Speaker 1 (00:01):
And that's what you Really missed with Jenna.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
And Kevin an iHeartRadio podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome to You and That's why You're Really miss podcast.
This is season four recap with Mike's Mike. He joins
us every season when we complete watching the season. We
are done with season four. He gives us things to
look forward to. We then check in with him, we
(00:30):
recap and he's never wrong. He's he's never wrong, so brilliant.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Also, he's on the other side of the world and
wakes up at the crackad on to be with us,
So we really appreciate his time and we really look
forward to like talking to him at the end of
It's sort of a goalpost at the end of each
season is to see what he thinks and tell him
what we've discovered. So, without further ado, here is Mike's Mike.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Welcome, Welcome, good to see you.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Good to see both as always. Did you enjoy season four?
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yes, and way more than I thought.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
I think maybe because our expectations were set pretty low,
right that anything that was remotely good was a pleasant surprise.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And isn't that the way to live? It is? That's
it is?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, set the bar right, Yes, yeah, and then everything
is impressive.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yes, exactly exquisite. Yeah, well it was a surprise, but
we did enjoy a majority of it.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, it's not perfect, but we need that going into it. Yeah,
but it was more perfect than I thought it would be. Yeah,
and I use the term perfect obviously very loosely.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Do you agree, because I think one of the things
that I said before you watch season four was that
I really enjoyed the New York stuff a lot more
than the stuff still at the school.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Do you agree. It's like fifty to fifty, but yeah,
I I I enjoyed the New York stuff more than
I thought I would. Yeah, definitely. I think I enjoyed
the McKinley stuff probably starting halfway through the season.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I think in the beginning getting to know new people,
and I think also the show trying to figure out
how much time to spend in each place was difficult.
The New York stuff immediately was like banger after banger.
I just want to watch these scenes. We know these characters,
and they're also so good together, especially like when Santana
(02:33):
joins all of them. Like I it was very very good. Yes,
And I feel like they found their stride with McKinley
later on.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah, the first half of McKinley, all the new characters
suddenly and trying to make the audience care about them
for we just don't care.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, and as much as like we love them as
humans and how much fun we had I could see, yes, yes,
And I think it also felt like at some point
the writers learned the real actors and then adjusted like
they were trying to fit them in like what you
warned us about, sort of like the archetypes of the
Quinn and the Finn and all those things, and then
(03:10):
they sort of abandoned that at some point, which then
it felt good like, oh, now they're their own people.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah, and they stopped trying to make Molly like the thing,
like as like the big new character, like everything's hemed
you on Molly. And then when they sort of pivoted
away from that, then I got better.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yes, yeah, agreed, Yeah, agreed.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Instead of trying to make Co the new Rachel, right,
because then you're instantly it's like any new artists coming up,
like this is the new Britney Spears or this, and
they're automatically then comparing to someone that you don't necessarily
ever need to be compared to analogy.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
And so it just once they were their own, fully
formed things.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
It was let Molly be her own pop star.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yeah. Yes, she really carries a lot of the McKinley
stuff in season four. It's quite impressive for coming in
as the new guy.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Whenever I think of Marley, I think of two things.
First thing is the quote of Sue and the Mom
where the mom comes into the office and she's like,
thanks for what you did for Marley and me, and
Sue's like, I've never seen that movie.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
I don't wan're talking about.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
The thing is in season five a Katie versa Gaga
mm hmm, that whole episode. It's and that plant line
where she gets in trouble because she doesn't want to
wear the aphrodite Lady Cecille bikini.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
It's out of all the things I don't remember from
the show, I that is ingrained. This carved like Michelangelo
into my brain of her, like she gets suspended or
like something dramatic happens because she.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Doesn't want to participate in this one random.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
She doesn't want to wear the bikini. And then we
was like, you're putting your interests above the schools interests.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Oh my god, once again Will Schuster doing the wrong thing?
Very strange?
Speaker 3 (05:01):
What was still because I was trying to think what
my favorite song from season four was, and I brought
some down, but really interested in what yours were?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, okay, So I was pleasantly surprised by a Warbler's
number dark Side one of my top top numbers. Some
other numbers obviously, the breakup is a huge episode in
season four that is widely talked about. Some of those
I didn't love as much as I thought I would
(05:31):
or were like built up again expectations. But the scientists,
what are the songs? Kevin, there's a lot, Jennifer, you
hung up was brilliant. Oh yeah yeah, let me love
you for Jacob, and that one we knew, like when
that was happening, we knew that was special.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
And also really hello Jacob, this is great Nutbush City
limits I forgot. And I also love how random she
just shows up and does this like superstar number and
it's like all right here, like and that was unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I think that Bush was like what is crazy? Top?
