An NUSA Sauer. I'm Andrea Coleman coming up the NAACPE
plans to take action to secure environmental justice in a
Tennessee community, and former President Barack Obama talks about the
current political climate in America. But first Year's ben.

News now R. Kelly was hospitalized last week after a
reported medication overdose and collapse. He spent two days under observation.
His lawyers are pushing for home confinement, but prosecutors called
the request theatrical, trying to.

Kill mister Kelly as a means of covering up the
fact that the Bureau of Prisons itself has been engaged
in crimes against Robert Kelly throughout the course of the
investigation of his cases.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
His attorney even questioned if prison officials are trying to
kill him. Black Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown is opposing
a Department of Energy plan to roll back civil rights protections.
He says the proposed changes would weaken safeguards against race, sex,
and disability discrimination, and federally funded programs. And a man
is in after being caught near Black Memphis, Tennessee Mayor

Paul Young's home with a taser, rope and duct tape.
Police say twenty five year old Trenton Abstin was seen
on surveillance heading toward the house. He's charged with stalking
and trespassing, with more charges possible. I'm Amber Payton with

Thanks Amber. This Southern Environmental Law Center in the NAACP
say they intend to sue XAI for violating the Clean
Air Act. The group's claim XAI installed more than thirty
five gas turbines at its Memphis site without securing required
air permits, potentially releasing over two thousand tons of nitrogen
oxides annually. SELC attorney Patrick Anderson says there's no legal

exemption that allows XAI to operate the turbines without permits.
State Representative Justin Pearson, who is black, backed the suit,
calling clean air or human right. The Shelby County Health
Department confirms its reviewing xai's air permit application, but declined
further comment due to depending litigation.

As we mentioned last night, former President Barack Obama was
a feature guest at an event for the Connecticut Forum
in Hartford. While not mentioning names, mister Obama spoke about
the current political climate in America and what he makes
of it.

Democracy is not self executed. It requires people judges and
you know, people in the Justice Department and people throughout
the government who take an oath to uphold the constitution.

It requires them to take those that seriously. And when
that isn't happening, we start drifting into something that is

(02:52):
not consistent with American democracy. It is consistent with autocracies.
It's consistent with Hungary under Orbun. It's consistent with places
that hold elections but do not otherwise observe what we

(03:15):
think of is a fair system in which everybody's voice matters,
and people have a seat at the table, and they're
checks and balances, and nobody's above the law. And we're
not there yet yet completely, but but I think that

(03:36):
we are. We are dangerously close to normalizing behavior like that.
Uh And and we need people both outside of government
and inside of government saying let's let's not let's not
go over that that over that cliff, because because it's

(04:01):
it's hard to recover.
