Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is Are You Kidding? Podcasts? I can listen with
my kids with brothers Sebastian and Brandon Martinez, who are
kids helping kids. Hey, everybody, welcome back to another podcast. Today.
We have two special friends who support us and do
a lot to the community. Without further ado, let's introduce
Brian Stephen. Hi you guys, my name is Stephen. Thank

(00:22):
you guys for having me here. I'm Brian. Um. It's
great to be here. Thank you guys. No problem. Well, well,
obviously you have to be here because there's no other
person that's willing to wake up at four hum just
to go so sucked with us. I mean, that's that's incredible.
How I do it? Like every time you go so sucks,
it's crazy. Well, thank you guys for just doing that.

(00:45):
Scare back to it all right, So when did you
first realize you wanted to be like a philanthropist and
help give back? So I first realized I wanted to
be a philanthropist. Um about four and a half years ago.
One night I was kind of just thinking about what
I can do and give back to the community, and
we decided to go out and help feed the homeless.

(01:07):
That's that's really good, especially because people who are homeless,
they really don't have much as phenomenal. And it's great
that you're working with us because there were you're you,
you inspire us to help give back more. And you're
teaching all these young people, all these young kids to
help give back, and you're even teaching adults because not
many adults give back. So that's great what you're doing. Yeah,

(01:31):
that's that's one of our goals in in in different
parts of giving back. So whenever goals is mostly about
teaching other kids, and especially young ones, that you don't
have to be an adult to do other things like this.
So you just have to be as you can be
as young as ten years old and just get a
couple of dollars and you guys can help out as
much as you can. Not some good advice, but also

(01:53):
why do you why do this is so important for
you to do this? Why do you like inspiring others
to do the same. I mean, for me, it has
to do more of thinking about how much you're going
through and how fortunate we are to have a house, food,
and a shelter to live in on the daily. Gives

(02:16):
a big impact into our lives. Yeah, and just so
you guys know me, uh me and Brandon and Stephen,
Evan Brian are like, well the same age, really really young.
I'm twelve, he's fourteen. Your fourteen is thirt and you're
sixing and it is really important to start young because

(02:37):
you are basically working for your future. You already setting
yourself up for success. Yeah, it's one of those big
things where you know you're working, you're already you're already
starting so young that many people are already viewing how
you're doing that, and it just kind of encourages not
yourself to continue going and you know, not stopping, but
it also encourages many other individuals and young adults continue

(03:00):
going and you know, helping others, Yeah, helping out. This
is a really big part of life. And speaking of life,
how does how does what you're doing right now? How
does it affect your output? Like your outlook on life?
How does it change your views? So right now, like
my outlooks in life is very uh different as what
used to be before, used to be before. You know, hey,

(03:21):
I'm just living life, you know, kind of going just
you know, I have everything in life. You know, I'm
very very lucky, very blessed. Um. But now I outlook,
outlook in life is different as and say, I feel
more blessed as I as I never used to. You know,
many other people don't have what I have, Like I
get to travel, where I get to do, I get

(03:42):
to help others that don't get to travel, don't have
a shelter, don't have food every night, um, don't have
parents either sometimes and don't have any family around them.
And also I feel like that also happened to me
because now like my outlook in life it's different than
it was before because you used like used to be like, oh,
just another day, you know, yeah, that's gonna happen, Everything's

(04:04):
gonna go fine. But now it's like, hey, stuff is
going on, and I really have to step up and
I have to do stuff after the community. You know,
we're fortunate enough to be to be waaed right now.
Unlike the other ones. They could be on the streets,
they could be going through chemotherapy and so much more.
And that we think sometimes we think, oh, our life's ending,

(04:26):
but in reality it could be so much worse. And
that that's one big thing that has gone through my
mind as helping others speaking of that. Yeah, if you
don't want something and like you're very mad, like sad
that you didn't get it, there's other people going through
stuff that are way worse, and that's it's like it's

(04:49):
important to give back to the people who are not
fortunate of so we could help give back so they
could have more stuff. Yeah, exactly. So it's very very
different at some point, you know, um, and many people
don't get to have everything in the world like you know,
others get to. We're very very fortunate. So I as

(05:11):
as you're saying about buying and you know, buying materialistic objects,
I've learned that, you know, at some points you gotta
just kind of like you gotta just say, hey, I'm
happy with what I have because others others don't have,
you know, others, others don't have like you know, loved ones.
It's better to have I feel, I feel I find
now until materialistic objects as you know, as you know,

