(00:27):
I want all of you to get up out of
your chairs, then go to the window. Open it. We'll
stick your head out of here. How our number two
of at the Window. I'm mary Llvstey here at Studio
thirty four, Midtown Manhattan, Garrett Smith at the Vandal Sports

(00:49):
Book in the Meadowlands. It's our number two of our show. However,
Jared and I are on air for four hours total today.
We've got you covered here on out the Window and
then in game live from two world clock Eastern time.
Even though we're kind of incorporating in game live into
this a little bit. Jared already talking about his Penn
State pick that he bet in game because he's thinking
advantage of being in Jersey at the Vandal Sports Book.

(01:11):
I'm so jealous. Yeah, I'm taking advantage of being a
homer and watching my team go down in flames. But
you know what, I'll go down with the ship if
Penn Steak goes down in flames. Today, I'm on board
because we're basketball school. According to the Thought song exactly
the line dance awesome. Butler though today at Create in
so it's another battle of two teams. Butler at twenty

(01:32):
one in the country according to the AP and Create
at fifteen. It's a four o'clock game and Creighton is
laying five and have points total one thirty nine and
a half at the moment. Jared Cretan is on a
four game win streak. How do you like them? Futures wise?
Creton is on a four game win streak. They've also
won eight of nine. And the Big East is a
very intriguing conference this year because we know the Big

(01:54):
East is like a fat steak. There's a lot of
layers there, you know, and and we don't know which
layers really to kind of, you know, peek their head
up at the right moment. Seaton Hall, I think is
the best team top to bottom, and I love what
what what the Pirates can bring to the table. I
think Kevin Willard is a very underrated coach. We all
know what Miles Powell brings to the table. But Craton,
to me, I think is the team to bet on.

(02:15):
And the reason why is because their future is odds
are so far down the board. I got him at
fifty five to one yesterday. I woke up today the one,
so already you know, good bet. But when you look
at this game today, I I think I think this
breads a little off. I know, I have my momentary
all you keep me in check. That's why you're that's
that's that's that's why we keep you around, right and
you know you keep me, keep me, keep me level headed.

(02:37):
But but but Craton to me a very fascinating handicap.
Everybody knows that Greg mcdermotts a great head coach, there's
no doubting that. But this year he actually has the
talent that kind of you know, in in inflates his
good coaching to the next level. It's one thing to
be a good coach. Craton has never gotten the top guys.
They've never gotten the top recruits. This year, they've got
a couple of guys that really fit that mold Tyshan,

(02:58):
Alexander might be the biggest player year. And I love
what Marcus the Gursky brings to the table. They're both
really strong in the backcourt. That's your backcourt, that's your
starting backcourt for Creighton. And and with that backcourt and
with McDermott's coaching, creating is a very versatile offense, one
of the better offenses in the country top ten in
adjusted offense. Their defensively something to be desired. And that's
why the five points they're laying today against Butler kind

(03:20):
of scares me a little bit. I really like this
Butler team a lot. They're a tough nosed team, a
tougher big team. They can get up and down the
floor as well point range. McDermott has been on fire
from outside for Butler. Yeah, And and like I said,
Butler's a really good team. Butler's one of those teams
that can come up and bite you at any moment.
Kamar Baldwin is a senior. He's about as tough as

(03:41):
it comes in the backcourt for this Butler team. Jordan's
done a great job in his third year and head
coach of the Bulldogs. So so Butler. So Butler's falling
back to the pack a little bit, Butler was actually
the team to beat in the Big East rankings wise
through through the first month of conference season, they had
that top ten ranking. They're now seven and seven in
league play. It's been Crton in Seaton Hall that have

(04:03):
been the hot team so far in the Big East.
In fact, I think if Seaton Hall slips, Creton can
win that league from a from a regular season perspective.
And unlike other leagues, the Big the Big East, I
think the Big Twelve is in there as well, you know,
the Big Ten. They're gauntlets. So I think the regular
season matters more to the committee in terms of seeding
than the conference tournament does. That's why I think what

(04:26):
Baylor in Kansas have done, they're already on the one line.
They could lose in the first round of the Big
Twelve tournament. Baylor in Kansas are one seeds. Same thing
with Craton. Creighton can establish themselves in the regular season
as that go to Big East team regardless of what
happens in a couple of weeks at the Garden. I
think Seaton Hall is one of those teams as well
where I don't think if they lose early in the
Big East Tournament. It's gonna impact their seating in any way.

(04:47):
In fact, I think if Creighton wins out and wins
the Big East, they could go up to all the
way a four seed. Right now, I think they're being
projected somewhere in the five or six seed range. I
think there's a lot of room for growth there with
Creighton because of what they've done on the regular season
and because of the schedule they have down the stretch,
very interesting schedule down the stretch. I was looking at
it during the break St. John's Georgetown and then that

(05:08):
game against Seaton Hall at home, the last game of
the regular season. If they win that game, they can
win the Big East regular season and they can lock
in a top four seed in the n c Double
A tournament. I think forty five to want is still
great value on Creighton. Matt Lumber will go down if
the Blue Jays continue to fly. Any story on Sean McDermott.
As I was watching Butler's last game and McDermott started

(05:30):
hitting all those threes, I said, Wow, McDermott's on fire
from outside. But to be honest, I didn't really know
his first name. I knew his name was McDermott. My
brother who's twelve years old, testin me it's Sean McDermott
and I said, no, that's you know, no way, And
then I saw his name's actually Sean McDermott. And I

(05:52):
don't think so. I don't think they're related, are they.
That would be weird if it was too Sean McDermott's McDermott.
Sean McDermott. I guess against won't be a G junior. Yeah,
uh no, you know the but I think Butler is
a little bit of a playoff team, to be honest
with the arie l I I don't love what they
bring to the table. Uh. In terms of their balance,
I think they're just a little I think they're one
player short of their rotation where they need to be.

