Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, and welcome to behind the mic the iHeart intern Life,
where you'll get the inside look at the unique, collaborative
and fulfilling experience of being part of the team at iHeart.
I'm Renee, and I've had the pleasure of leading the
summer internship program. This season, we're debuting our twenty twenty
four intern class to the whole professional world. Next up
is Nate, our communications intern. I'll let Nate take it away.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
My name is Nate from an English major at Binghamton University,
and I'm a communications intern here at iHeart. Before I
came to this internship, what I wanted to do was
I wanted to either be a writer or an editor.
That was my big dream for me. It was just like,
how can I write? How can I sort of be
around writing and all of that. I felt like that

(00:49):
was sort of the more obvious field, and that's sort
of the field that sort of everyone around me was
moving towards. I applied to iHeart because it's just a
great company and like, apart from the ubiquity of it
in terms of like podcasts and radio, it's very widespread.
The people are great. I really just wanted to work
here because it's such a good place. It's kind of

(01:12):
embarrassing that I kind of didn't know what Communications was.
I had to google it before my interview. But now
I learned like not only what it is, but also
sort of that I enjoy it a lot and that
it might be sort of a path that I want
to pursue later because I realized I like that type
of writing too. I like writing up a press really
is just as much as I like writing a short
story or something like that. My first impression, I think

(01:35):
the thing that stuck out to me the most was
sort of all the people and how welcoming they all were,
no matter what level they were, and also sort of
everyone talking about what they did. Everyone was so passionate
about it. You can tell everyone liked this company, everyone
likes what they were doing, everyone liked everyone else. It
seemed like it was just a really great work environment.
I really was incited to sort of come here every
day and be a part of it. Something that I

(01:58):
think was great was my department. They sort of asked
me what was interested in, so I mentioned I like horror,
and they sort of were like, hey, do you want
to help take the point on this pr thing? For
this horror podcast, so I sort of helped with the
press release. I got to see it sort of throughout
the entire process, talked to marketing, I got to write
up a pitch and send it out to reporters, and

(02:19):
it came out a couple of days ago for Variety.
So it's really cool to see it sort of go
forward like that and to be a part of it.
I think something that was really great is the time
I've spent sort of out of the internship with the
other interns, hanging out around like Summer Tuesday for instance.
It's just like a lot of us like hanging out
and sort of bonding. And I think that was a

(02:40):
really great, like social aspect that I didn't necessarily like
think i'd be having here because I didn't really think
i'd we spend as much time with like other interns.
But I'm really glad I am, and I'm really glad
that it built this community and feeling like I sat
honestly because I really liked this. Internships is something that
I like looked forward to coming to every day. It
was something like I was really excited I was doing

(03:03):
things I was really excited to do. I was talking
to people that, like I was really interested in and
doing things I found great. So I really loved that,
I really would love to do it more. And now
I started a new direction to go in because of that.
So it's great.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Nay being an English major and coming in as a
skilled writer on the communications team definitely allowed him to
apply his experience that he's developed, but it was his
open mindedness to how else his skills could transfer to
the team that was so great to witness. Do you
too want to love what you do? Don't forget to
