Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you wanted with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm Doug Krisner,
and we begin with the latest on today's meeting at
the White House regarding peace in Ukraine. Earlier this evening,
President Trump outlined plans for a bilateral meeting between Russian
President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenski. Now, according to Trump,
that will be followed by a trilateral summit involving Putin,
(00:22):
Zolensky and Trump. Here is Zelenski speaking to reporters after
the meeting.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
We don't have any day. We just conformed after this
productive meeting with President and then with all our colleagues,
the partners who conformed that we are ready for trilateral meeting.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
That is Ukrainian President Vladimir Zolenski speaking there now. According
to German Chancellor Friedrich murr Is, a possible summit between
Zolensky and Putin could take place within two weeks. SoftBank
Group says it will invest two billion dollars in Intel
through the purchase of common stock. Now, this investment comes
as Intel and softa Bank deep in their commitment to
(01:01):
investing in advanced technology and semiconductor innovation in the US,
and it follows our reporting of the Trump administration considering
taking a ten percent stake in Intel. Where total, the
administration may convert some or all of Intel's grants from
the US Chips and Science Act into equity. Here is
Bloomberg's Anabel Jewelers.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
It is important to note that Intel was already looking
to get funding from the US government. Converting it, though
into equity, speeds at that timeline because grant funding would
have been dispersed over a much longer period of time.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
That is Bloomberg's Annabel Jewelers. Shares in Intel jumped about
five percent in lay trading on news of the soft
Bank announcement. Air Canada flights remained grounded after flight attendants
defied a back to work order from Canada's labor board.
The union representing over ten thousand staff said members will
not return until their demands for higher pay and boarding
(01:54):
time compensation are met. Now the strike has stranded hundreds
of thousands of travelers since Saturday. Eric Canada CEO Michael
Rousseau spoke earlier to Bloomberg.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
We could go to the courts and seek an injunction,
which we may do. I mean, we're also very very
disappointed with the actions of the QP leadership team. They're
violating law and it's the impacting Negavey impacting hundreds of
thousands of our customers right now.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Eric Canada CEO Michael Rousseau, speaking earlier to Bloomberg. Meantime,
Eric Canada has suspended its financial outlook, with analyst estimating
losses at over fifty four million dollars a day. The
airline is now hoping to resume flights on Tuesday. Home
Depot's outlook on home improvement demand will be in focus
when the retailer reports quarterly earnings before the opening bell Tuesday.
(02:48):
The company is expected to post positive comp sales for
the quarter. Greg Melick is senior managing director at Evercore Isi.
He spoke earlier to Bloomberg.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
We do think that the second half this year there's
as to retail sales, not a recession, not a disaster,
but a deceleration from the four and a half percent
growth earlier this year to maybe three and a half
and as that plays out into next year, though, once
we get the carrots of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act,
that stimulus is going to come and hit pretty hard
(03:19):
in a positive way. In the first quarter next year.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
That is Greg Mellick from Evercore Isi. President Trump says
he will sign an executive order targeting mail in ballots
and voting machines. Now needless to say, this move could
dramatically change how Americans cast their ballots. More from Bloomberg's
Amy Morris in.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
Washington, President Trump claims voting machines are inaccurate, expensive and controversial,
and that mail in ballots should not be allowed.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Mail in ballots are corrupt.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Mail in ballots.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
You can never have a real democracy with mail in ballots.
Speaker 6 (03:54):
Trump provided no evidence to back up his claims and
no insight into how people would vote if they're deployed
overseas or disabled or elderly. Congress sets voting regulations, but
it's state governments that set the time, place, and manner
of holding federal elections under the US Constitution. In Washington,
Amy Morris Bloomberg Radio.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
The interim US Attorney for Manhattan, J. Clayton was approved
by a group of judges to remain in the post
pending confirmation as a permanent prosecutor by the US Senate. Now,
Clayton's temporary term was set to expire within one hundred
and twenty days under federal law. However, the judge's decision
will allow him to stay in the post until he
(04:34):
or someone else appointed by President Trump wins Senate confirmation.
And that is news when you want it with Bloomberg News. Now,
I'm Doug prisoner, and this is Bloomberg
