Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone. Before we dive in today's episode, we want
to acknowledge the recent devastating wildfires in our city of
Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
This episode, which features our discussion of season five episode eleven,
City of Angels, was recorded prior to the devastating wildfires.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Our hearts go out to everyone affected, and we're keeping
the entire community in our thoughts.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
We just want to thank the firefighters, the first responders
and volunteers and all of you who have donated to
this incredible city. It's been remarkable to see the community
pull together from not just locally but all around the world.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah, we love the city.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
I've looked here for twenty one years. Yeah, and the
amount of people that have shown up and shown out
and seeing the tireless work of the firefighters and these
crazy terrains running towards fire has just been remarkable and
have saved a lot of our communities.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
We encourage you to consider supporting organizations providing relief and
age those impacted.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Here.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
You can check out on our notes some of them,
but just make sure that they are legit and valid
before you donate. Thank you for understanding. We hope you
enjoyed this episode and we love Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
And that's what you really missed with Jenna.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
And Kevin An iHeartRadio podcast.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Welcome to and That's what you really miss Podcasts, Season five,
Episode eleven, City of Angels. We are in Nationals.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Finally, it's a long Finally, it's been a season and
a half. It took us eighteen years to get here.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Eighty four years.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
The other thing is too, is like in between seasons,
we all come back and we look a little different.
Everybody has a lot of hair, like this is the
same school year.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Right, everybody looks different. They've made jokes too about how
long this year?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Ian has the recaps in the beginning.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
This recap was also funny. I can't remember what it
was that made me gig, but it was really funny.
Good story, Jenna, Yeah, you're welcome everybody.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
So this episode, I finished this episode and obviously was
not emotionally well, and then I was like, well, what's
next episode? Watched it not emotionally well, and I was like, well,
what's after that? And then I like skimmed it and
I was like no, because there's two episodes with everybody
(02:32):
back like one hundred. It's sort of like a part
one and part two.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Right, one hundred and a new direction.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yes, right, and I think when and we mentioned this before,
but the way that we get into talking about Finn
over these next few episodes, it's a lot. It's a lot,
but also feels better and like comparatively to like what
(02:59):
the quarterback did. It feels like a nice way. Every
character is getting to have their moment. And this episode
where you get into it, yeah, and Carol are around
through it. Yeah, and you finally see you know what
we were saying before, where like we were just sort
of like ignoring it. Yeah, like Katie and Gaga, we're
doing all these we're doing blurred lines, We're doing crazy things.
(03:22):
To me. It also not to get too cerebral about it,
but it also is a bit like how grief actually
works for some people. Yes, where you push it down and.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
It comes back at the weirdest time and then.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
It comes back and like, now that's all we're going
to talk about, right because we have to. And that's
like these next series of episodes I think feel very
like healing in a way for the characters, and we're
finally getting to see them what it's like to live
with the absence of Finn.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Well, I mean I think that that's the truth. Like
we're watching the process of grief happening on these people,
and the impact that Finn had versus the quarterback, which
felt like you're literally like stepping into a funeral. Very
it's very different than being able to reflect on all
of that. You're like, oh, right, that's nice. It's actually
(04:16):
really nice the impact where you had, the impact Finn had. Yeah,
and like, like you said, the process and the healing
of it all, not the actual grief.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
And I think it's also because like the writers also
had to figure out yeah, of course what they were doing,
and also the grief of that as well. So it's
sort of like this weird real time.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yeah, it was a nice way to honor him. There
was like a lot of honoring him in these and
it was like, yeah, oh that feels good. We're like
looking back on him smiling and like, you know, walking
down the hallway and all these good memories. Yeah, okay,
well we'll get into this whole episode, Kevin. But what
was going on in the news.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
So this episode originally aired March eleven, twenty fourteen. The
number one song in the country was Happy by for
Out which we're about to see in a couple episodes
or next episode. Yeah, the number one movie was the
sequel to three hundred, three hundred Rids of an Empire. Right,
is that the sequel? I think it's a sequel. I
don't know. Maybe the movie is it is that there?
Speaker 3 (05:17):
I don't know, but I haven't seen either of them. Okay,
But more importantly, I'll never forget that when three hundred
came out, they were like all the extras were like
computerized AI kind of thing, and it was like, really weird.
I remember being like, what the heck, it's so strange?
Now and here we are, all right in Glean News
this week. On March eleventh, Glee The Music City of
(05:38):
Angels EP was released. The EP future six tracks from
episode eleven of season five was released for digital download only.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
What an EP?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I love these songs, Jenna, You've never said it best. Thanks,
I was just tenus swansong. On March fourteenth, Chris Darren,
Lee Accord Kevin film scene from episode fourteen coming up
New York, New York in Washington Square Park. You got
to go to New York?
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I did? I sure did?
Speaker 3 (06:10):
So fascinating. There's actually like paparazzi photos of you guys outside.
This is so crazy to see you in New York, Kevin.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
But it was also when I was in and we'll
talk about it more when we get there.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
But our crew was there.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It's Cord wearing a wig.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Because he cut his hair and he had to go
back to sarazzi photos.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Like he's wearing a full on wig.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
It's a pretty good wig, but good catch, Kevin. Yeah,
his hair looks very kept. There.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
You see an Ethnicole canman movies, you learn how to
spot away.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
We can't watch other shows.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Won't work for us, wait for context. Because we were
talking about when we get done watching Glee, what are
we gonna do? And we talked about we could watch
other shows, but we're both critical bitches and so very
kind to Yeah, we're very kind.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
This is like a very different side of us you're seeing.
And then if you saw this, you'd be like, is
that Jonmine?
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Kevin didn't even watch a Cold Kevin movie? And I
just said that, you're right, You're right. It was Veris dude.
Oh god, we'd be canceled so fast. No one would
ever want to work with us, even more than they
already don't.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
It's just like the songs in this episode. Like Kevin said,
the is very good. This is I Love La, which
I thought was an original song. But it's not what
I know. I don't know what. It's a random human song.
