Speaker 1 (00:00):
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now, I'm
Charlie Pellett. A federal judge has ruled that Alphabet's Google
does not have to sell its popular Chrome web browser.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It is surprising because Judge Matter was in favor of
divesting Chrome, which is the key asset here that everyone
is looking at, and in this case, I think the
ruling clearly states that they're not required to divest Chrome.
At the same time, there won't be any exclusive contracts,
so that means the Google Apple thing won't be at

(00:33):
least allowed anymore.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Bloomberg's man Deep Singh. The ruling came in the Justice
departments landmark antitrust case against the search engine. Treasury Secretary
Scott Besant is reportedly planning to start interviews on Friday
in search of a candidate to be the next chair
of the Federal Reserve. The Wall Street Journal says the
interview process will continue next week, adding that Besant will

(00:57):
be talking to candidates either in person or by video conference.
Robert Kaplan is vice chair at Goldman Sachs. He's a
former Dallas Fed chief, and he spoke to Bloomberg from
the sidelines of the Goldman Sachs Asia Leaders Conference.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Jaypal's term as chairman ends in May, and so it
makes sense that they should start the interview process. I
think the main thing for the leader, the next leader
of the FED has to be somebody who has strong
grounding and economics and can make independent judgments about the economy.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Robert Kaplan, former Dallas FED chief, speaking to Bloomberg following
the interviews, Bestent plans to recommend a finalist of candidates
to President Trump. FED Governor Lisa Cook's lawyer say President
Trump's move to Ouster is based on quote cut and
paced allegations relating to mortgage fraud. The House Oversight Committee

(01:52):
has released more than thirty three thousand pages of files
related to Jeffrey Epstein. CBS reports many of the documents
were already in the public domain. The release came as
lawmakers pressed the Trump administration to disclose more information on
the criminal probe into Epstein. Republican Congressman Thomas Massey of

(02:14):
Kentucky says tomorrow some of those victims will speak publicly.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
I haven't had time to look at all the documents
that have been released by the Oversight Committee, but I
think the scope of their investigation is such that the
things they requested aren't even going to include all the
things that we need, and the few documents that we
have been able to view are heavily redacted to the
degree that they wouldn't show us anything new.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Republican Congressman Thomas Massey of Kentucky. President Trump says his
administration will ask the US Supreme Court for an expedited
ruling to overturn a federal appeals court ruling that found
many of his tariffs are illegal.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
We are leading very substantially with AI. We're leading because
of tariffs. We're leading because of talent, and this is
where they'd like to be. But without the tariffs, we
wouldn't have a chance because we wouldn't be able to
protect those investments of the companies coming in. So if
you took away tariffs, we could end up being a
third world country.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Republican Senator Joni Earnst of Iowa says she will not
seek reelection, officially opening a key Senate battleground ahead of
twenty twenty six midterms. She made the announcement in a
video message.

Speaker 6 (03:30):
Having been raised in a family who has given me
so much love and support. Now as our family ages
and grows. It's my time for me to give back
to them. After a tremendous amount of prayer and reflection,
I will not be seeking reelection in twenty twenty six.
This was no easy decision. I love my state and country.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Apple's lead AI researcher for robotics has left the company
to join me a platform's competing effort, part of an
exodus of AI talent from the iPhone maker. Bloomberg's Mark
Grumman says there are a few reasons for these departures, including.

Speaker 7 (04:10):
Apple has been seriously contemplating moving away from in house
model technology for some of its products and using more
from companies like Google or Anthropic or open Ai, and
the LM researchers at Apple some of them think they're
seeing the writing on the wall and maybe it's time
to get out of there before Apple really reduces the
use of their technologies. Of course, internally, Apple has denied

(04:33):
the idea that they're going to move.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Away, Bloomberg's Mark Grumman. A jury in Los Angeles finds
rapper Cardi B not liable for assault, battery or emotional distress,
awarding zero damages to the security guard who filed a
civil lawsuit against the artists. Immani Ellis alleges that Carti
assaulted her at a Beverly Hills medical building in twenty eighteen.

(04:59):
Cardi always maintained her innocence and spoke to reporters outside
the courthouse this.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Time around, I'm gonna be nice. The next person to
try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me. I'm going
to counter soon and I'm gonna make you pay.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Cardi b speaking outside the courthouse. And that's news when
you want it. With Bloomberg News now, I'm Charlie Peltank.
