the night she died, not in her hotel room. The
claims the biggest cap I've ever heard, and a black man,
Twenty two year old Daniel Kressey from New Orleans may

become Louisiana's first person cured of sickle cell disease through
gene therapy. The breakthrough could help him achieve his dream

In suburban DC and African American mother's cry for justice
echoes through a neighborhood in Riverdale, Maryland, her son, twenty
one year old Aqeen Torrey was gunned down outside of
DC hotel as he tried to help a woman during
a heated argument Sunday night. Moments later, he was shot
and killed.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
It was just a maybe a five minute discussion or
argument that happened. And what they don't understand is who
they took from us. He wasn't like I don't. He
wasn't a bad guy at all. If you go on
his LinkedIn, he's a corporate guy. He works for so
many IT companies.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
That's a cousin of Torrey, Alexia Bob Williams speaking to
US Washington Now. His loved ones are calling for accountability.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
We don't even know the girl that he was standing
up for nothing. We don't have anything yet. And it's
crazy because it's literally a couple of minutes from the capitol,
and I mean there's a fire station literally right next
to it. I don't understand how my cousin laid on
the ground and passed away.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
The police are searching for the suspect, and the community
is rallying behind the family's call for justice. Meanwhile, last week,
we reported that Orange County, Florida mayor African American Jerry
Demmings pushed back against pressure from Governor DeSantis and Florida's
ag over signing an addendum to an ICE agreement that
he felt would take resources away from his police department. Well,

Mayor Demings caved into pressure and signed despite resistance.

Yes, I signed the thing because we really had to
put in a tough spot. I can't let our entire
board of County Commissioners and myself be removed from office.
I say that with all sincerity because of the role
the responsibilities that we have here within this community to

take care of our community and look out for our residents.
I did not want to be in a position where
the governor will have the opportunity to insert his minions
in the roles to lead this county.

Last week, you said he would not be bullied into
signing the agreement as the States ag threatened to remove
him from office. The indendum allows county jail officials to
transport immigration detainees to ICE facilities, including the controversial Alligator
Alcatrazed Detention Center. And finally, in a moment that speaks volumes,
Eagles star running back say Kwan Barkley has turned down

a seat at President trump Supports and Fitness Council. Barklayhu
helped lead the team to a big NFL Championship win