I know this now. You think it's like sounds like
an original song.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Why, Jennet, why does it sound like an original song?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
It's not. It wasn't in the top forty okay, which
is like the only music I.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Know it was at some point, yes, uh, that was
before my.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Will the New Directions on Our double Ducker Bus.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Vacation by the Amazonians.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Oh My Gosh, Mister Roberto and Counting Stars, a mash
Up by Styx and One Republic performed by Throat Explosion.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
More than a Feeling by Boston performed by New Directions,
America jen Singing, and still Haven't Found what I'm looking
For by You Two performed.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
By Kevin's Singing There and in America Too Okay. This
is the third competition to feature celebrities as judges. The
first time was in Journey, and the second and Nationals.
I feel like there were more of.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Those I also wanted. I'm sure they filmed scenes and
they probably got cut for time, right, don't And yeah,
you don't have Marley and Jacka there.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
To not Marlee. We became so tight with Marley. Yeah,
and she is the best and jack her longtime best
friend interpreter, Like he is just a gentle with a human.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
It's just with her and Jackie like people who have
worked for so long. Yeah, that vibe on set, like oh,
these are legends. Yeah, any winners oscar winners.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Literally and they're just racing.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Us down to like hang out. It's like the John
Stamos vibe where those people show up and like want
to chill, want to know what's going on and immerse
themselves into like the culture of process.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
They're not like, oh, I'll just sit in my trailer.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yeah. Skylar Aston is the fourth Original Spring Awakening member
WOW to appear Ugly three being Leah Michelle, Jonathan Groff
and Phoebe Stroll.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Amanda Balen and Montana. Those are Lady Gaga dancers. They
are a part of our episode. Amanda is one of
the three Cheerios to join New Directions, and Montana is
a member of the Road Explosion.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Amanda I was like sort of starstruk Montana and Amanda
on like you'll recognize them. Yeah, if you record Lady
Gaga Dancer. They were Gotga dancers for years, yes, and
so good and they're so nice.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I also like, I like that it wasn't talked about
all that. We just had like actually like dancers in
New Directions that we didn't know at all.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Well, it's like when we it's not the first time
the directions have done that.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
No, I know, but we just like didn't speak of it.
And then I was like, oh, like on the bus, yeah,
you're like high friends, like hi people not going to
acknowledge the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
They were supposed to be an original song in this episode.
It is unknown if it was ever filmed or recorded.
Do you know if that's true.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I don't think it was recorded. I don't think so either,
and maybe that I feel like that would have been online.
Something that makes sense about like the Marley storyline right
right right right.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
We didn't need it.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
We didn't New Directions performed Finn's favorite songs, and these
were allegedly all of Cory's favorite songs in real life.
I actually don't know if this is true or not,
but I could see definitely see you two being some
of Corey's favorite songs in real life or ones that
he is mentioned in interviews for the show you know
(11:00):
what I mean, or like things he would want to do.
Brad Foulchow is a huge Springsteen fan, so that didn't
surprise me.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
We did do Springsteen. Oh oh, dear.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
My fans. Is Neil Diamond America's Neil Diamond? What is
wrong with me? What song am I thinking of? Born
in the Usa? Which is about America? Actually?
Speaker 2 (11:29):
So uh.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Neil Diamond? Okay? But I would imagine that these are
songs that Corey has talked about in public.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
You must have Yeah. As of this episode, Mercedes is
the only New Directions alumni who has been to all
New Directions competition performances.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
She's like great. This episode features the first and only
competition of the fifth season. Took long Enough to give You?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
And this is the first episode of season five in
which Rachel doesn't sing wow.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
And this is the last episode of the season in
which you meet Kitty and Jake saying, oh, we're getting there.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
I know.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
That's what I keep thinking all these episodes, like is
this it? Is this the one? This is also the
last time Jake sings in the series.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
And this is the first and only Nationals episode that
Jesse Saint James doesn't appearance.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Wow. So this episode, the members of New Directions travel
to sunny Los Angeles to compete in Nationals and bring
with them to very special guests.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Well, the whole thing is Nationals, So it's Nationals. It's
Nationals people. We're going to LA and we're bringing Bert
and Carol with us.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Which is a nice surprise and also just a gut
punch in. But it happens in the very outset of
this episode. Sam gets brought in to talk to Will
about Finn was our leader. If I need to call
on you, You're the one to step up. And he's like, no,
I can't do that. He's like, you're my guy. We
got to do this right, and he takes it very seriously.
