The DC crime crackdown has begun. Black Princeton professor and
frequent MSNBC panelist, doctor Eddie Glaud Junior, is upset and
concerned about the Trump administration's DC takeover, and a statue
of doctor Martin Luther King Junior in Florida is facing
backlash from some Winter Park residents. But first, here's b

The Texas Senate approved new congressional maps Tuesday in an
effort to give Republicans more seats in the House of Representatives.
The district maps still need to be approved by the
state House, which has been at a standstill since Democrats
left the state to protest the move. We cannot take
up the critical flood response legislation scheduled for our floor today.
Nine Senate Democrats walked out yesterday to protest what they

called a corrupt process. Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court is
scheduling the date it will return to the case of
Louisiana's congressional maps. In January twenty twenty four, the state
legislature approved a congressional map with a second black majority district.
Non black voters sued the state, claiming the map was
an illegal racial jerrymander, and a new chapter's opening for

black owned bookstores nationwide. The National Association of Black Bookstores,
nicknamed NAB two as made its debut and as uniting
black booksellers from coast to coast. I'm Esther Dillard with

The White House says officers surged across Washington d C
made nearly two dozen arrests Monday night. Press Secretary Caroline
Levitt said this is just the start.

As part of the President's massive law enforcement surge. Last night,
approximately eight hundred and fifty officers and agents were surged
across the city. They made a total of twenty three arrests,
including multiple other contacts.

The arrests came hours after President Trump announced d c's
police are being placed under federal control. He also activated
hundreds of National Guard troops to help patrol DC's streets.
Levitt also spoke on the emergency authority that the President
exercised under the DC Home Rule Act, which will expire
in thirty days unless Congress approves an extension.

Over the course of the next month, the Trump administration
will relentlessly pursue and arrest every violent criminal in the
district who breaks the law, undermines public safety and endangers
law abiding Americans.

The President said his action could also be used as
a model for the takeover of other US cities with
high crime rates, specifically mentioning Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore,
and Oakland. During Monday's news conference, tensions flared on MSNBC
as Black Princeton professor doctor Eddie Glaud Junior blasted President
Trump's crime crackdown in Washington, DC, calling it political theater. Claud,

visibly outraged, accused Trump of using the National Guard deployment
and federal control of DC police as a distraction from
the Epstein scandal.

I think he's trying to move the Epstein's story off
the front page. He's trying to get us to pay
attention to something else. He doesn't want us to begin
to ask where are the files again. He's trying to
move that story off the front page and turn our
attention by way of his particular racial dog whistles to
crime in a city that's predominantly black, or at least

He argued President Trump is an addressing root causes of crime,
like poverty and inequality, and is instead reigniting old battles
with Black Lives Matter and criminal justice reform. While Trump
declared a public safety emergency, critics point out that violent
crime in DC is actually down twenty six percent this year,
though homicides remain high. Convicted Rappertory Lanes lost a bid

to introduce new evidence in the Megandistallion shooting case. Lanes,
whose real name is day Star Peterson, was sentenced to
ten years in prison for shooting meganis Stallion real name
Megan Pete in the foot after a twenty twenty party
in the Hollywood Hills. A California court rejected parts of
his appeal on Tuesday, but his main appeal remains active,
with the hearing set for Monday. And a statue meant

to honor a civil rights icon in Florida's Orange County
doesn't seem to be too popular. Winter Park residents showed
up at a community meeting last night to criticize a
new doctor Martin Luther King ju Junior statue erected at
Unity Corner. The artist said that the King family supported
the statue, but many are calling it disappointing and cartoonish.