(05:34):
just something it's like a normal little thing, like many
people don't have water. What is one of those big
things that's one of the living factors you need in life.
You know, it's very different compared to others. What message
would you give to kids about giving back and how
important it is. I mean, you're never too young or
too old to make a difference in the community. You

(05:56):
could be I'd say five, and you could do the
smallest act of kindness. Yeah, you just stole my pickup
line right there. That used to lines forever. Hey girl
read five. I mean that wasn't my pickup line. That
was like by saying, by saying, you're never too young

(06:17):
too old to start giving back or start a business
and make a difference and make a difference in the world.
And you know, it's very important. Like if we're like
if you're just living life and like you're yeah, I
completely understand. So I've I've I've gotten in the past
year and a half. I think I've I've gotten a

(06:38):
little wiser, as you know, not just you know, having
my own my own business, but also kind of growing
and helping more people in the world. I kind of
like realize, you know, I gotta start learning a bit more.
You know, I've gotten into reading, reading, watching more, you know,
podcast on how um how to build your life and

(06:59):
become a at a person, become a little more wiser,
And I've learned, like you know, people people stop at
at fifty five, you know, they retire and they think,
you know, it's the ends of their life. There's nothing
else they can do. But you you can't just give up.
That's just the beginning of your life, your fifty five years,
since you're gonna die. I also, I've also realized, you know,

(07:21):
you have one life to live. You gotta do everything
you can, and you just gotta continue going and throughout
that one life you have, you got to continue giving back.
If you're so fortunate enough, you it's it's it's the
best thing to do, you know, to do. On the
topic of giving back, why is it important for you
to get back? So to me, it's very important to
give back because I think since I was very young,

(07:45):
I've always been grown up, you know in a way.
You know, giving back is very important in in like,
you know, in life. It's one of the meaningful things.
And I've always you know, been very grateful and very blessed,
you know, to have a family that cares, loves and
allows me to do so many things, and you know,

(08:05):
allows me to allows me to travel, allows me to
have a shelter above my head, food on on every
all my plate every meal. Um, I've been able to
do so many other things that many other people don't.
So it's very important for me to give back in
a way as I you know, just can't just can't

(08:27):
be to me greedy to me, it's kind of like
greedy if I don't get back. And it's not and
not in a bad way, but in a way you know,
it shouldn't be. It shouldn't be as you know, Hey,
we have a hundred dollars, like you're gonna have you
have to spend all those hundred dollars. Now you don't.
You can you can buy if you're gonna go buy

(08:48):
a meal, you don't have to go buy an expensive meal.
You can go to you can go to McDonald's by
hundreds of meals for families, and you can buy yourself
including including those hundreds of meals. So what's the point
of just going to an expensive place? And also, you
guys were talking, you were talking about how your family
supports you. Do you think your family is your biggest
supporter or is there someone else or something else out
there that is your biggest supporter. Yeah, I think my

(09:11):
family is one of the biggest supporters. Um, family, If
it wasn't for my family, I wouldn't be able to
do what I've been able to do. It's it's being
incredible what I've been able to accomplish in the past
four or five years since I've started, you know, giving
back as much as I have. And yeah, a lot
of people around me, you know, support me and you

(09:33):
know give back and share what I do, and you
know say you're an awesome person. But that's that's just
that's just a small portion. My family is the most
important people that you care and very much appreciate and
show love to what I do and support me. And

(09:53):
So what's been your most most memorable experience like giving back,
I'd have to say going collecting items for the aftermath
of Hurricane Irma for the keys that and and feeding
the homeless, seeing what they go through and seeing what

(10:14):
they have gone through, hearing their story. Um, And a
lot of that is with courage and passion that it
takes to go out there and actually hear that, because
some people just go out there and just oh, here,
you want to meal, you're hungry? Yeah, they're hungry. But

(10:36):
what's your story? Has anyone made a special impact in
your life? Um? Yeah, I've had several um impactful like
moments life. So when going out to like say, um,
so I do a lot of I do on my owns.
On my own side, I have a nonprofit called Helping

(10:57):
Giving Hope, and on my own side we kind of done.
We've done several farm shares where we go ahead and
we feed over We feed hundreds of hundreds of families
that come out and we give them twenty five plus
pounds of groceries for them to have. So one of
the most impactful moments there was when uh, a guy,

(11:20):
an olderham gentleman comes up to me and I'm helping
him to his car with his groceries. He tells me,
thank you, you are amazing, Like you don't understand what
you're you're doing for me that I don't have. I
don't have any money. I didn't think I was going
to have any money for this week. I just got
here a couple of months ago from another from another country.

