Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's been another busy news week and we like to
review the major stories of the week here on the
Black Information Network. Today, we are joined by Black Information
Network news anchors Terry McCready and Trey Thomas to discuss
this week's major stories. This is the Black Information Network
Daily Podcast, and I'm your host. Ramsy's jah. All right,
Terry McCready, Trey Thomas, Welcome back to the show. Terry,

(00:22):
how have you been since we last spoke?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Oh? Wonderful. Enjoying this changeover of the weather. This is fabulous,
except for, of course, Hurricane Helen, which you know, I
hope everyone's going to stay out of the harm's way,
sure because of this impending storm. But here where I am,
weather couldn't be better.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
You know. I'm in Phoenix, so our seasons are finally
starting to change. Yesterday was only one hundred and two,
so me and my little boy got to go on
a bike ride. So we are enjoying not having one
hundred and eighteen degree temperatures outside. Right now, Trey, talk
to me, man, how about you?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
What's the latest?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Man? I'm enjoying the change in season. Fall is my
favorite time of year, and man, is it a busy
news cycle that we're in right now with everything that's happening.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Absolutely, absolutely, and let's get right to it because we
do have a lot to cover. First up, as music Mobile,
Sean Ditty Combs remains in custody at a New York
City jail. His high powered attorney made headlines this week
while attempting to explain the reason behind some of the
interesting evidence sees at Ditty's home by federal authorities. Terry,
let's start today's show off with you give us some
details on this story, and then Trey will come you next.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Okay, So just to sort of scroll back with this case.
You know, he pleaded not guilty charges linked to the
so called Freakoffs coerced sexual acts that allegedly were recorded
by Ditty himself. That's according to a federal indictment. Of course,
the list goes on. He's accused of witnessed tampering and
then comes this bizarre evidence that was uncovered in the

(01:54):
rate of his mansion, one thousand bottles of lubricant and
baby oil. You know, I saw that, thought, Okay, well,
Homeland Security wasn't quite expecting that and did He's attorney
ended up telling TMZ, rather, he really isn't sure what
that's all about. That, you know, he's pretty honest when

(02:15):
it comes to his accessories and the things that he
uses in his home. Possibly he is a cost Co
shopper in bulk. I thought that was very cheeky. Then
the attorney went on to say, well, you know, one
bottle pretty much goes a very long way way right
right right. But on a serious note, other things that

(02:38):
were confiscated were these ar fifteens, ammunition. All of it
is just so extremely sortid, with victims reported being drug
raped and recorded and having these sexual encounters without consent.
Did he of course, remains in a Brooklyn detention center.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Trey, let's get you to weigh in here.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
Well, I was I kind of got a chuckle out
of the Costco explanation last time I went to Costco.
You know, I don't think you can buy a thousand
bottles of anything there in bulk. So that was an
interesting explanation from his attorney. But Harvey Levin, the founder

(03:21):
of TMZ, they're doing this documentary about the fall of Diddy,
the indictment, and they are fixated on the amount of
lubricant that was found, both the lubricants and the baby oil,
and so the lawyer had to come up with some explanation,
and I guess he thought Costco was a good answer.

(03:43):
But I've never seen anyone walk out of Costco with
a thousand bottles of anything.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, I'm going to say something that I've been thinking.
Oh man, I hope I don't get in trouble. I'm
going to say something that I've been thinking. But it's
hard to say it because it sounds like a defense
of Diddy. It's not that. I want to be very clear,

(04:10):
it is only one possible explanation. And I only felt
this way because I've kind of seen something similar in
the past. So many of our listeners know that in
a former life, I was a you know, radio personality
in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm the hip hop station, and I was,

(04:31):
and you know, still am, a DJ. I like rock
and party. Still didn't outgrow that yet. Once upon a time,
I found myself djaying at an adult venue. Okay, it's
not my scene, but the pay was fantastic. And this

(04:52):
was kind of at a midpoint in my DJ career.
So I was still looking for gigs, and that one
was paying the most. I had a new baby on
the way, you know.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
That was what I did.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Again, not my scene. And while I was there, I
saw a lot of interesting things, things that people are into,
things that are not things that I would otherwise be into.
But you know, people spent a lot of money and
came and whatever. And one of the things that we
saw was wrestling. And you would often have these businesses

(05:23):
going and getting bulk jello or bulk baby oil or
bulk whatever, and then they would pour it into like
an inflatable tub and then they would have people wrestle
in there, with the idea being that this would be
titilating for the crowd. And you know what came to

