Speaker 1 (00:01):
News when you wanted with Bloomberg News. Now I'm Doug Prisoner.
The countdown is on for Congress to pass a spending
bill to avoid a government shutdown. Now, government funding is
set to expire at twelve oh one am Wednesday, unless
Congress passes a short term spending bill late Monday. After
meeting with President Trump at the White House, congressional leaders
left no closer to resolving demands from Democrats. They want

(00:25):
to extend healthcare subsidies and to reverse cuts to Medicaid
funding included in Trump's signature tax legislation passed earlier this year.
Here is House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffrey speaking to reporters
after that meeting.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
House Democrats are here. Senate Democrats are here. The Senate
is ready to act. House Republicans canceled votes. They're on
vacation right now, all across the country, and some are
spread out across the world. If House Republicans were serious,
they'd be here right now. And it was no explanation
in that meeting from the Speaker of the House of

(01:01):
Representatives as to how possibly votes could be canceled. And
at the same time, people are supposed to believe that
Republicans are serious about addressing the healthcare crisis that they've caused,
but simply want to kick the can down the road

(01:21):
and expect us to take a Hail Mary promise.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
That is House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries. Meantime, Vice President JD.
Van said he believes the US is headed toward a shutdown.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
So if they want to talk about how to fix
American health care policy, let's do it.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
The Speaker would love to do it, but cid a
majority of leader would love to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Let's work on it together, but let's do it in
the context of an open government that's providing essential services
to the American people. That's all that we're proposing to do,
and the fact that they refuse to do that shows
how unreasonable their position is. I think we're headed into
a shutdown because the Democrats won't do the right thing.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
I hope they changed their mind, but we're going to see.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Our Vice President JD. Van speaking there now. A shutdown
would delay the release of some key economic indicators, and
that would include the monthly employment reports scheduled for release
Friday morning, and at the same time, temporary furloughs would
hit hundreds of thousands of federal workers and other government
employees would be forced to work without pay to continue

(02:19):
essential services. Staying in Washington, President Trump and Israeli Prime
Minister net Niau who say they have agreed to a
twenty point plan designed to end the war in Gaza.
This plan stipulates the conflict would end immediately if accepted
by both Israel and Hamas, All hostages living and dead,
would be returned within seventy two hours in exchange for

(02:41):
Palestinian prisoners, and a panel of experts would be convened
to rebuild and energize Gaza. Here is President Trump.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
This afternoon, after extensive consultation with our friends and partners
throughout the region, I'm formally releasing our principles for peace,
which people have really liked. Must say, and these are
done not just routinely done. These are done with total
and total consideration and working with the nations that we're

(03:11):
talking about. All if these nations have made contributions to
those suggestions.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
President Trump went on to say that Hamas has to
accept the proposal. Here is net Nyahu speaking about the plan.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
If Hamas rejects your plan, mister President, or if they
supposedly accepted and then then basically do everything to counter it.
Then Israel will finish the job by itself.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin net Nyahu separately Prime Minister netnia
who called Cutter's Prime minister today to apologize for a
deadly missile strike it targeted Hamas leadership in Doha. Net
Nyahu also expressed deep regret for unintentionally killing a Katari
security guard and violating Katari's sovereignty, and Nekna who said

(04:02):
Israel will not conduct such an attack again in the future.
That's according to a statement from the US government. Natasha
Hall is non resident Senior Associate at the Center for
Strategic and International Studies.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Cutsout has been used for many, many years now as
a neutral place for mediation with the Iranians with MS
et cetera. And so I think that the fact that
you know, the Israelis hit in Doha actually killed a
Katuri as well in the process was really enraging the
for the Katis, and so this phone call had to

(04:37):
take place. One of those points in that twenty one
point plan is actually an agreement that Israel will not
strike clus Out ever again.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
That is Natasha Hall of csis speaking there. Boeing is
planning a new single aisle aircraft to succeed the seven
thirty seven Max. We are told this aircraft is in
early stage development. Entrepreneur when Charlie Javis was sentenced today
to seven years in prison for defrauding JP Morgan Chase.
Back in twenty twenty one, Jevis sold her fintech startup,

(05:09):
known as Frank to JP Morgan the price tag one
hundred and seventy five million dollars. Well, in March, Jevis
was convicted of lying and faking user data to mislead
the bank into believing her site had more than four
point two five million users when it actually had fewer
than three hundred thousand. So, in addition to prison time,

(05:30):
the judge today ordered Javis to forfeit twenty two point
four million dollars and she has to pay two hundred
eighty seven and a half million in restitution to JP
Morgan Chase. And that is news when you want it
with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm Doug Prisner, and this is

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
