Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Doug Prisner. Donald Trump and Chi Chen Ping spoke today
for the first time since their tear offf truths last month.
The President's discussed trade or in Ukraine and Taiwan. Now,
this call took place as China is engaged in a
diplomatic offensive against Japan. After Prime Minister Takeichi commented on

(00:23):
a possible Taiwan contingency a short while ago. Take Iichi
said she spoke with President Trump regarding his call with
she at Trump's request, here is Bloomberg's Yoshiaki Nahara.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
So it's a good sign that if it's you know,
indeed there was initiated by the White House, because the
last thing for Japan is that you know, it will
be left behind in terms of what's happening in terms
of communication between the US and China. But please, the
Taki got a home call from Trump, so that's a
good sign at tweast, showing that she definitely got attention

(01:00):
and probably support from the Trump administration of this important
evolving issue that.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Is Bloomberg's yoshi Aki Nahara. Meantime, Japan's inbound tourism is
now under pressure. We have learned cancelation of Chinese flight
bookings to Japan have accelerated, and airlines have begun reducing
their capacity. Analysts say a prolonged downturn could redirect Chinese
air traffic to alternative destinations places such as South Korea, Vietnam,

(01:29):
and Malaysia. A federal judge has dismissed charges against former
FBI Director James Komi and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
The judge found the prosecutor who brought these cases had
been illegally appointed. US District Judge Cameron McGowan. Curry said
the appointment of Lindsay Halligan as interim US Attorney for

(01:50):
the Eastern District of Virginia was unlawful, and she dismissed
the charges against Komi and James without prejudice, which means
prosecutors could potentially refiled these cases. Here is Bloomberg Politics
contributor Genie Shanzeno.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
I think it is a reflection of the fact that
this administration, the president in particular, they have prized bealty
to the president versus expertise. And of course what we
had here was the appointment of somebody to this office
in Lindsay Halligan, who didn't have the experience. A smart woman,

(02:26):
a woman very capable, but hadn't had this experience before
a grand jury, and the number of missteps that, by
all accounts occurred in that grand jury. I don't think
this is a surprise.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
That was Bloomberg Politics contributor Genie Shanzeno. Now lawyers for
Letitia James said they will continue to challenge any further
politically motivated charges through every lawful means available. A short
while ago, Russia launched a combined missile and drone attack
on Ukraine, concentrated heavily on the capital city of Kiev.

(02:58):
This came just hours after President Trump struck a positive
tone on the prospects for a ceasefire deal. Earlier today,
Ukraine and its European allies signaled that key sticking points
remain in peace talks broker by the US. Here is
Ukrainian President Voladimir Zelensky.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Of course, we all continue working with podcasts, especially in
the United States, and look for compromises that strengthen but
not weaken us.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
That was Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski. Now, Ukrainian and US
officials say They have worked over details of a piece blueprint,
narrowing it down to a list of nineteen proposals. Both
Washington and Kiev will continue discussions in the coming days.
The US is applying new pressure on the European Union
when it comes to trade. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik says

(03:49):
the EU will need to change its digital regulations to
reach a deal on lowering steel and aluminum tariffs.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
They would like to have steel and aluminum as part
part of this package, and we think it is very, very.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
Important that they understand our digital companies and they reconsider
their digital regulation.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Comer Secretary Howard Lutnik, speaking earlier on Bloomberg's surveillance, he
was in Brussels on his first visit there since the
US reached a trade framework deal with the EU back
in July. Investors are boosting bets on the FED cutting
interest rates next month. Here is FED Governor Chris Waller.

Speaker 5 (04:27):
The labor market is soft, it's continuing to weaken. Inflation
didn't turn out to be quite as bad as we
got when we got the CPI report when we look forward,
so in that sense, for me, I don't think inflation
is a big problem going forward, it's going to start
pulling back.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
That is FED Governor Chris Waller, speaking on Fox Business.
He also said the Fed could take a meeting by
meeting approach in January as more official economic day to
come in. Waller, incidentally is a candidate to become the
next chair of the Federal Reserve. We also heard today
from the head of the San Francisco Fed, Mary Daily.
She told the Wall Street Journal she supports lowering the

(05:04):
policy rate in December due to a sudden deterioration in
the job market. And that is news when you want
it with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm deug prisoner, and this
is Bloomberg