Also what a song? Obviously, Kiki turcular Key.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
That's on my list I have. This is just like chyotic,
but I've got let's have a Kiki of course, then
I've got the Diamonds are Girls best Friend slash material.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Go mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Really actually, like in hindsight, I enjoyed that and I
went back and watched it and I was like, yeah,
there's eights like it's fine. Yeah, and like and the
performance total. Then I'm a big Spice Kills fan. Okay,
So like when the Glee ghos did want to be
I really enjoyed that. Yeah, I wanted more. I sort
(06:55):
of like mouth open, like this is incredible. Everyone like
really showed up that day.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, it's like loved it.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
I think even the there's like one specific frame that
I can remember where everyone's like sitting in front of
the piano and they're all like doing like the poses
of the Spice Skills, Like someone's got like the lollipop,
Someone's got the sporty spice outfit. I'm like, yeah, that
was fun.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
It was fun. That was a fun one to do too.
It looked like you were all having fun. Yeah we were. Yeah,
like the director was having fun.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Like it was shot differently than other numbers in the
choir room, like everyone really just pulled up for the
Spice Girls, which you know you.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Should absolutely yeah, And then my last one was this
is like a bit of a random one, but I
loved the song wings by Little Mix.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Yeah, but then what the.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Opponent's name is? At regionals they sing wings by Little
Mis And I wrote in my notes that they should
have won, you know, just for that, just because they
sung wings.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I I think they also should have won, but not
just because they sang wings like they had it together.
Our performance also is like patricious, It's very We're just
doing a lot of well not me, but everyone else
is doing.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
A lot of walking. And it wasn't great.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Get you FA walking with intention, gets you FA.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
In season four, this Regionals was not my favorite choices
though songs sound choices, they were.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I mean, an exceptional song. It's also the first number
that Amber danced to when she was on Dancing with
the Stars.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Right the time, and Clarity is also great. They did
so okay, that's fair, that's fair.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
There was a lot of music in season four, like
a lot of really good.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Music, munch music. Like when I was going through the Spotify,
someone's on my playlist of old songs.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yes, I was just it just kept going shout out
to whoever makes those because those are so helpful. I
look at those like they've also they have once for
each character. It's great, Like I don't know who's doing that,
but they're doing a worldwide service. They really are, No,
they truly are.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
I do you agree that season four a lot of
it was just like the Trauma Olympics, which is like
something bad would happen, you'd be like, oh, okay, and
then something worse happened to oh okay, especially like.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
In McKinley, like the new characters, it was like, let's
just load it on, like Rider. Rider was sexually assaulted,
he had dyslexia, he was catfished, like it was one
thing after the other, and the school shooting exactly. So
it was very intense, and that episode alone was very
(09:40):
intense and controversial, and you know we've talked about should
we have done it at all? But and then the
next one's just ridiculous. That's right, It's just like that's
exactly right, yes, chaotic, right.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
It was sort of the like his the things that
happened to his character, what made me think, what the
hell is happened? Like, yeah, the whole dyslexia build up.
It's like this massive reveal and then we just instantly
forget about it because something worse happened immediately, So it's
like the dyslex it just takes a back seat, and.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Then the Catfish gets like three episodes.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I did feel like this is one of those. I
think it was the first time. Like I think in
every season there's one or two what feel like filler episodes.
And there was that stretch starting around the school shooter
episode where back to back to back, okay, but nothing
is really happening here.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, get me to New York.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yes, Like it all is like very strange and like
we're clearly like none of these things have ramifications beyond
this episode, which is like, especially when you have something
like the Catfish that plays out for what feels like
an eternity, like, well, okay, notice lexia, no whatever. So
it was there was I think it was in the
(11:05):
back quarter of that season that felt a little strenuous.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I would agree. There was one quote
that you had told us to look out for before
we when we saw you for season three. That is
by far my favorite quote of season four as well,
and it's Becky saying mind your own gay business, gabling.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Brilliant, so good, so so good. What was that in
reference to?
Speaker 1 (11:33):
It was about the school shooting and Sue covers up
for Becky, and then Blaine starts to unravel the secret
that there's something going on with Becky and she's acting
out of character, and she's like, my.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Yeah, you had some really like everything you told us
to look out for. I don't want to like blow
your head up, but you were correct.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
You're on point about Yi. I mean, Kate Hudson s
JP perfect like they were.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Brillian couldn't get enough of them, needed one hundred percent
more of them.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Sandra July singing Americana and my favorite most the other songs.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
I read it down dance again, m it is so
good A plus plus plus plus excellent.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
That I really liked that character died. I was gonna
say I wish that she had more of a role,
but I feel like she had a pretty big role
totally story.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
She really did, and I felt like she took up like, yeah,
she wasn't in most of the episodes, yeah, but she
felt present throughout the entire That's right season. And I
liked how awful she was.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
I loved it.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Yeah, because you have Sue who's awful, but she's funny.
