Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, and welcome to behind the Mic the iHeart Internet Life,
where you'll get the inside look at the unique, collaborative
and fulfilling experience of being part of the team at iHeart.
I'm Renee, and I've had the pleasure of leading the
summer internship program. This season, we're revealing our twenty twenty
four intern class to the whole professional world. Next up
is Rachel our podcast Post Sales Operations in Turn. I'll
(00:24):
let Rachel take it away.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
My name is Rachel. I'm going to be a senior
at the University of Rhode Island. I'm from New Jersey
Originally I'm studying communications and my role here is the
podcast Post Sale Operations in Turn. I've toltally called people
this story. But I used to be like an Avid
Shawn Mendes fan. Like I've seen him a concert a
bunch of times. I actually met him at the Z
(00:50):
one hundred studios once when I was in like middle school,
and so that kind of brought me into like the
music space and wanting to go into media and stuff.
And then I am really into like social media and
digital marketing as well, and I was applying for things
like that. I've kind of always been like around iHeart
and known iHeart in my head, and it kind of
just like came across my desk and I was like,
(01:12):
this is kind of cool. Something surprising about the interview processes.
It was a lot less informal than I thought it
was going to be. Informal. It is kind of the
wrong word, but in some of the interviews I was
doing for other opportunities, I felt that it was more
they were just like asking me questions and I was
answering them, and not so much conversation based, where if
people are just asking me questions and spit firing that
(01:34):
I feel like I don't show the best of myself
with that. And so when it became more conversation based
and the conversation flowed a little bit better, I was
able to like really show my true personality and my
true strengths through that. Being at this internship has kind
of shown me that I do want to be in
the media space, and so I kind of when I
think of media, I think of music or television and
(01:56):
things like that, and then stepping into a podcast role
that's shown me a lot more in the podcast industry
and that it's kind of growing and has changed a
lot over the years and has become a lot more
persinent in the media space. Everyone has been really personable,
which is really nice. I think that was what I
was a little bit nervous about coming into this, was
like not getting along with everyone. But I quickly found
(02:17):
out that like a lot of the interns, we all
got along really well. We all go to happy Hour
and stuff in between, summer Tuesdays and things like that,
and I think that made us all feel very comfortable,
very fast in our positions. And so being able to
have those connections with such a large group of us
and being able to spend time together and get to
know each other has been really important in like all
of our experiences throughout the past eight weeks. An advice
(02:43):
I would give to someone applying for an internship here
in general, I think is just networking. Even before I
started interviewing for this, like I was reaching out to
people on LinkedIn or like people I knew in other
places and just asking them if they knew of opportunities,
or just sending my resume out as much as possible
and just kind of seeing where that would land me.
And I think getting those connections, even if you were
(03:04):
to get an opportunity or beyond that, just talking to
people and setting them your resume and keeping yourself on
their radar will make you out the forefront. Four positions
that you want. My very last day as an I
Heart intern, I'm feeling excited and accomplished, and I'm just
really happy to have had this opportunity and to be
(03:24):
in this space and to be able to work at
a company like this in college and while I'm still
getting my degree and learning all of this, and that
has been like really fun, and it's just great to
know that I can get myself to this position even
beyond this point.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Something that was really cool about Rachel's internship experience with
us was getting to learn that she actually grew up
with iHeart in different ways, and then getting to experience
that energy as an intern with a company was super
cool and unique. Do you too want to love what
you do? Don't forget to follow I Heard Media and
