Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up guys at Sophia Carson here and I hope
you had a beautiful Valentine's Day. You are watching my
most requested live Ask Anything Chat. So thank you so
much to the amazing Romeo and my iHeart family for
having me on the show, and thank you guys for
sending in so many amazing questions. Should we start? Let's
start with Anna from France Vonjeur will you be present

(00:23):
during fashion Week in Paris this year? I cannot confirm,
or denys Madeline from East Lansing, how would you say
your sound has changed from love is the Name to
I Love You? That is a great question, and it's
so cool to look back on my journey of the

(00:44):
last four years and see where I started and where
I am today. I just think my sound and my
music is growing up with me, and I think it's
just becoming more and more honest and more true to
who I am in the stories that I want to tell,
and perhaps even a little bit more vulnerable with each song. Okay.

(01:05):
Julianna from Garden Grove, California says, do you still talk
to Dove and Jay and Voo Boo? Yes, of course,
we have a group chat and we talk on it
quite often. Yeah. Yogasta from Brooklyn Amazing name says, what
was the best Valentine's Day You've ever had? To be honest,

(01:29):
I think it was last year or maybe a few
years back. It was just me and my sister were
each other's Valentine's and we came home and we kind
of had each for each other, like our favorite snacks
and like you know, Teddy bears and stuff laid out
on the table and just had like I think we
had a movie night and had dinner together, and you know,

(01:49):
you guys know, I'm obsessed with her. She's like my
best friend, So she's like my forever Valentine. Okay. Ivana
from Mexico says, what do you like most about your career?
That is hard to pick. I think my greatest blessing
or my greatest treasure is really being able to have

(02:11):
this and to have this with you guys, and to
have this connection and to really feel like, in some
way somehow my stories and my songs and my roles
can make an impact on your lives in any small
way that I can. And your support and your love,
and every time I travel and I hear you guys
singing my songs on the streets. That to me is

(02:31):
just It's the greatest gift in the world. So I
think that, to me is my favorite part of all
of this. You guys are my greatest gift. Carrie from
Hartford says, who do you love? That's a great question.
I see what you did there. I'm gonna say I
love you, give it the politically correct response and not

(02:53):
say who I actually love. Just kidding, I really, I
just love you guys. That's it. You guys, and my
family and my dog. That's about everyone that I love.
Agnes from Los Angeles says, can you describe your new
music in emojis? That's a good question. I'm gonna go
with the Heart because it's music that's coming from my heart.

(03:15):
I'm gonna go with the butterfly because it gives me
butterflies just thinking about it. I'm gonna go with the flame.
And I think those three summed up pretty good. The Heart,
the butterfly, and the flame. Okay, let's see who's next.

(03:37):
Sophia from NYC Hi, Sealfie, not the kidro the first
thing you do when you wake up. This is terrible,
and I have to work on this because the first
thing I do is I open my emails, like I
have one eye open and one eye closed, and the
first thing I do is check my email, which is
not good. So don't do that. I'm gonna change it.

(03:57):
So if I promise. Laura from Nay, she says, how
did you come up with the design for the me
to We Unstoppable Raffiki bracelet? I love it and wear
it all the time. It's so inspiring, gives me confidence.
First of all, Laura, thank you from the bottom of
my heart. That means the world to me. This Raffii
was created when we were I was in Kenya with

(04:18):
my sister, with the Wii movement, with the actual mamas
who make raffii's for a living, and with the money
that they make, they educate their whole families. And red
to me has always been one of my favorite colors
because it represents fire and the strength of what it
means to be a woman. I think it's kind of
like the epitome of femininity. So I wanted it to
be red, and so we kind of started off with

(04:40):
that color with the red and then the star to
me has always been really important to me, and the
whole concert oft Unstoppable Rafii's for you guys to wear
it and feel unstoppable. So that was kind of the
inspiration behind it. My phone locked, Okay, here we go.
Flirt Blue Flirt Blue Good from Albany, New York. If

(05:02):
you had to give us advice, what would you tell
us and why? I would say, first and foremost, to
realize how lucky we all are to have an education
and if you can to pursue your education and to
go to school and go to college. And then I
would say that if you have a dream and a

(05:24):
passion that you can imagine your life without that you
can imagine yourself without follow it fearlessly and don't stop.
No closed door is no behind. Every closed door is
the open door that's waiting for you. So no matter
how many knows or how hard it is, just be

(05:45):
fearless and boldlessly and fearlessly fight for what you believe
in and for your dreams. And I truly believe that
anything is possible if you really really believe in that.
Karina from Perth, what was it like the first time
you got noticed in public? It was pretty surreal? I
remember it was I think a week after the First

(06:06):
Descendants had come out, and that was really my first movie,
so my first introduction into the world. I was at
the mall Century City Mall in LA with my sister
and we were at a magazine stand and I saw
a little girl grabbing I think it was like a
J fourteen magazine that had before of us on the cover.
While she was singing, seted off and I coincidentially was

(06:28):
right next to her, So that was pretty cool. I
think that's everything. Oh my goodness, Thank you guys so
much for watching my most requested live ask anything questions.
Thank you for all your questions and all your love
and all your support. I love your Romeo, I love you, iHeartRadio,
and I love you guys so much. Thank you

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