You have Liter's like some redeeming quality. Cassandra was just
awful for that.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
And then she turns the corner and we were like,
oh great, she's even better now.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, and her backstory about like yelling at someone to
put their phone away and it going viral.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
It's like Patty Lapone. It's very funny.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Very I did think some of the carryover of like
they were just trying things out McKinley, of like how
can we make this bad, like these people experienced bad things.
Or Cassandra there's one really weird shot in the earth.
It might be in her first episode. It's one of
her first where she just is like the bottle of
rum or whatever and she's just pouring it into it,
(13:26):
like are we doing this? Are we going to do
this storyline?
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Well? And then she slept with Brody and she's like Brody,
but she slept with Brody.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
He came third in Australian Idol season three.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, that's right. He came and left too very quickly.
Brody was like, yeah, it was crazy. He slept with Cassandra.
He did, and then they moved in together, Rachel and
Rachel and Brody Brody, and then we found out Brody
was an escort and yes.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
No, and Santana found that out somehow, right, Yes.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
And she's the one.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's that's what we need to see.
That's also I think some of Santana's best material was
in this season. She'd pop in, they'd give her, especially
in that like two story two episode story arc of
figuring out what was going on with him. She showed
(14:26):
up and like blew up the spot of like, you
guys aren't sane. This guy sucks? How are you not
seeing this? And she was She's never been funnier. Yeah,
like a bit of like voice of reason. Yes, And
she's saying insane things and sort of being awful, but
at the same time she's right and like to wake up.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
I just remember something else that I told you to watch.
You have for the decorations in the apartment, did you
see that?
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Yes? It was wild.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Also the fact that they were coructing. They had, like
you said, they had this gigantic space that was empty
and then they just started constructing walls and their crafts
people building what are you when I still cannot get
over the random like towns around Yorkshire like decorations. It's crazy.
(15:20):
But then I was thinking, like that was twenty twenty thirteen,
that makes even more sense. Do you remember like being
obsessed with the UK was like a thing, totally totally.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Especially like yeah, yes, like everyone would have like a
UK pillow, like a big bend pillow.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Oh that's right, I did.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
I had like a I had kend that I had
like this like box like storage thing that had like
the Union jack printed on it.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, yeah, it was awful. So it makes sense that
they would have that.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
You're right, Wow, good recall Now I I have a
question for you. So you I remember you were saying
like you just really you just wanted to go back
to New York and see what people were doing there, obviously,
and it took some time to warm up, and you
had just said that, you know, Marlee, once we start
started getting over the like let's make Marley the new
(16:18):
Rachel kind of thing, it got better. Did you ever
feel connected to the new cast or did this kind
of was the demise of your experience with McKinley high.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I actually ended up liking Mally, so I was interested
in her story, and I feel like she had a
good dynamic with a lot of the characters that we
associate with McKinley, like with Sue. How Sue can't insult her,
Like that's funny and that's like a recurring thing. It's like, oh,
that's a connecting point between Molly and Sue's one of
(16:54):
my things. But then the rest, Like I didn't like
Kitty that much because of like we sort of introduced
her as this horrible person and then suddenly it's like
a redemption arc and I'm like really, and then in
season five we get an even worse version of Kitty
to make Kitty look better, and I'm like, how many
(17:15):
times are we going to keep doing this?
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Right?
Speaker 3 (17:16):
But the guys could not care less. So it's like
I was invested in Marley, but that was pretty much it.
So there's any time that they found a reason to
bring like Sue or Will to New York, especially in
season five, I'm like, yeah, there, let's do it.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
We're just doing a spin off of New York. That's
where we're at now, got it, got it?
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Got Iteah, we could have just done Fondue for two
in New York and that could have been the show.
Fond for two was so good and there was a
lot of it. I think you're in season five, there's
like a I think I call it the best one
hundred seconds of the show.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Maybe.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
And it's at the end of season five when Brittany
has Will and Sue on Fondu for two. Oh, it
might be in the season finale, just came dream. She
did that in season four as well, she had Will
and Sue did you Maybe that's what I'm thinking of.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Yeah, And actually in the finale, is that what you're
thinking of? Okay, maybe it is because I think I've
written it down. At the same time that Sue says,
ninety five years I gave those girls and wanted to
get me and that.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Was season four.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, and Sue's like she's looking at the cheerios practicing.
She's like talking to back that ninety five years I
gave this.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
And what did it? Gets? Yes? Yep, absolutely, okay, yes,
like ninety five years what yes?
Speaker 2 (18:37):
So in the finale season four, uh, Fondue for two
happens and Sue and Will because they're worried about Brittany
and so Brittany's like, there's only one space that I
will talk to you in and then it cuts to
fondu for two and the camera angles are wild crazy, and.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
This is where she says she knows who Robert Sylvester's father.