(11:43):
And if it wasn't for what I was able to
receive today, I wouldn't be probably having me for the
next week. So to me, that impacted me in a way.
I was I was very I got very t I
got t I at the moment, and I walked back
and I was like, wow, I am doing something great.

(12:06):
I didn't expect to do something. I didn't expect to
get that come. Um. I didn't really I didn't expect
to receive that talk from that guy telling me, Hey,
you're doing something amazing for me. Yes, that's great, that's good.
A lot of people really don't have much and when
what you're doing there and you're helping them out, especially
that he didn't even expect to have money, Like he

(12:28):
had no money, couldn't buy stuff. You just gave him food, Like, hey,
I got you man, and you're just helping him. Yeah,
it's really good what you're doing, man. And because of
your nonprofit, you're able to do this. Can and so
can you tell us more about your nonprofit because not
many kids have nonprofits. It's pretty ready to see kids
nonprofits these days. Yeah. So for the past couple of months,

(12:49):
I wanted I decided, you know, I need to find
another way how I can give back more since I
felt like I wasn't doing enough and we I found
doubt that the best moment was to start to start
a nonprofit to get back. And I came up with
the name about four years ago when I first started,

(13:10):
and that's when I first met you guys. Called Helping Others,
Giving Hope and what the nonprofits about. We give back
to others that are going through difficult times UM throughout Florida.
Throughout it's based in Florida, so we support and assist
many going through different GOL designs throughout the community. And
we've done so many different events from you know, helping

(13:31):
out UM the people through Thanksgiving times. We've also done Christmas,
so we've helped out different or other different organizations, not
just my own, and we've had so many donors and
so many people supporting us throughout that. One thing I
want to mention, you said that you didn't feel like
you were doing enough. I feel like people who think
that they're not doing enough and strive to achieve more

(13:53):
when it comes back to giving back to community are
just great. They're like legends basically because they just want
to get back more, because they just want to help
their community. I'll just want to help everyone that's going
to through a bad time, and I just want to
make everyone's lives great. And since he's like, oh, I'm
not doing enough, I have to upgrade what I'm doing
right now and then you're just helping out even more
and more. Yeah, So I did feel I felt like

(14:16):
I wasn't doing enough. Like, yeah, I was helping, I
was supporting you guys. I was always doing that. I
would always go out and give out to the homeless.
I would do the small different events once here and
they're there. But I decided I needed to do more
like I could not, like I could not just stop there.
I needed. I wanted to be able to do thankgiving drives,
hurricane relief drives more than what I already had. Um.

(14:39):
I wanted to expand what I was doing, not just
here in Miami, but around Florida, around the US. One
of our goals is going to be to work with
you guys even more because you guys are doing great
and we just want to team up even more and
help more people. And we love to host a farm
share with you guys, So for soon as you tell

(15:00):
me for farm share because some of them might not
know what it is. So I would love to host
a farm share with you guys. So a farm share
is a is another organization. So farms SHARE's another organization,
nonprofit where they help us out and we go ahead
and host an event where they bring up trucks and
they get donations from other people and they go ahead

(15:24):
and bring to the food donations so that everything is fresh.
We get to have. You know, there's there's meat, there's
also um juice, there's milk, there's fruits, there's vegetables, and
so much more. And we've been able to do so
much with them. They've helped us out and we've hosted
the right to events this year. In the past year

(15:45):
nineteen so we've hosted to it might go. This year
is actually the host more than that. And um, we've
fed a ready a thousand people with them. So how
we do that, it's kind of you know, we host
the event, we shared throughout the community and we find
a place to do it. I've been doing it at
my school. My school has been a great support also
with it. They've helped me out with the volunteers everything. Um,

(16:06):
we go ahead and you know, put that together. We
put the event together and we feed the families. They
line up in the morning and at around ten am
we opened the doors and they come in. You we
are very inspirational to us and you guys are probably
inspiring other kids to help give back. But who do
you give back to? And why is this so important
for you to give back to them? So we've given

(16:28):
back to a lot of people, but um, some of
the biggest, some of the biggest organizations and groups that
we've given back to. Her help give back to is
of course you guys. Uh, we've helped feed the homeless
with another group called a Battle There are an organization
that formed, um when we were on with with my

(16:50):
brother's help. When we're on the streets, then my brother
has has formed many farm shares. He has collected materials
to help all to help the aftermath of hurricanes, whether
it's from Hurricane Irma. So how do you feel about
our kids helping kids initiative? So it's a very big

(17:11):
initiative that I I like to pass on sometimes when
I'm out helping the homeless or whatever. I feel like
it could bring a very positive impact and could change
the world because saying that could get could possibly inspire
kids to say, oh you know what, actually, let's go help. So, um,

(17:36):
adding on to that were just not just not too
long ago, we decided for Christmas, we went ahead and
gave ways over sixty plus toys to UH an organization
called Lotus House where they have a lot of abused
families and also a lot of children that don't have
UM like a mother or a father in such cases.

