Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, everyone, welcome back to Batcher Happy Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I'm Joe and I'm Serena, and we are.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Here with Grant's first Impression Rose recipient, Alex Alex, Welcome
to Bacheler Happy Hour.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Hello Joe and Serena.

Speaker 4 (00:15):
Thank you for having me and not only the first
Impression res recipient, but the recipient of the first one
on one day of the season.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Oh yes, yes, I know. I had Uh yeah, I
had so many first.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
First, were you aware when they threw that out there
that that was new? Did they say it? Did Jesse
say that that's like a new thing?

Speaker 5 (00:37):
He did, He said that Grant was very.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Already.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
I can't think of the first word. My French was
kicking in. Oh my gosh, what's the word for it?
In English?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Say it in French?

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Is French your first language?

Speaker 5 (00:52):
It is my first language. But you know what sucks
is I do not have an accent. But it's because I.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
You know, so it would be better if I had
an accent.

Speaker 5 (00:59):
It would kind of give content excluse. But then I
do this and they're like, uh, yes.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
It is my first language.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
I was talking to someone. So we have friends of ours.
There are a couple they're from New Brunswick.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
And what's part Oh my gosh, it's so small. Maybe
I know them well.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Serena's Canadian, I'm Canadian from Toronto.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
I know it's amazing. I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I don't know what part I would have to check.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
But I was talking to her a few months ago
We're at an event and I was saying, is the
fact that you went to school because you went to
school and miss me a fully French school, are there
words that you're like, I still don't know the English translation?
Because she was like, yeah, like when you learn the
word like subtraction, She's like, I don't use that in
my day to day life. So she's like hit, like

(01:44):
if you go to like university at an English speaking school,
there's like a language barrier.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
This is so not on top of the batchel.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
I just find it so interesting because like Toronto doesn't
have this right, Like French is our second language, but
most people don't speak it.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Don't speak it, or I know a little bit, and
it's like can I go to the bathroom please?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
And that's kind of where it adds.

Speaker 5 (02:03):
Yes, absolutely, And I still do certain things like I'll
say things like can you close the computer or close
the light and it's turn off like little things that
I mean, I'm not as bad as anymore, but I
used to say for sure, Yeah, it's tough to but
I started. I started dreaming in English, so that means
that it means that I'm apparently it means that you're
starting to really be immersed in that language.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
So that's a good, that's a plus. The word I'm
looking for, sorry to get back to bachelor, is meaningful.
I guess he was very guys, help me out, not meaningful.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Intentional, intentional, I see you because messy.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
So to go back to the question, Grant was very intentional.
So he wanted to give the first impression Rose or
to the person he wanted to go on the first date.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
With, which, honestly, I think it makes sense and it
should be like.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
That, because it's like, if I give you the first impression,
it means that you're kind of intriguing, you're kind of
piquing my interest, right.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
I think percent No, we we liked it.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
We thought it was a fun twist, and I was saying,
I feel like the person that gets the first impress
rows usually ends up not getting that one on one
time for a little bit of time.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
So it's nice to be like, hey, I like you.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
I feel like that person should then it should be
the obvious choice to be like, I want to spend
more time with you, because the first night getting the
first impressed Rows, it's like getting a group date Rows.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
You didn't get a one on one with.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
Him exactly, And then it's like, what's what what weight
does it hold.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
To have the first impression Rose?

Speaker 5 (03:28):
If you're not going on that first one on one, right,
that's kind of where.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
Yeah, yes, but you're also biased. You know you got
the first impression.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
I know it's like easy to say now that I
have it, I'm like I should have all the dates.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Actually I don't want to.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I want to stay on topic with the show, but
I do want to ask one one question about Yes,
the French language and you're from is it Quebec.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
No, So we are a small minority and I'm going
to put us on the map of French speakers in Brunswick, Canada.
So actually, fun fact, New Brunswick is the only bilingual
province in Canada. So the northern part is fully French
and the southern part is English and at the border.
We have what we call Frenglish and schiech, so it's

(04:15):
a lot of I'll do it because this is funny.
But the classic sentences was step Parqueton car, let to me,
not a parking lot.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
So a lot of you probably understood that.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
Joe, right, yeah, yeah, it's like where'd you where'd you
park your car? So we step Parkqueton car done, parking lot.
So a lot of Frenglish. But I'm from the northern part,
so I only learned English in the tenth grade, so
pretty late.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
And I used to say things like I didn't heard you.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
I didn't saw you, and I was like, and I
remember my English teacher in my French school before I switched.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
To an English school. She was very concerned.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
She thought, oh my gosh, this poor lady, she is
going to repeat all her grades as she goes to
English school because I.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Was very, very bad at it, but I picked it up.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
How is it that you have no accent?