It's yes, yes, yes, that's that's that's one hundred second yes.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
So unbelievable, And I think it's some of Matt's best
work and his reactions to what he's witnessing.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah again, because it's just like so peak that I
felt the second half of season four, or most of
the last few episodes were pretty solid, like.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Yeah, it locks up, it does, it picks up interesting.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
And fun, and it keeps you like interested in what's
happening in the characters.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Well. And also that Heather Marrish was pregnant at the time,
and we've talked to her about this because she was
pregnant at the time, and they didn't really right, they
didn't write it into the show, and so she was
leaving the show. And this is when Brittany the Brittany Coat,
when she goes to MI, I t yeah, why, yes,
exactly wow.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Because it did feel random, but then I just assumed
that was what they was going for.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Yeah, and that's why she's leaping because they gave her
time off.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
But it's that's also the perk of being on a
show that like anything can go on the show.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
So yeah's sleeping of course, sure, yeah, question.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
That's so silly. I love how silly that is.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
You warned us about let's have a kiky turkey lurkey time,
and I think Jenna and I were cool on that,
and watching it, I was shocked by how much.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
I really really enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Yeah, all if it worked like s Jap coming out
of the subway on the phone, like it was just
like there's no reason why it should have worked.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
But just the dedication to put that talking bit at
the start, yes, because like I guess, that is a
really integral part of the song. But if they didn't
put that in, then I would be like, oh, this
is still excellent.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Oh right, And you could see a world in which
they would cut that out. But it makes it so
much better.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
And her delivery is perfect. I don't know how she
made that work, but she did. And she also just
feels like Carrie. It just feels like a Sex and
the City totally, because it feels like when you say, like,
who is more New York? When you see s JP,
I can't place her out of New York City of
(21:31):
New York. That's right. There's Robert de Niro and there's
sjpa New York exactly representing the image.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
And so it feels like her presence is even much
bigger than just her, like her character being there, it's
like she represents the city therein now like this is
the show.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
And also her job. Wasn't her job something like the
head of Vogue dot com? Yes, yes, exactly, and then
the assistant. Yeah, yeah, it's all it's very sex and
the city.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
It was devil War's product exactly like Stanley Chucci's gonna
pop out somewhere, you know.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Yes, yeah, that's what we missed. That's what we needed
to stance.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
That's Tchi. Oh my gosh. That would have been a
dream guest for me. I love him.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
I just can't caver that. Let's have a Kiki like
that is peak TV.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
I was so confused when it was happening, and it
was because it was so viral and you're like, oh,
we're doing that too, And I think that's partially why
Kevin and I have that in our minds. It's like
we had to do all the pop culture references, of course,
but when you're in it, you're like, oh, I don't
want to watch this again. But watching it now, having
time away from it, you're like, Wow, that's pretty genius.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
I also think, just like a lot of things on
the show, some of these things, you know, like fifteen
years later.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Just make more sense.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Well, like if I heard that, like hearing that song
at the time, the mashup, I'm like, this is bad.
These are two songs that do not go together. And
I was being too serious about it mm hmm. And
watching it now where.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
I think like Camp is much more mainstream than it
was back then. Like Camp then was like exclusively for
like the gays and the girls, you know what I mean,
Like it wasn't. Now it's celebrated by all and now
when you watch it, you're like, oh, this is brilliant,
Like this is absolutely And that's why you know Ryan
(23:31):
was you needed someone like Ryan to.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Have the vision. Yeah, exactly as Holy actors did not
have the vision. There's a there's something that you also
reminded us about and says here, if I'm reading it, correctly.
Hopefully I'm not twisting your words. Sousing Superbase and the
Blaine contract. It felt like randomly generated things for you.
(23:54):
I have to agree. I do too, Like what are
we doing? What are we doing? That whole story? And
then I was like, must we? Must we?
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Yeah, And wasn't he undercover or something?