(13:07):
And I feel like it was very appropriate to have
that be the storyline because in real life there was
this bond between Corey and Cord.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yes, and that was a special friendship.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, and it felt as their friend Yes. Watching Sam's
whole storyline this episode was very deeply moving but also
like deeply satisfying because I feel like I don't know
if people know that I've how close they were.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
I think I've just assumed like I forget that, like
we know that. So that's a good point.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
And it was. It's just a really beautiful storyline strung
throughout the entire episode of him stepping up and taking
ownership of the glee club, especially when Burt and Carroll
come in and say, oh god, it was I forgot
they come in there, and there's a lot of it
if you can, if you watched the quarterback and when
(14:06):
we talked about it, you see us crying and like
how real that is, but like we were not happy
to be there. Right, every time Michaelmalley and Romy speak,
we are all in tears, but we're like smiling because
it's the way they fill up a room with Like
(14:27):
they both are so warm. Yes, And what you feel
from those characters is how do they feel as real
people as well in real life? And so it was
really our first time being able to be around them
in this way where a lot of it mimicked life.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Right. They're so thoughtful and always having me those two
adults around there, always like very sound in their advice
and how they like led us as a company sometimes
and gave us like advice as veterans who had worked
before on big shows and such, and seeing us at
such a young age hit it so big. From the beginning,
(15:04):
They've always been like parental figures to us, so like
to have them and also have them connected to Finn
as deeply as they were both on screen and off,
it was like very satisfying as well, like they picked
all the right people for this episode to honor Finn
or you know, go through that journey to start this
(15:27):
like whole journey that you talked about before, and it's
really I also really liked how like honest it was
with Carol like not being able to be there.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Yeah, and I know we before we started recording. You're
like Tina said this stupid thing when they get to
la and there in the hotel room. Yeah, but I
don't think it was stupid. I think it was really
necessary in the episode because it also is that what
you're referring to by.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Yeah, yeah, or one of the other stupid things.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
It reminds you that like they are kids, yeah, their kids,
and like it's so easy to get caught up.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Well, they just have the perspective as adults, like of
being parents and you know, being wiser and having seen
things and like lived experience. And then there we are
thinking we know everything and saying all these things of
like not knowing how to quite appreciate from their perspective.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Yet we never get like the outside view because Schuster
and Sue fully participate in high school antics. Yeah, every
single episode. Yes, I think having Burton Carroll there gives
you this like outside look, this like reality check, and
you're like, oh, right, what were you think is a
big deal? Every single day in high school, even with
(16:42):
some of the adults is not right. And but the
flip side of that is and I think what I
think how Romy delivered this just was phenomenal and moving
because it was like, well, no, you should be allowed
to voice those opinions. You didn't do anything wrong, because
is what would she give to have Finn be there,
(17:03):
to be able to voice what seemingly stupid, irrational, emotional
young opinions or thoughts and feelings, right, Like it's a
privilege to be that young and to like make stupid.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
Comments, right, and then also like just row me as
a mother of a grieving mother, Oh God, saying things
like that, that's grief coming out, you know what I mean,
and lashing out in ways that you wouldn't normally standing
very logical and sound in their thoughts and anyway, hands
out to Roam in this episode because every time she
(17:36):
speaks everything she does, you're like, God, she's so good.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Burne Carroll just continue to be like models of stellar parenting.
Like they just say all the right things and it
doesn't ever feel corny, right, It's like we're hitting you
over the head with a lesson. Never, it never feels like.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
That even when it's written like that sometimes because it
can be they flip it on its head.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
And I don't know if I feel like I don't
know what the dynamic is of like who's writing those things.
But Brad Foulchuk was always writing I think a lot
of the Michael Maley or Shuster things, and Ryan was
coming up with a lot of that as well. Yeah,
But the way they've given voice to Bert and Carroll
to be those like anchors on the show, it's always
(18:29):
worked perfectly. It has never there was one episode or
where Bert comes in like what is happening? I forgot
what it was.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
It was the one where he came back and they
did single Ladies.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, it was like that one episode the only time
it's ever faltered for me. But besides that has been
like one of the most consistent things through this series.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
For sure. Carol and Burt are going to come on
the as chaperones, and then romy Carrol is going to
realize that maybe this is all too much for her,
So they're going to actually leave and they pack up
and they go and they drive home well seemingly before
our Nationals performance, and then they're going to turn around
(19:09):
and they're going to come back and they're going to
see this this wonderful performance, which I'm glad they did
because watching them in the audience. Also, I'm already very
fragile from watching this Nationals like really broke me.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
You can't cutch A. Burt and Carol no, like always
will break my heart. So we got to go to
La on the show.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Our heres just got to go to this.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
We got to come home, which means we all we
did was film out in our neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
Yeah exactly. I was like, my house is like right there.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Oh yeah, we passed all of our sites.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
We got to go on a double decker bus, and
I have to say that was a ridiculous day. It
was a really long day on the bus. It was
like a whole day on the bus.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
I did not enjoy it. I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Here's what I think my memory is, like we did
enjoy it, but my body didn't while we were actually
there because it was a really long day and I
remember having to actually like we got on the bus
and then we stopped at Pinks and like got off
the double decks. I liked that we didn't get like
transpoted there or like stop the trailer. We were just
like on the go. And maybe that's why we didn't
(20:23):
like it so much, because like we didn't have like
our trailers to go back to our like breaks. We
were just on so being on the bus though, I
have a video of it, and I don't remember if
you remember this cameradar. We were like it was like north.
We were in Hollywood and we were going up towards
like Griffith Park, which is you know, towards the observatory
for people who don't know La all that well. And
(20:45):
there's basically it was to get us seeing the Hollywood
sign right, you can see it like straight up beach
Wood and We're going up the bus and there's cameras
on the top, there's the crew on the top, and
then all of us are sitting on the top and
I remember them saying like, okay, now everybody duck, and yes,
(21:09):
there's a tree that is so low that it actually
hits the bus. And you hear like yes, and everybody
is screaming like bloody murder. Alex is screaming, I forgot
about that, and I'm like, what is going on? And
I think that's that was the start of it. We
were like and then we're turning around and going back
that road.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yes, it's all coming back to me.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Celine Dion, Yes, and and I remember being like, wow, okay,
here we are.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
The other thing is when you see these double decker buses,
they're like these bright, shiny red buses. That's not what
we were on. We were on some old one from
like the seventies. It literally had like wooden paneling on
the side of it. It was not painted red. It
was very very strange. It was very old. It's like, what,
(22:02):
surely we have budget and you had.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
To like stand they had to like stand it and
doing choreography on the top of the.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Boss sunburn was getting burned.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
We were all wearing like hats and sunglasses like LA
tourists gear that they had had for props that we
had to put on because we were like dying in
the heat and we had Then they were like okay,
replay and like the buses moving and we're like shaking,
and I just remember being like, what a nightmare.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
It's also so funny of how if you if you
go online and see reactions to certain like tours that
come through LA and people complaining about the Los Angeles audience. Yeah,
LA like historically has like the worst audiences because everyone
like works in entertainment and everyone is jaded and unimpressed.
(22:48):
And when we would film in New York, when you
watch those episodes, you see hundreds of people watching us film.
