About Mr. Jim:

Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family’s bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello, friends, and welcome to bedtime stories with mister Jim. Oh.
I was just getting ready for bed, are you as well?
Oh good, I hope you brushed your teeth and found
all of your comfy things like pillows and blankets and stuffies.

(00:27):
Oh yes, oh good. Well, as long as you have
all those things ready, then it's time for our story.
But first we must close our eyes so that we
can travel to an imaginary world. Once upon a time,

(00:56):
in a small village there lived a girl named Emily.
Emily loved to play outside and explore the beautiful forest
that surrounded her village. However, that night, she would often
feel scared of the dark. They have trouble falling asleep.

(01:22):
One night, as she lay in bed, feeling worried and alone,
a kind and wise old owl appeared at her window.
The owl said, Emily, I can see that you are

(01:42):
afraid of many things, but darkness is not something to
be feared, but rather something to be explored and understood.
Emily was curious and asked the owl, can you teach

(02:04):
me how to not be afraid of the dark. The
owl smiled and said oooo, I can teach you, but
first you must promise to keep an open heart. Emily

(02:24):
eagerly promised, and the owl began to teach her about
the magic of the night. He taught her that the
stars were not just dots in the sky, but rather
each one was its own sun, far far away, shining

(02:46):
brightly in the darkness. He showed her how the moon
changes its shape throughout the month, and how it reflects
the light of the sun. Then taught her about all
the nocturnal animals and how they use darkness to their advantage,

(03:10):
like how the fireflies use their bioluminescence to communicate. Have
you ever seen a firefly at night? Wow? They're so beautiful.
But hmm, if it was always daytime, we wouldn't ever

(03:32):
see a firefly be able to shine its pretty light.
As Emily learned more about the night, she began to
see it in a new light. The darkness was no
longer something she was afraid of, but something to marvel at.

(03:52):
She realized that the night was just as alive and
beautiful as the daytime. From that night on, Emily it
was no longer afraid of the darkness. When she lay
in bed, she would close her eyes and imagine herself
outside looking up at the stars and the shining moon,

(04:17):
listening to the night creatures, and there goes a firefly.
The more she imagined, the more she felt her fears
fade away, and the more quickly she fell asleep. As

(04:38):
the night passed by, Emily fell into a peaceful sleep
and woke up the next day with a smile on
her face and ready to explore the world anew. From
then on she went on many adventures, exploring the forest

(05:00):
and even the night sky with her new found love
of the night and its beauty. So, my friends, when
you lay in your bed and find yourself feeling scared
of the darkness, remember the story of Little Emily. Try

(05:22):
to find the beauty of the night. Close your eyes
and imagine yourself outside looking up at the wow look
at all those millions of stars and the moon, and
maybe you'll even see a firefly. My time is not

(05:45):
something to be afraid of, but something beautiful to be explored. Well,
my friends, as I fall to sleep, and you as well, hmmm,
I wonder what kind of pictures the stars will make tonight,

(06:09):
where I wonder what shape the moon will be. May
you have wonderful and sweet dreams tonight. Good night,