(06:14):
And and McDermott, you know, three point shooting wise can
carry them. He at that monster three. Uh that that
tied that game against Seton Hall, but of course the
Pirates ended up winning it. On my boy Sandro Mamukavilley, Mamushkaville.
I'm gonna make you say that name at some point today, Mamushkaville. Yes, name, well,
so Butler. Every saying you know, started out the year

(06:36):
as one of, if not the top contender, and now
they're five and seven since January. How much does that
we are you with Butler going into the tournament not
as hot as they started, it matters a lot. And
you look at some of these losses Georgetown, Marquette, Providence,
those are you know, good teams, not great teams in
the Big East. I think they've lost to the teams
that they shouldn't have lost to. They had a bad

(06:57):
loss against the Paul a couple of weeks ago as well,
and the Paul the last place team in the Big East.
So I'm not thrilled about what I've seen from Butler. Again,
Laval Jordan's a young head coach, He's in his third year.
Butler's had a great program. Of course, that's where Brad
Stevens comes from. Uh So, you know, they have a
pedigree and and a unique kind of you know, intimate
atmosphere there in Hinkle Field House that's very hard to

(07:17):
win at. But when you take them away from Hinkle
and when you put them in a in a big
time game against the big time opponent in a big arena,
I don't know if their game translates as well. I
think they're a balanced team. They're a top thirty offense,
top thirty defense team, and again, we look to that
balance as our benchmark when we're grading teams. If they
can win in March, and they certainly have the pedigree

(07:39):
to do so. And they've had some good wins this year.
They beat Perdue on a neutral court, that's a good win.
They beat Stanford has had a really good season. They've
beaten Mississippi, They've beate in Florida. They have good wins
on their resume. But again, when we talk about the
landscape of college basketball, it's three seasons, the nonconference, the conference,
and then the postseason. Right now, in the second season,

(07:59):
the conference season, Butler's an average team. There's seven and seven,
So I just don't think that they have done enough
to warrant one of those top seeds. The Big East
is very tough. They're gonna get a little bit of
a push because the Big East Conference is very good
this year. But I think overall, I'm playing off Butler
down the stretch. I usually I'm really excited for the
a CEC Tournament because the teams are always the best
of the best in the a CEC. However, this year

(08:21):
the a CEC is on a downward slide. The two
the two conference tournaments I'm really excited for. Actually, are
the Big East in the Big Ten? Jared, which one
are you most excited for? Well, we go to the
Big East. I think there's your answer right there. I'm
fascinated to see, obviously from a Penn State homework perspective,
I'm fascinated to see how we translate in Indianapolis, Uh,

(08:41):
for that tournament in a couple of weeks. I don't love, uh,
the the prospects of us going in cold if we
continue of pens they continues to lose down the stretch.
Hope that I'm an a lum. I don't get that
way very often in February rail usually usually at this point,

(09:03):
usually at this point in the college basketball season, I'm
already thinking about pen ste football so or pen Se
baseball or pen State wrestling. Uh, you know, I'm not
thinking about Penn State basketball in terms of a serious
title contender at this stage in February. So it's it's
a bit of a unique situation for me. But I
think the Big Tent Tournament is gonna be probably the
more fascinating tournament. I think the Big East Tournament really

(09:25):
comes down the three teams. I think it's Marquette, I
think it's Seaton Hall. I think it's Creighton and Villanova.
I think you're throw in there as well. I say
that I would say that top four. I would be
shocked if one of those four teams is not hoisting
the Big East Championship trophy in a few weeks. It's
going to have big implications on the seatings as well. Oh. Absolutely,

(09:46):
I think Seaton Hall is actually a team that could
be based on the chaos we've seen over the last
twenty four hours. If Seton Hall wins out, wins the
Big East Tournament, I think they can get into that
one seed conversation the Big Ten. Actually, I don't think
there's a one seed in the Big Ten. I think
Maryland has a shot. Maryland has to win out the
rest of the way. They got a very tough game
today at Ohio State. Though we'll talk about that later.
But I I think Maryland maybe is in the conversation now.

(10:08):
But I just personally watching Maryland this year. I don't
think there are a number one team type of team.
I think They're a team that is certainly good. I
just don't think they're great. And don't tell Greg, but
I'm I'm watching. He's probably not happy anyways. Anytime I
see that, I don't know. There's something about Maryland. I know. Well,
every time I see that Maryland is a double digit favorite,

(10:29):
I always fade them. They don't cover. Yeah, and they
didn't cover against Northwestern the other night. Maryland defense but
not a great offense. The way that that went down
was really because my dad blew me off that night.
I was so excited to watch the Maryland game with him,

(10:51):
and he ended up going out with his friend because
he told me I was in the shower and doing
my hair and I wasn't down there. I said, no,
The point was I was showering and doing my hair
so I could watch the game with you. So he
blew me off. So I bet on Northwestern to cover,
and I said, I'm rooting for Northwestern. Now, sorry, Wow,
A spite that A spite that way? You know your
makeup just to watch a basketball game? No, No, not

(11:12):
my makeup. Just have to do my hair the night before.
It takes too long to do it in the morning.
That's fair. I wouldn't know. I just put a little
gel in and then it's done a little bit of
this looks great, Jared, and you look realized if you
today you got the suit look going on because you
you're at the Fandel Sports Book. No, it's a bomber jacket.
It's a bomber jacket area. I heard that. I heard

