Speaker 1 (00:02):
Bi in News this hour, I'm Andrea Coleman coming up.
A black congresswoman is calling out the Trump administration on
its white South African refugee program. South Africa's president speaks
publicly for the first time about his meeting with President
Trump and is it time to move past the lingering
influence of the Obama administration? But first, here's bi in
News now.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
South African President Rama Posa is brushing off a tense
moment from his visit to the White House earlier this month.
During the visit, President Trump played a video that he
claimed supported claims of genocide against white South Africans.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
The being executed and they happened to be white, and
most of them happened to be farmers. And that's a
tough situation.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I don't know how you explained that. How do you explain.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
That, Rama Posa that the video Trump showed amused him
and noted most crime victims in South Africa are black,
not white. Court is ajourned for the day. In Shawn
didty COM's sex trafficking trial, Capricorn Clark Ditty's former assistant
testified he chased rapper Kid Cutty in a car after
breaking to his home. Did he face his life in
prison if convicted? And the Texas House is approving Senate
(01:05):
Bill twelve to ban DEI initiatives in public school hiring
and training. The bill strengthens parental consent for sex ed
and family planning, mirroring the twenty twenty three DEI ban
in Texas universities. I'm Amber Payton with bi in News.
Now back to you, Andrea.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Thanks.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Amber. Is a Trump administration's offer to refugee status to
some white South Africans a blatant show of white supremacy.
According to Florida Congresswoman Fredrika Wilson, it is Wilson who
is blacks. As a US president, extending such protections to
white Africaners while halting the privilege for other groups who
are actually being subjected to dangerous conditions also is an
(01:42):
insult to African Americans. Wilson is making the comments following
last week's meeting with Trump and South African President Zerril Ramaposa,
which the media has referred to as an ambush. While
mister Ramaposa is now commenting publicly for the first time
since the sit down with the US President, according to
the Hill, he says he was amused by Trump's claims.
(02:02):
Ramaposa made the statement while delivering a keynote address at
a symposium in Cape Town. He said he was getting
into a group with Trump when the US President had
the lights dimmed and played a video. He said, he
jokingly thought, what's happening? Trump used that now debunked video
to foster claims that white farmers in South Africa allegedly
are being mistreated.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
They're being executed, and they happened to be white, and
most of them happened to be farmers. And that's a
tough situation.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
I don't know how you explained that. How do you
explain that?
Speaker 1 (02:34):
To his credit, Ramaposa remained calm and respect both throughout
the meeting and in his remarks, like.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
To thank you for allowing your people to start discussions
with us at the trade level. I mean, we are
essentially here to reset the relationship between the United States
and South Africa, we long long standing popcast.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
We have also learned that during life xt week's visit,
South Africa extended a deal to buy natural gas from
the US. The ten year deal is worth a report
at nine to twelve billion dollars. As part of that deal,
South Africa will not have to pay duty or exports
on forty thousand vehicles shipped to the US annually. You've
likely heard the saying that all good things must come
(03:18):
to an end when it comes to the influence the
Obama administration has had on the Democratic Party. Reportedly, the
inn could be in sight. According to NBC News, The
power and sway strategists and alumni from the Obama era
have had over the Democratic Party was discussed at a
news event for Democratic National Committee members last month. Some
DNC officials blamed the former president for not investing in
(03:40):
state parties enough, resulting in a lack of local organizing,
and many of the Obama era voters who were younger
and of color are also moving away from the party,
leaning more toward President Trump. Developing new and effective strategies
as critical for the DNC as it struggles to regain
control of any branch of the federal government, which are
currently all under Republican control. And the shon Dinny Combs