We were we were all around Hollywood. Nobody gave us ship,
we were blocking traffic, people were angry, they were honking.
Nobody cared even.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
At Pinks, Like we were in the line at Pinks
and like nobody can.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
They set up this full thing at.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Peaks for us. Yes, they had like a hot dog
like with written on it like yes and like it's
and then but I remember being like we have to
eat these things.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Oh, I was very excited. I tried the tricky dogs
really good, incredible.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
I like a hot dog.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I like a hot dog. But I think being on
that moving bus host day and then having like a
chili dog was like not my vibe.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
I don't know, Oh God, did you have a chili dog?
Speaker 3 (23:36):
That's what is famous work. Yes, chili dog, Yeah, chili
other dogs.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
You know. I don't like a messy food.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Yeah, Jammy, Yeah, I didn't know.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
I don't. He's like getting Jammy and then having to
do like makeup touch ups. Yeah, and then I eat
it on camera and then you're like through the wind
in the hot suns. That's that's not what.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
I was happy to get off that bus though for
a little bit, and that pinks for a second. But
that was a weird day.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
It was so weird. It was really it should have
been fun. I don't know why. I remember getting on
the bus on the backlock.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yeah, and then just like leaving, yeah, and we had
to stop and we stopped in front of the Capitol
Capital Records Building. I remember that, yeah, And I remember
having to get off for some reason, and I can't
remember why Maybe they had us like shooting getting on
and off the bus or something, but I was so annoyed.
I was so annoyed at.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
That point, Becka and I did sneak beers on. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Well, and then Broken had to come on and like
yell at us from the back of the bus and
hide while we were shooting. You remember that.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Yes, I started hiding myself.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Right, You guys also had in the back, and I
was like, where is everybody?
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Yeah, I don't know why. Why would the vibe so
bad that day, even when.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
You're you're not in your home and like everything's a
little uncomfortable and you know, your people and then makeup
would have to stop and come on the bus and
we'd have to wait, and then they went to all
the back. They had to be on the bus too.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Yeah, but they'd have to like stop to get off
the comp out. Yeah, it was too much.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
So we go to La and Sam, which we talked
about who is you know, Will is looking to to
like kind of step up and be the leader. Sam
actually takes the fin black with us too, La. Yes,
and that's we get to the hotel and I'll never
forget shooting at this hotel where Will is having a
problem because to Sylvester called and said that he can't
(25:26):
have a bunch of children.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
And we shot it so funny, and the Paramount theater
lobby didn't.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yes, that was the lobby, and they dressed it as
a hotel lobby. And we had so many marks for
so many characters. I took a picture of it and
I have it. We'll post it. But you know, you
have your marks, and like usually there's like, you know,
two characters in the front of the choir room and
they have we each have our own designated color and
(25:53):
then like if you move, they do another one and
they put it down. But everybody moved, and everybody had lines.
So they were like one hundred different things, and I'm like,
how many different tape colors do you have? And our
wonderful grips and camera camera assistants had to like put
down these marks for us, and they used to have
to have some characters had two colors to distinguish because
(26:15):
there were not enough colors on the wheel.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Once Throat Explosion showed up, it was getting oh.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
My god, well and then Skyler shows up, so the
head of Throat Explosion shows up.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
How was it. Having Skyler is.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
So much fun by the way, he's so good at this.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
He's just Skyler reminds me of he's like Spring Awakening
Darren Chris.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Remind me of each other in a way, like they
both have so much energy. They're both like so positive. Yes,
and I mean like this is all yeah, good good,
Like Skyler can sing his face off.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
It's actually ridiculous. His voice is actually ridicuous.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Why is between like Bohemian Rhapsody and then this performance
like John and Scyler's voices are so high.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
And like butter Like what the hell? I know?
Speaker 2 (27:08):
But it was so nice to have Skyler there because obviously,
like all of your Spring Awakening folk had been friends
with them for years.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Come on in hang out with us. Yeah, Skyler was
so much fun to have, like Phoebe and like John
of course, and you know, he was there for a
national so we got like we got to work with
him a little bit, hanging out with him, and he
just fits right into the vibe and the tone of
the show as well, Like with this ridiculous vocal adrenaline
(27:38):
like character, who's going to be like so crazy.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
He's very much the brand, like he went on to
do another musical TV show like exact, so like it
very much.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
It's all fits. Yeah, he's so they steal the plaque.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
They do, they spot the plaque because the new directions
have this like really nice on the empty stage of Nationals.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
The night before, Sam wants to like get everybody together
to like gather.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Yeah, and they don't know we none of us know
why we're there. And Sam has this like really moving
tribute to finn and has the plaque there before it's
interrupted by Skyler's antics.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Who has a late rehearsal plan also right.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
It gives us three minutes and sees the plaque but
comes to the defense of you know, of us being there.
And I also thought it was interesting if like, look,
we all know you guys are that show choir m h.
And it's like the first time there's a reference to
us like as a show choir outside of ourselves and
(28:41):
especially in that context. Yeah yeah, yeah, And it was
nice to like sort of like paint that world a bit.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Of us having a reputation as well having.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
A reputation also, like when you do lose somebody and
you are that person in the friend group, right right,
people don't know how to deal with you or they
give you. So it also like yeah, this backhanded way
of saying like, okay, well we're reigning champs, right, so
we deserve to be here, right, But also like, well,
(29:10):
you're that show choir, so everyone's just like letting you
slide because technically you shouldn't even be.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Here, right, right, right, right, but we.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Feel everyone feels bad for you. It's weird to like
hear the new directions referenced in a way outside because
that never happens on the show.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
You're right, you're right. It's always us referencing others, schools
and reputations.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
I do also like like Darren and Skyler have that
moment earlier in the hotel lobby about the show Clair blogs.
I just it was I thought that was really sweet
because I, like I said before last episode, I like
when the blame character nerds us a bit.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Yes. Also, Skyler, he's not like like this in person.
