Speaker 1 (00:01):
N News This hour, Doug Davis coming up, a former
Black Army sergeant speaks out about yesterday's shooting at Fort Stewart.
Also coming up, the woman who was knocked out unconscious
and the Cincinnati brawl speaks out calling for justice. And
a new Missouri law is finally addressing the epidemic of
missing Black women and girls. But first, here's bin news now.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Black New York City Mayor Eric Adams is expanding a
student loan relief program citywide.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
We're not going to sit back allow New Yorkers to
drown in debt. We're going to have that life rap
to allow them to move to a productive life that
they deserve.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Originally for city workers, the program helps federal loan borrowers
access repayment and forgiveness options. Officials say it could cut
payments by about three thousand dollars a year, offering personalized
guidance through a financial assistance platform. A lawyer for Sean
Didty Combs says the rapper is planning a comeback, including
a Madison Square Garden concert, once he's released. Colmbs was

(00:58):
convicted last month on two prostitutions related charges and faces
up to five years in prison at his October sentencing.
He also hopes to reconnect with his mother and seven children.
Five soldiers are recovering after a shooting at Fort Stuart, Georgia.
The suspected gunman, Sergeant Cornelius Radford, who was black, was
subdued by fellow soldiers and is in custody. I'm Amber

(01:18):
Payton with Bi in News. Now back to you, Doug.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
All right, thank you. The latest on the Fort Stuart shooting.
There is some encouraging news. Three of the five soldiers
injured in yesterday's shooting are now out of the hospital.
The other two are expected to make full recoveries, with
the one possibly being discharged by the weekend. Former Army
Captain African American Jeremy Hunt went on Fox News and
expressed his disappointment over this huspect, twenty eight year old

(01:41):
African American Sergeant Cornelius Radford's actions.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
I'm really angry about this, and then it's heartbreaking to
hear this is a fellow soldier who carried out this
attack against people who wear the same uniform as the
person who carried out this attack. Man, it's very mixed.
This all the more tragic, and you know these are
people who show up to work every day. And these
are soldiers who raised their right hand and swore to

(02:07):
defend our constitution, and who cared deeply about our country.
And the idea that they would be at home one
base and will be victims of an attack like this
is just it's unthinkable.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Rightford use his own personal handgun to carry out the
attack and subdued by fellow officers within minutes and taken
into custody. We are still waiting to hear about a motive.
I Meanwhile, many of us who use social media witnessed
the brutal mob attack in Cincinnati. Well, the white woman
who's only being identified as Holly and seen getting her
head kicked in on the sidewalk is calling out judges,

(02:40):
city leaders and the assailants who are black.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
The judges who are just letting people out with the slab.
The man who attacked me and might have permanently damaged
me forever should never have been on the streets ever,
and the fact that he had just gotten out of
jail previously for something he should have been in there
for years.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
She also criticized it growing culture in America that thrives
on capturing videos instead of helping when crime occurs.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
The biggest thing that I think really upsets me is
the desensitization of humans, where there's a brutal attack, attempted
murder in front of you and they all think, oh cool,
let me get my phone and record it. I truly
hope that in the future there's some sort of bill
so where somebody has to be prosecuted or at least

(03:29):
fined if they don't call nine one one first to
save someone's life.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Cincinnati has proposed legislation appropriately named Holly's Act, which would
penalize bystanders who failed to call nine one one during
an emergency. In the meantime, flyers promoting the ku Klux
Klan were found outside several black communities in Cincinnati this week.
Residents woke up to find KKK handouts scattered across lawns, sidewalks,
into even near in elementary school. And Finally, Missouri lawmakers

(03:56):
have created the Missing and Murdered African American Women in Girls'
Task Force to confront the crisis of missing black women.
The group will review how the state handles these cases
and recommend policy changes. Stay informed, stay connected, and subscribe
follow bi in news this hour wherever you get your podcasts,
I'm Doug Davis for the Black Information Network. Happy Thursday,

(04:16):
and stay safe out there.