(11:32):
the kids. I heard the kids look cool and the
bomber jackets usually that were like the dorky, nerdy sweater.
So I went a little cooler today. You know. Yeah,
well that's a little more northern of you, not so southern.
So that's good. You have to fit in into the
meadow lands there. Looks like you're walking in with some stats.
We're gonna talk about the later college. I want to

window you're on sports grade on there is a beautiful

(12:35):
Sunday in New York. I'm in middle. Let's go run
for Penn stay. They were in three. Let's go Jared
Penn Steed in game fice, Jared, how does in game
beds going? They're great? Eight and a half and five

(12:57):
and a half. Theyre down three. They're on a sixteen
old run are Stephens? I know you were really about
to be down on yourself. I thought that you were
going to run out of the book and be so
disappointed that you bet those games live. Jared. It's not
even half time yet, dude, No, it is half It's

(13:17):
this it was I was saying that it was what.
I'll tell you what, if they come back and win
this game today, I'm back on the bandwagon area. I'm
on the bandwagon. I'm living and dining. Yeah, you're right,
I've never came off the bandwagon, but this would be doubt.
They were down like twenty in the first half. They
were not nineteen at one point in the first half.

(13:40):
Incredible st Nitney Lyons on the road, great stuff. And
I guess it brings us to a nice conversation about
the Big Ten. Another Big ten game, and we saw
a little line movement too, because Maryland is taking on
Ohio State in Columbus, and it was that it was
two and a half the line in favor of Ohio

(14:00):
State and now we're seeing Ohio State lane three. So
why is so much love on Ohio State with this
Maryland team that's top ten. I'm not surprised. Ohio State
has been really good of late. They've been really good
at home of late. They haven't lost the home game
since Minnesota back at the end of January. They've been
very strong at home. They beat Perdue, they beat Rutgers,
they beat Indiana by double digits. So this is an

(14:23):
Ohio State team that's figuring things out. Remember this is
a little hot State team that was like a top
five team earlier this season. Chris Haltman is a great coach.
They've got these two Western brothers that our studs. One
of them is I think is a senior U, the
other ones at junior. They're big. One of them is
a big man, the other one is kind of a slasher.
So a very dynamic Ohio State offense, and we talked
about balance area, top twenty adjusted offense, top twenty adjusted defense,

(14:43):
and unlike the San Diego States and the Dayton's and
the Gonzagas, this is an Ohio State team that has
an incredible strength of schedule. They beat Villanova by twenty
five points. That's about as good of a win as
you can get, especially considering how well Villanova has played
this year. They've beat in u n C. They had
a big win against Penn State or earlier by thirty
two points. They dropped a hundred and six on the
Nitney Lyons earlier this season in Columbus. They beat Kentucky

(15:06):
earlier this year. This is a dangerous Ohio State team.
In fact, if you want me to handicap the Big
Ten right now, I would put Ohio State at Michigan
in front of Maryland and Penn State in terms of
title contenders, because I think top to bottom these are
title type teams coaching big men, guards balance, that is
what wins you games. In March, Maryland's another one of
those teams. The thing that scares me about Maryland sometimes

(15:29):
is just their consistent offense. Mark Turgeon again, it's done
a really good job molding this defense. But offensively, they're
only thirty fourth and adjusted offense, So you know that's
not bad, but it's not where you would expect a
title contender to be. This is the top five adjusted
defense to right there. And I'll tell you what I
really like this. Jalen Smith, big man in the middle.
We talk about as a bookie for Kansas. Jalen Smith

(15:51):
is another one of those tall trees. I call him
a man mover in the middle because he just takes
up so much space and he makes it very hard
for other offenses to operate. Now we all are Cowen,
there is a trend. He's had nine straight double doubles
and Maryland's on a nine game win streak right now. Yeah,
Maryland's an impressive team. Maryland's a team. Maryland's a team

(16:14):
that's very dangerous area and and and don't get me wrong,
if they can generate offense from their defense while Pence
they just got a great play, Come on, come on
all the way, let's go, let's go down one, let's go. Um.
I'm gonna freak out. If they win this game, that's
probably the biggest win of the year. If they if
they go on the knock out a nineteen point lead. Yes,

(16:36):
if they're down, you're down nineteen in Bloomington and you
come back and win, that's huge. Back, just give up
an an one. All right? Back to Anthony Cowen. I
think he's one of the better guards. Yeah, exactly, Maryland
o'hill State. Sorry, I'm gonna trust stay focused on you now. Uh.
Anthony Cowen very very talented senior guard. Mark Turjon very

(17:00):
a very talented head coach. I like Maryland as a
team overall. I think if they win out and because
of their winning streat, damn it lost its January four.
So if they win out and they continue to play
well on the Big Ten tournament, from they can they
can jump up and be that one seed. You know,
we talk about the teams that are kind of you know,
ascending to that opening. There's an opening. Now. San Diego
State gave some teams that are kind of middling teams, Duke,

(17:22):
Florida State in the a c C, Maryland, maybe Ohio State.
You know, someone else in the Big ten can run
the table. Whin the Big ten tournament, run the table,
win the a CEC tournament. One of those teams can
pick up and be a one seed. My dad just
texted me, he that don't talk smack about Maryland. Take
the points? Would you take the points? Les three? No,
I like Ohio State? Actually sorry, Mr Epstein paying them off?

(17:48):
Or anti Maryland? Dad Maryland? Oh yeah, we're tired at
thirty nine, Maybe let's go. I wanted to run and
stay with that nine and a half. Last time we
saw when they were down and at plus four forty
on the money line. Jared, by the way, they're up
three right now. They just got to stop at another three.

(18:10):
I'm I'm a little bit ahead on the on the
live line here, So Pence, it's gone to minus two
and a half. Now, that's the worst that you can
see it ahead on your computer streaming time. Actually, never,
they just changed it on me. Never mind, they just
changed it on me. That was weird. Yeah, that was
fake news. No, that was FanDuel. By the way, did
you hear what happened yesterday with me and Fandel a fight?

