Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Doug Prisner. President Trump is calling for a group of
Democratic lawmakers to be put on trial for sedition now.
Trump was reacting to a video released by those Democrats
that told members of the intelligence community and the military
to disobey orders that would violate the law. Later, in
a post on truth Social Trump suggested the lawmakers should

(00:23):
face the death penalty. Trump also reposted another user's statement
that called for hanging Democrats. Here, as White House Press
Secretary Caroline Levitt, they are.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Literally saying to one point three million active duty service
members not to defy the chain of command. Every single
order that is given to this United States Military by
this Commander in Chief and through this chain of command
through the Secretary of War is lawful. We are following
the laws. We don't defy court orders. We do things

(00:54):
by the books. And to suggest and encourage that active
duty service members to by the chain of command is
a very dangerous thing for sitting members of Congress to do,
and they should be held accountable. And that's what the
President wants to see.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
That is White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt. President Trump
is expanding tariff breaks for Brazilian food products. Dozens of
popular items would be exempted from a forty percent levee
imposed on goods from Brazil earlier this year. Now, this
move could help bring down prices for things like coffee,
orange juice, and beef at a time of growing US

(01:28):
voter dissatisfaction over the cost of living. In a post
this evening on social media, Brazilian President Lula thanked Trump
for the tariff relief, but only partially. We move next
to the war in Ukraine. President Voladimir Zelensky said he
has agreed to work on a peace plan drafted by
the US and Russia to end this conflict now. The
proposal includes demands for Ukraine to seed territory and for

(01:52):
the removal of sanctions on Russia. Now Ukraine has repeatedly
called both unacceptable. Zelensky is expecting to speak with it
and Trump about these proposals. Here is Mara Rudman, former
senior White House security official.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
It is essentially the twenty twenty two Russia Plan that
it is drafted by the United States and Russia. So
drafted by one of the parties to the conflict and
then presented to the other not exactly a prescription for
forward movement.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
That is Maura Rudman, former senior White House security official. Now,
according to one of our sources, Zelensky did receive signals
from the US that he should accept this deal. Netflix,
along with Comcast and Paramount's guidance, have all submitted their
bids for all or parts of Warner Brothers Discovery. The
New York Times says these submissions met Warner's Thursday deadline. Now,

(02:43):
Comcast and Netflix are mostly interested in the film and
TV library. Earlier, Bloomberg reported Netflix is even willing to
give up opposition to releasing movies in theaters if it
were to acquire the studio and the library. Now Paramount
is willing to buy all of Warner Brothers in looting
it's cable channels like CNN, TNT, and the Cartoon Network.

(03:05):
Verizon is laying off more than thirteen thousand employees, and
this will shrink Verizon's non union workforce by as much
as twenty percent. The bulk of the affected employees will
be taken off Horizon's payroll by the end of the year.
Here is Bloomberg analyst John Butler, If.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
You're cutting thirteen percent of the workforce. There's a big
cost savings there, so you're getting leaner on the expense line,
which gives you a little more room on the revenue
line to begin to promote more and really step up
in match competitors like T Mobile, which continue to be
aggressive on price. And then at the lower end, of course,

(03:44):
you've got the cable operators and their wireless brands, and
they have been promoting very hard on price in order
to drive up their wireless installed base.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
That is Bloomberg analyst John Butler. Now Verizon will make
available a twenty million dollar fund to help employees learn
new skills that would include retraining for a job market
impacted by the rise of artificial intelligence. New York City
Mayor elect Zoron Mumdani will be meeting with President Trump
at the White House tomorrow. We have more from Bloomberg's

(04:15):
Amy Morris in Washington.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Mom Donnie has an agenda for his long awaited meeting
with President Trump.

Speaker 6 (04:21):
I have many disagreements with the President, and I believe
that we should be relentless and pursue all avenues and
all meetings that could make our city affordable for every
single New York.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
New York Republican Congressman Andrew Garbarino tells balance of power,
the president needs to flex his muscle.

Speaker 7 (04:39):
I hope the President makes clear to the mayor that
his past anti police rhetorick. He can't act this way.
It's mayor, and if he does anything that makes New
York less safe, the President has my support in doing
what he needs to do and making sure it stays safe.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
The meeting comes after the Trump administration reviewed canceling or
suspending funds that benefit New York City. In Washington, Amy
Moore as Bloomberg.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Radio, negotiations between the Trump administration and Harvard University are
close to an end. The White House had attempted to
freeze nearly three billion dollars in federal research grants to Harvard,
citing concerns over anti semitism and liberal bias on campus.
Well that prompted the university to sue the Trump administration,
arguing that the funding freeze was unconstitutional and that it

(05:22):
amounted to an abuse of executive power. Here is Education
Secretary Linda McMahon.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Their ongoing negotiations, and I feel very comfortable that we
are getting close to having those negotiations finalized.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
It's been open door conversation all along.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
That is Education Secretary Linda McMahon. Now, the administration's demands include,
shuddering diversity, equity and inclusion programs. And that is news
when you want it. With Bloomberg News Now, I'm Doug Prisner,
and this is Bloomberg
