Speaker 1 (00:00):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Doug Krisner. A deal to end the war in Gaza
has been reached, President Trump said. In the first phase,
Israel will partially withdraw from Gaza and Hamas will release
the remaining hostages. Here is President Trump speaking earlier on
Fox News' Hannity.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
It's going to be a different world. I think, really
the Middle East came together. Amazingly. They came together. You know,
they have some countries with extraordinary wealth and just spending
a small portion of that wealth can do so much
for that area. So will will be involved in it.
But the big thing is hostages are going to be released.
(00:40):
It's probably our time, would be probably Monday.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
That is President Trump speaking earlier on Fox News's Hannity Now.
In a post on x Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Necniah,
who reacted to the deal. He called it a great
day for Israel and Netnia, who said he would convene
the government on third to approve this agreement. The US
government has been shut down for over a week and
(01:06):
lawmakers are not getting any closer to voting on a
budget bill. Republicans and Democrats still remain at odds over healthcare.
Here is House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
They picked a fight that has nothing to do with
stop gut funding. They're talking about the Obamacare subsidies, for example.
That's a December thirty one policy issue. We were always
going to negotiate that and debate it and deliberate over
it in October November. That always has been on the schedule,
and they know that. But they're trying to pretend that's
the issue of the day.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
It's a red herring. It's a distraction. They're not doing
their jobs and real Americans are getting hurt.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
That is House Speaker Mike Johnson, speaking earlier on Bloomberg's
balance of power. At the same time today, the IRS
said it will furlough just under half its staff and
the agency will pause most of its taxpayer services as
the government shutdown continues. This plan calls for about thirty
four thousand workers at the IRS to be furloughed. The
remainder of staff will work on preparing for next year's
(02:01):
filing season. In a letter, the IRS said furloughed workers
will be paid after the shutdown ends. Former FBI Director
James Comy was charged today with lying to lawmakers and
obstructing a congressional proceeding. His lawyer entered a plea of
not guilty. Colmy's defense believes the Department of Justice brought
(02:21):
these charges at the direction of President Trump, and Comy's
lawyers will ask for the case to be dismissed. Bloomberg's
Miles Miller covers national security.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
You have a US attorney who was appointed by the
President who resigns because he believes that there is no
case here. Then the President appoints a lawyer in his
office to take the position in Eastern District of Virginia,
which handles some of the biggest national security cases. She
signs the paperwork herself, and she's forced to bring in
(02:55):
US attorneys from North Carolina to prosecute this case because
the scouters in the Eastern just sup of Virginia say,
we don't want our name associated with.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
This Bloomberg's Miles Miller there now. Comey's trial is set
for January fifth, and it's expected to last for two
to three days. President Trump said today ILLINOI Governor JB.
Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson should be jailed now.
Trump's remarks came after the Texas National Guard arrived in
the Chicago area to counter what Trump deemed to be
(03:25):
violent protest against the US immigration crackdown. Meantime, Pritzker pushed
back on Trump's remarks.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Look, he's a coward. He says a lot of things
to the camera.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
He likes to pretend to be a tough guy.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
Come and get me, Come.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
And get me.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
That was Illinois Governor JB. Pritzker. Separately, a soccer match
between Argentina and Puerto Rico, which had been originally scheduled
for next week in Chicago, has reportedly been relocated to Florida.
The Associated Press reports the move was made because of
President Trump's deployment of the National Guard. We go to
France next to where outgoing Prime Minister Sebastian Lecornu is
(04:02):
expecting President Emmanuel mccran to be in a position to
name a new premier within the next forty eight hours now.
Lecornu formerly resigned as premier on Monday, although mccron asked
him to try to reach in accord with political groups
that could lead to a new cabinet. Here is Bloomberg's
Stephen Carroll he.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Has made it clear though, is that nobody's going to
be in this government should have presidential ambitions for the
twenty twenty seven presidential election. That looks like he's pointing
towards a sort of technocratic arrangement, but very much involving
the politicians who are in the National Assembly now, who
are on the political scene, to be able to put
that compromise together, because they have some pretty big issues
(04:43):
they have to decide, and the calendar on this budget
is already running very very tight.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
That is Bloomberg Stephen Carroll. We go to US interest
rate policy next. The minutes of the last FED meeting
show a willingness to lower interest rates further this year.
But there is more to the men here, is Bloomberg's
Michael McKee.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
Most participants emphasized upside risks to their outlook for inflation
in the discussion about the economy. Much of that discussion
revolving around inflation, with the Hawks noting progress towards the
fed's two percent target had stalled, which raised the risks
of inflation expectations rising.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
That is Bloomberg's Michael McKee. Back in September, FED officials
were expecting two additional quarter point rate cuts by the
end of the year. And that is news when you
want it, with Bloomberg News Now, I'm Doug Chrisner, and
this is Bloomberg
