Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, and welcome to behind the mic the iHeart internt life,
where you'll get the inside look at the unique, collaborative
and fulfilling experience of being part of the team at iHeart.
I'm Renee, and I've had the pleasure of leading the
summer internship program. This season. We're de viewing our twenty
twenty four intern class of a whole professional world. Next
up is Max, our finance intern. I'll let Max take
it away.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
My name is Max. I am a rising senior at
Vanderbilt University. I'm a human and organizational development major, and
I'm currently on the corporate finance team doing financial planning
and analysis. I've always been interested in the financial world.
I've looked at jobs on Wall Street before. I've done
some internships for some banks in the past, but I
(00:52):
decided that for this summer I wanted to work kind
of on the corporate side, get a real deep dive
into a company and see really what goes into the
day to day functions as opposed to kind of this
umbrella outside view and the highlights that all these banks
really get from day to day. I applied to iHeart
because I obviously knew it at a very young age.
(01:13):
Growing up, I listened to Z one hundred in the car,
been to jingle Ball, and I'm just a big fan
of music in general. I've recently started learning how to
play the guitar and started trying to produce music and
everything just on the side. I'm still definitely in the
beginning stages. But just the combination of iHeart obviously being
again very well known, and my love for music made
(01:36):
it a place that was super appealing for me. Something
that was surprising when I was interviewing was honestly like
the lack of technical questions. They clearly didn't care that
much if I was the biggest excel NERD or knew
all my counting technicals. They just wanted to know, you
(01:56):
know a lot more about my behavioral attitude, my curiosity,
and my excitement to work, and my passion to work
in the specific field, let alone kind of these numbers based,
formula based questions that I think a lot of other
companies may prioritize too much. I hurt values just talent
(02:17):
in general. You don't need to necessarily be the biggest
expert in your field. But I think that there's definitely
a lot of values that Ihart prioritizes that a lot
of other companies don't when it comes to just being
able to be curious, and they're open to your curiosities.
If you want to help in other areas, they're very
(02:38):
welcoming to that, and they'll give you the opportunities to
work in some sort of industry that might not be
your specific role. So that was something that personally I
felt was unique and I think very valuable that I
Heart does. Some advice that I would give is get
on the phone, talk to anyone. I mean, in any internship.
(03:01):
In general, I think the most important thing is to
be shameless and not have an ego. Don't be embarrassed.
Anyone who's willing to talk to you is someone who's
an asset. Always be nice. Anyone you speak to can
help you out down the line. And especially at iHeart,
everyone that I've spoken to has been just so open
and really encouraging. Wants you to work there, wants you
(03:22):
to learn, wants you to know everything, whether you're just
listening in on a phone call to see how people
communicate and you may not even have any idea what
they're talking about, but just seeing the structure of the
company show your passion in the company and show why
you want to be there. On my last day, it's
(03:42):
definitely kind of just this little, bittersweet moment. I've learned
a lot. I've gotten to do some really cool things,
even outside of my corporate finance role, that I never
thought i'd be able to, which has been really really
valuable for me, and I think I've gained a lot
of soft skills here. I've really enjoyed my time. I'm
obviously a little excited to go back to school and
(04:05):
everything for my last year, but the opportunity I've had
here has been really inviable. I'm really grateful for it.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
It was meaningful to hear more about Max's experience and
that he observed the importance that I hurt places. I'm
cultivating an environment where all employees of all backgrounds can
thrive and feel included. Do you too want to love
what you do? Don't forget to follow iHeartMedia and iHeartRadio
on LinkedIn and all their social platforms to stay up