He's actually quite calm and like, you know, even keeled
and funny though, but like he's like bye, yeah, it
is like in a heightened version of himself, which I loved.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
I remember rehearsing that scene. I don't know why, the
nighttime one in the hotel lobby one because Skyler came
in just like guns, I know who this guy is.
This is what we're doing.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Also that uh, that scene where Mercedes comes in with
the the fuaua. Oh, and she brought her mirror ball
that day. We were talking about this earlier because she did.
She did actually Amber Riley just one dancing with the stars,
which is like knowing her is no surprise to us,
(30:39):
but we're, you know, very happy for him. We're like,
you best bring that mirror ball when you come back.
And she walked in with that thing and to the
lobby of that fake hotel and carried that around and
people were like holding it and taking pictures with it.
I'll never forget it.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Well, bookmark that because there's a reference to it in
the next episode, right, And it's very very funny.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Man, She's won that, I'm asking right now.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Yeah. And an Olivier, yeah that too, just that one.
Whatever she deserves, seeing her as like a famous person
on the show in her wardroom with all these people.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Drinking, like, yeah, I'll find I'll write some songs for
some people I have.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
I want to bring up a note going forward. A
slight complaint I have with the show. The wardrobe for
Mercedes and Unique is very strong.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
If you ask Alex, it's like like Matron.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
They look like they're dressing them like they're in their fifties. Yeah,
it's it's it's distracting. It is distracting, that's the thing.
It's like, come on, you guys. It felt weird. It
was a newer wardrobe person. It was not our regular Yeah,
wardrobes a lot of people to dress. It's like, okay,
so like you you don't know how to dress, like yeah,
(31:59):
the black women, right, that's what it feels like.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah, come on.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Nobody else is like this, come on right? Because I
got it. I kept watching last night because I was
like so into it. I watched this, I watched a hundred.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
I watched one hundred. Is actually where it gets.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
It's really distracting.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
And I don't know if it was like the intention
was trying to make her look more business womanlike, and
that's why.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
But she's not a business woman.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Well you know what I mean, like more professional and
in suits and things. We could have done that way better.
We've obviously, like suits come into their.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Own because you have Rachel who's about to be like famous,
and then you have Mercedes is about to be famous. Right,
we can do both. We can do both, We can
do we should do both. And like one is getting
like the glamour treatment and one is looking like grandma.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Yeah yeah, yeah, let's just notate it because it's coming.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
It's gonna get look out for that.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
Yeah, no, I totally agree with you. So yeah, speaking
of Mercedes, Mercedes is now going to get a record
deal and she's going to start writing, be a songwriter,
and she's on the brink of fame. And Marley reveals
to Rider that she's she entered a contest for songwriting,
(33:13):
hasn't actually heard back, is feeling very discouraged, and that
she's going to leave the New Directions after this competition.
And then Rider is going to go to Jake shirtless.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Shirtless Jake importantly, I'm not sure why they had to
have that, but they did. I mean, Jacob looks great.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Do we have to do we have to do that?
Speaker 2 (33:37):
W can? Why can't we?
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Fine? Just like weird? And Writer's going to tell Jake
and he's going to They're going to try and help her,
and basically Mercedes is the one who comes to the
rescue and tells Marley like, you give yourself three minutes
to sulk and then you move on and you write
some more and you don't stuff. I don't know about
(34:03):
this storyline for me personally, Like I like the Mercedes
storyline of it all, Like we're seeing where she's going.
I like to see that, like we're seeing you know,
Santana and Rachel's kind of trajectory. Just because she's not
in New York doesn't mean that we can't see other
characters that we've learned, you know, come to deeply love.
But the whole Marley thing is like once again, like
(34:24):
poor Marlee. You have to feel bad for Marilee, Like
I love Melissa and I love Marley as a character.
But like the storyline itself is like why it's.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Also weird that it comes up only during these competitions
or right, It's like she abandons it the rest of
the year, right, Like isn't that important to her that
she's like, well, now this is the opportunity, right right?
It would make more sense also if that original song
that apparently was rumored to be see this.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
This would have made more sense than I think it
would have justified it all. And maybe it's like to give
Amber and Mercedes some more of like a mentorship, you know,
to the younger to the newer kids. I get it.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
I think it's finely much more about Mercedes. And then Mark.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Harley also like, why are the guys like coming to
her rescue? Like why do we always need like the
guys coming to her rescue? Like she can figure it out,
Like why is she the one always feeling like I
can't do it? And then a man is telling her
that she can, but a lady, Yes, a lady is
going to lift her up. At the end game Rider
(35:32):
and Jake from this whole like weird love triangle that
was going on, and I guess so it's like cut it.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
So it's Nationals And after that little run in with Tina,
Burt and Carroll decide to leave and Bert's like, let's
just go. We don't have to be here. It's fine,
he thought you Like She's like I thought I could
hand it, but I can't. And it makes it's very
level headed, makes a lot of sense. Yeah, and how
(36:07):
that perspective of like seeing them living their lives does
make it more real the fact that Finn is gone,
so they decide to dip. And then the new directions
are at the theater and we're about to perform and
they're not there. But before we do that, can we
talk about the other performances? Okay, so the Amazonians.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
I love this performance. I'm not how I I know
it's it's ridiculous and it's supposed to be outrageous.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
But I also they're from Oklahoma and they're also.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
So they were all so tall, so tall, and the
beach balls and the feather costumes, the whole thing was
just absolutely crazy.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
I don't know who that the dancer who was lip
sinking right the lead, but that was an excellent lip sync.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
It was very good.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I was very impressive.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
They don't get that in advance usually, like they're just tall,
like maybe in rehearsal, like you're going to be the
one doing it and they get close ups and you're like,
I hope they do it?
Speaker 2 (37:05):
No she no, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
I love that song. Love the go Gos. Loved the number.