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Yeah? He was trying to bring her down and it
was just it was a little forced for me.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
What's weird about it is it never turned into anything. Yeah,
because she ended up ousting herself from the school covering
for Becky.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Right, So it never came to anything. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
No, like I guess it was Phila.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Unless it was to somewhere else and then they changed it.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Yes, that happened sometimes sometimes, like we knew there were
storylines that they were going to start introducing, and then
it could something in pop culture could happen, and then
all of a sudden, they want to write about that,
and so it sort of ruins the initial plan. So
I think it did feel like one of those things
that introduced this is what we're planning on doing then,
like let's do a school shooting episode, and because you
(24:53):
know that's something top of mind of what we should
absolutely do.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, what it feels like to me.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
I feel like the Sue super based thing. They could
get away with it just because it's Sue. Yes, totally
and like Sue can do anything, and I think the
audience will love it or at least like totally tune
in and be like, oh, this is funny, Like who
cares that this adds nothing to the plot, This is
just funny.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
I did like seeing her do it. I mean, she
was great, but yeah, yeah, the wig.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yeah on the little motorbike ridiculous, is amazing, so stupid.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
I love the budget they had, the budget.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
We don't have a budget.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
At that point, I had in my notes, like one
of the highlights of season four was Sue walking down
the aisle in Emma's dress while Lacromosa is playing in
the background.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Unbelievable, that whole the scene with her and that I
is just.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
It's a fan service sweating. Yeah, it was. I burst,
like sitting at home alone, burst out laughing. I was like,
this is crazy. So much of this season just like
a Turkey lurky, or her Sue walking down in the
same wedding dress, or the reveal that she's in the
wedding dress. Like I I wish I could have been
(26:16):
somebody at home watching it for the first time, because
I don't know. I mean, I guess you can tell
me what that feels like. I was in the this
is hilarious. Okay, great, But see if any other character
did that, I'd.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Be like, what's happening? Why?
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Why are we doing this? Actually, the one of the
character that would be able to get away with that,
I would say it's Santana because I feel like Santana's
sort of started taking on some of those suit things
where she would appear in the plot you'll lead just
to make jokes or to like make a mess. Yeah,
and like she can get away with that totally, which
is what she did in New York.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Yeah, exactly like the stuff she did in New York.
Sue could do those things.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Yes, pop in, do your peace and get out, and
you're like my head just then, and yet I'm laughing
and I enjoyed it. Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Now I'm curious about season five. Mm hmm, I'm I'm scared.
I'm a little worried. We should be right. It seems
controversial and it seems the most unhinged that we were
(27:30):
going to get so far. So tell me your thoughts
on five. How what are we to expect and how
should we feel?
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Okay, I think season four, I think is more just
like insane, like it's just what the hell is happening?
Season five I feel like it's better than season four.
But there's I call it the diabolical episode run from
(27:59):
episode four to episode eight, where it's just like, what,
like I have a summary? Yeah, yeah, So it starts
with a Katie Versa Gaga right then the end of Twerk,
then Tyra Banks saying the camera likes Starvation, then the
Blain Puppet episode with what does the Fox say?
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Kevin's Favorite? Those are all back to back to back.
When is the Christmas episode? This Christmas episode is the
one right after it, so it's puppet Master and then Christmas.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
That's why so in my head I had a mental breakdown. Yes,
from that one to that it was Puppets into Christmas.
I came unraveled at Puppets and then at Christmas I
fully just melt it.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
And then the one after that is where we are
we compete to speak at the closing ceremony, We're like
the up for Valedictorian is right after that. Okay, Okay,
so let me just say though, for four four to eight,
which is Katie Gaga through an unaired Christmas, are the
(29:14):
respective episodes after the quarterback? Okay, So it's the quarterback
and then everything becomes unhinged, but.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
It's literally immediate though, Like you have the quarterback and
then the next episode is a Katie Vesa.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Well. I think people were I think, did you know
we had a break, right, We took a little break
and then shift and then everything shifted, right, the whole thing.
Our entire show was turned upside down and went, well,
what do we do now? Like the star of the
show was supposed to lead us through the rest of
(29:54):
this series literally is gone, and they were like, where
do we go from here? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (30:01):
So did those episodes just appear?
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
I think they were probably searching for what to do,
where to go, and so then they did these big
event things puppets that are unrelated to anything.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
The billage Oel episode. Yeah, so all standalone. Yeah, that's right,
because I think they were trying to scramble to figure
out where we go.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
From They didn't know what story was going to be anymore,
and then.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
I feel like the what they ended up choosing with
the characters for the second half of season five was
good once it's settled, and like, I think more characters
go to New York. Hm, I just have this image
of Ardi in the STD costume.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
That's right, don't let that ever leave your brain. And
I think that's when I left the show, that particular
SAT scene.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
She's like, I'm out there enough, I'm done.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
I think it does. Season does? Does Tina have her
assistant in season four or five?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Five? Donnie Hastry comes in very early in season five
because it's Tina and the Sky and Diamonds. I think
is episode two she was No, she wasn't four. She
wasn't four. She was in the opening friend that we
dis she disappears.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
She was there a little bit. No, she was there
a couple episodes. Yeah, okay, you reference her a couple
like very little, very little.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
I would say, actually, season five we have some banger
new characters. We have Demie Levado's Danny no last name,
that's right, obsessed, obsessed, obsessed with noticing that she doesn't
have her last name, because when they're all in like
a band, I come with the band's called but on
(32:03):
the band poster it's got like star Child's real name,
and then like Kurt's name, and then and Danny.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
She doesn't have a last name. She's Beiyance exactly.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
She doesn't need a second name.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Is it Pamela Lansbury? Is that the cover band? Yes,
that's that's yeah, okay yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
And then star Child Love, star.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Child Love, star Child, star Child was a.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Song Marry the Night I think is his first song. Yes,
it's so good, so so good. I also said that
the Spotlight Diner. I like the Spotlight Diner. Yes, all
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Is really fun.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Also the fact that Demi Levado exists in the Glee universe.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yes, I love when those things happen. And it happened
every season there was some reference to somebody who's famous
and then they're on the show.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Yes, so good. I'll never get over her.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Like our friend Kelly who worked on the show, texting
me being like, your friend is in our office having
a secret meeting with Ryan, and I was like, who
it was Demi? And I texted her. I was like,
you can't show up to my place of work?