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Okay, so this helps that I'm a speech therapist because
I used to have one up until I became a
speech therapist.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
And for example, I used to say, oh.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
I love that seventies show, and until I became yeah,
speech therapist, and we like obviously study like accents and
like speech production. Then I was like, oh, it's not show,
it's show or show. I don't even know if I'm
doing it right show.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
So and I would just I don't know.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
I would record myself a lot, listen to myself in
high school and I was like, ooh that sounded French
and yeah, just by practice.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
So then how was it going on a US show
where Frenish is your first language, English is your second language.
But I mean, as a Canadian who went on the show,
there's a lot of vocabulary differences. Like I remember being
like could I go to the washroom and one of
the producers being like what. I was like, the washroom?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Do I have time? They're like where what?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
And I was like, I just I have time to
go to the washroom.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Who.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, I was gonna say, who doesn't know that's common sense?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yes, But he's like, sorry, it took me a second,
Like no one calls it that here, Like just little
things like that.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Where you're like I love the story, what story?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, I love that story.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
I call it washroom And I'm.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
An American okay, but yeah, but maybe I gave a
bad example.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Okay, but I know what you mean. There's definitely yes.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
There's definitely yes, absolutely American Canadian for sure. That was
actually my biggest concern. I remember before going on the show,
I asked a producer. I was like, like, if I say
something wrong or I trip on my words or they
gonna edit that out, and he was just like no,
just like it might be funny and honestly, it might
make your charm. And the girls were so nice. They
it felt like they were little teachers because they would
say things.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
And be like, what does that mean? Like hail Mary?

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Had never heard that in my life. So I was
like they were talking and they were talking about like
a hail Mary, and I have to obviously look like
I know what they're talking about and.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Like hm hm, And I was like on the side after,
I was like, so what does hail Mary mean?

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Okay, So yeah, let's go back to the beginning. How
how did you wind up on the show.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
So this summer, I was driving with my friend and
then I got someone reached out to me. And usually
it's like those scams about like oh I'll be your
sugar daddy, And I was like, oh wait, is this.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
One of those.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Foot pegs.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Can you spend foot pigs for five dollars?

Speaker 5 (07:31):
And then someone reached out and it couldn't have been
at a perfect timing because you know, I had been
single for a while and I come from a really
small town where all my friends are married have babies,
and I'm kind of like the crazy one because I
live in LA And I felt like super ready. I
was like, Okay, I've had my fun, I'm in a
good spot in my life.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Where I have a good career.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
The only I know it sounds cliche, but the only
missing piece is like having a partner. So I really
felt like it was like a sign from the universe.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
I was like, this is perfect timing.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
How long have you lived in La?

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Now it's gonna it's turning on two and a half years.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
Yeah, two and a half years that I did in
my trip from Ottawa to here in my two thousand
and seven Hondi accent with two doors and no.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Ac Oh my god.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Yeah yeah that was crazy in five days.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Like but the Bachelor, we're not talking.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
About what what brought you at to La.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
So I my personal idea of hell is snowshoeing. For
the rest of my life. I just hate winter activities.
I am not a winter gal. I can do the
snow right, thank you. Are you from the East Coast.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Joe, or I'm from Chicago So it's really really cold? Yeah,
really cold?

Speaker 3 (08:47):
One, you get it.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
And then I got my green card and I had
to kind of choose where I wanted to live, so
I was like, why not California. I feel like it
has the best best of both worlds.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
So nice.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
I want to ask you how you got your green card?
But is that something we should not talk about on record?

Speaker 3 (09:03):
No, Oh my gosh, that's totally okay.

Speaker 5 (09:06):
My dad moved to the US before I was born,
so he was already here.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
And then I got the there's a name for it, Serena.
It's like the I call it the kid visa.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah, I got talking about So.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
I got it through. Do you have your visa yet?

Speaker 4 (09:21):
I'm going to work visa right now, but we're in
the green card process that I'm married, but I have
no like familial ties to the US.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
You don't or you do.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Well I do prior to him, which is why I
was like, did you like secretly get married?