I thought it was so.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Such a funny. But it's fun like why the feathers
and people? But also why not?
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Why not? Is the question?
Speaker 2 (37:19):
And then we get two throat explosion, which is wild.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Is absolutely insane. I think Scotty would also tell you, like,
he's not a dancer first, and he's like so worried
about getting it right. But I was like, you're the
lead singer. You can do whatever you want. Step out.
I don't want to dance, but he wanted to do so right.
I think he was. I think he's just he seems
like he's like very much like a perfectionist. Yes, I
(37:47):
think he would say.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Like, girl, nobody cares what you're moving. He's that voice.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Sounds so damn good. I really liked the smashup too.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
I did too, and I also like the arrangement of
mister Robado was phenomenal. Technical note I wish I had
for all the performances. Sometimes they do this on the
competition episodes, or they they turn up the lead vocals
and you don't hear the backgrounds as much we needed.
I think sort of defeats the purpose because it's a
(38:15):
show choir. Yes, it's not just the lead, and so
I wish you could hear the whole part of the
backgrounds because the arrangement of these were so good.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
But I guess it's Skylar's they're like just them. I mean,
I agree, I agree, but Scholars sounds so good.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
His voice is so high.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
You're obsessed with the high.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
One because I'm so jealous.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
His voice is very high. He has a very high,
very big range, and it's his tone is also so smooth,
so smooth, and it felt epic.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
It felt adrenaline and different and weird, like you haven't
done anything.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Yeah, exactly, kudos to them. Honestly, I still think, personally
spoiler alert than that New Direction should have won that competition.
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
I think this is the first time I actually like,
I think.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
That anyway this competition. When we were shooting it, I
don't remember feeling the way that I felt when I
watch it now. I don't remember feeling like so emotional
until we started shooting some fun what I'm looking for.
(39:24):
I also don't remember feeling like and obviously I think
it's the editing too, with like all the core stuff,
but like, the final product is so powerful to me
that if you had to ask me, like what song
always gets you or like which songs this competition? Yeah,
(39:44):
And I didn't feel that way while we were shooting it.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
No, because I think when you watch the episode and
it's you have like the Caroline Burton, the thin storyline
going throughout it, and then you tet choose those damn
flashback and it is.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
It will surprise you. They don't tell us they're doing
that either. We had spooked and it's like not a
good spook. Sometimes, No, it's not prepared for it.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
And I think to us, like getting through the days,
because we shot it over a couple of days. It
wasn't just one day. It's like you're just trying to
like no drama. No, you're just trying to get through
the day, do your job. And I don't think there's
a lot of emotion. But those songs are so good.
I remember America not feeling as good. Agreed, and they
(40:32):
still haven't found felt great. That was the one, like
you said, But watching it back, all of that so fun. Fact.
I know I've said this, stop me if if I
told this whole story already. So I was dating someone
at the time, Marco, and he was stuck in Brazil
(40:53):
late that night, our first night filming. We're just like
sitting on stage waiting for another setup, waiting to go again. Yes,
so he had been gone at this point two and
a half years, his mom, his brother Stop lived in
the US. He got it was the government actually like
messed up. And I get an email from his mom
(41:18):
being like, am I reading this correctly? Did he just
get really approved to come back into the US? And goosebumps? Now, yes,
and everybody knew, Like that's when I told the story,
how like Brad really the day he got stuck there,
Brad allowed me to like lead, I was bawling out yes,
and we thought it might be a couple months. Not
(41:39):
ended up three years. And I looked at the email.
I'm like walking in the wings, you know where like
Will is standing watching us. That's where I was, and
I like, go off. I talked her on the phone.
I'm like reading the email and like and it was
a sentence after all this time, like you don't know
the amount of things. I literally was out the White
(42:00):
House one time.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Yeah, we wondered. When we went to the consulate in Yes, France,
I chased he tried to get people, anybody, anybody.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
I talked to Obama's head of immigration policy about this
and she's like, legally I cannot help you. I was like, okay,
respect but like trying. He tried, Yeah, I tried everything,
and he was asleep in Brazil because it was really
late in my life, so he didn't even know. And
so I remember seeing you first and I was like,
(42:28):
Marc's coming home, and you're like what and you started
screaming and then everyone's like what's going on? And I'm like,
Marc's coming home. All the new kids. I'd never even
met him, and so everyone was happy. I remember yelling
to the audience because Amber was sitting in the audience.
She's like yes. Everyone was so excited. And then the
number we were performing was America, and it was very,
(42:49):
very I went so hard. There's some shots where I'm
like going really hard, and I'm like, that's when you
found out, yeah, because it was so odd of all
these things lined up that like song we're singing is
the song that I did not really know, or like
none of us really like, and all of a sudden,
I'm like.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Oh my god, wow, that's crazy. I don't think I
remember that. I mean I obviously knew during that time,
but I don't think I remember.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
And it was so you know how we are in
those days anyway, We're like so tired and delirious. But yeah,
it was really late at night and I wasn't eating
because I was trying to get skinny to Brazil, and
so I just like was fully out of my mind.
And I remember like getting in the car after because
we filmed downtown and like calling my sister. My sister
is balling, and Marco had no idea, like.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
We were crazy. Everybody knew before, so.
Speaker 2 (43:41):
Like I woke up to I talked to him about it,
but I just will never ever forget it. Every time
I see that performance, it's like layer upon layer of yes.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
And also the whole journey on Glee too, it's like
three years of that being stuck in every time thinking
he's coming back, You're not coming.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Back, and everybody knew, Like Brad even released me to
go to Brazil. I had four free days months and
you told me go go see him.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
So it was like a very much yes. And also
like when Corey passed away, I was with Marco in London.
They knew each other well, and so it was also
just like this is really weird.