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Can I let me know? Like what the hell are
you doing here? Probably like oh my god, and then
I had like no scenes with her. Well we were
yeah we did. Oh.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
I was so upset she needed a reason to come
to McKinley.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
We should have had that.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
I think Demi Levado is such a good singer, so
when she appeared on Glee, I was like, m hmm, yeah, absolutely,
this makes sense. I love this like that. This was
after Glee. But it's like a twenty seventeen album by
Demi Levado. I think either the main song or the
album is called tell Me You Love Me yes on
(33:52):
the album, and I listened to that while I was
doing my master's degree, like my basis, So I was
at the UNI every single day over the break and
it was just me and the physics building walking around
blasting Demi Levado while doing like laser experiments.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
That song is so good. Yeah, what did you get
your degree in? I have a master's degree in mechanical engineering.
Oh my gosh, wow revealed. Wow, I'm actually a published
academic author. I have an article about free space laser links,
which is like sending information via lasers to satellites.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
I'm deceased. This is amazing. I think we need another
episode to I just want to know more about you
dissect that. Wow.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
But yeah, Demi Levado is a really like a huge
part of that. So when I rewatched Glee and she
appeared in season five, I was like, oh, excellent, she is, yes, yeah,
and then I've got Sue saying busted timber Flake describing Will.
That's excellent. I did not like the character of Bree
(35:04):
Breedy comes in at the start of season five, but
there's like a alot point that I do like with Bree.
It's where Sue gets Brie to terrorize the Glee club
because they perform better under pressure, which that is funny
and that's nice and that's true.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Yeah right, we do like the crazier things are the worst.
The state of our world is yeah, exactly exactly. Everything's
too happy.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
We do not function, and mistakes are high because I
think Sue is like acting principle as she sets that
thing where if the New Directions or the Cheerios don't
win Nationals, they're kicked out. That's right, and Ross is
coaching the Cheerios, thank god.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
So there's more ras five goodness.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
I think Ros calls Sue the phantom Menace in the
start of season five.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
That's excellent, that's great. Then the one.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
Hundredth episode, it's like a special episode enjoyed that. I
think it might be a two part I don't think so, No,
maybe not. I don't know, but it's like they have all.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
The oh like so Kristin and Gwyneth come back in
the following episode called New Direction. So I don't know
if it is a you might be right, you know
more than we do.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
It's a nostalgia field sort of two episode thing.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Yes, yeah, I think that's what it was. And there's
like a joke about how Kristin Chanawan comes back because
Hollie Holiday had written in the Facebook group that's people
who have like guested in that there's like this reunion's funny.
That's so funny and silly.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
We also get Cheese Crawford, one of our friends who
Quinn is dating Biff Macintosh, which is so random. His
name was Biff bi Macintosh.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
The name, but like that name sounds like if I'm
going off absolutely nothing. I haven't seen the show. Beff
Macintosh sounds like a rich asshole, like buff like trophy boyfriend,
which is exactly what the character was yeah, so, like
the name is correct, I guess you're right.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
When I watched it at the time, I didn't compute
the importance of Chase Crawford just randomly and Glee. But
then on Rewatch I'm like, yeah, that's Chase Crawford.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Yeah. How did he end up on the show? I
don't know, but it was so random and so fast,
and he sing, no, he doesn't sing. I don't know.
I wouldn't say that, he would say he can.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
You imagine if he just started you have so much Okay,
you can't be talented and beautiful and nice exactly.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
We love Chase, leave some for the rest of us.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
It's not fair.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
And then last three points were the random reveal that
Holly Holiday and Sue are going to go on amazing
race together.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Just makes so much sense. I love it.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
And then everyone somehow in.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
New York, right, people moving in together? That's right? Yeah,
Oh yeah, I'm moving voice that's right. Yeah, I get
my own.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Laughed, And then like Mercedes is there? Everybody's because I
think Mercedes is there because she's inspiration for her albums. Yeah,
and then she has that sort of an episode fling
with Sam who's also in New York.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
I'm going to be so excited he.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Has interviewed Tyra Banks. Tyra Banks absolutely bodies her cameo. Ye,
so just keep an eye out for that. Like she
I think Tyra Banks is an excellent actress.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
We love it.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
I cantering serious. Yeah no, I'm so deadly serious. Like
every character that she plays she puts like one hundred
and ten in respect. She's in Gossip Girl season three
as like this actress Saint Ursula and like.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
She gives it. What's that Disney movie where she plays
the life size Barbie doll when she comes to life.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
Life size excellent? Yeah? I mean that movie praised me.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Yeah. Oh I can't wait for that. Yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
And her like I think she has a really I
remember showing up because I don't think I ever filmed
with her, but I remember showing up and just seeing
the hair and I was like, this is exactly what
I want Tyra Banks to be doing.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Yep, did you watch?