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Maybe get married? Oh? No, no, no, this is not June. Yes,
this is not no. No, no, my dad lives guys,
I did it legally. No, my dad lives in the US.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
So I got my green card through him, Gotchatka.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
And then what was what was your dating life like
prior to this show? Like, when was your last serious boyfriend?

Speaker 5 (09:56):
Yeah, it's gonna sound super again cliche like, oh, it
was a non existent but to be honest, you know,
when I first moved to LA I think it's like
a rite of passage. You go on so many days
You're like, this is so fun. And then I started
realizing it was taking a lot of my time and
energy and I wanted to give my time to the
right people. And this year, this last year was just

(10:21):
really focusing on my friends and we traveled a lot,
so I didn't really have time to date. So the
last serious boyfriend I had was like a year ago,
and we ended on really good terms were I don't
want to say we're good friends, but it was a
very amicable breakup.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
And yeah, the last year was just spend on like traveling,
and yeah, that was that in my life.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Nice, Sorry, well you're perfect for the show. Then what
did you what did you think of Grant.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
I thought he was very That was my first thought,
emotionally mature, which I'm at an age where I that's
a quality I'm looking in my partner. And I mean,
he's handsome, he's tall, so I'm like, Okay, our babies
are going to be perfect for basketball. I'm kidding, I'm kidding,
but yeah, my first thought of him was very emotionally immature.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Man, did you watch the show at all before you
went on it?

Speaker 5 (11:13):
Like?

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Did you watch him on GEN season?

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I did? And he's when they asked me, like, oh,
who do you have a crush on? He was? He
was named?

Speaker 1 (11:21):
I was like, Grant, did you wat did you watch
the show prior to being asked to go on it?
Or did you get asked? And then like, let me
let me dig into this and see what I'm signing
up for.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
I had watched it before, back in like when it
was like one Pablo and Colton season, and then I
stopped watching it, So of course I wanted to kind
of get a little bit more of like who Grant
was to see if it was a good fit. So
I did watch Gen season and I thought it was
you know what, this is probably the question you're gonna
ask me after he's eat your type definitely handsome, like attractive,

(11:53):
my type physically. The one thing that was concerned about,
and it wasn't anything on him. It was more of
a me thing is I'm not super romantic and something
I've always struggled with. And he came off very romantic,
very intentional. So I was like, Okay, let's go with
an open mind, opposite to track. Let's see if he
can take the romantic out of me or bring the

(12:15):
romantic out of me.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
And let's just say that he got me out of
my comfort zone many times.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
So but I feel like that's okay.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
I feel like, rarely do I know relationships where the
two people are.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Equally romantic, which I think it becomes.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Like when one person's really romantic, but when they both are,
it can be like too much cheeseball.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
Yes, I agree, it's I actually know now that you
say that, I agree because I feel like it was
nice to have different qualities and bringing that out of
each other. And that's what I kept repeating too, like
we were so opposite. But I feel like I was
bringing stuff out of him and he was He's he
was bringing stuff out of me. And you can see
in the problem of too how you can tell that
I'm not romantic and he's singing to me and I'm.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Like, yeah, but but I'm.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
Like I in that moment, I was like, Alex, just
p like, like someone's singing to you. How nice is
that you've never had that done before? Just enjoy the moment.
And That's kind of what was going through my mind.
But I was also like, I'm not used to this.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Well, I think I think regardless if you're romantic or not,
I think it's a difficult position to be being sung
to the.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
First one on one guys.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Yeah, being serenadd is it's intense and.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
You don't know the person.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
It's like it's different if I, you know, it would
have been the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
I know him. But it was kind of like, hi, Grant,
I'm Alex. Okay, let's sing to it.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yeah, it's intimate. It's intimate.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
I sing the Serena all the time.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
But yeah, but like, is.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
It like lallah by to go to bed? Okay?

Speaker 4 (13:44):
I thought you likely original.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
I love it, love it Okay, So it's not like
a lullaby for her to go to bed and she
falls asleep.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Far from it, Far from it.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Let's talk about your limo entry, how you made the
decision to walk out of the limb or you weren't
even in a lemo right because you had the Lama.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Linda no drama Lama Linda Mlada Linda.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
No.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
I had the stressful situation to walk the whole driveway
and see him look at me the whole five minutes
as I can't walk too fast because I have a
lama with me.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
But think, honestly, it was a plus.

Speaker 5 (14:22):
That I had her because she was like calming my nerves.
I was like talking to her. I was like, are
you nervous because I'm nervous.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
It was like your emotional support animal.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
He was my emotional support animal.