(17:58):
I know that it's the whole Lotus Houses women, but
they also have a children's part and we give away
for their giveaway for Christmas, we give away sixty plus toys,
which was amazing, which was an awesome way for us
to get back to kids. Yeah, and I'm sure inspired
other kids give toys to the people who don't. Is
there anything else you want people to know about what

(18:20):
you guys are doing? So, um, yeah, we're we're doing
a lot of big things this year. We are going
to be most like, most likely launching a part in
our organization where we're going to be starting programs around
in different schools. So we are going to be starting that.
We're also gonna be starting a program in the also

(18:41):
in the schools UM most likely called it's called Blessings
in a Backpack. It's based out of Chicago, So Chicago. Um,
the Blessings in a Backpack starting Chicago, where you know,
each Friday they go out and they give a bag
two children that don't have you know, the need or
the money to pay for a meal. And I've realized

(19:02):
that many kids in Miami and around the world don't
have the money you know to pay for meals throughout
the weekend. They only have the money you know, not
even the money. They get the free lunch at school
throughout the week and they also get breakfast. So since
they only get that throughout the week, um, Saturday Sunday,
they don't have anything to eat. And my initiative for

(19:24):
that would be pain will be giving them a bag
each Friday to giving them meals including you know, mag
and cheese snacks for them to have for that sort
of situation. It sounds like a really good initiative that
should be started everywhere because there's a lot of people
out there that really need the food, that are hungry

(19:45):
every single weekend, every day and they just need something
to eat. So what you guys are doing right now
is amazing. And keep going on, Thank you, thank you. Okay, now,
can you tell us something fun about you guys that
some people don't know? I don't have to be a secret, so, um,
something fun about me that no one knows is I

(20:07):
don't just you know, like a lot of people think
that I'm very you know serious, you know, just like working,
But I'm not. I'm not. I'm I have my own
fun time. You know, I focus, I have my I
very I time my life. I put myself on you know,
a schedule where you know, I have a certain amount
you know I can I can sleep, I have a

(20:28):
certain amount of where I can go out and have
fun with my friends and family. I don't just keep
myself to me. Having fun is you know, as I've
told you, as I saw it earlier. You know, um,
you only have one life to live. So I very
very I'm very passionate with that, with that phrase, that's
my phrase. I've always I've taken that slogan on and
on through my life now and I've learned, you know,

(20:49):
I can't just you know, give, I just can't. You know.
I gotta do with everything I can, so anywhere I go,
if there's something I want to do, you know, I
do it. I just if I'm too scared, I'm like, Okay,
there's certain points, Yeah, I'm just scared. I'm not doing
it because I am going to either hurt me inside
or I'm gonna hurt or I'm just gonna I'm just
not gonna want to do it over again in my life.
So I kind of like, wait, you know, maybe I'm

(21:10):
not going to do that, but I know I have
one life to live and I've always said it and
before and I you know, I continue going at it.
And if I do if I don't like, if I
if I think, you know, I don't know what I'm
going to be able to do this in my future,
I'm gonna do it that day. I'm not just gonna
stop there. I'm always going to have fun. And you
know it's not everything is not just about work work work,
but you have to like what you do as such things.

(21:34):
So when I go get back, you know that's something
to me. I find fun and I find I find
you know, I like doing that, so I love it.
So that's why I do it, and that's my fun part.
So you're serious when you need to be, but fun
when you want to be. Yes, what about you, Brian?
Do you do something So this is off that topic
of helping this and all that stuff, but something weird

(21:57):
and fun I guess you could say about me is
I'm allegit to a lot of things, including green vegetables.
Oh so you're lucky. You know the vegetables, so you're
not healthy. So I'm not healthy. I'm also alleged to
peanuts and like seafood, so like all the healthy, all
the healthy food is like off, Oh well, now I
gotta eat my cake for lunch. So when your mom

(22:20):
is like eat your vegetables, you're like, it's green. Sorry,
I'm not trying to be mean, but that's a great
excuse for not eating vegetables. We just want to thank
you guys for being here and sharing your story for
everyone here. So thank you, Thank you guys for having
us been honor Thank you guys, it's been awesome. A
thank you guys. Bye bye. If you just heard Are
