The Philadelphia city wide workers strike is in its eighth day,
with residents calling on Philly's first black female mayor to
give them what they deserve. Also, the passing of Trump's
Big Beautiful Bill will deeply impact the city of Cleveland,
where forty percent of residents, many who are black, rely
on medicaid. At A former black Dallas Cowboys star is dead.

Black New York City Mayor Eric Adams is urging New
Yorkers to take precautions as a heat advisory and flash
floodwatcher in effect.

And limit time outdoors, saying in air condition space and
head to a cooling center if needed. And if you
must work outside, as we say over and over again,
take frequent breaks.

Residents are asked to conserve energy and limit appliance use
until nighttime. Sean Didty Culm's attorneys and prosecutors now agree

workers are holding on to as a municipal worker strike continues.
In this eighth day. Most city rec centers and pools
are either closed or running on reduced hours. There's also
a delay in health services. A large amount of public
libraries are closed, and trash pickup has stopped. NBC ten
caught up with District President African American Greg Bulwaar about

That is exactly where they were the previous time we met,
where our change is were significant. So we've come down
and then God will and we're meeting down tomorrow and
if we can try to get some hammer home that
works for our members.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Many residents are behind District Council of thirty three's demand,
which includes wage increases better benefits than a stronger health
care and pension plan. Mayor of Parker, who was black,
says the city offered workers fair pay with scaled back
wage increases. Negotiations continue. Meanwhile, President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill
is now law, and black folks in northeast Ohio are
bracing for cuts to Medicaid, and health advocates are worried.

In Cleveland, Ohio and surrounding areas, Medicaid helps cover care
for nearly three million people. African American Francis Mills from
the Cleveland Apartment of Public Health says the changes could
hit black communities especially hard.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Well. For the city of Cleveland, roughly around forty percent
of folks are on Medicaid. When we talk about the
Medicaid population, we are talking often about people who have
difficulty with transportation, difficulty with childcare, difficulty with food and security,
and so there are a number of things that are
going on in addition to the barriers to just getting care.

She says, adding restrictions and reapplication processes will be a
big barrier for people needing care. The new law ads
work requirements for adults on Medicaid. Here's Meals speaking on
the freezing of federal funding cuts to Planned Parenthood.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
Well, there was an emergency injunction, and so it's now
in the courts, and so over the next two weeks
we'll see what happens in terms of permanent funding. But
what it means to lose planned parenthood simply less services
in the community, less primary care, less cancer screening, less
access to birth control for folks. And when people think

about planned parenthood, they think about abortion. There are so
many people who have gotten their healthcare, both men and women,
from planned parenthood.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, nearly eleven point eight
million Americans will lose health insurance, cutting one point one
trillion dollars in spending for the country. And finally, the
Dallas Cowboys is mourning the loss of former star player A.
Pettis Norman, a black man whose impact reached far beyond
the field. Norman served in the Texas Army National Guard
and push for racial equality. He later launched the Dallas