Speaker 5 (14:31):
And I mean, I don't know if I can tease this.
But then I got something on my one on one
which I kept as.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Also an emotional animal.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
No see, I'm missing it up I that I also
kept as my support guys, call me out.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Here, animal, You're good. I'm gonna say messy every time
I screw up in it. So people are reminded of
French people.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
Hey, guys, Wrench, I'm French.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yes, So yeah, she was like, my, I can't.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
It's a giveno. You know Nemo when she got he
goes and the Maine memo.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
And emotional super animal is a tiue twister, okay in
any language.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
So you walk up to Grant, you have you have
the lama. You gotta get rid of it. Yes, what's
the connection like with Grant? Do you feel butterflies? How's that?

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (15:31):
So I just want to say that he is hotter
in motion, like he's obviously hot in pictures, but then
in motion. I was like, because I came in really confident,
thinking like I got this, and the second I saw
him the nerves. I'm pretty sure, I said. I couldn't
remember what I said. I'm like, did I even say
the right name? I was like, did I say my
name was Bianca for Michigan?

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Maybe no idea, I said, but it's a for me.
It's a good sign.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
When I'm nervous and I don't know what I'm saying,
it means that I'm like, I don't want to say
in timid, but it's a good sign. I had the
butterflies blacked out, but thank god I had kind of
Linda to revert back to. And he thought He was
playful as well, which I loved because I need for
me my partner. I want my to be goofy at
the foundation of everything. To me, It's like I want

(16:17):
to be your best friend. I want you to be
my best friend. So yeah, from off the bat, I
think we clicked over that.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
How did the leveo, sorry, the Lama entrance come to be?
Was that your idea? Was that like maybe a suggestion
that you guys workshopped together with the show?

Speaker 5 (16:34):
Yes, So initially I wanted to bring ketchup chips and
because I was like, I love ketchup chips, It's something Canadian.
And my producer was like, oh, that's a good idea,
but let's take up let's take up something else. So
I was like, okay, that's a nope. So we were brainstorming,
like you know, I agree. I was raised on a farm,
I'm Knadian and you know, as you know Serena, where

(16:58):
Canadians tend to be a friend lee and not confrontational.
So people were like, how about a no drama Lama
And I was like, wait, this is bold. I wanted
something bold because I'm my personality, but I also didn't
want something too over the top, But now that I
look back on it, I'm like, I brought a lama,
so it is kind of over the top, but I
wanted something in the meat, like in the middle.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
So that's how it came around about.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
I love it. I love it. It was very memorable.
I feel like it was a good one, I know.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
And I'm like, am I gonna be remembered as like
the lama girl?

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Maybe a little for like the first couple of weeks
and then then okay, and.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Then they'll know my name's Bianca okay from Michigan. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
So then you walk into the house, you meet all
you meet, all the women, a you know, are you
gravitating to anyone in particular? How's how's the vibes in
the house?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
In the house? Well, at first, it's funny because I
had my lama. I knew I had my lama.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
I kind of forgot she was there, and everybody like
when I came in the house, everybody looked at me
like this, and.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
I was like, oh my gosh, you have like what's
wrong with my dress? And then I looked at it.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
I'm like, oh my gosh, I have a lama in
the house, Like this is not common, so everybody obviously
wanted to touch her, pet her, and I remember there's
two girls that I kind of gravitated towards, which were
Rose and Janet, and we kind of stuck together during
first like night one, which was really nice. Yeah, so
of course there was like little, you know, groups of

(18:28):
people together, but I feel like the consensus is, you know,
it's the first night, you're putting your best foot forward.
Everyone's really sweet and nice. So I feel like we
were all trying to mingle together and kind of trying
to gauge who was our vibe.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Yeah, well there's twenty five women. You're not all going
to get along equally. You're trying to find people that
you like, feel comfortable around to get through like a
very uncomfortable night, and you're like, all spread my wings,
you know, if I get.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
The exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Exactly yeactly going through your mind when grandsister came through
the house, did you think it was just another like
did you think it was an ax or where were you?

Speaker 3 (19:11):
I was sitting on the couch and I was like,
oh my goodness. I was like, okay, there.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
The production's changing it up this year, like it's giving
Love Island.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Am I on the Bachelor?