Speaker 2 (39:48):
And I was obsessed with tyr So I grew up
being obsessed with Tyra Bank.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
We I think her talk show at the time was
maybe our first talk show we ever went on.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
And in New York was not well, we were. We
were all freaking freaking out. Oh my god, I didn't
know you guys were on that. Oh yeah, we played
musical chairs on her show. Is that the same show, Kevin?
Or was that a different show? I don't know. I'm not.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
I sort of blacked out the entire time because I
just could not. There was a big press star that
we had. We loved Tyra.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
That's so iconic.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
I wish she did that game with you where she
like changes the name. She'd be like scary J Blige,
What are you scared of? Well, like hairy J Blige?
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Well beyond, it's beyond. It's so good.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Okay, So yeah, abound for the bang specifically, and then
of course the STD suit STD suit, the std suit.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
Never forget, never wish I could. It looks like it
looks really solid. It was pretty solid. It just like
it smelled. It didn't smell.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
It smelled like plastic or cancer, you know, like it'
smell like some material that should not probably be worn,
should anybody? It was sniff enough or like once you
sat in it, it would like ride up. So then
my arms were forced to like sort of be up
higher than they would naturally, and it was rubbery, yeah,
(41:22):
but it was like very firm.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
It was thick.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
It was probably like an inch thick.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
So it wasn't going.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Where is it now?
Speaker 1 (41:29):
I don't know. I want to where did somebody buy
it or did they keep it? They auction a lot
of our clothes off and such and so I wonder.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
But nobody's gone in contact with me about that. I
feel like that's really specific and somebody would tell me, like,
I know, we've met the people who have.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
Yeah, maybe I should like looking to getting like a
piece of the ly memorabilia something like that, because I
think that's my next thing. I'm going to stop buying
stuff from shows like collectible.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Look, I don't know. Let me just warn you. I
want to support you whenever you want to do, but
I feel like it can be a slippery slope. It
takes up space. Next thing, you know, you could be
a hoarder. Well, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
Well, this all started because I was watching tomb Raider
Barcroft to Rader and Jolie and it's like a really
cool record player that she uses during the bungee fighting scene.
And I looked it up and you can buy the
exact one that she uses in the movie, like from
the prop department.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Oh wow, that's cool. That's kind of fun. It is
kind of fun, Becau.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
It's also is something you'd use practically, like I would
use the STD suit. Well, I would love to reach
the road. You could do your Glee recap in your
next Glee recap in it. Yeah, exactly, So I could
wear in something completely unrelated and just never mention it.
Speaker 1 (42:53):
One of my favorite things on dates.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Yeah, on dates. It's a good test. Yeah, exactly. Like
my next video is about cloudy with a chance of
meat balls, Like I could wear that and just turn
up and just.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
So good.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
I didn't write anything in my notes like song specific
except for the Adam Lambert intro.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
So what does he do?
Speaker 3 (43:17):
He sings Marry the Night?
Speaker 1 (43:19):
Yes, that's right.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Yeah, and then of course like the songs in the
puppet episode, Wow, what does the fux say?
Speaker 1 (43:28):
Oh, Kevin, breakaway is in this season? We love doing
this in Kelly Clarkson, Yes, Jumpin', Jumpin', I'm welcome. It's
Tina Artie and Blaine do Breakaway. I love Kelly clarks
We're singing about graduate. We're getting close to graduation. Yes,
and I just the three of us never did anything together.
(43:49):
I know it was kind of fun. You know. It's
another one that is done in this season. Is Gloria
loved that one? Oh yeah, they're some good numbers. There
are some really good numbers in this one. I fear
you've sent my expectations too high. It's like, remember there's
still McKinley scenes. Yeah, but they I feel like in
(44:10):
season five they know that no one cares about the
new characters. So all the McKinley stuff is the characters
that we love and that we know, like we're getting Tina,
we're getting Artie, we're getting Blaine, We're like, it's all
that kind of stuff. They literally drop all the storylines
of like Marley and the Boys, Jake so interesting, and
(44:35):
just they bring back all the other ogis.