(18:34):
I had an issue with Fando yesterday. So they fixed
the issue, and that's why Vanduel is the best. But
so I deposited money. I deposited five dars in my account,
and I wanted to put five hundred dollars on Kansas
to be a one seed at plus one ten, and
right when I clicked submit, my balance went from five
hundred to two eighty two. And that's because they took
money out of my account for a bet that I

(18:55):
made a week ago in Vegas that they said was
graded incorrectly, but it was graded correctly. So they made
a mistake and they took money out of my account.
And then when they fixed it, when I went back
to make the bet on CANDUs, line moved from plus
one ten to MI. I am moving lines, are hell,
I am moving lines. You're so special? Wow, And I
think that you. I think Penn State knew exactly what

(19:15):
you did by betting them in game, and they decided
in the locker room Jared Smith bet on us in game.
We have to win this game. That's what Penn State
said at the locker room. I'm glad. I'm glad that
you speak the truth. Someone had to say it. I
wasn't gonna be the one to say it. The Leeno
House date minus three. Let's switch to the American Conference
because big game. They're Which State at Cincinnati Cincinnati minus

(19:38):
board total one thirty five. What are your thoughts on
these two teams in the American Conference. You know, it's
funny because when we talk about the American Conference, arel
I think Houston's the one team that comes to mind,
is like the big dog. But Cincinnati is a very
good team. Cincinnati is a very underrated team. And I
really like this Cincinnati team because again, they're they're balanced,
and they're not as good as they have been in

(19:58):
years past. And of course this is a new head
coach and John Brannon. You know, we we we had
the Chris mc days and he did a great job
at Cincinnati, but now he's moved on to to greener
pastors at Louisville. At Cincinnati, I think has fallen just
off the table a little bit. I like the Cumberland kid.
I think he's a strong, uh you know, one of
those players that can kind of do things on both ends,
which is All States and other one of those interesting

(20:19):
teams we don't really talk about which Stall State that
much anymore. You know, they still got Greg Marshall as
their head coach. You know, they had Fred van Fleet,
they had you know, some good players back in the day.
But now they're moving on to that next level. They
don't have the wins that you would want to see.
They did beat Oklahoma State at Oklahoma and back to
back games earlier this year. I think those are the
two best wins of the year. I think the American
Conference is a little bit down this year. Yukon's not

(20:40):
as good as years passed. They have won three straight.
They are expected to lose this game, and I do
think Cincinnati does get the job done at home. However,
that is crazy. So Wichita State is a great defensive team,
and that is a team. If you're a good defensive team,

(21:01):
you can win any game in March. While the Aqueduct
Race one is really getting going here. Uh, Hopeful Treasure
the four horse coming down the stretch. It looks like
it looks like Hopeful Treasure is gonna win by about
two lengths. Um. Yeah, Wichita States a very intriguing team.
I think they're obviously gonna be a tournament team. Uh.
They will go as far as their offense takes them.

(21:22):
They will go as far as Jamarius Burton takes them. Uh,
the sophomore guard's done a great job this season. But
I just don't as an eleven. How much do you
agree with those seatings? I agree. I mean, I trust
Joelnardi's bracketology mine. I think he's about as good as
it gets when when it comes to this stuff. I

(21:42):
think the American Conference is slightly down. I think Houston's
the team to beat. Houston's the team that I played
on to win the title. One of the other future
bets that I made alongside. I dabbled in Florida State
as well. Yeah, I like Kelvin Sampson a lot. They've
got this freshman Caleb Mills coming off the bench that's
really good. And they actually lost a really tough game
all the road at Memphis yesterday by one. But you know,
Memphis a tough place to pay. Memphis is the other

(22:03):
team that I think. Unfortunately we are not going to
see that best Memphis team because James Wiseman and all
the issues that he's had this year. But Penny Hardaway
has done a good job with the Tigers. I think Memphis, Houston,
Wichita State at Cincinnati are those four tournament teams in
the American Conference, and I'm impressed to kind of see
which one emerges in the American Conference tournament in a

(22:24):
couple of weeks, Cincinnati up by one point thirteen to twelve,
Wichita State getting thirty three and a half points right
now in the game against Cincinnati. Another American Conference game
going on. In the second half of twelve point twelve
minutes left, East Carolina at home against Temple. East Carolina
has a one point lead at forties six. You see
you still getting one and a half points despite being

(22:46):
a one you know, having a one point lead. Jared, Yeah,
Temple has been. Temple's an interesting team. You know, they're
coming off that big double overtime went against yukon the
other day, so I you know, they had a tough
loss against Nova, which which I think is kind of
indicative of where their season is. I don't think they're
an elite team. And you know East Carolina better than me.
They're They're not very good, So no, they're not. So

(23:09):
just real quick, because you mentioned it, A Florida State,
how much do you like Florida State going into the
tournament because we haven't really spoken about the A c C.
I love Florida State a lot. I love Leonard Hamilton
a lot, and I think the A c C. You know,
they're not gonna get those big names in. Duke's gonna
be there, Carolina won't be. But for Florida State needs

(23:30):
needs your attention. Florida States the top for the offense,
Top twenty defense. And what Florida State though so well
is they get on the glass. One of the best
rebounding teams, one of the best block percentage teams in
the country. And that to me, if you can score
and you can rebound, you know that's basketball right there.
Put the ball in the basket and grab it when
it comes off the basket. So Florida State Force a

(23:53):
senior very underrated. I would take Florida State more consistent. Interesting,
those are the two to watch shore in the NCC tournament.
Them and Duke would to see matchup. It's gonna be
interesting with U n C not being the strong dominant
team we usually see. UNC and Duke have played each
other in the semifinals of the a CC Tournament for
the last two or three years. It'll be a matchup

(24:14):
that I'm sure we'll be missed, but who knows, maybe
UNC makes a run. We'll talk more about college tubes
at the window next. XFL too want to light the
lamp on draft Kings and fan Duel this NHL DFS season.