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Yeah, it's giving hot new Bombshall enters.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Entering the beda exactly, mansion exactly.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
And then of course we're all like so much as
going through her heads. We're like, is this a new girl?
And I'm like, she's beautiful first of all, like, don't
do that to us. So we're all trying to peet
to see. And then they looked too comfortable for it
to be a new girl that he had never met.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
So I was like, okay, is it like a cousin?
Is it like an ex? And I think someone knew
it was his sister.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
I was gonna say, there's got to be someone that clocked,
like I've seen her on his Instagram.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yes, and that's what happened.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
And I was like, okay, I want to say she
was on the left of me. I can't remember. Oh
I have the memory of a goldfish.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
No, one of the girls, one of the world. Yes,
they knew. They were like I think that's grandsister.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
But girls were like up in arms. They were like
should I interrupt them? Which would have been crazy.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
Oh yeah, girls are going off like night one. Like
the possession starts quick.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Very quick.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Very the possessiveness, the possessiveness there, you get me both
both learning English.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Yeah, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
For do you go to Paris a lot?

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Not even I've been twice.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
But it's nice because then I get but you know,
it's funny because we have like a little bit of
a it's not the same as a French accent, it's we.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Have a little twang.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
They'll go to English and I get so insulted because
I'm like, no, we're French.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Or they'll say, oh, you have a funny accent.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
I'm like, they like look down on like Canada French.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
A little bit time, especially Quebec French. What do you
think I can see that?

Speaker 3 (21:00):
Well, I can say that.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
I mean when you're in Paris, they look down on
anyone that doesn't speak the language.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
So yeah, that makes sense. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I was like, I've only I've been to Paris once
and I love it, but I'm like, I really wish
I spoke the language, or like you kind of understand it.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
I mean, we have French immersion, but no I didn't.
I took French from grade from I think we're required
to take it from like fourth grade to ninth grade
and I did it, but by ninth grade I was
like barely skimming by, Like I was like, this is
not I just don't have a knack for languages. Like
I feel like if you're starting something at fourth grade

(21:42):
unless you're good, Like at a friend that was great
with languages and she just could do it, But most
kids are like, I'm too old to.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Pick up a new language.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
Twelve, No one in this province speaks French French.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
I know.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
I know.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
It's like you you known't, You're not around it, and
you're like, you're right. It's an affinity for sure. Like
I pick up languages really quick, so it's easy for me.
But some people, like again they've seen French their entire
lives and they still just know how.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
To say, yeah, that's me.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
I feel like if you're from Quebec, or even if
you're in Ottawa, there's a little bit more of like
a motivation, but like being from Toronto, especially from the
where I'm from in Toronto, like we have a huge
Chinese population, so like a lot of things are in
English and Mandarin or like you're going to learn and
there's even less motivation to learn French.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Well every time, every time I fly to Toronto and
they and they start French. I'm like, nobody here. I've
yet to be anywhere in Toronto, anyone speaking.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
It's like different than like Montreal. I was gonna say,
go to have you been to Montreal before?

Speaker 2 (22:46):
I've been, Yeah, but he hasn't been yet.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
You guys have to. Oh my gosh, it's the most
for me. It's the best city.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
And do you say no no? I said, yeah, no,
I really.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
He's from Auto. Oh he's from Montreal. You're right Auto.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
I thought I did my master's in Ottawa, and then
I was asking him.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
He was like, oh my gosh, I still I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
That one of those University of Well I did in
Brunswick for my undergrad and then I did the University
of Ottawa.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
For my grad school Montreal.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Yeah, so Nippina, Okay, all right, you got me. He's like,
he's like, you got me.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Back back on topic. Okay, So you get someone on
one time with Grant? Yes, before you get the first
impression Rose, how how's that conversation like? From our point
of view as a viewer, I thought it was the
first time of the night that I saw Grant seem
really comfortable with someone. For me, when I'm watching the show,

(23:44):
especially night one, when I see the lead comfortable with somebody,
usually that's a sign that they really like them. So yeah,
I just want to hear your take on how that went.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
Absolutely so the first thing he told me, he like
grabbed my hand and he said, you're.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Like a little ball of energy.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
And at that point, we're so tired because you guys know,
the night is very long, and I felt dull, and
I was like, really, I'm like, you think this is
energy because I was like, I feel pretty well energy,
so like just wait. And honestly, I went in there
just being again I keep saying the word cliche, but
it's true.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
I just went in being myself.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
And one thing that my the last text that I
got from my friend before like they took our phones away,
was like just be yourself and like they will love you.
And I went in there being like worky self. I
kept saying things at the wrong time. I was like
saying things. I was like, I just don't have said that,
and that's my normal self. And I think obviously it

(24:38):
worked because he saw he.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
Either thought it was charming or he thought I was psychotic.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
I don't know, but it worked, and I did feel
I really appreciated that even if I was kind of
all over the place, he kind of calmed me, which
I for me, that's a really good sign because I
need again, I need somebody that's gonna ground me for sure,
and and that's something I felt with Grant right away.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
And then he also, you know.

