Speaker 1 (00:00):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Doug Prisner. It is day two of the US government shutdown,
and we are told President Trump is now threatening to
slash thousands of federal jobs as the White House aims
to pressure Democrats to end the shutdown. Trump, we are
told to set to meet with OMB Director Russell Vote
to look at targeted cuts. We also heard today from
(00:21):
House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Now, when he sits down as the director of OMB,
he will obviously have a subjective determination on the priorities.
And what do you think he would do, because what
would any OMB director do under any president? They're going
to look to see for the administration's priorities first and
ensure that those are funded. And so those are some
(00:45):
very serious determinations that had to be made. We want
to protect hardworking federal workers, and these are people who
protect all the rest of us.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
By the way, that was House Speaker Mike Johnson. Now,
the Congressional Budget Office is estimating that about seven hundred
and fifty employees will be furloughed during the shutdown, at
a cost of four hundred million dollars a day in
lost compensation. Meantime, Today, House Majority Leader John Thune said
he is giving his Democratic colleagues another chance on Friday
(01:14):
to and the shutdown.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
This president, I realized that my Democrat colleagues are facing
pressure from members of their far left base, but they're
playing a losing game here. A robust majority of American
voters are against a government shutdown. Even some Democrat members
are raising concerns.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
That is House Majority Leader John Thune. We go to
the UK next. And a fatal attack on a synagogue
in Manchester where worshippers were gathered for Young Kapor. British
police killed a suspect after he drove a vehicle at
people outside the synagogue and then attack them with a
knife before being shot by officers. He's been identified as
(01:51):
Jihad al Shami, a British citizen of Syrian descent. Now
two people were killed and three others injured in this attack.
Here is our Minister Kere Starmer.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
While this is not a new hete, this is something
Jews have always lived with. We must be clear. It
is a hatred that is rising once again and Britain
must defeat it once again.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
That was UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Authorities in Britain
are treating the attack as a terrorist incident. Police have
arrested three people on suspicion of the commission Preparation and
Instigation of acts of terrorism. The Food and Drug Administration
has approved a new generic version of the abortion pilled
Mifa pristone. The drug will be made available by Evita Solutions.
(02:39):
This approval is part of an ongoing fight over access
to Mifa pristone. Opponents say the FDA expanded access in
ways that violate restrictions on abortions and in danger patients.
We move to Business News next. Open Ai has completed
a deal to help its employees sell shares in the
company at a five hundred billion dollar value. We are
(03:01):
told current and former open ai employees sold about six
point six billion dollars of stock to investors. Here is
Bloomberg's ed Ludlow.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
It's a secondary or an employee tender. In other words,
if you are a existing employee or even a former employee,
you can sell your shares in open Ai. The eligibility
requirements were that you held them or that you had
a vesting period of two years. But the reason I
say that's interesting is that this is a valuation dictated
(03:31):
by a third party group of investors buying those shares
from employees, so the company doesn't raise any new money,
but there has to be a valuation set because a
price has to be set.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
That is Bloomberg's ed Ludlow. Now the investors include Thrive Capital,
SoftBank Group, Dragonear Investment Group, as well as Abu Dhabi's
MGX and t row Price. Tesla reported record third quarter
vehicle deliveries. US consumers accelerated their purchases of evs before
the end of federal tax credits on September thirtieth. However,
(04:01):
Tesla shares were down today by five percent as the
market focused on challenges ahead. Here is Stephanie Valdez, Treaty,
Research and Development director for Cox Automotive Mobility.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
We knew Q three was going to be a record quarter,
right driven by policy. Right, everyone created a sense of urgency,
whether it was dealers, OEMs, and so consumers reacted. So
we're probably going to reach about four hundred and ten thousand,
probably ten percent market share in the US market, and
Tesla has definitely taken advantage of that, but once again
that was policy driven. Moving into Q four, we're going
(04:34):
to see a slowdown. However, I've already seen some of
the manufacturers are going to continue a seventy five hundred
dollars credit going into Q four on leasing.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
That is Stephanie Valdez Stread, Research and Development director for
Cox Automotive Mobility. In sports, the MLB Wildcard has wrapped
up and now the New York Yankees, the Chicago Cubs,
and the Detroit Tigers will advance to the Divisional Series.
That news when you want it with Bloomberg News. Now,
I'm Doug Prisner and this is Bloomberg
Speaker 3 (05:07):