(25:14):
have some Sunday Football Act and I'm so excited the
XFL in Week three we saw two games yesterday, two
games now today the New York Guardians are at the St.
Louis BattleHawks. The Guardians getting ten and a half points,
the biggest spread on the board this weekend. Jared, how
disappointing you are the Guardians right now, especially after not
being able to score in any of their red zone

(25:36):
trips last week. Matt mcgloyd speaking of Penn State. Not
exactly the Guardians seriously, Uh, you know, I feel like
I feel like the guarden was funny when I was
driving into the medal and today you saw the Guardians,
you know the banners up on the front there. Uh wow,
Pet State's really rolling right now. Area for already to

(26:00):
steal in a bucket. Um. I'm very impressed with what
I've seen from from from the d C team. If
you wanted to go back to that game last week,
and you know, card L. Jones looks like the real deal.
You know p J. Walker looks like the real deal
as well for Houston. But you know, in terms of
the quarterback play, I think that's where we've seen the
biggest separation in terms of the good teams and the

(26:21):
bad teams. And and I'm a little bit disappointed with
the coaching on on on all fronts. I think the
I think the XFL needs young, hit, offensive minded coaches
because right now we're seeing Mark Trustman and Jim Zorn
and Kevin Gilbride old. I know I want to see.

(26:41):
I want to see double forward passes. I want to
see three point conversions. I want to see no more
fueld goal attempts. What are these players and coaches have
to lose the seasons ten weeks long. It's not like
if they go out there and lay an egg can
make really aggressive calls and they don't work out. I
don't know if I agree with that. I would have
rather seen big name players than big name coaches, because

(27:05):
I think coaching is where this league can really separate itself.
Because of the rules and how different they are, We're
not seeing these teams take advantage of any of these
weird rules. In three weeks. We've seen one double forward pass.
We've seen barely any trick plays. We've seen one converted
three point attempt. I want to see fun. I want
to see excitement. That's what this league is about. I

(27:26):
don't want to see Mark Trestman rotate three quarterbacks just
so they can hand it off on every play. Like
I want to see excitement, and I don't think Trestman
and a lot of these like old school NFL CFL
coaches are really getting it done. That being said, I
love what we've seen from card L. Jones. He's making
plays like Patrick Mahomes. Granted he's got a little more
you know, cushion for the push in there. Maybe we'll

(27:47):
call him Patrick Mahomes, But I really love what card L.
Jones has done for this DC Defenders team, and the
Defenders this week favored again the line at minus eight
and a half in favor of the Defenders, Wildcats plus
two seventy five the money line total at Jared. With
that being said, Cardell Jones up against the Wildcats past
events is was intriguing to me. Jones has probably the

(28:09):
trio of receivers that's the best in the league right now,
DeAndre Tompkins or Shad Ross, and you have Eli Rodgers
out there. So with the Defenders having to face like
only Seattle in New York though, how much do you
think that because it face just the two lower tier
teams in the XFL, that this could actually be a
slid matchup for them against the Wildcats. Yeah, I don't think.

(28:31):
You know, it's funny the matchups. I don't think we
know enough about these teams yet to really break down
the matchups. What you said makes a ton of sense.
I think quarterback play is the first place you look,
and weapons is the second place you look. Eli Rodgers
had a decent career in the NFL with the Colts.
He's a really good receiver. DeAndre Toompkins has had a
decent nfls. You know, he's had a couple of cups
of coffee in the NFL as well, so you know,

(28:51):
the matchups certainly favor d C and because of what
we're seeing with the scoring and the kind of you know,
variance with the conversions. To me, there's no difference between
nine and a half ten and a half, eight and
a half, seven and a half, Like the spreads are
not as important. I take the game Mourensi approach. You
picked the team that you think is gonna win, and
you bet that team, and you move on with your life. Personally,

(29:12):
I'm not betting the XFL and I and I and
I know that we're supposed to be on top of
all these teams and all these games. Personally, I have
not seen enough yet for me to put my hard
earned money on these XFL teams. I don't know enough.
I don't see the consistency enough. The offensive line play
has been dreadful, but coaching has been incredibly conservative. So
I'm watching it's interest. I'm intriguing with it. Yes, we

(29:38):
haven't seen any aggressiveness. Actually aggressiveness is overs go from
aggressiveness total three and seven, with seven of those being
towards the under. The three overs have actually all gone
to the Houston Roughnecks. Yeah. I mean that doesn't surprise
me at all because Susan has got the most dynamic
offense in the league with p J Walker. Now, p
J Walker is the guy. If you were gonna ask

(30:00):
me pick one player that's going to be in the
NFL next year, I take p J Walker because he
can do a lot of different things, kind of think
of what Taysom Hill did with the Saints last year.
He can throw it, he can run, and he can
catch it. He can do a lot of different things.
He's a very Yeah, he's a really impressive kid. Uh
and and and and he's one of those kids that
can do a lot of different things. And that is

(30:22):
what I think the XFL needs more of. They need
guys like p J Walker to throw sidearm passes and
to have you know, crazy rollouts where he's getting tackled
and then he gets out of the tackle and he
runs the other side of the field and he throws
it down it's wide open for a touchdown. That's what
the XFL needs. The XFL does not need all I'm
gonna hand it off to you three times and then
kick a field goal. We see that in the NFL