Speaker 5 (25:04):
Told me, he's like, whatever was going on in your
little hamster wheel in your mind, I have it too,
I just don't externalize it. And I was like, oh,
great we have That was actually really sweet. Yeah, so
that was a very sweet body moment.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
So you left that interaction feeling good. You guys kissed
where are you at?

Speaker 5 (25:25):
So at that point I knew it went really well,
but you just you can't gauge how his conversations went
with the other girls, and one of the girls that
I was really really close to, they had so much
in common, and at that point, I was just so
happy for her and we were like all thinking, like,
she's going to get the first impression bros. That so
I really thought it was going to be Janey, my
girl Jenney, and I was so happy I was.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
She goes home and Serena actually said when we recapped
the episode that you were shocked.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
She was the only one that I was like, Oh,
I wasn't expecting her to go. Not that the other
girls weren't great, she was just one of the Like
from watching the first episode, I was like, ah, like
there's a little something.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
She seems cool, and.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
Especially that we vibed really really well, I was like, Oh,
he's definitely like if he likes me, he's gonna like her,
especially that they.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Had so much in common.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
So I was like, yes, like you're gonna you're at
that point you're like rooting for your girls because you
don't you don't have that attachment yet, right.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
So I was like, yeah, it's like today. So yeah,
it was very shocking.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
And if you guys end up asking me like one
word to describe the season later on, I'll say surprising,
because there's a lot of surprises like that.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Okay, well, we will not ask you now.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Because I'm ahead of my.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Which is great.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
At this point, I don't even need you guys.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
We're really taking a load off of us.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
You're like, if you asked me this this, I was like,
actually that was what we were gonna ask you.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
One man show one Man show no.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
But that's good to know.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
I like hearing that it's going to be surprising, because yeah,
you don't want it to be predictable. You want it
to be exciting and surprising. So surprising.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
So then getting the first getting the first impression rows
and it coming along with also receiving the first one
on one. How are you feeling. I mean, that's kind
of like you're in the best position at this point.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (27:16):
The first I think feeling I felt was validation in
the sense that it really validated that, hey, I can
literally just be myself and like be funny and like
I could just be quirky and funny and who I am,
and it's going to work because he's obviously seeing that.
Felt very validated and very grateful. But at the same time,
it's a tough situation to navigate because you want to

(27:38):
be happy, but also you don't want to have a
target on your back and you don't want to boast
it in front of all the girls, right because you're
still trying to make meaningful relationships with the girls and friends. Yeah,
and you don't want to come off that's me anyways,
I don't want to come off too strong, like I
got this, So it was tough to like kind of
high my excitement but also be excited at the same
time and validation and feeling good.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Yeah, that is hard because it's like mid season.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
You kind of know who it's like, Oh, whoever like
just got the group date Rose and I can bond
or like whoever got the one on one last week
and I. But it's like at this point, everyone is
on the same playing field and you're the only person
who's taken a step up, so you're kind of on
your own when it comes to like like they're happy
for you, but you also are.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
There's no one in that house that was truly happy
for you, and that jo.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
I'm gonna be, you know what, I'm gonna be the
devil's advocate. I feel again, maybe I'm super wrong because
I'm like naive with that, but I feel like because
I really again I'm Canadian. I was nice with everybody.
I feel like the girls were genuinely happy for me.
Like I didn't come off as yes, I had a lama,
but I wasn't like bringing the lama to be like, hey,
I'm trying to stand out in that.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
Way with the girls. It was more like ha ha,
like Lama would be funny.

Speaker 5 (28:54):
And I feel like I really made sure to talk
to everybody and be nice to them that I.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Felt like they were happy for me to an extent.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
But now if I say it out loud, I'm like,
Joe's right, I'm like, no, there's no way.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
It's probably mixed feelings.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
You know, everyone wishes that they were the one to
get it, but also it's so early on. Their investment
in Grant isn't as strong yet. You're a sweetheart and
you're not like a jerk.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Like if you were like like the bitch of the house,
then I could see everyone being like, oh no, I'm
even more mad, but you're not.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
So was there any portrayed me like you never know?
You are great?

