Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Doug Prisner. President Trump is vowing to push forward with
his tariffs in the coming days. Today, the President said
he would not offer additional extensions on country specifical levies
set to take effect in early August. Here is Bloomberg's
Adam Ferrer.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
We've seen already two tariff deadlines move, and there's certainly
a possibility that this new deadline can move as well.
The big takeaway is that countries that are in tough negotiations,
particularly larger trading partners like Korea and Japan, that were
reaching real difficulty in their discussions as they reached the
complex issues like agricultural imports and auto tariffs, have been

(00:42):
given a lifeline of three weeks to further negotiate with
the US government and try and find a solution before
that August deadline.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
That is Bloomberg's Adam Ferrer. Also today, President Trump announced
that he will impose a fifty percent tariff on copper
products being imported into the US. Here is Trump.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
I believe the.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Tariff and copper are going to make it fifty percent.
We'll be announcing something very soon on pharmaceuticals. We're going
to give people about a year a year and a
half to come in, and after that they're going to
be tariffed. If they have to bring the pharmaceuticals into
the country, the drugs and other things into the country,
they're going to be tariffed at a very very high rate,
like two hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
President Trump speaking there, We got some reaction to these
announcements from Carla Hill's former US Trade representative. She spoke
to Bloomberg's balance of power.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
If the deal goes through that he is articulated, in fact,
it'll raise inflation, it'll lower the number of jobs that
we create, it will create more costly products that we
can't participate in, and it's going to hurt the economy. So,

(01:48):
for geopolitical reasons and for economic reasons, his plan, and
I'm not sure he has one, is most unfortunate.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
She is carl Hill's former US trade representatives speaking on
Bloomberg's balance of power. The Supreme Court has cleared the
way for President Trump's plans to downsize the federal workforce.
Here's Bloomberg's Amy Morris from Washington.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
The High Court will allow the Trump administration to move
forward with plans to dramatically reduce the size of the
federal government, lifting a court order that had blocked nineteen
federal departments and agencies from slashing their workforces. Opponents say
the move will cause hundreds of thousands of federal workers
to lose their jobs. The Supreme Court decision will apply

(02:35):
while litigation moves forward. Justice Katanji Brown Jackson was the
only dissenting vote in Washington. Amy Morris Bloomberg Radio, We go.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
To Texas next to where first responders and volunteers are
still looking for those missing after devastating flash floods. Nearly
one hundred and ten people are confirmed dead, and that
includes the children and counselors from an all girls summer
camp near Kerrville. Texas Governor Greg Abbott says dozens of
people are still missing in Kirk County alone. Here is Abbot.

Speaker 2 (03:04):

people like.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
So I'd like it not just you, but like you.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
We saw the exact same response in Hurricane Harvey.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Texas Governor Greg Abbot speaking there. Meantime, officials in the
state are facing questions about their response to this disaster,
with some suggesting that more warnings could have been provided.
Here is Kirk County Sheriff, Larry Litha.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
You know that's going to take a little bit of time.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
As I've told you several times, that is not my
priority this time.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
There's three priorities.

Speaker 6 (03:38):
That's locating the people out there, identify and notify the Mexicain.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
That is what I'm taking is my job as sheriff
here to.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Do, Kirk County Sheriff, Larry Litha. The State Department is
tightening it's cybersecurity after an impostor used artificial intelligence to
impersonate Secretary of State Marco Rubio and in doing so
contact at least three foreign minutess as well as a
US governor and a member of Congress. Here's Tammy Bruce,

(04:05):
State Department spokesperson.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
The Department takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard its information
and continuously take steps to improve the Department's cybersecurity posture
to prevent future incidents.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Tammy Bruce, their spokesperson at the State Department. BEDA Platforms
has purchased a minority stake in the ray band maker
elslor Luxotica. We are told this stake, just under three percent,
is worth around three and a half billion dollars at
the current market price. Here is Bloomberg's man Deep Sing.

Speaker 2 (04:36):

can roll out across their family of apps, across their devices,
you know the Rabang glasses.

have partnered on the development of AI powered smart glasses.
And that is news. You want it with Bloomberg News. Now,
I'm Doug Prisoner and this is Bloomberg
