Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Doug Prisner. We begin in the Mideast, where Israel and
Hamas are set to begin mediated negotiations on Monday. Now.
These discussions will focus on the final arrangements regarding the
timing of hostage releases, as well as a list of
Palestinian prisoners to be freed. US Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff

(00:21):
and President Trump's son in law Jared Kushner are traveling
to Egypt to take part in these talks. Hamas says
that its delegation has arrived in Egypt for negotiations now.
President Trump has already laid out a twenty point plan
to end the war in Gaza, and he's also made
it clear that he's losing patience with both Hamas and Israel.
Here is Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sar, and I want.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
To thank President Donald Trump for all his efforts with
regard to this huge mission of bringing back our hostages
back home.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
That's Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sar speaking there. Separately over
the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Macna, who said his
country's military will redeploy within the territory. He also left
open the possibility of disarming Hamas by force. The Trump
administration has deployed one hundred federalized members of the California

(01:17):
National Guard to Oregon. This move came after a federal
court blocked President Trump from deploying the Oregon National Guard
to Portland. Now, California Governor knews him called the move
a breathtaking abuse of power, and he said that California
would sue. We also heard from the Governor of Oregon,
Tina Kotec.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
We are all concerned, but the role of governors are
what their role is in Commander's achieved for the National Guard.
But let's go to earlier last week, the President of
the United States spoke to hundreds of generals saying that
we need to be able to training our military in
the streets of American cities. We cannot normalize the approach
he is taking with the military in our own country.

(01:58):
As I warranted, it is on the aul. It is
on American local law enforcement has a duty and a
responsibility and the skills to manage their local situation.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Tana Cotech there, she is the governor of Oregon. It's
day five of the US government shutdown. Talks on reopening
have stalled. The House has canceled plans to reconvene this
week in order to allow the Senate to work on
a proposal to reopen the government. Now, Democrats are seeking
a reversal of cuts to medicare as well as restoration

(02:27):
of subsidies for Obamacare. Now, on the Republican side, the
demand is for a clean bill funding the government into November. Meantime,
the White House is threatening to fire thousands of federal
workers as a result of the shutdown. House Speaker Mike
Johnson told NBC's Meet the Press mass layoffs are regrettable.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
In a situation like this, where the Senate Democrats have
decided to turn the keys to the kingdom over to
the White House, they have to make tough decisions. Russ
Vote runs the Office of Management and Budget. He has
to now look at all of the federal government, recognizing
that the funding streams have been turned off, and determined
what are essential programs, policies in personnel. That's not a
job that he relishes, but he's been required to do

(03:09):
it by Chuck Schumer.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
House Speaker Mike Johnson. There well, the government shutdown did
not stop President Trump from saluting the US Navy today
as it celebrates its two hundred and fiftieth anniversary. Here
is President Trump at the US Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
We're spending over one trillion dollars. We've never had anything
like that before, one trillion dollars on our military. And
that includes, along with your Secretary of the Navy and
Pete hex Saith, we're going to be building lots of
ships and doing a lot of things that you haven't
seen happen for thirty five years.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
President Trump, speaking at the US Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia.
The US Supreme Court's new term begins this week, and
it could be the biggest test yet of President Trump's
bid to exert executive power. More from Bloomberg san Nathan Hager.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
Since President Trump turn to office, the High Court has
temporarily lifted about twenty rulings that have thwarted his agenda. Now,
the justices are set to consider the underlying legal questions
behind such issues as Global Tariff's efforts to control independent agencies,
including the Federal Reserve, and the President's bid to limit
birthright citizenship. Any Guard rails would fall to a court

(04:19):
that has expanded presidential power under Chief Justice John Roberts.
In Washington, I'm Nathan Hager, Bloomberg Radio.