Speaker 3 (29:28):
You o great? Good God?

Speaker 4 (29:30):
Was there anyone night one or any you don't have
say names, you don't want to where it was like
people might have been less happy if she got the
first impression ro she was maybe stirring up a little
stuff early on.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
I think, you know, we all have different personalities and
we're gonna vibe with different people, I think, And we
all have different backgrounds and we have all different ways.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
To approach social situations.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
I do think that, you know, for me, I just
wasn't ray. I don't know, maybe it's the Canadian in me,
but if someone says, hey, I love your dress, I
won't say thank you.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
That's just not me. And I think maybe some people
came off like.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
That to a couple of girls, And I think, to
answer your question, maybe if that those people would have
had the first impression rows it would have set the
tone as to what is Grant's type and what is
he looking for? Because for me, I'm super different from that.
But again, we all show different sides of us to
different people, right, so, and we can have different connections

(30:33):
with different people. Doesn't mean that we all have to
be the same. But yeah, I think from my perspective,
there's definitely maybe a couple of girls.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
That, yeah, there was like shots.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
Xoxo, Gas Girl.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Okay, I'm watching Gossip Girl.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Okay, the first time.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
I have never seen. Is it good?

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Would you recommend so it holds up?

Speaker 1 (31:00):
It's actually pretty good.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
I recommend it's every other start is just amazing. But no,
I like your answer, and I think it is honest
and truthful in the sense of like there's gonna be
girls that are a less controversial pick than other girls

(31:23):
when it comes to give it the first impression Rowse
and what that stirs within the house.

Speaker 5 (31:27):
Right and especially I think as the first impression, I
think a lot of it is.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
No, I'm going to retrack that Quese, No, because.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
I was gonna say I think like the first impression
Rose usually. Again, I don't want to know because it
can depend on the conversation, never mind scratched out.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
Were you going to say that, like people that make
a good first impression with the girls are like being
a first impression with him?

Speaker 5 (31:50):
Yes, I think again, I haven't seen every season, and it's.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Okay, we can like generalize. There's always an exception, you know.

Speaker 5 (31:56):
Exception of course exactly, but I think, yeah, if you
exude I think like positivity. I think the person like
the Bachelor's going to see that and it's going to
also bleed into like the friendships with the girls.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
So yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
But besides yourself and Janey, was there anyone else from
your point of view, that had a strong connection with
Grant in the house night one, or that maybe the
other girls were also you know, considering her to maybe
be the first impression roles recipient.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Honestly, I don't think we really talk because everyone had
really good conversations, so we didn't really have anything to
gauge it based on. We didn't really have anything to
really gauge it on, so because we would talk and
we'd say, oh, I had a great conversation, and everyone
said that, So we were just kind of like, it's
up to anybody's it's anyone's game at this point. So no,

(32:52):
I don't think I really except for Janee. I think
because they had so many things in common, like the
bas basketball, the dirt, like the number down to like
I was like, this is like a match made of
heaven in heaven, and this is the first time that
I was like, oh wait, like I need to be
more romantic because if I don't have more things in
common with them, Like, how are we gonna.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Make this work if they have so many things in common?

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Yeah, that's so interesting. So night one ends. How are
we feeling going into the week? You know, you've survived
the first night of the show. Where's your hat at?

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Yes? I was just so excited to move into the mansion.

Speaker 5 (33:30):
I mean, as you know you're in the hotel room
by yourself, like scratching the walls because you're not talking
to anybody, and you're like, I just can't especially I'm
an extrovert, so I just couldn't wait to talk to people.
I wasn't actually scratching the walls. That was just a joke,
but I'm just making sure there.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Oh my god, we're like, I gotta get this girl
out of the room.

Speaker 6 (33:51):
Okay, Oh my gosh, I'm snorting now, Okay, so okay, professional, Yes,
I was just so excited to be in the mansion
and just see what the dynamic would be with the girls.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
It was definitely really sad to see, like girls that
I got really close with nine one leave and that's
gonna be a very recurrent theme with me in the season.
You'll see how sensitive and emotional, well I am. I'm
not emotional with my own feelings, but it gets to
my friends and how they're feeling. Yeah, so you'll see
a lot of tears every roast ceremony.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
I'm like, what's your sign.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
I'm a Pisces. Does that make sense?

Speaker 1 (34:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (34:31):
Yeah, what are you?