Speaker 3 (44:38):
Yeah, and somehow move them around to places and then
bring in this free character right, and then yeah, just
keep an eye. One of my favorite things is how
they just justify the characters being in New York, right,
so just like maybe meet like a mental telly of
like that's such a reach, but sure, it's.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Like they're close, it's not that close. And this is
that's the most unhinged Christmas episode I think we've ever done.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
You know, I don't participate in Christmas episodes.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
Right, it makes sense. I actually I feel you. This
one is really beyond. So is this one called like
the lust Christmas episode and Christmas episode and it has
Mary's boy child and the Chipmunk song and away in
a manger and I don't know, it's just a weird one.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
Is this the black and white one?
Speaker 1 (45:30):
No, this is the one where we're in the manger
and Becky is like, literally, baby Jesus, Yeah, that's right,
and we all have like we're like all the shepherds
with the mustaches and the beards. It was just it
was beyond. I remember, well that's it's in the Diabolical
episode run. Yes it is, so that's why I thought so. Yeah, no,
(45:52):
it book ended.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
But also roll Katy Perry roll.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
Yes, we love that one, very fun. We really like
that one.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Yeah, on a vine in the wheelchair and I loved
doing applause. That was one of my favorite numbers. That's
one of my favorite songs. Full stop justice for applause.
It's my most streamed song ever. Applause, Yeah, Applause by
Lady Gaga.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
Wow, really what interesting? That is so fascinating about him?
That makes sense we are because you live for the appla.
It makes sense and I too.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Yeah. One second, I'm the Coons than Suddling the Coons?
Speaker 2 (46:32):
Is meow something to consider now our arts and pop
culture and me.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
Do you have any last thoughts before we let you go?
Any last words before we we wait and see you
at the end of season five if we can drag
you back again, Yeah, exactly, I would say good luck, okay, okay, and.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
Actually this okay, one last thing that I was gonna
say before, but I forgot one person that was not
in glay Stason five, but I think would make so
much sense in glay Stason five. And you can tell
me after you watch it if you agree.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
Tim Gun, m okay, I was going when we were
talking about s JP in New York and Stanley Tucci
and all that, I'm like, we need an older gay
in here, a mentor.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
I feel I feel that, Okay, We're going to keep
that in mind for.
Speaker 3 (47:23):
Sure, just like maybe you can think, hmm, maybe this
is the episode where Tim Gun yeah, okay, yeah, work
or like I think that Heidi says, one moment, in
next moment.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
You're out. Yeah, he's the same. Well, thank you so
much again for waking up and chatting with us about
season four, of course, and propping us for five. And
we can't wait to revisit this in twenty two episodes.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
Yeah, I can't wait to say what you think and
congrats again. You know, every time we do a little
check in with you, I feel like more going on. Yeah,
you're doing more and more. You're all over the place.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
It's great. I'm just up to something.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
You're always up to something. One said, I'm always in
a situation, and I really really are. But it makes
sense now that you know with the space lasers and
all that. Yeah, yeah, for sure, that's a brain that
doesn't turn off exactly. That brain is working around the clock,
clucked in, never clocking out. Well, we appreciate you, I well,
thank you, Yes, thank you so much, and it's great
(48:27):
to see you per usual, both of you as well.
Appreciate the research and the notes of course. Oh my
season six one are going to be excellent.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
Oh god, I don't even I can't even speak of it.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
I can't even.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
Speak of it.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
But you can't get into that get okay, okay, but
we will later mm hmm. By the rate we're going,
we'll see you in two months. Amazing, Thank you, thank
you so much.
Speaker 1 (48:54):
Bye. I love him. Oh, he's the best. It's always
so nice. There's just like some continuity consistency to see
him after we finish in a season, yes, and feel
like we can recap with him. And he hasn't let
us astray. He really hasn't. No, he knows all the
points that he says to look out for. He's totally
on point. It's excellent.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
Yeah, really excellent. Thank you Mike again for doing that.
Go subscribe to his YouTube channel. Watches incredible videos. He's
just obviously brilliant.
Speaker 1 (49:26):
I guess is this. Are we ready for season five?
My gosh, we have. I'm ready as will ever be.
I don't think you have a choice.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
I'm excited. I was a friend of mine was asking
me the other day about, like, how I'm feeling about this.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
Ni.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
You know, I really enjoyed season four because I didn't
really remember much. Season five and six I remember even less,
and I'm really looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (49:49):
But now we talk about season the bad stretch, which
I'm a little afraid about. Because it's so soon, but
here we go. Join us. What.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
Yeah, the beginning of season five is going to be really,
really tough, but we'll be all right.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
Hopefully we'll hang on, okay, and that's where you.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
Really miss Thanks for listening, and follow us on Instagram
at and that's what you really miss pod. Make sure
to write us a review and leave us five stars.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
See you next time.
