Speaker 1 (00:02):
Bia Neusisauer. I'm Andrea Polman coming up. National Democratic leaders
look to block the redrawing of the Texas congressional map.
I know the lawsuits filed against New York City Mayor
Eric Adams, and the National Urban League's annual report sounds
a serious alarm about the state of the country's democracy.
The first here's bign news. Now.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
President Trump says the media and some Republicans are wasting
time on what he calls the Epstein hoax. Trump spoke
to reporters in the Oval Office and was asked about
the DOJ investigation into Epstein that even some Republicans have questioned,
It's all been a big hoax. It's perpetrated by the Democrats,
and some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net,

(00:41):
and so they try and do the Democrats work. Trump
added that he was surprised that some Republicans got duped
and followed the Democratic playbook of going after him with
false stories. More Americans say they're anxious about money. A
new survey from Northwestern Mutual found that nearly seventy percent
of respondents were filling anxiety and depression over financial uncertainty.

(01:02):
That's an eight percent increase from twenty twenty three, and

Speaker 1 (01:18):
National Democratic leaders are weighing in on Texas Governor Greg
Abbott's decision to revisit the state's congressional voting map and
an upcoming special legislative session. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries
called Abbot's planned egregious during a press briefing yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Honod Trump, House Republicans here in Washington and Governor Abbot
are conspiring to rig the Texas congressional map as part
of an effort to disenfranchise millions of people in Texas.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
According to The New York Times, Jeffries and other National
Party leaders participated in a call with Texas state Democratic
leaders last night and advised him to consider walking out
of the special session to block the redistricting effort. Meanwhile,
Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett said the intent of the state's
GOP is obvious.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
They decided to attack three of the four seats that
we have in the state.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
They decided to go after a Latina. They are specifically
deciding to splinter the communities of common interest as well
as just blatantly say we are going to dilute minority voices.
The issue arose when the Department of Justice and a
letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott voicing concern about how
some districts in the state's current map were configured. Those

(02:34):
concerns were then followed by President Trump saying he wants
Texas to gain five GOP seats, spurring Governor Abbott to
add redistricting to the agenda of a special legislative session
that was already scheduled for later this month. A spokesperson
for New York Mayor Eric Adams is calling allegations against
the mayor absurd. A former NYPD commissioner assuing the city

(02:55):
claiming the police department is criminal at its core. Former
interim Commissioner Tom don Ln is filing a federal lawsuit
that a llegacy NYPD functioned as a racketeering enterprise to
benefit top officials, with Mayor Eric Adams at the helm.
The suit says the department was run like the mob
to show loyalists and punish whistleblowers, giving undeserved promotions and

(03:16):
denying those who earned advancement. Donlin is seeking damages and
is calling for the FEDS to oversee the department. The
National Urban League says America and civil rights are in