(30:42):
every Sunday right, he's been out three and oh this season,
and I would say that they are the favorites behind
the DC Defenders right now as two of the top
teams to make it to the championship on April twenties six.
What are your thoughts? I think right now, the best
quarterbacks are gonna be the teams that the teams are
the best quarterbacks will be teams that are playing for
the championship. D c uh and Houston. Cam Phillips three

(31:05):
touchdowns from p J Walker, So cam Phillips was the
one excuse me, one receiving yards for cam Phillips p
J Walker through the three touchdown passes. I had them
mixed up. UM Tampa Bay, like I said earlier, gave
their play calling duties from Trustman over to Jamie Elizondo.
So Trustman is not even making those calls anymore. For
the O and three Tampa Bay Vipers, people before the

(31:26):
season started like the Vipers to win the championship. That
was before anyone even saw any of the plays, any
of the players, any of their style. They just I
think like their name and their colors, and I think
people actually like Trustman. Yeah, and that's why you know
you don't bet these games. Seriously. If you want to
throw a few bucks on them, fine, But if you're
putting high bankroll percentages on XFL games in week three,

(31:50):
I think you have uh to to think long and
hard about your bankroll management because you just said it
right there. The team that everybody thought was gonna be
the best team in the league the worst team arguably
in the league. It just lost seven to the Houston
Next yesterday Penn State game is getting really intense. Now

(32:10):
they're down one. Yeah, they're down one right now, and
they just gave up three straight buckets. They just called
time out. I think, uh, I know they didn't call
time out, but they're sending a lot of guys to
the bed. Penn State. I'll tell you, man, Penn State,
I want to like, I'm waiting for the endvil to drop, area,
I'm waiting for it to drop. I'm waiting for this
team to just go back to the form that we've

(32:31):
seen in years past. Their last game today was the
day m Lamar Stevens just missed a tough shot five
and a half. Looks like it's a little shaky now.
They had a six point lead a minute ago. This
has been a This has been a crazy second half.
How much time is left in that team? Minutes left,
still nine thirty to go and they just got called

(32:52):
for a little ticky tack foul there. And you know,
I want to be a buyer this Penn State team
because of what we done in years past. There, I
just there, I'm just you know, I have this like
you know, like it's almost like a recurring nightmare of
Rudy Fernandez in the n C Double Tournament ten years
ago hitting a last second shot to beat Taylor Battle

(33:13):
And uh, what was the best Penn State team that
it was in recent memory? Uh? And I just I
just I just can't get I just can't get over
the top right now with them. I I want to
believe they need to win this game today because after
this crazy comeback they needed, they need to put a
stamp on this game. If they could come back from
nineteen down and now they're down four, that a one crap.

(33:34):
This is getting bad. I'm I'm riding the roller coaster
with this Penn State team, Mariel. I'm gonna ride the
highs and I'm gonna ride the lows. I can tell. Yeah, Well,
in the XFL still we have one more game to
get to that did happen yesterday and the Dallas Randegeeds
beat the Seattle Dragon to twelve. We'll get back to
Penn stating a little bit. Jared Talas covered as closing
at three point road favorite stayed under the bedding total

(33:55):
of forty one, yet again another under in this game.
What's it out to you? Yeah? I mean I think
Landry Jones is one of those guys that certainly can
be a just a difference maker in this league. You know,
we had another two and seventy yards passing yesterday through
for three touchdowns, also through for two picks, which you
know that's what you're gonna get with Landry Jones. But
I think Quentin Dunbar is another one of those really

(34:16):
good players or excuse me, Lance Dunbar. Uh. You know
we've seen his name called in the NFL before, so
Jones Dunbar. I mean this is a team, you know,
this is a renegade team that certainly can compete. I
I just don't know how good they are because Landry Jones,
I don't think it's as good. Unanswered yesterday exactly, and
that was a very good comeback because they were down
to alve nothing. Uh, Penn States now starting to miss

(34:38):
some shots. I think they expended a lot of energy
to go on that run and now they're gonna kind
of fall off just a little bit. Don't lose hope.
I know I'm not losing hope. I think I could.
I think I'm gonna cover the eight and a half
for sure. Come on, hit that three. It's the neutral
mindset from Trevor Moward came in and spoke to us
about his book. It's the Russell Will and neutral minds. Okay,

(35:02):
you do what's in front of you. You know what
you you know you have to do to win. You
trust that Pence State knows to do that. And if
they sit there and say that they're tired on the
bench because they took too much energy to make a comeback,
then you know what, they shouldn't be in the tournament anyway.
You're right. See the thing is that i have no
control over what they're doing on the floor. I'm just
a neutral observer, not a neutral mindset. As Indiana, yourew

(35:25):
of foul goes back to the lawn. You know, this
is the ebbs and flows of college basketball. Pence State
went on a crazy run. They're back in the game now.
Indiana's making their push. Penn State time out here at
the under eight time outs coming at a good time
for the Ninny Lions. They need a little bit of
a breather. So I did ask our insiders for the XFL.
Joe Leasy and I asked um. I asked him about
which games he likes today, and he says St. Louis forty,

(35:48):
he likes the over and l A plus eight and
a half. He does not like the Guardians at ten
and a half. I said, isn't that so many points?
He says, don't take them, they're atrocious. And then I
also was able to ask about Mike Blueett, and Mike
Bluett said that he does not like New York as well.
He likes St. Louis, but he wants it to be

(36:09):
below so taking an in game and if he's total
because New York offense is just painful. He likes DC,
but will wait till the end game and get it
below eight and a half. He already has the overforty
for So those are our XFL insiders thoughts. You heard
Jared and I his thoughts. We're going to continue with
more here on at the Window. Next on Sports Grade.

