Speaker 1 (00:02):
For BIN News this hour. I'm mister Dillard coming up.
Illinois's governor confirms Ice called him to say they're on
the way. Pritzker says it's unclear if National Guard troops
are behind them. Black Texas congress Woman Jasmine Crockett says
those redrawn maps in Texas will no doubt be challenged
in court. And the power ball jackpot keeps growing. But first,
(00:24):
here's BN News Now.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
President Trump says federal forces will intervene in Chicago, suggesting
the National Guard may be sent in, though he did
not give a timeline. He claimed black residents are asking
for help.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Most of them were African American who were black, and
they were.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Saying, please, please, please.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Let the presidents send it.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
These were people from Chicago.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
He went on to criticize the city's high murder rate
and point it to what he called success with the
Guard in Washington, d c. Black Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott
is praising a sharp drop in violent crime, with twenty
twenty five one pace for the fewest homicides in fifty years.
The city has seen ninety one killings through August, down
nearly thirty percent from last year. Along with a twenty
one percent drop in shootings. And former black college basketball
(01:07):
coach and Nike executive George Raveling has died at eighty
eight after a battle with cancer. Inducted into both the
College Basketball and Nay Smith Halls of Fame, Raveling later
became Nike's Global basketball Marketing director and famously urged Michael
Jordan to sign with the brand. I'm Amber Payton with

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Illinois Governor JB. Pritzker says Ice notified him that they're
coming to Chicago, and he's not happy about it.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I'm very deeply concerned that he's going to have Ice
come here and cause the same mayhem that they caused
in Los Angeles, so that he can say, oh, look
there's mayhem on the ground. I'm going to have to
call in National Guard.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
He says that kind of move is not what Chicagoans want.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
I'm very concerned about the President thinking that troops on
the ground somehow is a okay, it's un American, it's
anti American, literally putting troops into American cities, attacking the
people of Chicago who don't want him here.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
He added, It's not a long term solution to stopping crime,
and it's illegal, and a US District Court john degrees.
Judge Charles Bryer in San Francisco rules that the deployment
to Los Angeles this summer was illegal and is a
violation of the Posse Comatatis Act, which prohibits the use
of US troops to enforce domestic laws. The Trump administration
(02:20):
argues that Guard was sent in to protect federal officers
and property, not to enforce domestic laws. Meanwhile, Missouri will
take up redistricting in a special session of the state legislature.
Missouri Governor Mike Keho made the announcement while unveiling a
proposed congressional map of the Republican led state, adding he
wants to start this week. The move comes after California
(02:42):
lawmakers recently approved a special election for voters to decide
on Democratic led redistricting maps. Keyhoe's announcement came the day
Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed into law new maps in Texas.
Black Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett says the redrawn maps and
tien Texas will be challenged in court. She's encouraging those
(03:03):
who don't support what Republicans did with the redistricting to
support Democrats, even in small ways. The black congresswoman said
this on the Don Lemon Show on YouTube.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
The people still possess the power, and I need you
to use it because what they want you to do
is feel like you're hopeless. They want you to say
all is lost, and that is when they win. Is
when you refuse to fight back. For me, I personally
believe that the antidote is education.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
She added, donations to Texas Democrats, who are now facing
hefty fines for walking out to delay the redistrict vote,
can help. Although they can't pay the fines, with the
donations to their campaigns, they can use the money to
pay other bills. Crockett says the average Texas lawmaker is
paid around seven thousand dollars a year. And finally, somebody
(03:49):
still has a chance to win it big with power Ball.
The jackpot is now at one point three billion dollars
in growing after there was no big winners on Monday night,
With no winner since May, it's the fifth largest prize
in power ball history and with a nearly six hundred
million dollar payout, people are daring to dream of what
they would do with that money, Stay informed, stay connected,
