hired in Illinois, Governor J. B. Pritzker signed the measure
into law yesterday. What happened to her was the very
definition of injustice.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
The law creates stricter hiring practices for law enforcement by
requiring departments to thoroughly investigate a candidate's history, including disciplinary
records and misconduct, before hiring them. The measure was introduced
after former Sangamon County Sheriff's deputy Sean Grayson shot and
killed Massey, a black woman, inside her home in July
twenty twenty four. She'd called for help fearing a prowler
(01:52):
was outside. Investigators revealed that Grayson had a history of
disciplinary issues at his previous police jobs, and it pleaded
guilty in misdemeanor duy cases. He is charged with first
degree murder and is set to go on trial in October.
In Cincinnati, in tensions are rising after a viral street
brawl on July twenty sixth left six people injured and
seven black individuals facing charges. Now, black pastors and community
(02:16):
leaders are demanding that the white man seen slapping a
black man allegedly sparking the fight also be charged. Reverend
Damon Lynch the third and former judge Tracy Hunter, who
is now senior pastor of the Western Hills Brethren in
Christ Church, argued that the slap incited violence and should
qualify as a felony under Ohio law.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Because those six individuals were charged with aggravated assault, which
is a felony. The white guy incited or urged six
other people to commit a felony, which means, based on
Part B of the statue, he should be charged with
inciting to violence, a felony of the third degree.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Critics say the investigation shows racial bias, as only black
participants have been indicted so far. Cincinnati Mayor Aftapervol acknowledged
community frustration and promised decisions on future charges soon. Beyonce