Get all the grid her final segment here on at

(37:18):
the Window before we switch over to in game Live. However,
you get Jared Smith and myself for both of these things.
It is a funny end to our at the Windows
segment because something crazy happened in the NHL last night,
something no one's ever seen before. The oldest goalie has
won a game in goal at forty two years old.
His name is Dave Airs. You might never never heard

(37:40):
of him. He's a Samboni driver. Not only is he
a Samboni driver, he's a kidney transplant survivor and had
two bouts with skin cancer. He won in Gold for
the Carolina Hurricanes last night. As the Hurricanes lost both
their goalies, they brought Arison as a backup he had.
He got five hundred dollars they paid him for getting
get to play in that game. I think it it's

(38:05):
worth of two. I think it's one of the craziest
stories you'll hear all years. So Peter mraz It gets hurt,
then James Rhymer gets hurt, and then they call on
this Heirs guy who's and and I have a friend.
So I have a friend that I worked without on
Long Island who's who's also an e bug, an emergency
backup goalie, and he does it for the Islanders, and
the Islanders pay him five hundred bucks. He goes to

(38:26):
the stands, he sits in the stands and he just
watches and if something happens to the starting goalie, then
he will go down and suit up and then he
will wait, and then if something happens to the backup goalie,
then he gets put into the game. Every single team
has this, and he's the e bug for the visiting team.
So when a road team travels to a home arena,
they're only carrying two goalies. But every team hires an

(38:50):
e bug in every visiting arena to sit in the
stands and be that guy. And last night Carolina was
in Toronto when they hired this ebug, and I'm sure
David does it for a lot of Toronto games. He
probably goes to many Toronto games and he's the e
bug for the visiting team that comes in. Most of
the time, you just sit there and watch. Yeah, he's
like in there. He's in the Toronto minor league system exactly,

(39:13):
so he's he doesn't play for Carolina's system. He doesn't
even play for anybody that's even in like an NHL
caliber team. He's a backup to a backup to a backup.
But the funny part about this is when you get,
you know, put into the fray as an ebug, you
don't get much time to think about much. You're basically
I can't imagine what was going through his head. I can't.

(39:34):
I can't. We're down five, we're gonna I don't think
we're gonna win this game, unfortunately, But to get back
to my friend David Ayers, I do think that it
is probably one of the coolest stories you'll see all year.
The postgame locker room video was awesome with this guy.
Rob Brittain, more of the head coach of the Hurricanes,
gave us such a cool speech and and you know,

(39:55):
I can't imagine that the guy's not only a zamboni driver,
he's a kidney transplant survivor, which is near and dear
to my because my dad's a kidney transplant survivor as well.
But this guy's forty two years old. I mean, it's
an incredible story. And he played pretty well last night,
and you know, they won the game. About got the
win in goalie and apparently Big Keynes, which is a
huge honor to be able to sound the pregame siren,

(40:16):
and the Canes are going to bring Airs in to
sound the pregame siren on Tuesday. The Keynes are also
already selling airs jersey's and they said that Airs is
allowed to keep the jersey that he wore in the wind. Yeah,
it's about as cool. It's about as cool as a
story as it gets. It's kind of like, you know,
you're you're you know, it's it's what the all the

(40:37):
kids dream about when you're growing up. Now, I know,
you're like, oh, you want to be a forty two
year old Damboni driver. That's not what kids dream about. No,
kids dream about being the unsung hero and being called
upon in the big moment to make the big play
and coming through for your team. And the fascinating part
about this is that he's not even on Carolina. He's
not even a member of the team until he actually
got thrown into the fray yesterday. Ohly at hockey? Can

(41:00):
this happen area? Only in hockey? Can this be a
story where a guy who was not on the team
the day of the game gets thrown into the game itself,
wins the game and then becomes a cult hero of
that team. Only at hockey, And that's why we love
the NHL. And also a Vetchkan broke his record of
his seven career goal in the same game, and yet

(41:22):
no one's talking about it because we're talking about airs
and GULLI. Yeah, congrats to Alex Atkin. Seven goals, incredible accomplishment.
He's tortured my Rangers. Many teams agreed, Yeah, I think
he is. I again, the Capitals are a very dangerous team.
Not the defending Stanley Cup champs, but one year removed,

(41:42):
and I definitely think that Washington will be a force
to be reckoned with. And what is an interesting Eastern
Conference playoff picture this season? Capitals are actually playing right now,
They're down to one against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Capitol post
two thirty on the money line, total five and a half. Hmm.
I looked at that game earlier. Again, I don't you know,
if you want hockey picks, Gabe cam there's certainly much

(42:03):
better at that than me. And and I'll give you
my opinions on on on hockey games. I think the Cats, well,
I know my limits areall. I'm a call. I'm a
really good college basketball handicapper. I'm better at the NBA
than I probably give myself credit for. But college basketball
is my strong suit. I would say, Penn State down
by seven with about five minutes to go, where do
you see this game finishing? I think Penn State ran

(42:26):
out of gas. They went on that crazy run twenty
one to two, four extended run, and now Indiana's answered
back with a fifteen two run of their own. Penn State,
I think is going to the line here now the
one foul a gift still for Indiana. So Penn State
down seven with the ball four and a half minutes left.
The eight and a half looks like it's okay. Maybe
we'll hit the eight and a half, five and a half,

(42:47):
maybe we'll go one and one here. I I don't
think Penn State has the I I don't think they
have the gas to finish here. I think they kind
of ran out of gas during that run. Don't we
see that all the time? Uh, when when you're down
by a lot and you make a big run to
come back, you just don't have what it takes to
finish it. You might make it a close game, And
Penn State was down nineteen in the first half. It's
now seven point game. With Lamar Stevens going to the line. Yeah,

