About Mr. Jim:

Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family’s bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello friends, and welcome to bedtime Stories with mister jim O.
I was just getting ready for bed, are you as well?
Oh good? I hope you brushed your teeth and found
all of your comfy things like pillows and blankets and stuffies.

(00:27):
Oh yes, oh good. Well, as long as you have
all those things ready, then it's time for our story.
But first we must close our eyes so that we
can travel to an imaginary world. Okay, Ray, Time to

(00:56):
roll out the sleeping bags. Ray's family was at their
usual campsite out by the lake. They always went camping
here during the summer when the air was warm all
night long, which was good because Ray's family didn't camp intents.

(01:18):
They loved sleeping under the stars. They would lie a
big blanket down on the ground place their sleeping bags
on top. The beach was the best spot because there
weren't any trees to block their view of the sky.

(01:38):
All done, Dad Ray said once everyone's sleeping bag was
rolled out over the blanket on the soft sand. Her
favorite thing about rolling out the sleeping bags was getting
to place them anywhere she wanted. This time, she put

(02:00):
everyone in a star formation, with their feet all meeting
in the middle. Ray smiled at her handiwork and then
ran to help her brother and sister collect sticks to
roast marshmallows on. After Ray Jet and Anne collected three

(02:21):
of the biggest sticks they could find, their dad whittled
the tips down to make the perfect roasting sticks. Ray
poked a triple stack of marshmallows on her stick, then
roasted them until they were ooey, gooey, golden brown mmm.

(02:45):
The three siblings stayed up, laughing and lunching marshmallows until
their mom called to them and said, okay, you three,
time to wiggle into those sleeping bags. Ray got in
and pulled their sleeping bag up to her shoulders, pretending

(03:05):
to be a little caterpillar snuggled up inside of her cocoon.
She imagined waking up to the sunshine as a beautiful butterfly.
Ray tried to fall asleep, but she wasn't tired at all,
not one bit. She wondered if anyone else was having

(03:28):
trouble falling asleep. Ray wiggled her left foot towards her
brother Jets across the star, then her right towards her
sister Anne's at her side. They wiggled their feet right back.
Their giggles were only quieted by their dad's voice. All right,

(03:49):
you wiggly giggle monsters, quiet down now. So Ray kept
her feet to herself and watched the night sky. She
listened to the gentle ways from the beach and stared
at the inky black sky above and all the stars
scattered throughout it. The stars twinkled down at her, and

(04:12):
Ray imagined they were excited to see her once again.
Hello stars. They looked so close she felt like she
could touch them if she tried, so she did. Ray
reached both hands up above her as she lay down

(04:34):
on the ground in her sleeping bag. She wiggled her
fingers at the stars and they seemed to wiggle back.
Ray giggled and whispered, stars, are you copying me? And
she twisted her hands to the left and right. The

(04:57):
stars rocked back and mirroring her movements. Ray pulled her
fingertips through the stars like she would run her fingertips
through the lake, slowly back and forth. Her movement sent
a ripple through the darkness in space. The stars swirled

(05:21):
behind her hands as they went I wonder, Ray began
to ask. She pinched a star and pulled it towards
her pop the star came out small and glowing. She

(05:42):
was amazed and started to pluck more stars from the sky,
cupping them in her hand. When she could hold no
more stars, she shook them and watched them twinkle and
shine through her fingers, Still speaking softly so she didn't

(06:02):
wake anyone, Ray counted three, two, one, Then she tossed
the stars up in front of her. They soared around
in all directions, shooting stars and falling stars, moving across
the sky and down towards the sand, before returning to

(06:27):
nestle back into the inky, black night sky. As the
stars settled down, Ray yawn Her eyelids were growing heavy,
and she gave herself a nice stretch, and as she did,

(06:50):
her hand accidentally grazed a star, making a distinctive musical tink.
Ray used her fingers to flick another star, and sure
enough she heard another note. Ray began touching the stars
in rhythm, singing softly along with the notes. Twin, Twinkle,

(07:17):
little Star. She yawned again and gave a sleepy smile.
Her eyelids had become much too heavy to keep them
open at all. Ray lowered her arms and curled them
up in her sleeping bag under the musical, magical stars

(07:40):
and fell asleep. Well, my friends, it is time to
fall asleep. And I wonder if those stars are real.
I wonder if we touched the stars, they couldn't make
a sound, and you couldn't make a song from touching

(08:01):
each of them. As we sleep under our twinkly stars,
and you have very sweet dreams. Good night friends,
