Speaker 1 (00:02):
Bia News This Hour, Davis coming up. The DOJ has
officially launched a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve governor African
American Lisa Cook. Plus President Trump says crime will be
a big issue in twenty twenty six, but is it
all about control? I'm still ahead. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts
will soon becoming breakfast icon as a team opens the

(00:22):
NFL season against the Cowboys tonight. But first, here's bi
in News Now.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Singer Montel Jordan revealed on NBC's Today's Show that his
prostate cancer has returned, now at stage two after surgery
last year.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Fully confident, I know God is healer. I also know
that I have the greatest of care professionals and people
that are alongside of me to make sure that we
are completely cancer free.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Diagnosed in twenty twenty four, the singer says he remains
optimistic thanks to early detection. Washington DC police officers will
get a thirteen percent raise next month under a new agreement.
Black may Or Muria Bowser also announced plans to boost
the force two officers. The department currently has about thirty
two hundred. The DC Council is expected to approve the
Deal September seventeenth and Blackmail and Attorney General Anthony Brown

(01:08):
and nineteen other states are challenging a federal policy that
denies bond hearings for undocumented immigrants. They argue indefinite attention
without hearings violates due process, harms families and economies, and
unfairly impacts longtime residents with no criminal history. I'm Imber
Payton with Bin News. Now back to you, Doug.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
All right, thank you. African American Lisa Cook, a Federal
Reserve governor appointed by President Biden, is now under criminal
investigation by Trump's DOJ. The pro follows allegations from a
Trump ally who claims Cook committed mortgage fraud on applications
for homes in various states. Those states have issued grand
jury subpoenas. Incubate Debate founder and Azoria CEO James Fishback

(01:48):
tells Fox Business Cook is in some serious trouble.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
This type of mortgage fraud undermines mortgage origination. We call
it at Azoria the Lease of Cook tax. We did
the math on mistake in because of the owner occupancy
fraud that Lisa Cooked committed. If you were to eliminate
all of that in the entire housing market, you would
actually lower mortgage rates by fourteen basis points. That might
not sound like a lot, but that's seventeen thousand dollars

(02:13):
over the life of a thirty year fixed rate mortgage. I
think the Federal Reserve gets far too much credit on
the way up and far too little accountability on the
way down.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Cook is pushing back, arguing that the move violates federal
law and undermines the Fed's independence. While President Trump appears
to be laying the groundwork for the twenty twenty six
mid terms, and he's putting crime front and center.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
We're making a determination, now, do we go to Chicago
or do we go to a place like New Orleans,
where we have a great governor, Jeff Landry, who wants
us to come in and straighten out a very nice
section of this country that's become quite quite tough, quite bad.

(02:54):
And you have New Orleans which has a crime problem,
will straighten that out in about two weeks.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Recent poll show that crime is top of mind voters,
but critics have a different story. Veteran polster Cornell Belcher,
who was black, speaking to MSNBC, says the strategy leans
more on political theater than real solutions. Trump's current strategy
echoes one he took in his first term in office,
where he used crime and immigration as a way to
ignite his base. And finally, Eagles quarterback African American Jalen

(03:20):
Hurts will grace the cover of Wheedy Cereal this fall,
joining a legacy of athletes who've used their platform to
inspire others. Weedy says Hurts was chosen not just for
his performance, but for his work in the community of Philadelphia,
particularly for his efforts to support Philly's underserved students, maybe
who are black. After Hurts gave two hundred thousand dollars
for Philly schools to purchase air conditioning units, he told

(03:42):
reporters that.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
Tell these kids that there everybody's their own breed of one.
You are breed of one yourself. You you have something
within that makes you special and you have to go
find that. And I think just being pushed to prepare
for it, to navigate those things is where it starts.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Urch has donated accountless dollars to local schools and mentorship
programs by way of his Jalen Hurts Foundation. The Eagles
take on the Cowboys tonight in the NFL season opener.