(43:10):
I thought, well, it's got as high as nine and
a half, so we bought the bottom for sure. Uh.
And and five and a half I think was a
good bet as well. I do think this is gonna
be a close game down the stretch. I just don't
know if we have the gas uh to finish the
job here. I think they expended a lot, expanded a
lot of energy, uh during that run to get back
in this game. Lamar Stevens just hit a big front
end of the one and one there Uh, to make

(43:31):
it a five or six point game. I'll have one
more free throw to make it a five point game,
so we could hit the five and a half. I
feel confident about the eight and a half. Great game
for Lamar Stevens. Twenty six points, Uh, now make it
twenty seven points. Penn State within five to go. Uh.
And and I give credit to Pat Chambers. He's he's
he's bringing Stevens in and out offense. For defense, he's
bringing Mike Watkins into the game. Watkins is one of

(43:54):
the best six men in the country this season. Uh.
He's kind of that second unit guy, and he's a
big man. Kind of liking him to as a booky
a little bit. Oh, big turnover there. Penn State just
forced to turn over and got a foul, so they're
going back to the line for two free throws. So
maybe they can cut this to a one possession game.
Miles dread big steel there for Penn State. So this
is gonna be a close game down the stretch, as

(44:14):
it should be. This is a one point game on
the spread. Pre game and than any Lions, Uh, give
give give give credit to them. They could have packed
up the shop down nineteen in the first step. But
they're making this a game. Yeah, we'll talk more about
it on in game Live coming up next because we
will have the end of that game as we transition
into the next hour of our show. However, which states
Cincinnati in halftime? Cincinnati leading Jared right now at half

(44:38):
time is getting three and a half. Yeah, let me
take a look at that box score. I actually have
not been paying too much close attention to that game.
We talked about being certainly the better defensive team. Oh wow,
you're bringing the puns today, Arell. I love it once
my ESPN at just I'll take a look at the
box score and see. Yeah, but you've you've certainly got

(44:58):
your moments. You've certainly got your moments. I tell you.
The American Conference is interesting. We talked about Houston, uh and,
we talked about Memphis a little bit. We talked about
which itall uh and and and Cincinnati earlier. Looks like
Wichita is not having a great shooting performance in this
game in the first half. I would say Wichitas is
probably a decent bet in the second half if they
can shoot it a little better in the second half.
I don't know what the live line is right now,

(45:20):
but Whichitas twenty eight points on twenty nine percent shooting
in the first half. They're out rebounding. I think the
plus three and a half the decent number I would
I would take the points. I would take the points
with Whichita state. They have not played a good first half,
but they're still in this game, all right? Best bets
time before we can go back to more of our
in game live talk. As we hit the two o'clock hour,

(45:43):
I'm like losing track of what time it is. What's
your best bet of the day, Jared? I like Ohio
State a lot. Uh, you know. I I was looking
at the Creton game and I put Creton on the
on the rundown last night before I saw the lines
come out. I think that Crighton line is a tad
too high. If it was two and a a for three,
I would be inclined to take the Blue Jays today
because I do think Creating at home is a bad

(46:04):
matchup for Butler, but the line is putting me off
of that. I think Crateon still wins the game. I
just think it might be a closer game than people think.
Ohio stayed at home. I love big tent home teams.
We're seeing it today Indiana. Even though they they gave
they gave up that big lead. You know they're they're
still keeping the in any lines at arms length here
and I think Indiana probably will cover at home. I
think you mentioned it just how good big tent home

(46:24):
teams have been. As Race two at aqueducts down the
stretch they come super Silver, the two horse. So here
comes the three making a wrong. Oh it's a three horse,
gonna get him at the nose. Oh, the three horse
beats out super Silver at the nose. And the second
race at Aqueduct fun stuff. You're getting into the Kentucky

(46:48):
dirty mean, you know it's funny. If I had money
on these horses, i'd be going crazy area. But I
don't know what. I don't have any I know, I
don't have any dog in the fight or horse in
the race so to say here, So I'm just kind
of calling it fun race though almost a photo finish
there at Aqueduct at race too. I don't know what

(47:09):
the three horses name is. I love I love the
horse's names. Aria, that's my favorite. Best. You should have
one named Jared Smith. It's not as nice though it's
not really a great horse. No, that's a terrible horse horse.
I'm taking today the Toronto Raptors. I like them at
minus five and a half, especially out for the well
doubtful for the Pacers. I haven't seen the status of

(47:29):
him being out yet. However, Toronto at home this season
they have been hot eight in a row for the
Raptors at home. I'll take Toronto. The points aren't scaring me.
Minus five and a half. Wish I could take it
on the money line, but not value there. You can
take it on the money line. How about we how
about we do a parlay. How about we do Toronto
money line and Ohio State money line. That could work,

(47:53):
especially because then I get to go against my dad again.
I know you love going against your dad. You should
be careful with that, considering you're still living in his house.
It's okay, I mean, listen, you know he feels bad
for me. I guess when I go against them and
then he says, ah, you know what, I'll make you
some dinner. And I say, okay, um, yeah, that's nice. Yeah,

(48:15):
that's why we love you. Mr Epstein. It's okay, but
he knows that it's all in good fun. And you
know what, Maryland did reject me from their school, so
I don't feel really Oh yeah, forget about that. Depends state.
I went to Penn State. Well, obviously into Syracuse because

(48:37):
you're a superstar going any lines, baby, Yes, Pen State
basketball is better than Syracuse basketball. Who would have thought
that spewing game live? Col We'll keep talking about those
Miitney lines as it gets down to the stretch. Jerry
Epstein Jared Smith at the window, tryings bring into in
game live and you m
