an illness last month. But first, here's bin News now.

R Kelly was hospitalized last week after a reported medication
overdose and collapse. He spent two days under observation. His
lawyers are pushing for home confinement, but prosecutors called the
request theatrical, trying.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
To kill mister Kelly as a means of covering up
the fact that the Bureau of Prisons itself has been
engaged in crimes against Robert Kelly throughout the course of
the investigation of his cases.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
His attorney even questioned if prison officials are trying to
kill him. Black Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown is opposing
a Department of Energy plan to roll back civil rights protections.
He says the proposed changes would weaken safeguards against race, sex,
and disability discrimination, and federally funded programs, and a man

on surveillance heading toward the house. He's charged with stalking
and trespassing, with more charges possible. I'm Amber Payton with
bi In News. Now back to you, doug Hey.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Thanks Amber. Earlier today, President Trump was fielding questions from
reporters outside the White House when he was asked if
the US plans to strike Iran. His response typical for
the outspoken leader.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
You don't seriously think I'm going to answer that question.
Will you strike the Iranian nuclear component? And what time exactly? Sir,
sir would you strike it? Would you please inform her
so we can be there and watch. I mean, you
don't know that I'm going to even do it. You
don't know. I may do it, I may not do it.
I mean, nobody knows what I'm going to do.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
He wouldn't want to say that Iran is in a
lot of trouble and that time is running out and.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
They want to negotiate and I said, why didn't you
negotiate with maybe for all his death and destruction? Why
didn't you Intigo? I said to the people, why didn't
you negotiate with me two weeks ago? You could have
done fine. You would have had a country. It's very
sad to watch this. I mean, I've never said anything
like it. So you and everyone thought it was going

(02:17):
to be the reverse. I didn't. I didn't think so
and are telling him you got to you gotta do something.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
He added that he's given up after calling for Iran
to unconditionally surrender, his remarks or sparking fear for some
black military families, hoping his words don't lead to war,
as black soldiers are often the first to be deployed.
Both Democrats and Republicans are weighing in on how the
US will manage the conflict between Iran and Israel. Meantime,
in the state where black representation at the top has

(02:43):
long been overdue, Virginia, Democrat Jay Jones has shattered yet
another barrier by winning the Democratic primary for attorney general.
Here's part of his speech he made last night, where
he claimed victory.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
As your next attorney general, I will return the power
back to you, to the peace people of Virginia. But
no one is done trying to stop us right now.
Donald Trump and his cronies will spend so much money
trying to beat us in November by funding his personal
attorney Jason Miarez, And I'm here to tell you we
are ready for that fight.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Let's go with promises to fight corporate greed, protect consumer rights,
and opposing Trump's often the legal policies. Jones now carries
the hopes of Virginia's black community in the November election.
The victory could be a sign that voters are sensitive
about the matters he plans. A champion. The former state
delegate may be on his way to becoming Virginia's first
black Attorney General. And finally, June teenth, known in our

(03:37):
community as the Black Fourth of July, is tomorrow, and
Opal Lee won't be leading Fort Worth's Walk for Freedom
this year. The grandmother of June teenth is resting at
home after being hospitalized last month, but her presence is
sure to be felt. Despite her absence, now, her granddaughter
Dion Simms, will lead the way along the two point
five mile journey that reflects the delay in freedom from

(03:58):
our ancestors in Galveston. Tomorrow's walk begins at nine a m.
Central at Farrington Field. Her daughter says she's doing well
and plans to take part in a number of Juneteenth
events and festivity. Stay informs, stay connected, and subscribe. Follow