Speaker 3 (44:20):
Oh my gosh. Now he's an American citizen.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
Yeah, yeah, he still didn't come home for six another
like another six months there's still another error. But yeah,
so like this performance just has like a lot of meaning,
a lot of personal meaning and also technically speaking, Jenna,
(44:42):
more than a feeling. Is so unbelievably good you sound.
There's one note you hold for about eight hours and
at the end of a little help on it, help
in all of it. Yeah, but and you like at
the end of it, you go up even higher and
you and I don't think Darren has I did better.
You also sound very good together. Your voices are very different, Yeah,
(45:06):
very different, very very good together.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
So interesting. I don't remember that feeling that when I
recorded that either.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Oh I remember, like guys, when we're performing these things
and it's like blasting to the speakers, it feels like
you're doing a concert. And I remember the first time
hearing that, and I was like, yes, like this is
so good and it's so fun to also like lip
sync really good backgrounds like that.
Speaker 3 (45:27):
Totally it's a great song and a great cover in general,
Like the version they did was really good. So you're like, oh, great.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
This is awesome.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
That is such a very very songs like that that.
I'm like, oh, yeah, I will bop to this.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
I also you don't get to sing a lot of
songs like that like that, Yes, And it was like, yes,
you give her the opportunity and look what she does
with it and it was so good. And also I
don't think Darren, you guys weren't doing a lot of
classic rock like this.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
No, no way, I mean we didn't do that a
lot in general. Like that was given to Corey was.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
It was Corey and Leah like they would do.
Speaker 3 (45:59):
This journey faithfully all those.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
And I feel like and like they obviously said a
very high standard and bar yes, but you guys met
it and it's very very good.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
This was a fun one. That was a fun one
to record. America. There's some crazy riffs on that that
you do that. I was like, what is he actually doing?
And like how did he do that? How did you?
Speaker 2 (46:22):
Luke was fully on one like if you listen.
Speaker 3 (46:24):
To America, like like where is he going?
Speaker 2 (46:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
The scale was crazy.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
At some point, Alex and I are just like going
back and forth and I was like, I, Okay, what
is happening.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
You did it? You sounded great. Everybody sounded really good
on that number. I actually think like if you listen
that number as a track like a single, and then
you watch it you're like, oh wow, like you appreciate
both the vocals and the performance of it. America is like, again,
I clearly don't know America all that well, even though
I thought I did, Like you know, I remember that,
(46:59):
I thought like would be sandwiching, you know, sandwiched by
the ones we did. But it does work because.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
The arrangement, the arrangements are so uniform. Yeah, there's like
cohesion between all three of them, and they sound like
they go together.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
And then still haven't found Okay, First of all, love this.
This is one of the best albums I think.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Ever, one of the best songs ever.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
Yes, song ever. I was so excited and so thrilled
that I got to stand on this song and it
was like all of us graduates.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
Yes, which also was really that was really special. It's
something we never got to do.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
Yes. The version that they produced is excellent, and like
that's hard to beat because this song is so good,
it's so iconic that I was like scared.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
I think, what's nice about it? Like the one version
by Mary J. Blige. When you do things quite different focally,
but you keep the integrity of like.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
The the number itself.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Yeah, the song, it seems to work really well with
U two songs.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
Yeah, you're right. I also didn't know maybe I didn't
read it or it wasn't written. The drumsticks.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
I don't have any memory of that either.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
Thanks, because I don't think we knew that what's happening.
And I think for some reason, Brad Beeker was there
for this, and I don't know why I have the
memory of that. Maybe I'm completely conflating. I think Elitie
had to leave for the day or something and Brad
Beeker stepped in and helped with one of the days
(48:35):
of nationals.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
Or he might have also been.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Been there to help Alody with national I mean this episode,
Brad Baker usually does the competition and the song itself
is like great to sing and I and is emotional
because we were you know, Corey and then you didn't
know they were doing the flashbacks in addition to that,
But like when he pulls out the drumsticks at the end,
(48:58):
I was not prepared for that at all when we
were shooting it, and I remember him playing about the
first time we saw them, and I was like, what
what are those?
Speaker 4 (49:09):
What are those and Core got really emotional, and then
we all got really emotional, and then we did the
number a thousand times again and that's when I remember,
I think that's why I want that one hit so hard,
and I'm like, oh.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
I can never watch this the same ember again now.
And then they added all the flashbucks in the edit.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
Oh, Core, one was excellent.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
And then him waiting in the wings app say he
did his best. I sent Kevin a photo. You can
post it if you want, Kevin, I was crying yesterday.
I didn't have time to watch this. There's no other
time for me to watch this episode except for nine
point thirty in the morning. So texting Kevin like, I'm
watching sitny of Angels right now. I don't think I'm
emotionally prepared for this at this hour of the day,
(49:57):
and I'm just weeping, Like from the beginning the medley,
all the way till the end, all the way through Chord,
I just wasn't equipped.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
That cut in with Burton Carroll. They gave us this
like really beautiful like pep talk. Oh yeah, and then
they're watching the audience and feelings out like they're doing
all his favorite songs. I was like, I can't. I
can't handle this. And then when Cord lifts up the
(50:28):
sticks and they cut to them again, and it's like
looking at Mercedes, like, oh my god, it's.
Speaker 3 (50:34):
Just it's too much. It's too much.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
Also side note, we've never looked better as it.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
I was gonna say the rehearsals for this were very
must have been long and expensive.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
Because we've never looked better.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
I finally know how to hit a line.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
I have I'll see if you can post them. I
have full takes of how we filmed them, because we
could have performed this, right, Yes, I have those two
have two of the songs, right, I think I have
America I have still haven't found And you see it
all and you see Brooke like over the god Mike
telling Cord where to go. But we've yeah, proud of us. No, no,
(51:16):
we looked great, really did it?
Speaker 3 (51:17):
What a way to go out and we still lost.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Some bitter about I.