(05:43):
mind was, oh, that's I mean, who needs a thousand bottles.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Of baby oil for a freak off party or a
white party.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
He's probably had the idea or the intention of doing
like a wrestling sort of thing where you pour these
into a like again, an inflatable pool, put it in
the lawn and have people get in there and wrestle
because it's you know, it's slippery.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
So again that's not a defense. It's just something that
came to mind.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
I realize I'm revealing a lot of stuff that you know,
is you know, from you know, the annals of my
my story, but uh, you know, just some food for
thought for people to process. But I think that it
fits a little bit better than oh, he just went
and bought six palettes of baby oil from Costco, because again,
that sounds it sounds crazy. So it remains to be

(06:33):
seen what the defense will, uh we'll do with this.
But again, the more things that continue to come out
about Diddy, the more it seems like, you know, he
might have been up to some things that were kind of.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Really not cool. You know.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
I did my best to try to leave my judgment
until all the facts came to light. But the more
that is coming to light, the more I feel like
these people, you know, definitely need to be heard, and
their stories do seem credible and plausible, especially given the

(07:10):
video that leaked about him assaulting Cassie in Beverly Hills.
So we'll see what the rest of the story holds,
but for now, that's what I think those thousand bottles
of baby baby oil for.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
So anyway, well, remember the pearl clutching when Hugh Hefner
just wore his pajamas and his bathrobe at his parties.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
MM.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, that was a big deal. You're not wrong. Well,
how the times have changed? Yes? All right?

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Next up, President Biden stopped by ABC's The View this
week for an interview with the cast and shared his
thoughts about how things would have turned out if he
had continued his campaign for a second term. Tray this time,
we're going to start with you share it with our listeners,
more info on the president's comments on the View, and
then Terry will get your thoughts afterwards.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
The President spent about a half hour with the ladies
of The View, and I got the feeling that really
this him about putting a pen in his legacy. It
seems that he's concerned about people about people's perception of
him dropping out of the race. One of the things
that he said to them is that I'm at peace

(08:15):
with my decision and that look, when I ran for
his last term, I said, I saw myself as a
transition president. Is what he's telling the ladies of the View.
But what happened was we were having so much success
in getting things done that people felt we couldn't get done.
Don't know what he meant by that, But I do

(08:37):
know that he seems to downplay all of the prodding
he was getting from sent A Majority Leader Chuck Schumer
as well as former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
They both said that he should step down, and he said, well,
that's not the reason why I stepped down. He also

(08:59):
did take some time to pump up Kamala Harris, the
Vice president, by saying that he felt that she had
the gumption and the guts and the intelligence to be
successful in her campaign. But the main message of the
View seems to be that, hey, I could have won.

(09:19):
He still believes he could have won despite the debuncle
of that debate with president former President Donald Trump. So
that's how that turned out. It seems like he's trying
to put a pin in his legacy and say, hey,
I stepped down because I thought it was the best
thing to do, but I still could have won this race,

(09:43):
is what he told the ladies at the view.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Right, Well, let's get you Towagh and hear Terry, because
Trey might be honest something, but I'd love to get
your thoughts here as well.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Well, first of all, I'm going to be a little
bit of a fuss budget when I wasn't sure really
how they did blocking for the President in terms of
how he was going to enter the stage and exit.
But I noticed he walked on and Pristina to stroll
right past Whoopee and Sarah Haines and went right up

(10:14):
to Andovorrow and Joy and Sonny and then Alyssa. So
obviously they did not gain this out in a way
that they said to the President, Look, you're going to
walk in. You're going to enter stage left, stop and
say hello to Whoopy and Sarah and then move on
to the other ladies. So that kind of that didn't

(10:35):
feel great because I saw the look on Sarah Haynes's face.
She looked a little surprised. Obviously, you know, she's a professional.
Would never mention it, but I noticed it immediately. Other
than that, I thought the interview went swimmingly. I thought
that he spoke very effectively and confidently saying that you know,
he felt ultimately he could have been the guy, he
could have beaten Trump, and that fighting Irish spirit, in

(10:59):
my opinion, was alive and well. He was self deprecating
when it came to talk about his age. He's eighty one.
Most importantly, he insisted he was at peace about his
decision to exit the race, and then, rather surprisingly, he
said that he was never really all in with the
belief that there was this vast effort in place to

(11:20):
force him out. Yeah, so he's very steadfast and you know,
very driven in his belief. He won't be shaken, won't
be made to believe that he has enemies that he
and you know, Nancy Pelosi are beefing in any way.
So I like that. I felt very encouraged by what
he had to say.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Sure, Sure, the thing that I took from it that
provided the most clarity for me, because I was sort
of confused by Joe Biden at a point if you
remember the way that I do. When he was first running,
he had committed to be a one term president. He

(12:06):
started his presidency, you know, we were we had to
vote for him because he was the guy at the
time the Democratic Establishment did another karate sweep of Bernie Sanders,
and you know, Joe Biden was the guy we ended
up with. If you remember when everyone was running back
in twenty twenty, Joe Biden was way down on the