Speaker 2 (34:32):
I'm a Scorpio November October.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Okay, okay, yeah, I'm not super.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
It takes a minute honestent with.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Like what's your your son's sign then, or your your moon?
What's your moon?

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Scorpio scorpio?

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Oh waits so interesting?

Speaker 4 (34:52):
A wait, I'm no, no, no, I'm a scorpio sun
a cancer moon and then a scorp be arising cancer moon.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
Okay. I'm like, I don't know what that means.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
And I'm like, okay, yeah, I don't really know what
it means either, but.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
It's kind of fun to like know, Yeah, I'm a Pisces.
Apparently they're very emotional.

Speaker 5 (35:13):
So but then I'm right on the cusp of being
an aries, which makes a little bit more sense because
I'm very like spontaneous and like.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
Let's go, so it makes sense. Yeah, oh okay, so
you okay? Are you very crazy?

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Yeah? We're all scratching.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
How many tattoos do you have?

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I can't even count them?

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Oh my wait, I like lost did these were covered
up night one? Because I didn't see these.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
So funny because one of my best friends is also
a pediatric speech pathologist and she has tattoos like yours,
like little ones spread out.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Oh really, yeah, I would love to meet her.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
I would love to meet her because I feel like
it's not a common thing for speech therapists to have
tatto And honestly, even before going into this career, I
was so insecure about my tattoos.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
I was like no, like right me, because I was like,
no one has them.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
Like, I don't know how like people are going to
react or treat me differently because I have tattoos. So
I tend to work with long sleeves at school just
to like be respectful.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
And same thing with the show.

Speaker 5 (36:18):
I wanted to come off like first impression, like very modest,
and I didn't want to be judged based you know.
I didn't want to be like the girl with the
tattoos because I'd been, you.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Know, profile that way before.

Speaker 5 (36:31):
And then after talking to the girls in the house,
we were like no, Alex, like you look cool.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
I was like, really okay, because I.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
That your new Brunswick is showing.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
Girl, your Runswick's showing.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
But the first night I was like I told the girls,
I was like, I had a phase where I wanted
to be Miley Cyrus, so I got all my tattoos
and then I realized I am not Miley Cyrus, but
I'm still.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
Going to rock them god.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
So uh yeah.

Speaker 5 (36:53):
So you'll see on my first one on one date
that I rocked the tattoos.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
I was like, I'm just gonna.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
Yeah, do you have a favorite or like one that
has a really special meaning?

Speaker 3 (37:04):
I really really like. So this is funny.

Speaker 5 (37:08):
Being in New Brunswick, there's not a lot of tattoo
parlors and every time I would ask for fine line
and they would give me, which I love them, but
they would give me these big ass tattoos and they'd
say this was fine line, and I was like, not
really sure that's fine line. So I went to Bali
last year and I got this like I'm really terrified
of snakes, and I was like, I kind of want

(37:29):
a sneak tattoo. And I asked for fine line, which
is this is fine line, this is not and this
is also this is me being too nice.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
I asked for start. I'm going all over the place.
This is just.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
It's a podcast. We need you to talk, so we
need you to talk.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
So this bee I asked.

Speaker 5 (37:45):
I wanted it originally this big, and he put it
on my skin and I was too too scared to
say no, so I was like, yeah, that's perfect.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
No it's not a manicure where you don't polish color.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
It's there for the rest of my life, too nice.
I was like, yeah, no, this is perfect, this is
exactly what I wanted this big so I would say
the snake would be my favorite one, just because it's
very feminine, very like small line, like I wanted all
my tattoos to be.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
But it's okay, fact that you're afraid of snakes. You
wanted to get something that you're afraid of.

Speaker 5 (38:15):
I yes, so well, the meaning came after I really
like the cool, like the look of the snake tattoo,
and then I was like, what am I most terrified
of snakes?

Speaker 3 (38:24):
I was like, let's put it a little, give a
little meaning.

Speaker 5 (38:27):
I was something, got's say that I'm getting the tattoo
because I'm facing my.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
Fears every day when I wake up.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
I'm like, you do.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Yeah, it's like exposure exposure therapy.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Literally, that's so funny.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
Okay, honestly, I think that's it. You told us you
already teased the season surprising.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
That was your Yeah, is there anything else you can
tease for us before we get into a little game.

Speaker 5 (38:53):
I think surprising is the perfect word and just yeah,
if you're you're seeing a facade of me right now.