Speaker 3 (51:22):
Do like the whole trajectory where the storyline is going though,
we're going to save the Glee Club. The Glee Club
has been disbanded. It feels very old Glee. It feels
like Sue is actually gonna finally it's like the question
of like this is the end of we're getting to
the end of the series. Is is Sue gonna do it?
Speaker 2 (51:37):
It very much feels like a series finale because there
will goes in there.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
She's like, you haven't so funny and the Sancho Pez
and the trophy. Gosh, she's so good. I'm grateful that
we've gotten so much. I was like, I actually forgot
that we have so much.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
I am Jane slush to having this conversation is like
so sobering because it's like the bright bubble that the
delusion that the glee club has lived in this the
whole time. It feels like it's like the clocks run out,
(52:18):
the game is just over.
Speaker 3 (52:20):
Such a good line, Oh this is good. This whole
scene was really good.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
It was very good.
Speaker 3 (52:27):
And Becky just being sitting there talking to him table
it was very good too. We lose and we are disbanded,
like it's really over. It's really over.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
It feels like it's like, how do you come back
from this?
Speaker 3 (52:40):
I know, but don't worry. It does with a whole
new cast.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
What were the other things that got eliminated? It was
like it was academic decathlon and actual decathlon like US
and US. Do you remember finding out that we weren't
going to win?
Speaker 3 (53:02):
I remember reading it and thinking like, no, like this
is the last time our competition and we don't win,
Like this is our last Nationals and we don't win.
Speaker 2 (53:13):
It's wrong. It does like I'm okay with a little
happy ending.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
But I guess they mean I know I'll never forget
always being like you guys can't always win. There's nowhere
to go from there. So I get it. It's a
TV show, but we should have won.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
It don't make us right.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
Well, seeing those performances, I was like, wow, generally, you know.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
We can be self deprecating all the other time.
Speaker 3 (53:34):
The crowd was good, they loved us.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
Yeah, that crowd was up on the feet. There were
a lot of background actors, a lot that.
Speaker 3 (53:42):
Theater was Yeah, that was a big one. I remember
that one being big. Okay, let's create the performances.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
I want to apologize. If you listen to the full version,
I'm doing insane things.
Speaker 3 (53:59):
Are you to listen now?
Speaker 2 (54:01):
Insane things? It's Luke's fault.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
I love it, but I had no idea and crazier
in America because America is crazy.
Speaker 2 (54:10):
I just don't stop. I just keep going. And I
think Luke was fully unleashed at this point because we
end up doing I won't tell you, but there's a
song we revisit in the future I had You're a
recollection of and again.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
You're just running like what interesting? Yeah, Luke must have
had free ran on. I love La and A Yeah,
same vacation plus plus yeah, mister Roberto hunting Stars. Yeah,
more than a feeling a.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
Plus plus plus Jenna, Like, honestly, I can't talk like
I love this number.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
Is this your favorite Teina number?
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (54:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (54:52):
Probably, I feel like you about that. Maybe my favorite
Blaine number as well? Really, I think you guys, both
of you sound so good.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
I have to go back and listen to this.
Speaker 2 (55:03):
It's dumb, okay, like it's.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
Okay, Yeah, America honestly didn't think that this was going
to happen A plot, yeah, I think, And so I'm
found out looking for a Okay, that's a really good average.
Let's do some tarty takes, you know. I have to say,
there weren't any real Auchi's that stood out in my mind.
(55:27):
I'm sure there was one that I missed.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
There was a line that Becky said, sure if there
was an Olympic event, and being totally gay as a gay,
I stand by that. I think she's allowed, she gets
a pass. That shit was so funny.
Speaker 3 (55:43):
Was so close up to to him. I was like,
very jarring, best dance move. Okay, well, first of all,
we had pransercise herself.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
That's true, shout out to fansercise.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
But I think throat explosion like we have to get
think we looked good, but throwing explosion has like choreography.
Best song still haven't found wow? Right, Yeah, yeah, definitely.
(56:15):
I was gonna say, I love a lie.
Speaker 2 (56:16):
But what I'm just kidding murder.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
It's by your prop the jumpsticks.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
The jumpsticks obviously in second place for the hot.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
This line.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
Oh man. I mean, I feel like there were a
lot of good emotional.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
Like Sam's speech and Carol's speech, and I will say
I do think Sue's speech just to Will also about
like the game being over was like really it really
got me.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
It got me too, and really felt so fine. Sums up.
Speaker 3 (57:02):
Yes, it's like her trying to take down a glee
club who loves the arts.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
And she's like, look, you did it against the best rival, right,
and you still won a Nationals?
Speaker 3 (57:12):
Right? You didn't lose the games just over Really.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
Maybe that's that is the best line. He didn't lose
the games just.
Speaker 3 (57:18):
Over performance, MVP.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
I think Chord absolutely Chord. Seeing Chord cry breaks me.
I can't thinking about it right now. I'm like, I
can't do it.
Speaker 3 (57:32):
Just like Cord is such a puppy dog, and I
know we talked about this before and he just like
wants to make people laugh and he's so sweet. But
like to see him step into a leadership role in
this way as a character is also like ugh, like
I love it. I'm so proud of him and I
love this so it makes me very happy. Yeah, he's
(57:54):
very good.
Speaker 2 (57:54):
At and he met the moment he did it. He
did so for sure. We found on TikTok, But did
timber fake set to the tune of Chris's very viral
all that working? What did it get me? Yes, it's
a pink purse and it says, guys, this just fell
out of my mouth. What does this mean? I'm scared
(58:17):
playing with a little pink plastic purse, which is a
reference from season two, episode seven, or Mercedes is at
breadsticks with blading kurts, and she starts to just hear
gay gay gay gay gay, Oh my god, oh my mouth,
and a little pink purse fell out.
Speaker 3 (58:33):
I love that line.
Speaker 2 (58:35):
Sound so good, one of my favorites.
Speaker 3 (58:40):
Well, I hope you enjoyed this episode for nationals. Come