(12:28):
list of people who.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
We thought was going.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
To actually end up in the Oval office, and when
he got there, he just was a person that folks
felt could appeal to the sort of never trumpers who
could also never vote Democrat. Joe Biden wasn't as far
left as Bernie Sanders, so they could feel comfortable casting
a vote for him. And that Joe Biden, as I mentioned,

(12:53):
was only going to be the president for four years.
So we all understood that no one in my circles
at least was in love with Joe Biden. It was
he was just the right guy at the right time.
Fast forward, Joe Biden says, oh, no, I'm going to
run for a second term. And those of us that remember,
you know, his position early in when he was first running,

(13:16):
we're confused by that because it's like, wait a minute,
you just said this a few years ago. Man, Now
you're changing what our options look like. We were supposed
to have a new set of options. You were supposed
to fix that problem, not be our you know, you know,
gum up the next decade.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
With your leadership style.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I want to be kind here, And that always confused
me because it just feels like people will say anything
they can to get in power. And then say anything
that they can to keep power. And I didn't think
that Joe Biden was that type of person. Well, you know,
with this conversation, him saying that he was having so
much success and he wanted to kind of finish the job,

(13:57):
that made sense. Okay, it's still what he had committed to,
but it makes sense in terms of why he wanted
to kind of stay the course. And then, of course,
you know, it's it's well documented that he's you know,
he's endorsed Kamala Harris and that she's doing a lot
better than he was, the fact that he still thinks
that he could have you know, stuck the landing speaks

(14:18):
to again, his his fighting spirit, and who's to say
what would have been. I admire his confidence. I would
have still voted for him over Donald Trump. So you know,
I can't really split hairs at this point. But at
least I got that from you know, this conversation, and
if that is somehow added to his legacy, you know,

(14:39):
for those of us that really held him to his
word that he was going to be a one term president,
at least it makes sense why we had that weird
moment where he was actually seriously considering seeking the nomination,
so you know, best best wishes to him. Again, he
was the right guy at the right time, and you
know history is written.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
This is Andrea Coleman reminding you that your vote matters.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Black Information Network news anchors Terry McCready and Trey Thomas
are here with us discussing this week's major stories. All right,
another day, another negative headline for battled black Lieutenant governor
Mark Robinson as he continues his campaign for governor. This time,
the headline involves comments Robinson allegedly made about another famous
civil rights leader. Terry, tell us more about this story,

(15:53):
and then Trey, we're going to want to hear from
you next.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Oh boy, how do you solve a problem like Mark Robinson?

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Giving right?

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Yes, indeed, so just for context. In two thousand and nine,
Lieutenant Governor Robinson felt like weighing in on a story
about Al Sharpton, at the time joining a protest against
police brutality, and so Robinson went on to comment on
a news website that if cops want to shoot an
elderly black man, they should have shot Sharpton since closing

(16:24):
his mouth would be good for the nation. And so
that's the spectacularly flawed character study of someone trying to
become governor of North Carolina. So he famously has taken
shots at other people, everyone from Obama to Oprah. His
inflammatory rhetoric has finally gone off the rails with this

(16:44):
black Nazi moniker that was used on a porn website
speaking frankly about enjoying voyeurism and owning slaves. But you know,
I've said, there really would be no Mark Robinson without
Donald Trump, right, you know, because we're talking about unbrided, unethical, feral,
and depraved behavior. It didn't happen in a vacuum. And

(17:06):
I think really Trump made that, okay, And the fact
that Robinson is a black man espousing this sort of rancor,
it's transformed him into a novelty act like a sideshow.
And that's my take on Mark Robinson, who incidentally has
no chance of winning the governorship of North Carolina.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
At this point.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
All right, Trey Thomas, let's get you to talk to
us about this one.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
This has kind of always been Robinson's m o. He
kind of came into the political spotlight by saying in
scendiary things, and as we know, on the far right,
they are very big on saying I mean, right now,
we have a whole controversy about immigrants and Ohio that

(17:55):
was started by the vice presidential and presidential nominee. And
here's a guy who his whole career is owed to saying,
you know, incendiary things about other people. The thing that
caught my ear though, was, you know, in addition to

(18:16):
these comments about al Sharton, what he said about doctor
Martin Luther King, those things actually got Martin Luther King
the third fired up, and he's come out and in
defense of his father and saying that Mark Robinson is

(18:36):
not fit to serve. So I'm never surprised by what
this man says. And it seems that every single time
his name pops up, just something worse and worse seems
to come out of his mouth.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Yeah, and hypocritical, because one thing I don't want to
overlook again is some of the hateful things that it
came out that he had committed to that porn site
about what about transgender people? And I don't know that
it was hateful as much as it was how he
appreciated transgender folks. And then obviously later in his career,

(19:17):
his political career, he is famously attacked transgender people. And
so the hypocritical nature and the flip flopping of his
stance for political croc cloud or because he feels like
he can sacrifice that group of voters or humans so
that he could get attention or you know, galvanize his
base or something like that. It feels, honestly, this guy.

