Speaker 1 (00:02):
Bin News this hour, Doug Davis coming up. The NAACP
has chosen not to invite President Trump to its annual convention. Also,
the prosecution team in the Shandery Comb sex crimes trial
says they could wrap up their case by tomorrow. And
for the five white men seen in that viral video
beating a black man at an Indiana bar appeared in
court today. But first here's bin News.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Now, an appeals court will decide how long the California
National Guard stays in Los Angeles.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
It was very predictable what was going to happen here,
and it was completely unnecessary. This was a solution in
search of a problem, and the problem was not happening.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
On Thursday, Governor Newsom and black Los Angeles Mayor Karen
Bass argued Trump's deployment during immigration protests was illegal and
fueled the unrest, violating the Tenth Amendment. Sterling Williams, a
New Orleans Parish jail employee, is facing ten counts of
principle too simple escape and one count of malfeasance in
office after allegedly helping ten black inmates escape. An affidavit
claims he turned off the water to their cell. His

(01:00):
attorney says he was threatened with a stabbing by inmate
Antoine Massey, who's still at large, and a third Republican
may enter the race for Senator John Cornyon seat. Rep.
Wesley Hunt, a pro Trump black veteran from Houston, is
considering a run, with Cornyon trailing indicted Attorney General Ken Paxton,

contender who could appeal to the growing number of black Republicans.

(01:21):
I'm Amber Payton with bi in News. Now back to you, Doug.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Thanks Zamber. The NAACP, for the first time ever, has
decided not to invite a sitting president to its annual
convention this year held in Charlotte, North Carolina, from July
twelfth through July sixteenth. President n CEO Derek Johnson made
the announcement for the first time in one hundred and
sixteen years, we will not be inviting to President of
the United States. There is a conflict well the things

(01:45):
that he has done, that he's doing, and things that
are being planned with our job. Johnson ads at President
Trump's repeated attacks on democracy and civil rights as a
reason for the break in tradition. He states that quote.
We welcome those who believe even democracy and the Constitution,
but this administration does not respect the rule of law.
The NAACP has historically invited presidents from both parties, including

(02:09):
Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. However, Trump's
politics and rhetoric have led the organization to take a
firm stance. At this year's convention, the theme the faiers
Urgency Now will focus on mobilizing communities to protect voting rights,
fight racial injustice, and push back against measures that threaten
our civil rights. And now on to the high profile

(02:29):
Sean Detacombe sex crimes trial, where the hip hop music
mobile and entrepreneur is fighting for his right for freedom
over sex trafficking and other charges. Today, there was more
drama in the courtroom regarding a juror following the recent
removal of another juror. CNN's lawer Coach details what happened
today in Manhattan.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Now you have a new drama where there were some
sort of a text message that another juror received and
it suggests that are asked a question about whether that
person was the just spoken about juror. It gave the
judge pause I figure got that person been talking to
other people outside of the qorum and of course in
violation judge's order. Now that was supposed to be a
private conversation. It appears between council and the court, which

(03:10):
are often the case you're talking about jurors because of
pensitivity issues. They want anonymity in this incense. And so
the judges furious that they had that information out through
an article of some kind. And he is trying to
figure out and ascertain where that leak came from and
what might be done about it.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
The prosecution team may wrap up its case by tomorrow,
and the trial could end as early as next week.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges,
and could spend the rest of his life in prison
if convicted. And finally, the four white men accused of
beating a black man at Pike's Pub just outside of
Fort Wayne, Indiana, last month, made their initial court appearance today.
Many of us recall seeing that viral video showing the

(03:48):
white men pummel that brother while white patrons cheered on
the alleged suspects. The men were charged with battery resulting
in serious bodily injury and criminal recklessness. The four were
also given no contact orders with beating victim James Simmons.
The fourth suspects or allegedly members of the Outlaws motorcycle gang.
A fifth suspect has not had his first hearing. Stay
