It’s summer! And here on Next Question with Katie Couric, Katie’s celebrating the shortest season with a fun series on books! But not just any books — memoirs!. Katie just finished writing her own memoir (which comes out this October — stay tuned!), so she wanted to spend time with other people who have shared their stories and put themselves on the page. She has a huge range of guests from actors Sharon Stone and Justin Baldoni to business leaders and entrepreneurs like former Xerox CEO Ursula Burns, Sarah Jakes and Amanda Kloots, and the memoir boss herself, Mary Karr. There’s so much to discuss, too: the pain of writing, the revelations of looking back on your life, and the triumphs of TMI. Episodes release every Thursday through the summer.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
This summer. On next Question with Me, Katie Couric, I'm
celebrating the shortest season with the fun Summer series on books,
and not just any books. I just love that single
voice kind of crying out in the wilderness of life
experience memoirs. I just finished writing my own memoir, which

(00:22):
comes out this October, so I wanted to spend some
time with other people who have shared their stories and
put themselves on the page. And I have such an
interesting range of guests, people you might know, like Sharon Stone.
I think the whole world is probably aware of how
much I didn't have boundaries or admire like former Xerox

(00:43):
CEO or Sula Burns. I think that this is the
dream of America embodied in my mother. She did it
or have followed from Afar like Amanda Klutz. I didn't
hug him, I didn't kiss him. I dropped him off
at the corner of Cedar SINAI. I don't even know
if he said goodbye to Elvis. I mean, we really
thought i'd pick him up in a couple of hours.

(01:05):
And there's so much to talk about the pain of writing.
It's not like making a movie or you know, making
a show, This is your life, this is you. I'm
not a writer, I don't pretend to even be one,
and when this thing started, I could not believe that
I had committed to do this. There are sometimes I
couldn't even see the keyboard or what I was typing

(01:26):
because I was crying so hard the personal revelations. It
wasn't so strange to bring your kids to a commune
like camp in the middle of Canada. I was tired
of hurting people, and I was tired of hurting myself
and the triumphs I have for five seconds the control
of the narrative about me. Whether you love memoirs, are

(01:50):
looking for some good reads for your much deserved vacation,
or just want to escape without leaving your home, We've
got it all for you right here on Next Question
