Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hi, and welcome to behind the Mic the Iheard intern Life,
where you'll get the inside look at the unique, collaborative
and fulfilling experience of being part of the team at iHeart.
I'm Renee and I've had the pleasure of leading the
summer internship program. This season, we're debuting our twenty twenty
four intern class to the whole professional world. Next up
is Kate, our podcast development intern.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I'll let Kate take it away.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
My name is Caitlin. I go to the University of
Texas at Austin and I'm currently studying radio, television and film.
So working at iHeart this summer was right up my
alley my whole life. I've had such a relationship with storytelling.
I've always wanted to be a storyteller in some capacities,
so I knew I really wanted to enter the media industry,
(00:56):
whether that be film or print media and now podcasting.
It has really cropped up as being the top of
my list, especially after this internship. I've always loved iHeart.
I feel like my generation is just the ones that
got to grow up with iHeart. Listening to Z one
hundred in the car with my sisters always dreaming me
about going to the iHeart Festival, and then it was
(01:17):
kind of serendipitous this past spring in La the week
I got to interview for iHeart, I also got to
go to the Radio Music Awards, So I mean maybe
that was a sentiment that I was going to get
to work here for the summer, but it was so
much fun. One of the things that surprised me most
about this internship is that what I was interviewed about
really translated into the company. One of the questions they
(01:39):
asked me is how do you what's your relationship with chaos?
And I was really surprised by that question until I
came to the office and just it's so cool to see.
It's like a beehive. Everyone's always moving, there's so many
ideas flying around. It's so full of life. Everyone I've
gotten to meet has been so welcoming. Everyone is so
willing to connect with you and help you on this
(02:00):
rejectory to her due career. It's so helpful to have
people that are in your corner heart. Everyone's willing to
talk about how they got here, everyone's willing to answer
a question. And I've just been able to meet so
many amazing people that have showed me how creative the
development side of podcasting can be. Because when I talked
about storytelling, I always saw myself maybe having to be
(02:21):
on set running coffees in order to get up to
the point where I get to tell a story. And
here I was this summer getting to not only pitch ideas,
but help other people develop their stories for podcasts, and
it just really fell in love with audio storytelling. I
actually got to pitch an idea for Iheart's Very Special episodes.
(02:42):
It was a story of one of my friends that
you told me while we were broad about her grandma.
This crazy story that takes place in Kentucky. Maybe we'll
see it coming out soon. But they really liked it
and they're help allowing me to help while I was
in my internship with Developing, that which was such a
great addition to being on the development team was actually
getting this hands on experience. This internship gave me an
(03:05):
opportunity to explore so much of New York. I just
made it a mission. Every day I had free to
explore somewhere New I did some random things. I got
to do the Musical Chairs game in Bryant Park. It
was nine hundred people competing at musical chairs. I think
I got out after like twelve people in my thirty
(03:26):
round ring, but such a unique, only in New York experience.
Some other highlights, I got to go to the met Cloisters,
which is super cool. Going to Coney Island for the
Mermaid Festival was super fun. I feel like this internship
just really helped me seek out so many different ways
to experience New York this summer, which is really amazing.
On my last day, I have to say, I'm feeling
(03:48):
really confident to go into this next step of my life.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Do you too want to love what you do?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
