Speaker 1 (00:02):
News when you wanted with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm Doug Krisner.
World leaders have convened in New York City for the
UN General Assembly Today. President Trump addressed the body and
touted the accomplishments of his administration. He also assailed the
UN for offering nothing but empty words. Here's Trump.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
We have reasserted that America belongs to the American people,
and I encourage all countries to take their own stand
in defense of their citizens as well. You have to
do that because I see it. I'm not mentioning names.
I see it, and I can call every single one

(00:39):
of them. You're destroying your countries. They're being destroyed. It's
time to end the failed experiment of open borders. You
have to end it now. Let's see. I can tell
you I'm really good at this stuff. Your countries are
going to hell.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Later in the day, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zolenski,
and after the meeting, Trump took to truth Social and
said I thinks Ukraine can win all its territory back
from Russia, provided it has European support. Trump also said
he believed NATO nations should shoot down Russian aircraft that
violate their airspaces. Here is Latvia's president Edgar's Rin Kaevich

(01:16):
speaking to Bloomberg.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
President Trump and other leaders who have expressed their views
on this issue are right. If Russian aircraft keep flying,
keep violating out a space, NATO's airspace, then the only
way how to stop them is to show force.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
That is Latvia's president Edgar's are in Kaevich. They're speaking
to Bloomberg. In the Asia Pacific, super typhoon Ragasa is
expected to cause widespread damage. The storm right now is
lashing Hong Kong, where the local Weather Bureau issued its
highest storm warning overnight, known as signal number ten. This
indicates hurricane force wins. The alert is expected to remain

(01:58):
in place for some time. Here is Bloomberg zevon men
in Hong Kong.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
This typhoon is living up to its name right now,
because it was almost like a flip of the switch.
At around two am this morning. I woke up and
I think that's when the things started to get a
bit shaky, right, and buildings were certainly rattling, and we
saw trees being toppled. We're talking now about sustain with
a north of two hundred kilometers per hour at one point.

(02:23):
So certainly there is still a lot of concerns about
the damage that we could see coming out of this.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
That was bloomberggsyvon Men. Now the super typhoon has already
led to hundreds of flights being canceled, schools being closed,
and business activities suspended, not only in Hong Kong, but
Macau and across southern parts of China as well. We
go to the American economy next and FED Shair J.
Powell saying there are risk to both outlooks for the

(02:49):
labor market and inflation, and Powell reiterated his view that
FED policymakers likely will have a difficult road ahead as
they weigh further cuts to infrastrates. Powell speaking to the
Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce in Rhode Island.

Speaker 5 (03:04):
In the labor market, there has been a marked slowdown
in both the supply of and demand for workers, an
unusual and challenging development in this less dynamic and somewhat
softer labor market. The downside, risks to employment have risen.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Later during the Q and A, Powell said the FED
must remain attentive to the possibility that Trump's tariffs lead
to persistent inflationary effects.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
The pass through to consumers has been later and less
than we expected. How much of that will continue? I
don't know what. The responsible thing from our standpoint was
to watch and wait, because it's our job to make
sure we don't make a mistake on inflation.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
That was Fedschair J Powell there. He offered no hints,
by the way, on whether he might support a rate
cut at the fed's next meeting in October. We moved
to Earning's News next after the Micron Technology gave an
upbeat sales forecast for the current quarter. This is being
helped by demand for artificial intelligence equipment, particularly those high
bandwidth memory chips. Here is Bloomberg's Annabel Jewelers.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
Yeah, really big, clocused on the guidance, and that's what
investors we're really paying attention to. But essentially a fiscal
first quarter revenue tip to come in at twelve point
five billion dollars. That's well ahead of what Wall Street
had been expecting of eleven point nine billion dollars. And
also proper per share came in better than expected for
their guidance as well.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
That is Bloomberg's Anabel Jewelers shares and Micron were up
four tens to one percent at the end of late
New York trading. California Attorney General Rob Bonta is slamming
the Trump administration over its decision to put a one
hundred thousand dollars application fee on the H one B
visa program. Bonta said the move creates uncertainty and unpredictability

(04:42):
for businesses in his state, and Bonta is examining whether
the changes to the visa program violate the Federal Administrative
Procedure Act. It bars abrupt rule changes by the government
without a period of public notice. And that is news
when you want it with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm Doug Prisner,
and this is Bloomberg

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
