know, yes,
all right, before we let you go, something als I
always want to leave you with. It is our quote
of the day, Robes. I was a little hesitant, nervous
at first about giving you this one was wondering what
you were going to say. What I came around, you'll
be okay, here's your quote. The wealthiest place on the
(15:13):
planet is the graveyard because it's filled with hopes, aspirations,
ideas and dreams never acted upon. It's that thought. I mean,
I know this is from my pastor, but this idea
that there is so much that just never you never pursue.
(15:37):
There are great ideas that were never even tried. They
were dreams never fulfilled or never even pursued. I love
the idea that you go to a grave thing and
you if you were able to, you can't ask all
those people what didn't you do? What didn't you try?
You would have so many ideas and things popping off.
(15:57):
So the way he put it, the wealthiest place on
the plant is the graveyard because yeah, it's full of rich,
richness and ideas that nobody ever pursued. So just a
reminder got to go for it.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
I love the idea death is the ultimate teacher and
knowing that it's coming for all of us should be
the ultimate motivator. And it's not about and I hate
the shoulds in life, but I do think sometimes we
do need a little kick in the ass or a
little jumpstart to remind ourselves that hey, we're here right now.
You got this, so go live your life, Go be
(16:29):
the best version of yourself.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Don't wait for tomorrow, don't wait for next week.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
All of this news, all of these headlines that we've
been talking about over the past couple of months, it seems,
and I know we say this a lot, but man,
this has been an exceptionally busy, traumatic time and it's
just a reminder that we have it's on us.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
We are the stewards of our own ships. So I
love that.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
So folks, take that with you today. The wealthiest place
on the planet is the graveyard because it's filled with hopes, aspirations,
ideas and dreams never acted upon. And with that, we
always appreciate you running with us. So now I'm TJ.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Holk and I'm Amy Robot. Have a great day, everybody,
go realize those dreams.
