appointment of Republican Marv Johnson as the next president of
the historically black Florida A and M University. Johnson's appointment
by Florida Governor Roan Desantishos met with strong opposition from
FAMU alumni and students, many of them feeling her conservative
views don't align with the history or our mission of
the HBCU. Some critics, including FAMU Border Trustees Chairwoman Kristin Harper,

have also questioned Johnson's educational qualifications.

In an age of merit based hiring decisions, how can
one justify settling for a candidate who does not meet
all of the position criteria.

Jamal Brown said he feels Johnson will work well with

This moment calls for someone who understands the systems that
fund and govern us, because right now, our survival depends
on how we navigate those systems.

The Florida Board of Governors voted unanimously in favor of
Johnson's appointment. She is set to start in the position
August first. Her reparations may be coming for some people
who live in California to bills by Senator Aquilah Weber
Pearson from San Diego are advancing in California aiming to
provide reparations for black people who are descendants of slaves.
Senator Pearson, who is black and also a doctor, shared

her hopes for California's black community when introducing a resolution
on the state Senate floor in February acknowledging Black History Month.

We must celebrate Black History Month in its entirety, honoring

the future. True commemoration means more than just reflection. It
requires a renewed commitment to just It's an equity, the
work of dismantling systemic racism is far from over, and

fair and inclusive California.

One of the reparations bills would establish a process for
verifying genealogical eligibility, allowing access to reparations for those who
can prove their lineage. The other proposes the creation of

group known as Paris Beyonce say they have placed Juneteenth
