Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to behind the mic the iHeart intern Life, where
you'll get the inside look at the unique, collaborative and
fulfilling experience of being part of the team at iHeart.
My name is Renee and I have the pleasure of
leading the internship program for iHeartMedia. This season, we're debuting
our twenty twenty four intern class to the professional world.

(00:26):
We hired over thirty in turns from all over the
country to come get the iHeart experience for eight weeks
this summer. Their roles are presented all the different branches
of this company, from radio and podcasts, to advertising, product development,
and so much more. My colleagues and I have been
blown away by how much they achieved in such a
short time that we wanted to broadcast them and their achievements.

(00:46):
We're going to share the stories of twelve of our
interns so you can hear firsthand what their experience was like.
First up is Tyler, our podcast production intern. I'll let
Tyler take it away, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
So my name is Tyler. I'm from Connecticut and I'm
going into my senior year at Penn State. I'm majoring
in film production and recently completed a minor in Spanish,
and my internship role here at iHeart is I'm the
podcast production intern. Good to get on a podcast. I
didn't know that I would end up doing this. I
wanted to intern at iHeart because they do a little

(01:23):
bit of everything as a media company. Podcasting was something
that I don't really have experience with, but it's a
medium that first of all, it's evolving and blowing up
over the past few years and still is, and it's
also just something that is another great skill to learn.
So that kind of caught my eye as something that

(01:43):
I knew was kind of up my alley, but not
something I have direct experience with. I knew my skills
that I have from film, music, whatever would tie over
to podcasting. One thing that it was a bit unexpected
was honestly the power of radio. Obviously, being you know,
on the younger side, I didn't really know how much

(02:04):
power radio still has, and it was crazy to kind
of hear what it can still do and how much
people it still reaches and how radio is really you know,
the heart and soul of iHeart and podcasting, streaming, everything
kind of works around that. Another thing that helped me
envision my career was just learning about power of audio

(02:26):
in general and how much audio can tell a story.
So coming from film, the visual aspect is really the
star of the show, and the audio obviously it's important,
but it more compliments what you're seeing on the screen.
So when we're in your company that focuses solely on audio,
it's really interesting and how much more nuanced and detailed
you can get with really diving into to really communicating

(02:49):
a full story with just audio. My expectations for this
internship were definitely shattered by what actually happened. I expected
to kind of just be working on just my role
and my teams like duties, so whether that's going in
editing podcasts or cutting up social clips for podcasts. But

(03:12):
what it ended up being, and this is, you know,
thanks to Renee and Cassie are supervisors, how much involved
we were with iHeart as a full company. So we
would have speaker series every week with people from all
across the company, which was great to learn from just
different sides that you wouldn't normally be working with every day.

(03:32):
Another thing is the immersion days where we would come
up for new ideas for iHeart, whether that's reworking the
music festival, helping out with the app. Just things that
I didn't really expect to be doing that aren't attached
to my role, but was just so great to get
the really all encompassing internship experience. I think the thing

(03:55):
I'm most proud to have accomplished was I worked on
in and completed a full sort of professional grade audio ad.
I was working really closely with Carl Keetele. He's a
guy on my team. We had this idea that as
part of my training for Adobe Audition, we would come
up with an audio ad together and work on it

(04:16):
start to finish, which is way more fun than the
training that I envisioned. It's not really you know, going
in through the software doing all this boring stuff. It
was really working hands on on a project that we
both had interest in. So he is big into video games,
and he likes this golf video game PGA, and he
knows that I also have interest in golf, so we

(04:39):
decided to make like a mock ad for a golf
video game that was super fun and going into really
the weeds of editing all these certain effects. I mean,
it was crazy just to watch Carl and what he
can do and being able to contribute to that. It's
really cool. One thing I'm I always gonna remember about

(05:01):
the Summer or this is iHeart specifically, it was the
Summer Tuesdays. It's an event every Tuesday where you have
a happy hour and then it's followed by either a
performance or some sort of live talk show where you
either have an artist or journalist, whatever it may be.
I had no idea that that was a thing coming in,

(05:21):
and it was just a great way to sort of
decompress after a day of work and socialize with people
that or other interns for me that maybe I don't
sit with. My favorite Summer Tuesday had to be Charlottmagne
and The God. It was just cool to, you know,
see him and learn about his book. I didn't even
know he had a book, so that was that was
my favorite one. But I do want to say Isabelle

(05:44):
Le Rosa was really good too, and Pink Sweats Well,
thinking about it, they were all good. On my last
day as an iHeartMedia intern, I feel very sad because
it really flew by. I mean, it's been so much
fun working on different things, meeting all these people. Tonight

(06:06):
I have an event with my team that's gonna be great. Yeah,
I'm very sad to be leaving.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Tyler is a really great example of how important it
is to think creatively about how do you combine all
of your interests that you can discover your dream career.