(19:46):
I'll be happy when we don't have to talk about
this man anymore, just because you know he's he's Okay,
let me read this quote. Obama is a black face
step and fetch it for liberal white America.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
So this is something that he said about Obama, And
now we're looking at him with all this stuff that
has come out. He has never been presented, at least
to me, in a flattering light ever, okay. But now
that all this stuff is coming out, when I re
examine his comments that he's made about other prominent black
leaders in this country, I wonder how he views himself

(20:24):
because he has not mounted a defense. He's only said
that it wasn't me. And it's like, no, there's like
forensic you know, evidence that you know, or like, you know,
the digital footprint, the email addresses that you famously used
for decades and all this sort of stuff. It's you,
we know it's you, we can see you, right, And

(20:45):
he's just taken that out of the Trump playbook. No
it's not me. No, somebody's framing me or you know.
I wouldn't surprise him if he says Iran Russia is
behind it or something crazy like that. But his failure
to address the reality of his situation is infuriating. And again,

(21:07):
I'll be happy when we don't have to talk about
this person anymore, because this man is an oxygen thief.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
And we'll leave it there our last story.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Mark Robinson, of course, isn't the only high profile black
political figure making headlines this week. There's more trouble brewing
for the mayor of New York and now prominent members
of Congress and voice in their thoughts on his administration.
Trey share the latest developments on this story with us,
and then Terry, we're gonna come to you to close
us out.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Well, when we were talking about this earlier, the indictment
was unsealed.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Today.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
We knew it was coming, but now we know what's
in it. Prosecutors unsealed that indictment, accusing atoms of a
legal campaigns, concealment of travel benefits, and more. The charges
include wire fraud and solicitation of a contribution by a
foreign national And what they're saying is that he was

(22:02):
accepting money from the government of Turkey. Now, this is
sort of this is the big sign that has led
other people, other people in the Democratic Party to call
for Adams to resign, and right now that includes Ocassio

(22:25):
Cortes Alexandriacasio Cortes, the congresswoman from New York. She's calling
for him to resign, saying on Twitter yesterday she posted,
I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing
New York City and she said the flood of resignations

(22:45):
and vacancies are threatening government function and she doesn't see
how all these non stop investigations is going to make
it possible for him to recruit and retain a qualified administrations.
So she's saying that he should step down. We've known
for months now some of his lieutenants have been they've

(23:10):
been indicted, and so we knew that there was an air,
there was a stint about his administration, and now we
have the indictment that's unsealed that is pointing directly at him.
So it's a precarious situation for Eric Adams right now,
the former cop, the former captain with the New York

(23:33):
Police Department. And we'll have to see what happens going forward.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Terry, let's teach it not well.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
You know, as Trey indicated, this indictment does appear pretty astonishing,
but it really shouldn't. The story has persisted for months
and months and months with the FBI probing. He of
course is denying any wrongdoing, as we've just noted in
this news conference that he just gave just a few
minutes ago, you know, with the mass exodus of his

(24:04):
aids and with these raids of their homes and cell
phones being seized. But for right now, he does hold
the dubious distinction of being the first New York City
mayor ever to be indicted. And Trey just mentioned Alexandria
A Casio Cortes, you know, before this indictment even happened,
she was calling for him to step down. But on

(24:25):
the on the flip side, Richie Torres, who is another
Democratic representative, says that until he is actually proven guilty,
he needs to just really just remain in place. And
I guess that's something that you know, Eric Adams himself
plans to do. Worth noting, just in the last couple
of weeks, the Chief Council, Health Commissioner and nyb PD

(24:49):
commissioner have all stepped down. So this just you know,
this is like a drip drip, drip, Chinese water torture process.
With this story, it's it's a black eye for the city.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Sure.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
And you know the thing is, if I'm honest, this
is something that I'm starting to become intimately familiar with.
And uh, you know, as I'm reading into these these stories,
you know, going all the way back, it does feel
like everyone feels confident in their position. And indeed, the

(25:27):
folks who have resigned, you know, maybe it's just bad timing,
but you know, the folks who have resigned, they're they're
suggesting that they're retiring, not resigning because of this there.
You know, it's time for them to move on to
do other things, you know, and so the timing looks bad.
But from their position, you know, if they've done a

(25:48):
job for forty years and they're ready to retire, you
know it just you know, you can't really look at
that as evidence that you know, there was corruption there.
And so again I'm coming into this. You know, I'm
not a New Yorker, so you know, I'm coming into
this after the fact, and you know, it's kind of

(26:10):
sobering to see all of the moving pieces. But of
course we're going to continue to keep tabs on it,
and as the story develops, we're going to be all
over it. As always, i'd like to thank you both
