to know some HBCU students that are on the rise.
Who is Chris Johnson Beyond mass Communication?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Chris is a men's mental advocate, the student leader at
his HBCU. I attend North Carolina Central University.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Tell us the top three things you wish more folks
knew about the HBCU experience.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Not a lot of people think that coming to an HBCU,
it will be so friendly, so open, everyone's so welcoming,
the amount of networking skills and communication skills that you
build upon. And then the last one will probably have
to be long term friendships that you really make.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Was there anybody impactful in your life that you have
a mentor who mentored you really?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I would say my mom. She also attended North Carolina
Central University. She graduated two years after she had me.
So that's really like an inspiration to me to keep going.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
I love that. That's dope. Inspiration. What would you say
is your future maker mantra, It's.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Not about what you know, it's about who you know.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
If you can make one change right now to get
closer to the next level of success, what would it be.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I really wish HBCUs and PWIS really connected a little
bit more because it's a lot of things that HBCUs
can learn from PWIS and it's a lot of things
that PWIS can learn from HBCUs. So that networking is
there a little bit more. It will make the college
experience on both sides a little bit more easier.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Chris, thank you so much for joining me.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Thank you for having me.
